Nice features for the money

What's great about it: Excellent Photo quality, awesome Live View feature replaces the need for the viewfinder, nice lens out of the box
What's not so great: pricey, slight learning curve for newbies
"I bought this camera this week. I have been tracking the prices on it for several months and it finally fell in the price range that I felt comfortable with. I am new to the field of photography. I have had digital cameras in the past but never a real camera like this one. one of the main reasons I chose a DSLR was so I would not lose my shots any more waiting 2-3 seconds for the digital sensor to capture a photo every time. None of that with this camera. I purchased a high speed sd card with this and it takes awesome pictures on the fly with very little setup time required. Even though I am still learning about all the features on this camera...I'm loving it!"

What's great about it: Amazing Quality with a lots of features.
What's not so great: So many features requires some learning and effort on the part of user.
"Pros: 12.2 mp Image Stabilization (18-55mm lens comes standard) SD Memory slot - (most computers have a built in SD slot) 3" screen A setting for every picture/shot desired
Cons: You can't hand it to just anybody and say "would you take our picture please?" (it is a little complex) The live view is not what you would expect (but better than not having it at all). - I still you use the eye-viewfinder almost exclusively.
Conclusion - I upgraded from the Canon XTi (which I loved) and could notice a couple of differences which were great and no differences that were for the worse. I can notice (some can't) the increased resolution. The bigger screen is nice. The switch from compactflash to SD memory is one of the best changes. I don't know if I will use the live view on the screen much, but it is a positive option. The Canon digital SLR is just a good brand that you really can't go wrong with and worth the extra money."

Should have bought it first before the Nikon D60

What's great about it: picture quality nice pakage price
What's not so great: no live view in auto funtion
"I first bought a Nikon D60 and was very dissapointed with it. The XSi feels much better and higher quality materials. I don't use live view for all shots but it is very nice to have when the situation is right. without reading the user guide I felt that I knew the camera good after a few hours of playing around with it. There are many funtions that I will not use but after a class I can grow into it. I am satitsfied and do not regret buying the Canon after retuning the Nikon D60."

What's great about it: Good price, easy setup, great pictures, Loads of tips and tricks, just do a google search and start reading
What's not so great: Bit of a learning curve, probably because I'm a complete novice but pretty technically proficent
"I've now had this camera for about a week and have since purchased a bag, 3 different filters (diffusor, Ultraviolet and a polarizer), the 580 flash and have the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens on order.
I bought this to shoot photos of large scale remote control airplanes in flight and so far it hasn't disappointed me though the kit lens is certainly not for what I really want to do. Using the kit lens I have taken great closeups of my kitten, both of my cockatoos, grandson and others and using the diffusor, I can get the background pleasingly out of focus while maintaing a very sharp focus on the subject. This can certainly be done with the kit lens but the diffusor gives a better result just see my pics on page 31 of the customers pictures. In those pics I have also done excellent night shots of a local highway using manual mode and long exposure times with the ISO at 400 and the kit lens.
Would I recommend this camera, you bet...."

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: A lot of different settings
"I am so excited that I invested in a Canon Rebel. I use it to snap pictures of my family. The quality is great and the ease of the camera is nice. There are a lot of different settings and I haven't figured them all out yet however, just using automatic takes great photos."

Great Camera Live View NOT AVAILABLE in Basic Mode

What's great about it: Great Photo's , Easy to use, Well built
What's not so great: Live View NOT AVAILABLE in Basic Modes.
"This is a great camera and took great shot's. I bought it because of the new "Live View" feature as I do a lot of shooting in Macro. When I got it I found out it did NOT have Live View in basic modes which include Auto and Macro, etc.. By the time you open the manual and find this out you'll possibly be charged a 15 % restocking fee. I would recommend this Camera to someone if they do not want Live View in Basic modes. I hope this helps someone who's looking for new Live Viewfeatures. The only camera that I think has live view in all modes in the Nikon D90 which is quite pricey."

What's great about it: User friendly for an amateur.
What's not so great: It's all GOOD!
"My first DSLR. I researched it for weeks, then bought it at a really good price. I once owned a film version Canon EF and knew Canon was the brand for me.The XSi is easy to use, forgiving of mistakes,a great camera to grow with.It may be the only DSLR I'll ever need to buy, with so many features and great Canon EF lenses to play with.Fun is the operative word here,I shoot hundred of pictures every week and can't wait to go out every weekend to learn more. Pardon my gushing, but I couldn't ask for more from a camera!"

What's great about it: Color Processor Chip
What's not so great: Expensive in comparison to other brands
"A wonderful camera which takes 3.5 pictures per second in burst mode and even cooler is it's ability to take up to 53 pictures in a row. The pictures come out stunningly crisp and look great, especially if you take them in natural light. A very good and advanced Color Processor chip. WOnderful camera at high price."

What's great about it: High picture resolution. Quick at taking picutures.
What's not so great: Doesn't come with the high zoom lens
"I bought this camera right after it came out and I have to say that it is an amazing camera.
So far this is the best I have owned. I really like that it takes 3.5 pictures per second in burst mode. Even cooler is it's ability to take up to 53 pictures in a row.
The pictures come out stunningly crisp and look great, especially if you take them in natural light.
Buy a big card for this camera and you're ready to go!"

Great Camera

What's great about it: Amazing pictures, features
What's not so great: Price, viewfinder contrast
"I've had this camera a little over a month now and am absolutely loving it. I have had a few digital cameras and decided it was time to move up to a SLR. I had become frustrated at how any movement in low-light shots on my point and shoot came out blurry and grainy. This camera has fixed that problem and does an amazing job with action shots. I bought the package with the 18-55 and 75-300 lenses. I have taken some amazing pictures at motorcycle races that would make you think the bike was standing still. My only gripe would be the lcd contrast. While taking the pictures outdoors in full sun the pictures looked a lot darker than they were so I adjusted the exposure and most of my pictures were washed out. Other than that it's a great camera and pretty easy to use for a first-time DLSR user."

What's great about it: It's an SLR, and its a great product.
What's not so great: Nothing?
"It's a canon, it's a SLR, what more do you need to know. The only downfall which i'm not even sure if it's me or the camera is that when you use the live view function you have to manually focus even while in auto-focus. When you use the view finder you can press the shutter half way down and it will focus."

What's great about it: Great price, lots of features
"This camera is great for those who are new to the DSLR market. It has all of the most important settings quickly accessible on the main buttons/dials so that the user doesn't have to dig through menus to get to the critical adjustments. The focal points are quickly changeable with the dial next to the shutter button which makes adjusting the focus on the fly super fast. The only thing that takes some getting used to is that the LCD displays the pictures slightly darker than the actual exposures."
