"I recieved this from my mom in christmas of 2008, and I actually started jumping and all that kind of stuff you do when you're exited etc. anyways I love EVERY single thing of it exerp of course the battery life I just have it like 3 hours maybe and bam the battery is 20% well that's just a little detail

What's great about it: Sleek design and works great once it is dialed in to home network.
What's not so great: Battery life for video coud be better and battery is not user replaceable.

"My wife gave me this for Christmas. I've never been an apple guy. My first thought was that I'd rather have gotten an Archos player with a 250gb hard drive, but she didn't know. But after playing with it for a couple of weeks, I'm hooked on the itouch. The number of apps is incredible and increases every day. The sound is awesome. The sceen is great. Hooked up with the Orb Live app ($9.99), I can watch TV anywhere I can get a wifi connection coupled with my two pcs at home that have tv tuners. I can also access any folder on my pcs that I want to though this and other free apps. I'm so impressed that I may even go for the cheap Walmart i phone just to be able to connect over 3g. The only limit is storage for all my music. But who needs to carry everything they own around anyway. Battery life is limited for video. Net surfing with safari is also limited until there is a flash player app readily available to watch website videos. Joost has an incredible app (free) that allows watching hundreds of older shows. It is amazing to think that this little device is 5 times more powerful than a $2,000 pc of 12 years ago."

What's great about it: The many features
What's not so great: too wide for some to handle

"My brother got one of these last December as a christmas gift. For the price at the time, $400.00 it was a pretty expensive glorified mp3 player. It's size and shape make it somewhat odd to hold and almost makes you want to drop it. One of the few good things about it were the wi-fi capabilities and the ease of use browsing through your songs. These so called scratch resistant screens didn't last long either. If you're going to spend $300.00-$400.00 on an mp3 player why not put a little more into it and get the iphone which has just as much space for $100.00-$200.00 more and you get a phone to boot!
I would not recommend this product to anyone searching for a true mp3 player. I've had my 4th gen 30GB Ipod Video for three years now and I've never had any problems with it yet, and it really is no bigger than this. If I were to buy another Ipod I would definitely buy the Ipod classics not the nanos which my little sister has managed to go through 2 so far and now has the lesser 8GB version of this and has managed to get a massive crack right down the middle as well."

"Well I owned the product for almost a year. I got use out of it every once in a while. Until one day it stopped working. Sent it back to Apple and figured they would repair it and send it back. (after paying 30$ for shipping the product) It was still under factory warranty by the way. So Apple sent it back still broken. Said there was water damage. But How I have no idea. So after calling them on the phone, speaking with an incompitent supervisor, getting the run around and the guy was very rude. I finally gave up with the whole thing.

My conclusion I should have gotten a Microsoft Zune. Much more reliable and easier to use. So I learned my lesson 300$ later. Don't make the same mistake..."

"The I touch is INSANE! This is the first apple product i have owned and am blown away by the interface. The ingenuity of this product is amazing. WiFi is quick and precise, typing is a breeze (which i thought it wouldnt be), and the games use the power of this device to the fullest. App store, I tunes and You Tube are all a touch away. The screen is stunning, and even though the speaker is a little weak, it is fine for playing games or listening/watching in quite areas. The other day, I was going to be out all day with my two children, so i downloaded a couple of hours worth of cartoons on it and just handed it off to the kids. Worked like a charm! It is a little pricey, but if you have the $ and are on the fence - buy it!!"

"I went from my 30 gig video iPod to this. I would leave it locked in my car and connect it to my stereo when I had new music, but not enough to burn a whole new cd. It worked well for what it was, but I practically live on the internet, so an upgraded model like this was a great idea.

1. The iPod touch has wifi. Even though you cannot wirelessly sync the device to iTunes, you can browse the internet, IM people on various chat networks, access email, and waste time on youtube anywhere with a wireless network.

If you are sitting somewhere bored, you can get online and download applications from the app store to keep you entertained for a while, without the need to connect it to a computer. Wasting time playing with google earth is great example.

2. Flash memory is used in place of a hard drive. This means the device is much less fragile, and even faster than previous models. It also uses less energy so you get more out of a charge than previous models, even with wifi enabled.

3. The headphone jack is placed on the BOTTOM of the unit. Holding some of the old ipods felt awkward with the cable on the top, or in your way when watching videos. This just feels more natural in my hand.

4. It has a beautiful screen. Watch something on this and you will be very impressed! Even looking at photos on this is a treat. And when you turn it on its side, photos are automatically rotated too, so they fill more of the screen. If you want the controls to disappear, just tap the screen in the center. They disappear! The brightness can be set to automatically adjust to the room you are in too, so it wont hurt your eyes to read in a dark room.

5. Like any computer, an app will crash from time to time. However, this device handles crashes VERY well. No error messages, no "please reinstall program x" annoyances, no waiting for a reboot or having to reset the unit. When the touch has an application crash, it simply returns to the home screen. You can go back into your app and try again right away. There is no waiting, no "please submit data to apple," etc. When you sync the unit with the computer the next time, it offers to send the crash data to apple so they can look for a fix, like many computers do. I liked how it waited until you were likely not busy to click yes or no.

6. Browsing the web on this unit is very simple. If something is too small to read, double tap it and it will zoom to make it fit, be it a picture or text. Tipping the unit on its side will make the page display sideways, which makes many things easier to read.

7. It's compact. Like the nano, you can drop this in your pocket and it will fit in there comfortably.

8. Save paper, map your routes on this! You can see your route or a list of turns to take using the built in map application!

9. Using cover flow to browse your albums is a nice alternative to the old scroll methods. If you still like that method, hold the unit vertically and it will revert to that. You can even tap a letter on the right side of the screen to skip to that rather than scroll all that way down.

When held horizontally, cover flow shows up, letting you browse your library by the album cover. (In itunes, make sure you assign the album art if it doesn't automatically show up.) Tap the album you want to listen to and it will flip over, showing you a list of songs on the album. I didn't think I would like cover flow until I sat down and played with it.

10. Simple interface! Some applications, like the safari web browser, will use the horizontal keypad when you tip the unit on its side. This is SO much better than the vertical keypad.

The menus can be customized too. If you see something you won't ever use (like stocks), or if you have too much on the screen, then hold the app button until it wiggles, then drag it to the side of the screen. Now you have another page to work with. Sorting apps like this is a great idea, because there are tons of things you can install on this device.

The free AIM application on iTunes isn't that nice, as it forces you to use the vertical keyboard. It is VERY difficult to type like that. Try using one of the other IM apps offered in the app store.

But there is a nice spell check built into the touch, so if you do mess up (which is VERY easy to do) the spell check can fix it for you as you type. It automatically does this, but if you typed a word correctly that it doesn't recognize, tap your word and spell check will skip it.

To get the most out of this device, get a wireless router, ANY wireless router, for your home so that you can make use of the wireless features. The ipod touch is so much more fun with a network in range.

If you are getting yourself a dock, look at the iphone display in the store. Look at the dock they use in that display as that is the ipod touch dock. It is much less awkward than using the universal dock, however, either one will work on this device."

"I just got my itouch for christmas and its amazing!! i love it.for such a small item u can do soooo many things. the music quality is great i love the external speaker when ur with a group of friends or somethign just turn it on and listen together instead of sharing earphones or an annoying docking sstation. the video qaulity is great crystal clear .the screen is so big. the internet is really good. u can go on wbsites and the youtube is a great feature. the wi fi is nice . the calculator is real nice to if u turn it sideways it tujrns into a scientific claculkator. so yea its amzing the best ipod yet the only down fall of it is the back scratches easy but when i first got it i put one of the apple stickers on the back of it it makes it look cool and it prevents scartches from half of the back

so yea great ipod defintly a must buy!"

"The iPod Touch is more than a simple portable media player. Wiith WiFi, the Touch has more uses than I imagined. The App Store has an app for downloading the New York Times and Bloomberg. Weatherbug and streaming internet radio are also available and work well. I put the iPod on the nightstand and use Weatherbug to check the local weather before I get out of bed. I download the NYT, take it to work, and sync it with my Outlook calendar and contacts. I use it to download my personal E-mail, but I haven't been able to use it to retrieve corporate Email. I bought a cable and use the iPod to view purchased or rented movies on my TV, and play music through my stereo."
