What's great about it: Screen quality, memory, harddrive space, wi-fi
What's not so great: Speakers, Vista
The speakers have no bass. They sound quite cheap despite the Altec Lansing label. Other than that, this is the most you can get for the price of 499 at this time. Comparable laptops are running for 600 or more, after rebate.

What's great about it: Price, 250 gig hard drive, 2 gig memery, WI Fi built in, lightweight, fast start-up, did I mention great Price!
What's not so great: No webcam, battery life average, and speakers aren't the best
I bought this computer on sale for $499.99. I can honestly say it is worth every pennie. This is my first laptop and I am not disappointed in the least. I seen all the good customer reviews from best buy web site and for the price I had to have it.
First lets start off with all the positives of this laptop. It has 250 Gigabyte hardrive which is great for a laptop. It also has 2 gigs of memery that can be upgraded to 3 gigs. The computer is very fast and the start up time is 30 seconds tops! I love it. Surfing the web is a peace of cake. The laptop is quick and very easy to use. This laptop aslo have a built in Wireless for the internet which is great and a memery card reader for all your pictures that you take from your camera and want to download to your laptop. Also you can burn Dvds & Cds and Dvd videos look great on this laptop. For the Price, this laptop more than meet my expectations, it surpassed them.
Now for the few negitives. You have no webcam on this laptop. But unless you use webcam for instant messages, you won't miss it at all. The battery life is about 3 hours and you might be able to squezze 4 hours but that is it for this laptop. There is a glare from the computer screen but half the time I don't notice it. Don't expect to play graphic heavy games on this laptop but you can play games such as Civilations 4 and Galactic Civilations II without a hitch. But you pretty much expect that for the price. Finally, the speakers are ok but not the best by any means.
Overall, this is a great buy, and if you are looking for a good quality laptop for a great price this is the one for you. If you are looking for a gaming laptop will have to look elsewhere. Also, most of the minor negitives can be corrected with upgrades such as buying a seperate webcam for the laptop for 20 to 30 bucks. This is a great laptop people. I had it for a month now and added a gig of memery to bring it up to 3 gigs of memory for about 60 bucks. You can not find a 3 gig, 250 gig hard drive laptop for under $600.00 anywhere! This is a great laptop for this price, I would recommend it to all my friends and family, you will not be disappointed.

What's great about it: Great value
What's not so great: A little plain looking,screen shows glare easy
Bought this for my wife and she loves it.Has alot of nice features and decent specs for the money.

What's great about it: excellent! great memory, great LCD screen, mouse pad, features!
What's not so great: nothing
this laptop is great! i got it about a month ago and i love it! I like the mouse pad; it is much easier than mouse tracks on other laptops. the LCD screen is amazing! you can enjoy watching movies and playing games. I really enjoy the features and the programing list. if u are interested in purchasing a laptop, you should definitely get this one! it is a great product for a great price!

What's not so great: Not in store...for immediate pick up

What's great about it: Fast, sleek design, nice keyboard, good screen size
What's not so great: I can't think of any
This is a great laptop. The screen size is very nice and allows you to watch movies with ease. The keyboard is full sized too, which is nice. The volume goes up pretty high, but sometimes I need speakers to get the full effect. Overall, this was a great purchase and I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a laptop on a budget.

What's great about it: Boots quickly, regular sized keyboard
What's not so great: Vista, only trial versions of software, pop-ups
I was leery of buying anything with Vista, but it seems to work ok. I really like the regular-sized keyboard, which allows you to type normally. The 15.4" screen is also very nice. The system is quick and does all I ask it to do. But I don't like the fact that the computer is set up with Google and a Google toolbar. Google as you should know invades your privacy by tracking and storing everything you do online forever. If you switch to a yahoo toolbar, windows stops working properly. It takes hours of research on the online help forum to find a solution, although many people have had the identical problem. You would think it would at least be in your computer's help section or even fixed already! Also I must say this computer is set up for people who know little or nothing about computers. That can be a hassle, especially getting rid of all the pop-up "help"windows and toolbars. They just get in the way of my surfing. I also don't like all the trial versions of software. They are really just a headache, since you must uninstall them before you can install anything else. Finally, the computer salesperson told me I had 30 days to return the item if Vista didn't work with my network at home. Bestbuy only gives you 14 days to return it after a 15% restocking fee. I felt this was a major oversight. Overall this is a great value.

What's great about it: Beautiful screen, Minimalistic design, inexpensive beginner notebook.
What's not so great: Lacking a bit in the hardware department.
This is an amazing entry level computer. It does everything you want it to and then some. Not to mention it's beautiful HD screen which I find quite enjoyable. The only complaint I had was the 1 gb of RAM but if I wanted more I should've bought more, so I can't blame the product. This is also good for very light gaming, maybe like some unreal or half life, nothing heavy. The keyboard on this model is very comfortable, and it the low price it makes the perfect gift for a loved one or a beginner notebook for yourself.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Light Weight, very nice looking, and big screen
What's not so great: The first one i have got the OS failed and the recovery disc also failed.
If you are having a problem with the laptop make sure that you make geeksquad check it out for you. Do not wait three weeks to reutrn the laptop. The laptop started to freezes right after it was out of the box.HP told me to restore the computer to factor setting. Now I am getting a bootmgr is missing which means that the OS is corrupted.

What's great about it: Very Fast. Easy to use. Attractive. Quality construction
What's not so great: gets fingerprints on outsides easily. Touch pad mouse can be hassel.
I bought this laptop because I had a compaq before and I loved it. I also really liked the price. I was initial drawn to this particular laptop because it has an AMD turion processor, which is very fast. Faster than a Pentium I would say. Altogether this is a great laptop. Vista is not bad, I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. I like it!!

What's great about it: all around solid performance and features
What's not so great: nothing to secure and lock monitor in the closed position. No integrated web cam
Fast startup and shut down. very affordable basic computer, nothing too fancy, no bells and whistles here, just a solid performer for virtually all tasks. HP customer service very good also

My daughter loves her computer. The picture is sharp and programs respond rather quickly. I would recommend this, esp at the price they offer.

What's great about it: Dual Core Speed, Lightweight, Widescreen, DVD Burner, Large 250gb Hard Drive
What's not so great: Sound could use some beefing up, Only holds 3GB memory, Side mount power adapter, No Webcam or Bluetooth
Great Laptop with all the features you need today and tomorrow. This one will last you for a long time to come... No need to update for years with the 64 bit technology already in it! Great Buy

What's great about it: Lightweight, thin, nice screen, extra memory slot
What's not so great: touch pad is not consistant
Thought that this was a good buy at 529 then it went down to 499 but 14 days was past so I didn't get the price guarantee. Did get enough RewardZone money to buy additional gig of memory. Laptop has been fine but I am having a hard time getting used to some of Vista's quirks. I don't think that you will find a better deal and Compaq/HP PCs have been very reliable.

What's great about it: Price, Price Price!

I'm certainly happy with the functions on this laptop for the price I paid. The slaesman tried to redirect me, saying that Windows vista uses so much memory space, that I'd need more. I've yet to run into a memory problem.
The biggest problem I have is the touchpad. While working along, the touchpad suddenly "jumps" my cursor to strange places. I've experienced a couple of times that an email intended for a few people went out to everyone in my address book, without my knowledge nor intent. You really have to keep your eye on the screen! Often, while using the touchpad, I move my cursor to the location I want but when I use the clicker, it moves the cursor somewhere else. When convenient, I prefer to use a mouse with this laptop.

I purchased this laptop for my father who has fallen ill and is uncomfortable sitting at a desk for any length of time. He can now comfortably cruise the internet and be entertained for hours utilizing this laptop. It is responsive, simple to use, lightweight, and has given him some great joy. Although inexpensive, this pc is a great product if you aren't a high-powered workhorse due to graphics or added programs...although it did perform quite well when tested for use of flash and videos on the internet.
I would recommend this to a friend!
