What's great about it: Everything is good, especially the red color-scheme.I have had no trouble with the wireless set up or speed.
What's not so great: So far I have found nothing that I don't like.
"This is my first laptop and first time with Vista, but I am impressed with the ease of operation and the speed of the processor. This is an outstanding product and a great value. I would recommend this laptop to anyone."

What's great about it: Fast, attractive, functional
What's not so great: Speakers a little tinny
"Owned a few days and after putting it through it's paces, am very pleased! This machine is impressive. The speakers are tinny, but what can you expect from speakers this small. Were becoming friends already."

What's great about it: Fast, large hard drive, very nice video, good audio quality from built-in microphone
What's not so great: Front mounted speaker and mic jacks, no catch on lid, no Firewire, Camera color balance lacking
"I am very pleased with this laptop. The biggest nits to pick would be the lack of a Firewire port and no catch on the lid like my previous Gateway (I still use it, however, I can't bring myself to get rid of it so I have Linux running on that one). . I purchased this on sale and would consider it at regular price. The spacious hard drive is very quiet and the system is generally very responsive with everything I have thrown at it so far. . The display holds up well to most lighting conditions; only becoming hard to see in bright light or glare situations. Contrast seems quite high in most indoor settings. The black interior design helps, too, in my opinion. . WiFi works well with plenty of signal away from the access point. . I would prefer side mounted audio connectors, but my previous one also has front mounted audio. A big plus here are the top markings for the side ports and the touch audio controls behind the keyboard. the metal texture around the keyboard helps hide fingerprints. I wish they could have some something similar for the touch buttons behind the keyboard. . I like the physical Wireless switch on the left side toward the front in addition to the normal function WiFi key. . The metal textured touchpad takes a bit of getting used to. The touch area does not fill up the pad as much as earlier models and it would be nice to have a mark for the horizontal scrolling zone like the vertical scroll zone. I do appreciate the larger buttons. . The keyboard continues Gateway's tradition of premium feeling and performing keyboards, and I am glad to see that they kept all the keys in the same places. I was thrown for a moment seeing a Bluetooth function key on a computer that does not have Bluetooth capability. I think the top mounted speakers are less compromising than the front mounted speakers on my first Gateway. . I cannot get the color balance on the camera to provide a natural hue in some situations. The presets are nice but often don't make any difference. Similarly, the manual adjustment doesn't have much range, and cannot create a natural balance that the presets can't either. I like the hiding camera settings bar on the left side of the screen just above the middle as well as the System Tray location. . In comparing the speed with my Core 2 Quad desktop (2.66 GHz), not a lot is lacking! For example, starting the Firefox browser on the laptop only takes (maybe) a second longer. Office applications seemingly run as quickly as on the desktop and Vista's "eye candy" doesn't seem to take a big bite out of performance as I had half expected (yes, Aero Glass works fine on this laptop!). . Along the same line, the fan sometimes comes on at full blast and then within a second slows down to pretty much silent. This approximately one second blast of noise can be startling. I have pretty much gotten used to it and it doesn't hurt anything. . I feel I have a solid notebook computer that should last quite a while without feeling a need to replace for something faster."

SLICK FOR THE PRICE

What's great about it: 4GB RAM, Big HD, FAST and lightweight
What's not so great: Windows Vista
"I bought mine for $799 at best Buy and I am seriously considering an immediate purchase of another one for my wife. This thing is really fast, lightweight and friendly. The screen is super bright too. The 4GB of RAM makes you forget thet Windows Vista is a memory hog. The only issue I had was that the checks will no longer print from my Quicken 2008. Everything else works great."

What's great about it: Fast; easy set up; looks great
What's not so great: none come to mind
"I bought this Laptop because I am an Interior Design student, and on my desktop, AutoCAD would slow it down to the point where it would freeze up. This computer is superfast and I can multitask AutoCAD and many other programs all at the same time with no noticeable slow down. The "extra" software was minimal, and the antivirus 60 day trial set up in no time flat. The integrated wireless card had me online within minutes (just had to set it up with my wireless router info). I honestly cannot think of anything about this computer that I don't like."

Good for everything but games

What's great about it: Large hard drive, 4GB memory, 64-bit Vista
What's not so great: Intel video, DVD drive
"I got this laptop for my personal use for a variety of tasks. Everything from word processing, computer programming, travelling, and occassional game playing.
On the upside, this computer has a great deal of computing power, memory, and storage for the price.
The downsides are that (1) it has the Intel Video chipset in it, which means that a large portion of video games are unsupported and unplayable, (2) the cd/dvd drive would not read some of my older CD-R discs, (3) wireless sometimes has problems auto-connecting on bootup (but the problem is usually solved by simply turning the wireless off and then back on)
This machine also comes pre-loaded with Windows Vista 64-bit (which is necessary to access all 4 GB of memory) but it does have an option to downgrade to Vista 32-bit if you prefer (which will make about 1 GB of your memory unaccessable if you do so)."

What's great about it: good price lots of features
What's not so great: windows vista
"This lap top is a really good deal for the features and memory it has. Its very fast, light weight and looks expensive do to the red outside. The only thing I don’t like about it is windows vista it does not contain Microsoft word or power point which I need for school. However it appears that all new laptops come with windows vista now."

What's great about it: Not a lot junk programs, easy setup, lots of other things
What's not so great: Have to be forwarned about 64-bit Vista
"I bought this computer because I was without a computer thanks to my yucky Dell computer. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. The only drawback I had was I had to get a new antivirus because it runs 64-bit Vista and it wasn't compatible with what I had. But please, that is minor in the grand scheme of things. This computer is FAST! I have no problems with it whatsoever. I would definitely recommend buying this one and I would absolutely recommend buying it at Best Buy. The salespeople are awesome!!"

What's great about it: never had an issue
What's not so great: I don't like windows vista, but that doesn't have anything to do with the computer itself
"I am not a fan of Vista, but that is an easy fix. I use this computer for homework, the internet, Outlook and various other programs. I have never had an issue with it. I take it to class with me, to work, and with me when I go back home. Good buy for a college student."

What's great about it: User-friendly interface. Great mix of pre-loaded programs. Not too heavy, and comfortale to use.
What's not so great: Battery life could be a little longer
"Great product for the right price! I've used some terrible laptops for both personal and professional use, and this laptop is great for my personal needs. It's not too expensive, but you get the bells and whistles that any personal use laptop would need. I've had no problems so far except that I wish the battery life would last a little longer."

What's great about it: Fast, Clear, Light, Comfortable Keypad
"I have to say that the Gateway is a great computer! The widescreen is highly convenient as well as the ultrabright features. Some days you need a little more brightness and then there are days you can tone it down. Overall, this has been the most reliable computer yet."
