What's great about it: Tons of features, fast little camera, easy to use
What's not so great: fingerprints all over within the first few seconds of holding it
So I just got this camera yesterday and I'm in love with it! Although getting my hands on one of these was quite difficult, I'm glad I went through all the trouble. The camera I had before this was also a Canon and I decided to get another Canon because I loved it so much. My old camera is 4 or 5 years old now, and the screen is not even 1/4th of the screen on the SD790! I love the hugeness of the screen, it really makes for better picture taking. The videos are great and I love love love the color accent and color swap features. I was up late last night changing colors of everything I own! Really, its a great camera and I'm so excited that I got it. The only problem I found with it was the fingerprints!! Within the first few seconds of taking the camera out of the box, it was covered with fingerprints. But its really no big deal, its nothing a little rubbing alcohol can't fix! I can't wait to take tons of great pictures with this camera.

What's great about it: Huge screen, excellent zoom, lots of fun features, face detection, image stabilizer
What's not so great: Lens is ultra sensitive to sand/ grit
I got this camera 2 months ago after owning an older canon model for 3 years and instantly fell in love. the screen is huge and picture quality is amazing. it has fun features like color swap and color accent but its a whole lot more than a toy. it takes crisp clear pictures from quite a distance using the zoom. Everything i could have ever asked for in a camera. however, beware when using the camera at the beach: the lens is very sensitive to sand and my 2 month old camera no longer works because a grain of sand got stuck somewhere inside. it costs almost as much to fix it as to buy a new one so i got a new one.

What's great about it: the amount of features
What's not so great: difficult to locate particular features with the scroll/circle thing
The amount of features in this camera is really good, especially for someone who understands the features. Locating the particular features however is kind of difficult due to the scroll/circle thing. It jumps from one to the other before you know it. Pretty expensive but worth the money... Don't buy this for someone who doesn't know anything about cameras... They wont be able to enjoy + use the camera to its capability

What's great about it: easy to use, great quality, great price, quick and easy
I purchased this camera a week ago after using it many times. It is 10 megapixels which provides great pictures, and is very fast an easy. I have not tested the full length of the battery, but I shot a lot for two days and it was fine. The charger is nice and compact, and the screen on the camera is wonderful. It has scene modes for different things like landscaping, a video mode, or just auto and manual. The camera is small and compact, but feels sturdy. It feels like it's made of some sort of aluminum. I have been shooting Canon compacts for over 5 years now and they never let me down! Your not going to find a better camera for the price.

What's great about it: Takes great pictures AND video, large screen, lots of easy to use features
What's not so great: No triple flash feature to prevent blinking
This camera is awesome. I bought it because I had lost my Nikon Cool Pix S50 that I had had for about 2 years and loved. When I went to go replace it, I was so upset to find that the new Cool Pix did not look like my old one (mine had a huge screen, it was very sleek...i loved it). So based on tons of great reviews, and because it resembled my old Cool Pix more than the new Cool Pix, I bought the Canon Digital Elph and could not be happier! It takes excellent pictures....very clear. It has tons of shooting options...the night shooting feature works great! So much better than the night vision on my old Cool Pix which would always be blurry. This Canon also takes awesome quality video. I took some short videos from a recent vacation and it looks like they were taken with a camcorder. I have also taken video at concerts and the quality and sound are awesome. I've gotten so many compliments from people on the quality of the videos I posted. It also has a huge screen and is so easy to operate. I only had to consult the manual once, the rest I figured out on my own. For a high quality point and shoot digital camera, this is your best bet. I realize now that my old Nikon looked really cool, but the quality was just not as good. And the Canon Digital Elph looks pretty sweet too. The only 2 downsides are: 1) It is slightly heavier than some of the other options out there...but don't let that deter you...you get used to it after the first use. It's not an issue at all for me anymore, and 2) There is no triple flash feature to prevent blinking, which the Nikons all seem to have. I blink a lot in pics, but so far it has not been an issue. So overall, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

What's great about it: Great price for the overall camera quality
What's not so great: a little complex at first but after reading the manual becomes easier. not a huge fan of the buttons
Very pleased when I found out the price for this camera was only $169. saw all the great reviews for it and decided to try going with this Canon rather than Nikon. Really enjoy playing with the variety of features. excellent battery life. takes a little time to get used to the buttons and the dial. not a huge fan of them but you get used to it.

What's not so great: flash produces red eye because of proximity to lens
this camera is a great addition to my DSLR. it fits in my pocket and the quality of the photos is great.
if you are aware the flash produces red eye because it's proximity to the lens, you can work around this problem.

What's not so great: Nothing
I broke my old canon and I LOVED that camera. I decided to go with a different brand, and it made me realize that I love canon. So I thought I would get a newer, better camera, and this was it. Ever since I have had it, its been nothing but smooth sailing. IF you want a GOOd camera, this is it...NO DOUBT.

What's great about it: Plethora of features, great picture quality, durable, great battery life
What's not so great: metal chassis gets fingerprint stained easily
This camera is the perfect compromise between sport and professional digital camera. It's small enough to carry around easily but advanced enough to provide beautiful pictures in high definition quality.
The 10 mega-pixels make artistic snapshots of life commonplace.

What's great about it: Easy to use, good size to fit in purse!
I have always had a Kodak camera. I wanted a smaller camera that did everything my big camera did plus more. I chose this camera for the color accent feature! I love this camera. I scrapbook and I am able to take pictures that look great! It is also easy to use and it stays charged for a long time. You need this camera!

What's great about it: image quality, special features, size
What's not so great: I dunno...
I upgraded to this model from a Canon A85 and I'm absolutely in love with it! The camera is decently sized so that I can take it with me everywhere - it fits fine in pants pockets (although it is the only thing I carry). It's turn-on time is pretty quick. I did a side-by-side comparison with A85 and by the time the A85 splash screen had cleared, the SD790's lens was ready to go! (I'm talking maybe 1 second and this thing is ready for action) As far as battery life, I take it with me every day and recharge every two or three days.
The best part by far are the bells and whistles. It has a lot of different shooting modes and they're all fairly intuitive. It also has a focus-point zoom option that shows exactly what the camera focus is centered on.
For the price, this was a no-brainer for me.

What's great about it: simple to use, great pictures, good price, tons of features
I bought this camera after seeing it for sale at Best Buy. On both the Best Buy site and the Canon one, it had a rating of a staggering 4.7/5 stars. I had been debating between this camera and the Nikon Coolpix S230 (The colors and touch screen were alluring). When I went to my local Best Buy, I asked their person in the camera department and they said hands down to get this camera.
I am so thrilled. This camera is replacing my 6 year old Olympus which has gotten horribly outdated. I've gotten great pictures and love playing around with all the different features and settings. The way the settings are set up are different than any camera I've used before, however, after just playing around with it for a good 20 minutes, I got the hang of it and learned where everything is--and am now able to navigate with ease.
Such a great value for an unbeatable price. (On sale for $169) I'm so happy with my choice!

What's great about it: Easy to use, Great pictures, FANTASTIC battery life.
What's not so great: Not one thing.
This is the best camera for the "every day joe" looking for a 'point & shoot' camera.. It is super easy to use and takes wonderful pictures. I keep mine in my purse so it's always handy. I got this one because my old one's battery died after 3 or 4 pics. This one: I charged the battery when I got it (almost 1 yr ago) and it just now is needing re-charging. It's always ready to use when I need it. It is small, handy and ready to go: Just what I wanted from a camera.
If you want a great camera that is simple to use, with a GREAT battery life, then this is the camera for you.

What's great about it: Great pictures, especially indoors
What's not so great: Maybe more zoom, but for price that is being picky
Originally had the Nikon Coolpix S220. I like the size of the coolpix and the features, but the coolpix did not take very good indoor pictures. I read a lot of reviews about the coolpix and how you had to play with the settings to get great indoor pictures, but I did not find that to be the case. I changed several settings and experiment a lot and could not produce consistent quality pictures. It did take good outdoor pictures. That being said I returned the coolpix for the Canon 790IS and could not be happier. It is very easy to use and takes great indoor and outdoor pictures, and is very compact in size.

What's great about it: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
What's not so great: Difficult to use, bad control dial design
This camera may take wonderful pictures and have great features, but I would hardly know, because I am more often than not unable to perform basic navigation on the camera. The main navigation on this camera is a spinning circular control dial that also acts as a button selector when you press it at the top, bottom, left or right. I have yet to be able to consistently get the camera into the shooting mode that I would like and have certainly missed more shots than I have taken due to the difficulty of using the spinning dial to go from one setting to the next. I suppose if you plan to always leave the camera in full auto mode, then this would not be an issue for you, but I like to be able to set the controls the way I want them for a particular situation and am used to doing so on canon powershot cameras.
On the flip side, the size of the camera is nice and small and it has a great big display screen with a nice picture, which along with the 10MP's, small size, and past experience with previous digital elph products is why I purchased this camera without ever having used or tested the controls.
I would not recommend this camera based solely on the difficulty I have had with navigation, plus there are so many other good options out there from Canon that don't suffer from this interface.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this camera with my birthday money and i love it- it's a great camera. The price was right for 199.99 at the store. I love the color accent its very fun to use. The only complaint I have is on Auto Mode the flash is very over bearing. When i turn it off and people move it blurs the picture..I havn't had it for awile so I'm sure i'll be able to work around it.

It is a great point and shoot camera for small family events. It is esay to switch from still image to video mode. The menue wheel was difficult to control at first, but it is similar to an ipod.
