What's great about it: great quality pictures

"I have had this camera for a few weeks now. It takes wonderful pictures except in darker lit areas. You can always use flash in situations like this but i prefer not using flash. Using the higher ISO levels definately causes noise. Also in darker lit areas live view is very noisey. The pictures don't come out as they are seen on the live view screen though. I prefer using the OVF because it gives me a better idea of what i am going to get. I mostly use this camera outside which it is wonderful for. It can perfectly focus on close up images. It is also does not take very good action shots. I recommend this camera to people trying to take landscape photos and nature."

What's great about it: Fits my Minolta lens/flash, great pictures, swivel LCD
What's not so great: Flash adjustment buried in a menu, third party lenses not available

"This is a remarkably able camera for the price. It takes great pictures, though at ISO above 800, they do get noisier than the Nikon D90 (which, admittedly, costs twice as much). I am old Minolta user, and am upgrading from a Minolta 5D digital SLR. So, my lenses and flash work, which saved me a bundle. Unfortunately, it seems like third party lens-makers, such as Tamron, are ignoring Sony, so their newer digital zooms (like the 18-250 and 18-270 lenses) are not available to us.

I am not really a big fan of "live view" (shooting using the LCD screen in the back), but it is useful for self-portraits in mirrors and windows, and especially when you need to take a picture above a crowd or down low, due to the tilt and swivel design. Plus, the LCD does show you what the picture will look like at various settings. And the previews are just gorgeous.

Overall, this is an easy camera to learn and use, especially since (for me) it is so similar to my Minolta. However, flash compensation (which is important in close-up shots of light-colored subjects) is buried in a menu, rather than being easily available as on my Minolta. That is something of a pain. But the pro-level accessories (such as the hand-grip) make it all worthwhile, as does the long battery life, fast focus, and very versatile flash.

Stabilization works well, enabling me to get good shots in low light. I did read the review that said that all action shots were a blur. I have not found that to be the case, my action shots work well as long as I don't fire the flash -- which wouldn't reach the subject but which tricks the camera into using a longer shutter speed because the action is actually frozen by the flash.

And by the way, if you need to save a little money, the alpha 300 is the identical camera with a lower resolution, which, by the way, leads to a faster burst speed as it doesn't have to move so much data. Make sure you get a fast CF card (133x or better) for burst work."

What's great about it: The Pictures Look GREAT... and, It does things my old cameras can't.
What's not so great: I had to "read" it's book twice...And Then, it did what I needed it to do.

"Pictures Look GREAT! However; A CAUTION: The a350 does not improve the looks of ugly people. Now, you really get to see them in "real-life" detail. eecks!
The a350 works well with all my Minolta Maxxum 7xi lenses, external strobe-lights and has a port where I plug-in my old Minolta remote shutter release...so I don't have to touch the camera to take pictures.
After using the a350, then going back to my other Great digital & film cameras, I found the workability & "picture quality" of this camera has soiled me, especially when I use it with my old Minolta, Tokina & Tamron autofocus lenses.
NOTE: The zoom lens that came with my Sony 350 is OK, -HOWEVER; mine rattles a bit: but, works. I DO WANT TO ASK SONY "IF" IT'S NORMAL?
For "my" creature comfort: I'd like it to have a bigger "hand-grip"; because, I've got BIG hands.

I've seen many changes in photography as I was born into the Photo Business, my parents owned a photo studio, darkroom & camera shop.
I've been around cameras since before dry-film or electric flashbulbs. Now, here I am again; dry-film, wet chemicals, flash-powder is no longer needed,

"With all the choices out there I picked the Sony because I was told by several retailers that my old Minolta lenses would fit. They did not.....The camera is still very nice and I am more than satisfied with the quality. Night time football pictures have still been a problem. The stabilization feature is very nice."

"My husband and I were on a mission for a user friendly higher end digital camera. The salesman at Bestbuy was a camera genious and instead of us spending a fortune for something we didn't need he showed us this Sony model SLR A350. We were able to easily use it right away.The day after we bought it we went to an airshow in Oshkosh Wisconsin. The shutter speed was so fast that were able to photograph awesome shots of the planes in motion, also because this camera has the built in "steady shot" feature it allowed us to purchase a Sony zoom lense without spending too much extra money. This is an easy to use SLR that also features a "live view" screen which flips down so you can hold the camera up over something you normally would not be able to see, flip down the live view screen, look and shoot. Its another great feature. We showed the pictures we took to friends who thought they were so good they that they asked us to take the pictures of their wedding. Need I say more!"

What's great about it: The camera is light weight and I love the larger LCD view window
What's not so great: The LCD doesn't have a cover to prevent scratching and almost all my action shots are blurry especially at night.

"I love it for daytine shots. It is my 1st experience with a SLR and I was so excited about finally making the purchase,but have been terribly disappointed in action shots, at night specifically high school football games.
Other people are there with what I feel is comparable other brands and their shots are great while mine are one big blur. I have adjusted the aperture, shutter speed and ISO nothing helps My Olympus point & shoot made better action shots than I am getting with this camera. My portraits, my macro shots of flowers, my landscape shots are all pretty good. I have tried setting my aperture and shutter speed as taught in photography class and am still not getting any good shots. I like the overall feel of the camera
I especially like the built in stabilization rather than it being in the lens.
I am wondering if I got a lemon especially after reading other reviews."

"I just got this camera a week ago and love it! I have been waiting for what seems forever to get it. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't come with the CF adapter for MS Pro Duo...since the main source of memory media I have is MS. "I've had this camera for about 4 months now. I absolutely love it. The picture quality is tremendous. The built in flash is impressive. I take a lot of portrait shots and also enjoy birding. I love that my Minolta lenses are interchangeable. Switching from Auto shot to Manual is easy to fine tune your pics. I absolutely recommend this camera if you prefer high quality photos."

"WOW! I don't know where to start. I have a canon rebel that I just retired to buy the Sony a350. I am so glad I did. this camera feels good in your hands. It also takes very good pictures. I was able to take a picture of a fly. WOW! I also took others that were out of this world. pretty fast,crisp,good colors the live view is nice but is something I won't use much just tested it to make sure everything worked when I got it. also the steady shot is alsome. Very easy to use camera and make adjustments when shooting pictures. Take a Compaact Flash card with you to camera store/Best Buy store it will sell its self. Enjoy your new Sony a350...
When you add the Pic's you have to down size them to post them!"

The view screen has great color, the pictures come out clear with great detail whether its in jpeg format or RAW. Even shoots in ADOBE, black and white, I could go on and on. Awesome value!!!"

"I just bought this camera and haven't had a whole lot of time to use it or read up on it, but the pictures I have taken outside are unbelievable. I've been taking pictures at a football game and they come out crystal clear. I need to read up on all of the different settings, but once I do, I'm sure this is going to be the perfect camera for me. I am on my 6 digital camera and finally found the one that suits me."

What's great about it: Live View, 14.2 Mega Pixel, Stabilization built in Camera
What's not so great: Above 800 ISO there is some noise

"This camera is great, I spent a few month looking for that RIGHT camera. I found it in the Alpha A350.
I like the live view feature because the 2.7 inch screen is movable. This way you can view what you want to shoot before you take that important picture.
The fact that the stability ready feature is built into the camera, not the lens like Nikon and Canon. Lenses with VR built into the lens are usually much more expensive.
Since Sony bought Minolta, you can purchase minolta lenses which in some cases are less expensive than the Sony lenses.
I think the white balance is excellant and I think better than Nikon.
The battery life is above average. I took nearly 300 + pictures in a weeks period, used a little over half of the battery.
Overall, the picture quality is excellant. Very easy to use and a fun camera. I would recommend purchasing filters for your lenses, to protect your investment. I give this camer a A++"

Best value at Best Buy 07/20/2008

"A well made DSLR packed with features and the tiltable live-view screen not found in other camera of similar category. This camera will make other tourist/passer-by/fellow-photographers green with envy.
Had some minor issues with older manual-focus lens on t-mount but no big deal. I wish Sony would unbundle the 18-70mm lens so that customers can choose the lens they really wanted.
When attempting to shoot continuously, I noticed that it is slower than expected, but then realized that the CF memory card needs to be high speed (133x not 80x)
Call me stingy, but I bought it at a discount by using the 10% off store coupon plus my Bestbuy points, plus unused balance from a gift card, and did it while earning double Bestbuy points.
I'm waiting for the Camera Armor to produce a cover for this A350 model (they do make one for A100 but haven't see one for A350)"
