Excellent laptop in my opinion. It was a great price too $549.99 with 3gigs of memory :-) Fast and reliable, what else can you ask for? Only thing I did notice was that the keyboard felt a bit 'cheap'. I've used a lot of other laptops and alll those keyboards felt more solid when typing. But besides that small and insignificant detail the laptop is awsome!
What's great about it: Many, Many, Many
What's not so great: Only thing I could notice was that the keyboard felt a bit cheap.

MMK....so this is one of the best computers i have EVER had. ;) it has sooo much bang for the buck and im so happy that this is the price because with the kind of quality you get with this computer you would think it costs 1000$ when its really half that. vista is amazing and everything runs sooo smoothly.. i would recomend this to anybody in the world becasue it is that good..and for u gaming peeps out there this is a swell buy. it gives amazing framerate and all u need is a wireless mouse and ur ready to dominate..and for u office pros out there, this computer has everything u need.. all u have to do is buy microsoft office but this comp comes with cool features like microsoft movie maker and a high quality web-cam with awesome and fun effects for both voice and looks haha.. also the battery lasts very long for a lithium battery. i can play starcraft on this thing for 3 hours unplugged and i still have like 10 mins after that left. also the wireless is super easy to set up you barely do a thing and it connects with the touch of a button to anything.. the vista features are amazing and omg i love this computer..i could hardly set it down. i give this a 20/5 stars haha..but yea.. this flys through every program and mnultiple games and itunes open it doesn slow down.. sorry if im not making sense there is just so much to write about it hahahah.. oh and last but not least i thought the glossy screen would look bad but it was quite the upgrade from my maat black one..i actually like it was more.. so yea..thats it but there is so muhch more but my hand hurts so stop hesitatiing and go buy this wonderful computer before the price goes up or they run out.. =)

I already have a MacBook, and I was just looking for something with MS Works or Word and more space for all of my iTunes after my Toshiba laptop suffered from the white screen. I've had several laptops in the last 5 or so years, and this is by far the worst. The main draw for me it was that it had more space than other laptops around its price. The laptops I've had in the past were all a couple hundred dollars more, so I guess I should have expected less with this one. I can honestly say that I have never had a computer of any kind with worse speakers. If you're like me, and you like to watch TV shows or listen to music on your computer, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. The wireless card is also bad. From the first night I bought it, I had problems connecting to the Internet. (Suspiciously, all of the Internet in my house went out that night when I never had problems before.) Since then, the Internet has gone out on only my Gateway several times a day and takes at least a couple minutes to reconnect.. (As I write this review, it has not been working for about 15 minutes.) If you're not looking for a computer with good speakers or Internet, this Gateway might work for you. If those things do matter, I'd suggest Toshiba or Apple high above Gateway.
What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Speakers, Internet connection

Honestly, I am not one to buy a Gateway. Not that I have anything against the brand, but I am more of an Hp/Dell person. Anyway, I recently bought this laptop and am More than thrilled with the results. I love how it is small, yet has a big enough screen to view multiple things on. With 3 gb, I am able to endlessly multi-task without anything slowing me down. Love it!
What's great about it: Small, Fast, Great Quality, the list goes on...

Great for the price that u pay very portable basic laptop can do basically everything you need would not use it as a home computer by any means, for not as much memory and not as much processing power as i would like but I would say great for travel and on the go!
What's great about it: inespensive good laptop that canPrice, run the basics and decent graphics card and processor
What's not so great: not as much memory as other products, processor a little behind but second best

I needed a laptop for law school but my budget was low. I found the perfect laptop in my gateway. Great price and amazing quality. The screen is crystal clear. Memory is great. The only draw back that I have found is that the speakers are sub-par. They are at the top of the keyboard and directed straight up, not at the user. Other than that the Gateway is perfect for the student.
What's great about it: Great screen, speed, and memory
What's not so great: speakers

This is a good laptop to buy because it was cheap, and it has almost everything other laptops has. I reviewed other laptops and found that some of the $1000+ laptops have worse specs than this laptop. The price is very nice around 650 which included tax and shipping. The laptop looks great. It has blue leds that are nicely placed; unlike other laptops that just randomly place their LEDs. There are two things that I didn't find too great with this laptop: heat, and sound. The laptop blows out hot air after just 5 minutes of being turned on; I guess it was in heat... The other thing is the speakers. They're ok for internet videos and windows sounds, they are terrible for movies and musics. I would suggest getting external speakers or headphones. That's all there is to this laptop. One thing I would do is to condition the battery pack before normal operation to get the best performance of it.
What's great about it: speed, memory, price, look
What's not so great: heat, speakers

Bought this computer last week. It runs fast once connected. When going from sleep mode to homepage, it doesnt always connect the first time. Speakers arent great. There is a load clicking noise on mouse buttons when pressed that could wake a sleeping baby.
The functions of the computer are fine. Its a good deal if you don't have alot of bread to spend.
What's great about it: good computer for the price
What's not so great: runs hot... side exhaust could roast marshmellows.

I just bought this computer 2 days ago and exchanged it for an HP today. The performance of the computer was fine and the wireless worked great, but now for the negatives. First, this computer had about a 1 inch (but very thin) defect in the monitor. Just a manufacturing defect, which could have been corrected by an even exchange.
But the reasons we went with another computer was that this computer gets VERY hot, even after using it for about 30 minutes. It's definitely uncomfortable on the legs. The other main reason was the display, which was not very bright and crisp. It looked very dull, unless I really angled the monitor, then it looked better.
I have a 1.5 year old Toshiba, which I still use every day. The display of the Toshiba looked so much better than the Gateway. Also, the Toshiba doesn't get near as hot. I'm glad I went top-of-the-line with the Toshiba and got 2 GB RAM because it's still very competent today.
Finally, why does everyone complain so much about Vista? I've had no real problems, other than about 2 programs that weren't compatible. It took about 2 weeks to get used to, and as long as you have 2+ GB of RAM, performance is good. I've used it for 1.5 years.
What's great about it: Price, Memory
What's not so great: Heat, Display

First, the performance is very good especially for the price. Although many haters still despise Vista, it has come a long way with recent patches. Third party hardware driver availability has also improved greatly. I love the small form factor and the screen is bright and sharp. The battery life is adequate for most situations and can vary depending on screen brightness, load and accessories.
There are some minor negative points most notably the lack of driver and third party software media. The software media is loaded onto a 20 GB partition and you have to build your own recovery CD's (5 of them) should you need to rebuild your computer. It waists about 8% of your disk capacity. Additionally, there is quite a bit of trial software with short term access periods and gimmicks to try and sell you something you may not want. It is not as bad as some I’ve seen, but there is quite a bit of junk. Most of it can be uninstalled easily, but may be intimidating to the inexperienced user. I think Geek Squad will do this for you and "Optimize" your laptop for a fee.
Overall a great value and excellent performance for the price. I wish they would have limited the preinstalled trial software and provided recovery media.
What's great about it: 3GB Memory, HDMI, Wireless, TL-60 X2
What's not so great: 20GB partition waisted, No driver or application CD media, 32-bit OS, Preloaded Junk software, USB only on Sides

I just bought this the other day and i am really enjoying it. This computer is a great bargain with great specs at an affordable price, I have it dual booted with Vista and Ubuntu Hardy and all except for the wireless card (which i did get to work with a little help) everything works pretty much out of the box. I was a little worried about Vista but after turning off Aero the performance seems to be pretty good so well see. The one thing that i didnt like is that the speakers sound almost hollow like theres an echo or something, not really sure on that but everything else seems to be pretty good, I would recommend this if your looking for a good computer at a decent price.
What's great about it: Good Specs for the Price
What's not so great: No driver support for XP, the speakers kinda suck

I bought this laptop mostly for school and web development projects, but I thought it could handle a little gaming. The graphics card is very low quality, my 2 year old desktop's NVIDIA 6150 has better graphics capabilities. I like the keyboard, but the mouse is over sensitive.
Overall, this is a great purchase and I would recommend this product to anyone.
What's great about it: Glossy screen, sleek design, 3 GB RAM, dual core, webcam, touch volume control
What's not so great: Low-quality graphics card, horrible speakers, and vista (obviously)

I bought this laptop as a first for my recent high school grad. I was also responsible for getting it all set up and running. I had some major problems connecting to the internet through my cable modem directly or wirelessly at first. Spent about 4 hours going back and forth on the phone between Gateway and Cox. Each one kept on blaming each other for the problem. Finally I told the Gateway rep that I was done talking if he could'nt help me fix the problem I was going to return it. Ironicly he then somehow talked me through a bunch of steps that solved the problem. Still unsure what it was, as I'm no computer whiz. It has been connecting fine since, and I have had no problems for a about a week now.
What's great about it: A lot of computer in a small size, and price.
What's not so great: Some Gateway support reps who seem to not care, key pad keys seems very delicate.

The main reason I purchased this product was so that I can connect it to my high definition TV though an HDMI cable and watch movies or listen to music. However, I found that even though the picture output TV has no problem the sound from TV comes out intermittently. That means you miss some dialogues or words.
After exchanging emails with Gateway support for more than a week, when I called them, an analyst told me to recover the whole system again and try again. When it didn't work and I called again the next day, another analyst told me, without listening to my problem fully, that we cannot support it because your TV is a third party product. He was very rude and blunt when I tried to put my case to get the support.
Now I cannot return to Best Buy because 14 days have passed.
Basically what you get is what you pay....
What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: HDMI sound, Gateway support, Flimsy Casing

This little laptop from Gateway has lots of bang for your buck, HDMI, big hard drive, speedy AMD cpu and much more. Not to much on the cons side that hasn't been said already by the other reviewers. One can't go wrong with this one.
What's great about it: Lots of bells and whistles the higher price laptops comes with.

I really needed a nice lap top and seeing how i am a broke student it needed to be inexpensive. I got the t1628 for 600$ from best buy and love it. I read all the reviews prior to buying and expected poor speakers... However they are really really poor quality... like talking threw a tin can quality. I strongly reccomend getting the lap top optimized by geek squad. I ran it before optimization and had 60 proccesses running out the box!! optimization knocked it to low 30s and is lightning fast! I am very pleased with this purchase and dont believe that for the money I spent i could have done much better.

What's not so great: preloaded trials, and speakers...

I saw this laptop in the store and immediately loved it. This laptop looks sleek and is smaller, lighter weight but packs a lot into the little package. The screen resolution looks excellent. It came with 3 Gbs RAM and a 250 mg hard drive. This is a steal for the low price of this laptop. It comes with an individual Vista CD and not one of those disks where the OS is hidden somewhere in the recovery CD! I was also able to make a applications and driver restore CD thanks to the Gateway included recovery console.
Set up was easy and painless. I even had my files transferred off my other laptop completed in a very short time.
I would gladly recommend this laptop to others.
