"Good system for the money. Sounds good when its finally set up. Set up instructions are a bit "lacking" and what you go get is really confusing. The optical input is never even mentioned in set-up, and when used (with my HD television) it comes across on the CD setting -- I find that a bit confusing. No being able to adjust bass and treble for the varios speakers is a bit of a disadvantage. Overall, however, I am generally happy and would recommend based on price and overall quality."

"I had this System setup and after hours of trial and error, came to the conclusion that it had come with a faulty Optical Input. When plugged into the Aux (Red and White) the sound was still great, but I never got to experience the true digital sound capability of the system.

This rating is not so much as quality of sound as it is for quality of product."

What's great about it: Has 3 digital inputs and dynamic leveling
What's not so great: Subwoofer speaker is small

"I have had this system for almost 3 weeks and haven't had any problems with it.

Good things:
1) Has a digital input so I can use my DVD player and wait to upgrade to BlueRay later. Also it has two other digital inputs.
2) Has a dynamic leveling feature that automatically adjusts the sound level to keep the volume the same. This feature works great for watching action movies where the sound level changes very suddenly and you don’t want to wake sleeping children.
3) The cost for all the features can’t be beat. I looked at several different systems before making this choice.
4) Setup was very easy since wires are color coded
Not so good things:
1) Subwoofer is very small (I knew this before buying). However, overall the system has exceeded my expectations in terms of sound quality (I admit I am not an audiophile and my only comparison is a 200W stereo that I previous used to listen to music). And I can always buy another powered subwoofer later.
2) Manual is very cheap and not very detailed (but I can accept that since printing a bigger more detailed version would only add to the cost)
3) Speaker wire is very cheap"

"I was looking for an inexpensive home theater system for a small room (12' x 14'). I was initially looking at the home theaters that include a DVD player. All of them had a long list of limitations and features I wanted that weren't available. They also received poor reviews everywhere I looked. This system has been absolutely perfect so far. First off, you don't get the cheap, tiny dvd-receiver hybrid that's found in most of these sets. You get a full size, fairly capable Pioneer receiver. A lot of the inexpensive DVD home theater systems I was looking into lack the ability to convert your standard TV channels into 5.1 surround, which renders the thing completely useless to me.

I don't have too many components to hook up to it, but with an optical input, 2 analog inputs and 2 digital coax inputs, it will suffice just fine.

As for the unit itself, the sound is fantastic and it has a list of features that runs circles around everything else available in this price range (this isn't a $4000 set, after all.) If you absolutely need a DVD player/upscaler included, feel free to scour the internet looking for a DVD home theater system that sounds great and actually has the features you want at this price. I couldn't find one.

One note, I have only tested this unit in a 12' x 14' room on moderate volumes. While it sounds excellent in this room, I do not know how it sounds in a larger room. I would check your local Best Buy display units and make your own judgment on that. Also, the wire it comes with is of a fairly small gauge. I may replace the wire with something a bit larger in the future, but it sounds great as it is.

This brings up one last problem with comparable systems. A lot of them are using custom plugs for the speaker wires, which means you'll have to splice wires if you ever need to replace them. Not a huge pain, but it's an added, unnecessary step.

All in all, I couldn't be happier with how well this system is working out, and it costs less than I paid for my subwoofer in my other home theater."

What's great about it: Sound is rich for small to mid-areas, it looks nice, lots of features and the price is great
What's not so great: For this price, non I can find.

"If you are on a budget and looking to get that theater quality sound in a small to mid-sized room, then you want to get this system. I have this hooked up to my LG 47" 1080p TV and Blue-ray player, and cable box and it all sounds so good.

For the price, you can't go wrong. There are lots of little hidden features to fine-tune your sound, like adjust each speaker distance and power outage, etc. It also comes with many pre-set sound options if you are not into fine-tuning.

Getting a receiver instead of the more popular DVD surround combos made more sense to me. Turning this off and going back to my TV's standard built in sound is like night and day.

Don't hesitate, buy it!"

"For $220 bucks, this thing is well worth the money. First-time buyers, fear not!

I was looking for a system with RCA inputs for a record player that I'm investing in to play my vinyls. I decided to just go with a full surround system -- one of my friends did the same and is quite satisfied. Now I can both play vinyls AND get that illustrious 5.1 Dolby surround sound. I tried it with the new "Indiana Jones" movie and I was not unhappy with the results. It also comes with a male-male 1/8" (minijack) plug that you can hook into your iPod (I'm playing Susan Tedeschi's new album from my iPod as I type!).

The only thing it lacks is a custom equalizer, but it has plenty of options as it is. If you're going to spend the money for an external equalizer, you might as well just get a whole new system.

Let me say again, this thing is WELL WORTH IT!"

"20yr old, first timer, been wantin a sound system for long time! i set up alone, so i spent 3hrs to set up carefully but is good when u alone hav nothin else to do! although it would b nicer if theres a ipod dock instead of the front audio and also if the surround sounds speakers were to b a lil louder for the effect and higher watts would be great !"

"I did a lot of home work on this surround sound before I bought it because I wanted to make sure it would do everything that I wanted it to. The sales people in Omaha were so helpful they answered all of my questions and showed me how to hook in certain cords. I put this in a new great room I added to my house and it is like being at a movie theater. I can use if for DVD, the stereo or TV. It is more than worth the money. Thanks Best Buy!"

What's great about it: Easy to set up, decent sound

"Right out of the package this item was broken. The subwoofer channel wouldn't make a decent connection. After about 15 minutes of it cutting in and out, it finally stopped sound altogether. I was unable to get a connection after that.

Aside from that, the load tray would catch on it's way out, but it worked just fine when it did load the dvd. The controls were sluggish and sometimes it didn't read the commands at all.

Finally, there are just two or three sound settings on it. Stereo, Dolby, and maybe something else (I already returned this item). You can't control the volume for each individual speaker.

I would not recommend the product to anyone even if it was the only thing in their price range."

"This is a great sourround sound system! The sound is amazing and it also has an auxilary jack so you can hook up an iPod or mp3 player to it. It is very easy to use, and it has several different settings for movies or stereo. Listening to music on the surround sound feels as though you are on stage with the band! For the price this is definitely your best bet. The sound that this system produces sounds like it should cost 3 times more. Excellent system!"
