Buyer Beware! This Laptop looks Great, has OK to decent specs and the price is right, but about 9 months of use and the modem has been giving me problems for the last 4 months. Just sent SONY an e-mail for support. Hopefully they will resolve this problem.
Very slow computer running Vista with 1 gig of RAM. I would even do so far that to say they should not probally sell these kind of laptops with these kind of specs. It just slow pulling pictures up for viewing. Running multiple windows (sometimes a little as 3) REALLY bogs down this computer.
This computer look GREAT, has some great feature and its a SONY... but come on Sony, you cando better than this.
What's great about it: Comfortable keyboard + Slick Design
What's not so great: Slow Processing, Faulty Modem + only 1 Gig of RAM

Bought laptop for my daughter before she left for college. She love her new laptop she told it was easy to use and she said it was much better the her HP laptop that I bought 2 year ago. To make along long story short it was a win, win for my daughter and I. She got a good laptop and I didn't pay an arm and a leg.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: choice of color

I totally recommend this laptop for anyone that is going to watch dvds on the go and browse the web as the internal wifi card on this works excellente. Not only I tried this at the access point at my own home, but I tried this at a friend's house and I went to a T-Mobile HotSpot and I had not had any connection problem. Connectivity was fast and stable. What I do the most online was watching videos which made very happy. Even though I am disappointed with the memory that it contains (not only it uses only 1gb, but it has 2 512mb chips for performance reasons) so upgrading the ram would cost more money and i didnt like that it can only go up to 2gb. However, I am not gonna worry about upgrading yet because my computer is still pretty fast. I don't do high tech gaming, even on my dual core 2 desktop computer (i mainly buy console games). All in all, its good for my main priorities of going online, getting organized (e.g. using Windows calendar), and for work related stuff like word processing.
What's great about it: Decent battery life, very cool on the bottom, awesome screen, sexy lookin
What's not so great: memory capacity

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago. It was the display model so they reduced it. When they were unlocking it and trying to find all the accesories to go with it, they could not find the battery. So I received an even bigger discount which I purchased it for only $400. Later when I came to pick it up, (they had to rebot it) the battery was with it. So, not only did I get it for a great price, I still received the battery and didn't have to purchase one.
The laptop is the best one I've had. The screen is bright, it's fast, and the sound is good. I download alot of music and it works perfect! I would recommend this laptop to everyone that wants perfection!
What's great about it: Fast and Nice Screen
What's not so great: None

The best laptop ever made, much better than my old Dell 1720 Inspiron. Great for gaming, especially when it holds 4 gigs of RAM. It's like a bigger version of a MacBook, but with Vista instead of Mac OSX.

I like everything about it and has style to it as well. the only thing it needs is two 1GB Modules and your good to go.
they only cost around $30-$40 and that is a smart buy. I got a good deal on mine $ 442.99. plus add memory
$36.00 still comes under $ 500.00. the laptop run great no overheating,no buzzing, the battery is great. sony has included a software to manage your battery. I get around 4 hours & 35 mins with it. so use this software. it is called sony smart battery monitor. I use it everywhere I go with my Sprint Broadband card. I am very happy with it.
There was a reviewer that stated the battery comes loose and falls out. that is not possible with this laptop because the battery slide into grooves and clicks in place. unless you battery clips are broken. mine was nice and tight fit.
Well worth the money. and I didn't want a web cam on the laptop because they drain the battery down about 30-45% when you use them or not.
What's great about it: EVERYTHING IS GREAT ABOUT IT !
What's not so great: Needs more RAM.

HONESTLY I'M A BIG SONY FAN.I TRUSTED IN SONY FOR YEARS AND GOD KNOWS HOWMANY SONY PRODUCT I HAVE?!BUT THIS TIME, I'M A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED.I BOUGHT THIS LAPTOP BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD DEAL AN IT WAS SONY, BUT I DON'T THINK THIS A RIGHT COMBINATION;WINDOWS VISTA,1GB RAM,DUAL CORE 1.73 Gh AND IT COMES WITH SOME SOFTWARES THAT I THINK THOSE ARE TOO MUCH FOR THIS GUY TO HANDEL AND IT PUTS TOO MUCH PRESURE ON MACHIN.
SO EITHER YOU NEED TO GO WITH XP,DELET SOME OF THE SOFTWARES AND ADD AT LEAST 1GB RAM FOR SURE.
What's great about it: IT'S SONY!!!
What's not so great: NOT THE SONY I KNEW!!!

I purchased this laptop a month ago for use of school and email. Got it at a amazeing price, 429 bucks! The looks are so cool and clean cut. Stunning EBRITE LCD screen makes it cool to watch movies again on your lap top. Only 1 GB, but it's still fast enough and does the job well, i can have 3 programs up with out haveing to worry about it slowing down. I suggest unistalling any unnecessary programs off, it will help improve your speed.
What's great about it: It's Sony Made, Stylish, EBRITE - ECO LCD.
What's not so great: none!

Works great after turning off all the stuff that this laptop doesn't have the power to run; and removing all of the trialware.
After figuring out work-arounds for some issues (documented at
admc.com/confluence/display/tech/OpenSUSE+11.0+on+the+Sony+VAIO+VGN-NR310E?forum=9
), it makes a great dual-boot machine running both WIndows Vista and openSUSE Linux.
What's great about it: inexpensive, all components Linux-compatible
What's not so great: can't expand to more than 2G RAM

the price is excellent, and it runs Vista perfectly well with 1Gb RAM, though i plan to upgrade to 2 Gb. the screen is bright, but low resolution (1280x800), so i get a lot less on screen than with my old Compaq. the wireless modem is strange. after the laptop has been asleep, it takes about 2 min. to reconnect to the internet. this is annoying. also, like another customer, i see that the signal strength is only 1 bar, even when i'm 10 ft. from the router. it's not a question of modem sensitivity - it sees many more networks than my old laptop used to. however, it shows 1 bar for all the networks. i think there's something wrong with the software.
What's great about it: price; bright screen
What's not so great: quirky wireless modem;low screen resolution

I bought this for about 450 then upgraded the memory very surprised for what I got out of a computer let alone a laptop! The only thing is battery life is not the greatest but has not caused me any issues yet.
What's great about it: quick, good looks, comparing it to others with same features the best so far
What's not so great: cannot upgrade beyond 2 gb of memory but seems to do the trick

I bought this laptop for my wife for our anniversary so that she could use iTunes again. Since she basically only surfs the web and syncs music, it was perfect. The price was only like $450 on sale. I really wasn't expecting much for the price, but am really impressed. Nice touch that it has a DVD burner. The design is also really nice... It looks much more expensive than it is, almost like a Mac.
I plan to upgrade the memory soon though to 2 Gigs. 1 Gig is probably fine for most, but memory is pretty cheap. Wish the system could hold more than 2 Gigs though, but for the price... Whatever.
What's great about it: Great price. Great looks. Nice features.
What's not so great: Limited memory.

I just bought this laptop 2 days ago and so far I love it. The moniter is crystal clear, it run cool and the fan makes almost no noise at all ( I really havn't heard one yet.), and it is built solid, sturdy and has a comfortable keyboard with firm, stable keys.It actually runs vista quite efficiently ( It doesn't bog it down to much like I've read in other reviews ) but I'm going to add an extra gig of ram anyway because I watch videos and work with pictures. I bought this machine for $449.99 so I figure after I buy (2) 1024 gig ram sticks (It comes with (2)512's and there is (2) slots) I'll have a great fast NEW quality laptop for about $510.00 before tax. Also, it has all the other little bells and whistles except a built in web cam. It won't be much of a gaming machine but that would be like buying a new car for $10,000.00 and complaining you can't run NASCAR with it. It's an absolute steal for the price and at $449.00 I feel its easily the best budget machine I found (I looked hard and that includes online) and I didn't have to wait for it to arrive and pay shipping since it was in stock.
What's great about it: Quiet fan, runs cool, great moniter, good speed, ect,ect....
What's not so great: To upgrade to 2 gigs of ram you have to scrap the existing ram since there are (2) slots and it comes with (2) 512's

I purchased this laptop a few days ago & I absolutely love it! After upgrading to 2G RAM & removing all the trial software included it runs perfectly & picks up WiFi almost any distance from the router in my office. I would, however recommed purchasing an internet security software program to install on the 1st boot. I purchased TrendMicro & it has been awesome so far! For the price, this laptop has definitely lived up to its Sony name!
