Fullfilled my need for sound.

What's great about it: easy set up, small unobtrusive bar, good sound
What's not so great: nothing so far
"I have a Samsung TV but I saw the Sony sound bar received better rating and reviews. Set up was easy and the small bar does not detract from the appearrance of the TV area. I connected directly to TV with optical digital cable because I only use Cable TV with On Demand and a DVD. After adjusting the sound level modes higher (+6) the system fills my medium size livingroom with quality sound without turning the volume all the way up. The bar delivers clear voice sound and the sub-woofer delivers enough bass so action movies and music sound great. This is not surround sound, but the sound does fill the room and it is so much better than the TV speakers at a moderate price."

No good.

What's great about it: Compact compaired to a lot of other sound bars
What's not so great: lacking in sound quality
"At first when I saw this sound bar among others as I tested them all out I liked this one the best, though I kept going back and looking at it for months actually I decided to finally take the chance and buy it. They were all out of new ones of this and only had one left which was a returned open one, I took the chance and bought it for the discounted price thinking that I couldn't beat the deal. Well I sadly as wrong, I got home and set it up, used the HDMI cable from my PS3 and turned it on...and was unimpressed, after about an hour of trying to maximize the settings on it my computer speakers I have hooked up to my TV still was far better which really disapointed me. So sadly I returned it same day to get my money back, I have a small room and heard it lacked in bigger rooms but yea...waste of my money but hey take the chance if you wish to. Live and learn I guess lol."

Nice Soundbar...a little overpriced.

What's great about it: Compact. Decent sound. HDMI hookups.
What's not so great: Better than TV speakers...but not by a mile.
"This is a nice little system but...in all honesty...you are better off getting a full surround sound system for almost the same price.
I got an open box version for $124.00 and...for that price...it was a steal. But I would not pay more than $200.00 for one of these...they sound better than the TV speakers but aren't really that much louder. And even though the overall sound is very good...dialogue often gets drowned out by the background noises(special FX/music) during movies.
I do like the construction and look...plenty of HDMI inputs. But for a few more bucks you can get something that has a lot more power to it.
That's all"

What's great about it: Crisp sound, good bass, great for the price
"I did a lot of research before purchasing this. I love it. The sound bar doesn't take up a lot of space. I've got mine under the tv and you don't know its there. I cant complain about the quality. It sounds great in my living room which is moderately sized."

What's great about it: Easy to set up, three HDMI inputs, comes with optical cable
What's not so great: Do not expect the sound of a True 5.1 system
"Very easy to set up and has three hdmi inputs. I have my Satellite, Xbox 360, and a Blu Ray player all plugged into the back of the bass/ power unit and only one HDMI cable from the unit to my Samsung LCD tv. Do not expect the sound of a 5.1 system but extremely great for a bed room or a smaller living room. I am very pleased with the quality and the simplicity that this unit has. I did not want speakers and wires all over my living room. It is way better than the factory tv speakers. I highly recommend."

What's great about it: easy setup, looks good.
What's not so great: sound quality is good for small rooms.
"was only moderately better than the TV speakers. Sound qualty was not good enough to justify the cost. If your room is small enough, these speakers would sound great!"

Great sound from an unobtrusive soundbar
01/19/2010
By USCarlos

What's great about it: Quick connection, nice highs, and solid lows
What's not so great: Connection through the sub might bother some.
"The soundbar was connected by optical cable to the satellite and DVD player in close to fifteen minutes from opening the box. Make sure you turn on the optical output on your DVD player, that was my only problem. There are preset equalizer settings for standard, sports, music, and movies, in addition to customizable leveling for the subwoofer and the soundbar. The sound bar is very thin and low profile. It can be set on above or below the TV. The sub sits nicely next to your entertainment stand. The system comes with only one optical cable, so you will need to purchase HDMIs or additional opticals on your own. There is one RCA input that can be used for MP3 players. I have watched a few movies, a couple football games, and listened to my ipod using this system and all have sounded great. In truth it is not true surround sound but it truly adds depth and richness to your TV viewing from home without the need to run wires and drill holes. I nearly purchased an open box Polk 360, no subwoofer, but that deep end is lacking. For the money, this is an excellent value. My only real gripe is that Sony does not provide at least a cable to be used with it's dedicated media port. Luckily I have one that came with my camera that should work fine, but I have yet to test it out. The ipod and bluetooth adapters range from $59-99. Not worth it in my opinion."

Great speaker system

What's great about it: Easy to hook up.
What's not so great: Subwoofer seems large.
"Overall, this is a great speaker system. Easy to hook up to the Sony Bravia. The only thing that might be a draw back is that the subwoofer is the size of a PC tower. The speaker bar sounds great and fits perfectly in front of the flat screen."

Surprisingly good

What's great about it: Delivers surprisingly good sound. If you don't have the room for 5.1 system, this is a great substitute and looks great.
What's not so great: Price could be a bit lower.
"If you don't have the room or money for a 5.1 system, this is a great substitute. Sound is crisp and clear and plenty loud. Since it's a Sony, other Sony electronics hooked up to it can sync and "talk" so it automatically turns on and changes to the settings you previously synched up. Looks great too."

Nice soundbar

What's great about it: Sounds great, nice slim design, easy to use, wall mountable, HDMI
What's not so great: No onscreen interface (GUI)
"This thing sounds great!!! Don't expect the same sound as a surround theater set up. But it does sound better than I expected. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to increase the sound performance in their home without adding all of the confusion and clutter of a full sound system. Price is good, remember, it has plenty of HDMI inputs. Something that the others in it's price range are lacking. I'd say that the only thing missing would be an on screen graphical user interface. If you want that, get the HT-CT500. My Sony STR-DN1000 in the living room has it, very nice. Anyway, thumbs up to Sony on this one. So glad to see that they are stepping up their game in the audio field. They were slacking off there for a few years."

What's great about it: Easy setup

What's great about it: Easy to set up and very good sound quality for the price.
"I had been looking for several months for a sound bar because I could not accommodate a complete surround sound system. I looked at other brands but bought this one because it fit perfectly in front of my XBR9. I was taken by surprised by the sound quality. I am very happy with everything, and it has greatly helped the quality of my TV and Blu Ray player."

Great Sound! Nice Compact Setup

What's great about it: Small compact setup
What's not so great: Not enough sound
"I bought this with the Sony 32" LCD TV best buy combo a few weeks ago. This soundbar and subwoofer package is a great value. Yes it is not too loud but is perfect for a small room like a bedroom. I initially hooked it up to my living room but I could tell not enough sound was coming from it. You will reap the benefits in a smaller enclosed room."

What's great about it: Very sleek/low profile & easy set up.
What's not so great: Could be a bit more powerful.
"Great for small space which my 52 Sony Bravia is set up in. Like the very low profile design; as it sits very unobtrusively below my 52" Sony. Not bad sound at all; however, I'd like just a bit more bass and volume. The included remoted works for everything: Sony Bravia 52" LCD, Sony BluRay player, and Sony Soundbar w/Subwoofer. Great for the price as long as you don't spend over $200 for it."

Amazing sound
01/10/2010

What's great about it: Great sound, easy to set up
What's not so great: Minor sound delay
"I am using the sound bar in a smaller space, with the TV about 5' from the sofa. The sound is amazing and powerful. We tested it by watching the dragon chase scene from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, so there is a lot of noise and music. The sound was amazing. The only issue is that the sound bar can be at a minor delay to the video (and is also slightly behind the TV volume, so I turn the TV volume off). I only found it distracting on one DVD so far. Not very noticeable with most DVDs or with cable TV. Would definitely recommend at this price if you have a small-to-average sized room."
