I've had this laptop since May of 08. I was pretty much done with laptops because I've not had good luck with them. I got this laptop because the price was reasonable and it had specifications that would work for my school use. The only concerns about the laptop are a short battery life (about an hour), and sometimes it makes this random beep (which may be due to overheating, I don't know). Otherwise this laptop has been worth the money. It's fast for internet browsing and it plays videos/dvd's well. Like some others, the volume does not seem to be perfect. It is either too low for dvd's or way too loud for music. If you are looking for a basic laptop for internet use or for Microsoft Office, this is perfect. I've used it for both and it's still running smoothly.
What's great about it: The price was reasonable for the package
What's not so great: Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had this computer for almost a year, and everything is still in great condition, like it was when i got it. The sound is great, perfect for when other people are trying to watch tv while in the room, they keys are quiet when pushing, screen is clear.
I have nothing bad to say overall, But the battery life will last about 45 mins when not plugged in sometimes shorter.
Highly recommend this product to anyone

I bought this laptop about three months ago, and have not had any problems with it. It works well, has 3 usb ports, which is very nice, and a built-in webcam....very convenient. I have been using it about every day since I've had it and it works just as well as when I bought it.
What's great about it: affordable

Bought this for $499.99+tax etc about 6 months back
Faced the following problems:
1. Volume is very low (knew before buying)
2. Internet Explorer keeps hanging
3. Plugged in 4 different microphones. None worked.
4. S-Video port does not seem to work
5. Cannot recognize Optical Disk Drive sometimes
6. Shows me blue screen (Memory dump) every now and then
7. Hibernates and then internet connection is lost . Need to reboot everytime
8. Windows shuts down "unexpectedly" every time it hibernates

I bought my computer in the summer with George's stimulus check..=) and so far it has been great. I pretty much only use it for Internet and Itunes and sometimes to watch a movie. Great perfomance for the value. The graphics are nice, it's fast. The only thing that it's bad is the speakers...even if you raise the volume to 100% somethings you just can't listen and battery life is short..1 hour tops
What's great about it: Fast, nice graphics, do everything with it
What's not so great: speakers, battery life

Overall this is a great laptop, it runs smoothly for the better part of the time. I got it on sale for $500, so i may rate a little high, but it is still a great buy even at $650. Occasionally it has slow lapses that can be frustrating, but it runs well 99% of the time.
The graphics card is said to have up to 319 mb of memory, but ATI catalyst control center reads it as 800, but 319 is right i think.
I only use this computer for school to research, write essays, and listen to music, and for those things this laptop works perfect.

This is the worst laptop i have ever used. I got it for my 14th birthday and have had it for about 9 months. I am very unhappy with it! The screen randomly blanks out when im working on something. It takes almost 20 minutes for it JUST to start up. (to get to the desktop page). Any downloading takes a long time too. The USB port stopped working after only 2-3 months of use. Thank God it has 2 ports! The battery life is pathetic, Im lucky if I can get up to an hour and a half! The start menu is really confusing too. I am forced to live with this computer for another year. I hope it will last!
What's great about it: It has good quality and performance
What's not so great: Almost everything
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Everything takes time to get used to. I have had this laptop for a few days now and have gotten used to the features. With anything you need to get used to it before it should become unfavorable. I love my new laptop! The price was great. If you aren't paying attention to your battery life the screen does go black, but just plug it back in and you are good to go! I would recommend this to my friends. I went in to the local Best Buy store and they were very helpful in helping me pick out a computer for my needs. This laptop fits because I can be in the same room as my child and get all my work done. If you get this computer I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
What's great about it: The big monitor, the keypad that is built-in, and tons more!
What's not so great: Nothing I can think of!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great for the price. To benchmark it for some people, it runs World of Conflict on Medium Detail smoothly, it runs all office products with no delays, it ran all the Stronghold series games on max detail. Pretty powerful for a laptop in the price range. As with all laptops, they need to put more umph in the video card and work on better wi-fi strength. I know it says 319MB max on video card description but the ATI Catalyst control center says my memory is 831MB (128MB on board+shared). I'm not sure if the ATI software just isn't reading right or if that is what the video card is actually using. I've been using the laptop heavily for 6 months now- no problems.
What's great about it: Runs just about everything
What's not so great: As most computers, needs better wi-fi reception

overall this is a sound computer and investmen for the price, surprisingly vista runs great on it even though i had my doubts on the vista operating system but it surprised me especially how they were able to make sure everything worked seamlessly especially the wireless networking also the power management options are conveniantly located right on the desktop and when set for "high performance" this laptop can really work fast and seemlessly unfortunately the it does run a lil hot so i suggest getting some fan pad for it to help keep it cool otherwise a sound investment for the price
What's great about it: runs smooth, excellent wireless, good features and great DVD-RW drive
What's not so great: runs a little hot beyond that nothing

I have had this thing for over 6 months and the hole family uses it and likes it. I havent had a prob with it. I looked at the sonys and dells first but for the price and the extras that I got this toshiba insted. I have had a dell befor and it was....ok....not great. I think this is a beter over all computer for the price. And as far as internet goes it has a cool start up page! :)
What's great about it: Its easy to use. Its tough. Its pretty fast. It looks good. Good price. Good over all computer
What's not so great: I realy havent found one...YET

Overall this is probably the best computer I have used thus far in my life. It's a very smooth system, Vista works nicely with it. It has a VERY user friendly interface. However the start menu until you're used to it can be a little confusing. The keys on this particular laptop are very easy to use, I find them easier than other laptops. Installation for almost everything is fast and painless.(Unless you're downloading huge files all the time. For example a two gigabyte game, followed by a 600 megabyte program.) To conclude, I highly recommend this laptop for new laptop users(As this was my first!), people who want an easy to use interface and for Toshiba fans in general!
What's great about it: Vista, fast system, user friendly, easy to use, sleek design, not too big, not heavy
What's not so great: Certain security settings, occasionally Vista doesn't allow certain programs, a few XP programs don't work(OLD programs)
I would recommend this to a friend!

THINGS I DO LIKE: I really like the style and design. It isn't too heavy and it is durable. The screen is really nice and bright. The speakers aren't bad, but not perfect, but all laptops don't really have great sound. I like the touch pad better than the HP because there is a 'frame' around the pad whereas on the HP the pad is level with the computer. So when I want to scroll down, I just feel for the edge of the touch pad. The HP scroll down is framed, but when I used it I had to look down to scroll down. THINGS I DON'T LIKE: I bought this laptop last October and on day one the computer screen went black for no apparent reason. NO it has nothing to do with the settings! The screen randomly goes black and the only thing I can do is turn the computer off manually. It overheats sometimes too, I had to buy a fan that went under the computer to stop it from overheating so much. The wireless router always disconnects and I have full bars in the place I use it in. The battery power sucks, I am lucky if it last an hour and a half on powersaver. Itunes takes forever to burn a CD. On my desktop it took about 2-5min. On my laptop it takes about 16-20min. ( about 1min. for each song).I have to take my laptop in for the second time in 3 months because the screen keeps going blank. My suggestion is to get a laptop with a long battery power, and one that doesn't randomly turn off. If you do decide to get this computer, make sure you get the best possible price-look for weekend sales, and get the extended warranty!
What's great about it: good style, good sound, love touchpad
What's not so great: screen goes black, gets hot easily

I have in the past bought Sony laptops that cost twice the price of this Toshiba, but after researching the other laptops at higher prices I thought I would give this one a chance. I could not have been happier with the performance, style and ease of use. I saved at least $500.00 and find this to be everything my higher priced units offer.

This is my second Toshiba and I never had a problem with my older one it was just time to upgrade for me. I did max out the memory for an additional $75 through newegg and it was fast before with the 2G's it comes with. Now with 4G's this thing screams!!! The brightness of the screen and the speed of it overall is great. I can't say enough about this computer. If you're in the market for a laptop then Toshiba is the way to go. My wife bought a Sony the same day I bought this and she always has problems with her wireless turning off on her. Plus hers only came with 1 G of memory and costed more than mine. Now she wants to get rid of hers and get a Toshiba.......I don't blame her. 5 stars all the way.
What's great about it: Speed, Memory, Wireless, Looks, and so on
What's not so great: Nothing at all

When I got this computer I really liked it. As time went on things started to break. After only like 6 months my SD slot stopped working. I thought I could live with that but less than a month later every USB 2.0 slot stopped working all at the same time. I am planning on getting rid of this laptop and getting another of a diffrent brand.
What's great about it: Fast, speakers
What's not so great: USB 2.0 slots and SD slot stopped working

This is my 3rd laptop and i'm very pleased how it's working out. had it almost 3 months and is working like a champ. however i did upgrade after a month to 4gb and it's really responsive now. all in all a great buy. i paid $499 and i feel like it was a steal for what i got. thanks alot....
What's great about it: 2gb, 2mghz, good speakers
What's not so great: extra bunk software, vista, only 160gb harddrive
