What's great about it: 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard drive, 4 USB ports What's not so great: Poor sound
"For about $650 this is a great deal. The 3 gigs of RAM are enough to handle Windows Vista with good speed. Pre-installed bloatware is at a minimum. Screen is clear and bright. I have been using this machine for 3 weeks now with no problems."

"Excellent laptop, for this sale price you can't go wrong. Dell puts out a good product and with all the extras, wireless internet is blazing fast, windows vista is now a breeze to work with, sharp 15.4 widescreen, great memory and the battery seems to last forever! The only problems are, the speakers are very weak, and the jacks for the headphones or RCA inputs are at the front, which can be annoying if connecting a external speaker system. But everything else about this laptop is awesome."

"I've had this computer for two weeks and it's been great. The 9-cell battery is perfect, allowing for hours of use. While it adds some additional bulk to the notebook, sticking out the back approximately 3/4 of an inch, below the lid hinge, it's still streamlined and unobtrusive. The wireless connection has been consistent and reliable, and the Wi-Fi catcher is strong enough to catch even weaker signals. The keyboard has a nice, smooth feel, and the touch pad is integrated into the casing and has both vertical and horizontal scrolling. Although the screen is not high definition, it's very good quality, clear and precise. Note regarding Best Buy's optimization - after optimization, the vertical and horizontal scroll was not working, nor was the Wi-Fi Catcher sliding switch (Dell Quickset). Reinstallation of the drivers for each solved the problem. The cons are all inconsequential. The graphics card is fine for standard usage, including light gaming. I believe the wireless card can be changed out and blue tooth added, both at reasonable prices. Overall, GREAT computer. Very happy with this purchase, especially at the original sale price of $699. The Commotion design on the cover adds visual interest without being overdone. The system is fast, very quiet, and has great flexibility with 4 USB ports, HDMI, etc. Final note - Best Buy and the Geek Squad have been great to work with and very customer service oriented."

What's great about it: Everything, except high end gaming What's not so great: Maybe the speakers could be a tad better
"This laptop does everything that I have asked of it with aplomb! But, the icing on the cake has to be the battery...It lasts and lasts. I can surf while listening to music or watch a DVD or stream video...even burning discs and I consistently clock over four and half hours and still have 12% to 15% juice left!!! While it is not a desktop replacement, it's not meant to be one, it can nearly keep up with my desktop. Heck, even my wife uses it! That makes it worth every penny to me!!!!!"

"I've had several work laptops. I had an old desktop for personal use. This is the first laptop I've ever purchased for personal use. I love it. I got this on sale about a week ago and feel I got a fabulous deal. There were several laptops on sale at about the same price range at the time but none really compared to this. It has everything I need and more. I am not computer savvy but this was so easy to set-up and use. The battery lasts a long time. I'm not a touchpad fan so got a wireless mouse and can't stop using my laptop. I would recommend this to anyone."

"Great laptop at a fantastic price. I compared the Best Buy price to the price on Dell's site and its $300 less - a steal. The 9 cell battery lasts a long time, I'm getting 6-8 hours on a full charge. No bluetooth, but the bluetooth card to install in the machine from Dell is only $20 ($26 after shipping). I ordered the BT card from Dell and will install that myself when it arrives. The wireless N card can also be ordered from Dell, and switched out. I like that wireless broadband cards are also available to be installed inside the machine leaving the expansion slot open. This is a great machine for business or pleasure. The 15.4" widescreen display looks great, and playing DVD's is easy with the included remote control. I like that the remote control slides into the PC card expansion slot for storage. I looked at several other machines before I bought this one, and it was such a great machine a the price I stopped looking, and bought immediately. If you buy this machine you will not regret it."

"On sale when I purchased (04/08), this is a lot for the money. I configured it on the dell website and the same specs were almost $1000!! For the average home user (running Itunes and using microsoft office,web surfing, watching DVDs---basically multi tasking with hi RAM programs), this set up is great. The speaker panel/soundcard is not top notch, but I plugged in some AltecLansing externals with a subwoofer and wow. Vista with SP1 has its quirks, as we know, but if you're comparing speed and functionality to what you used to have (which for me was a desktop running Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM on XP)----no comparison!! Toss in your own portable drive and you won't even miss having a 500GB hard drive, why pay for extra memory if you don't need it. The RAM on this makes the hard drive inconsequential unless you plan on storing 20 gazillion movies. I am very happy with my purchase, and trust me, I research things TO DEATH."

"This is our first laptop and weren't sure what to expect. We have been so happy with this laptop. It is compact, easy to use and came with a great package. I love the look of the outer side of the lid. The fan is quiet and it boots up very quickly. So far we love it!! We also couldn't believe the price was so cheap."

What's great about it: 9-Cell Li-ion battery provides outstanding battery life!!! What's not so great: Just wish it would have bluetooth then this laptop would be perfect.
"This laptop is fast, elegant, sexy, and has all the features you could possibly want in a laptop. It comes with a remote, earphones, back-up cd's that you just don't get with these laptops anymore. The screen is crystal clear, battery life is the best I have ever had by far! I can't even imagin getting a 6-cell batter ever again. A good assortment of Software pre-installed. Has S-Video and all ports you would want plus a HDMI port! I love this computer!!!"

"I got this laptop after owning the Dell Inspiron 1526 for about 2 weeks and getting sick of its loud fan and terrible battery life. When I took it into the store to exchange it I was looking at laptops and they told me they had some that came in that weren't displayed yet and he showed me the specs of this one and the price so I was anxious to see it. After he pulled it out of the box and showed me it I loved the look of the commotion pattern on the back of the screen and its slim profile. After looking at it a bit more I noticed it had a 9 cell battery for up to 6 hours of battery life on a charge! This is no understatement either as I get around 5 hours on a charge with average usage surfing the internet and doing homework as I bought the laptop for. It came pre-loaded with Windows Vista SP1 which is a great improvement over Windows Vista before service pack 1 was released. This thing boots fast and opens applications in a flash and the fan is almost silent. I recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a great laptop at an exceptional price while on sale currently."
