What's great about it: sounds good, easy to set up, good price
What's not so great: nada

"Don't really have another sounds system to compare it to -- but it sounds much much better than our LCD TV's speaker. It was very easy to set up -- I just use one optical input with the TV's optical output."

What's great about it: Easy to set up, good price
What's not so great: Wired input, no input for iPod

"I bought this during the holiday season for $100 off the sticker price. I currently have it in my man cave with my Sharp 37" LCD, Samsung Blu-Ray and Xbox 360 hooked up to it. While not the greatest sound, it is far better than the audio output of the TV. It manages to simulate surround sound, and it does put out some nice bass in the enclosed area. The bass module needs to be close to your components, as your audio/video connections must be connected to it. It would also be nice if it had inputs for an iPod, but for it's intended purpose (better sound than TV, preventing me from implementing a wired solution in the room), it certainly does the trick!"

What's great about it: Great price for what you get. The sound is excellent (although don't expect 7.1/5.1)
What's not so great: Adverts are too loud.

"This is a great product - I researched many until I decided on this one.Check out the CNET review if you are unsure.
I was between this and a multi speaker system (5.1/7.1) and although you do not get the whole 5.1 surround experience, I do not regret buying the product at all! The quality is excellent, and with 3 HDMI ports I can hook up my PS3, cable box and DVD player to the system - this was great as my TV only had 2 HDMI ports and I had to switch constantly. I did not notice any loss in video quality by routing the HDMI via the unit.
Setup is simple and there are very few wires running all over the place.
I also like the fact that the IR receiver is on the center speaker which should be near your TV and not on the subwoofer.
I'd recommend this product to anyone.

What's great about it: Great for HD sports
What's not so great: Getting the sound levels right. Bass is heavy

"You know I read all the reviews before purchasing this and saw that PHILIPS TV didn't work and I have a PHILIPS tv from Best buy which only has 1 HDMI port. I was still able to get the Monster HD cable to go from the HD box to the sub woofer and HD cable from tv to subwoofer. I don't really neeed my dvd. HD Sports are awesome with this system. I'm still trying to adjust the intensity of the subwoofer, Is that possible? I got this on sale last month and I think its pretty good!
Power is there if you want some MAJOR Bass and major explosion sound effects while movie watching! The neighbors weren't too pleased! oops!

What's great about it: Sound and volume are great for a sound bar!!
What's not so great: Nothing

"I hooked this up with the HDMI Cables and it sounds great. Have Blu-Ray and Directv hooked up thru the system easy as pie.Read reviews about low volume problems but I have not had that problem. It is in a family room with 15 foot ceilings and it blasts you out of the room.Surround sound not too distinct but as far as hearing movies and TV what a great improvment over TV speakers. Worth the money."

What's great about it: Sound quality, ease of set up
What's not so great: limited volume

"I purchased a Samsung 37" LCD TV to fit in an existing built-in cabinet, and while the sound of the TV was OK, I wanted to enhance the sound for watching movies. I had been looking at the various sound bar systems and found this one on sale. The sub-woofer and sound bar fit perfectly into the cabinet. After plugging everything in, my first test of the system was watching Iron Man in blu-ray and I was very impressed - especially with the enhanced bass notes and the improved center speaker voices.

This is not a true surround system, but a relatively inexpensive way to significantly improve the sound on your LCD TV and your movie watching experience.

What's great about it: bass
What's not so great: opt cord could be longer

"i bought this unit a few weeks ago and it sounds great! i have a 50inch samsung plasma and this unit makes it seem like a whole new tv. i connected the optical cord from the back of this unit(tv slot) straight to the back of my tv and every component i use works fine with it hooked up this way. i tried using an hdmi cord and heard no difference. manager at best buy says he uses optical cords on his home system. great product if you have no good way to run true surround sound in your setup as i do.

also cnet advises setting the sub output level all the way up(+6) and setting the center unit to baseline(0) to get better sound out of this unit...this works.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Sound

"I only got this product because it was part of a bundled package. I should have left the item in the box and sold it to someone on an online auction. I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy because of the horrible sound quality. The sound is very flat even when you adjust the preset EQ. Do not take this product home unless this item is a "free" bundled item."

What's great about it: Bolsters stock TV audio system

"Iv'e had a couple of rock your socks off whoo-whoo-whoom 5.1 systems and one area some seem to fall short is that low level conversation you can't hear what their saying and then the content changes and pow your rocking the windows. I hate that. Then the wires and carefull experimentation of speaker placement arrgh. I just wanted something quick and easy...something that would just enhance the audio system of my Sony Bravia. This is the ticket. Out of the box and hooked up in just a couple of minutes. Nothing I own was this easy. They could have forgotten to pack the instruction booklet. I appreciated the guy who warned about buying a system with a wireless subwoofer, because we have a wireless router and tend to work with laptops all over the home and that would have totally sucked if we could not use both at the same time. Ok the sound is good. I would say 90 percent of our listening is TV, listening to people talk. This part of the systems bandwidth is very good, more punch and clarity at lower volume levels. Grandma will think her hearing aid got new batteries and you won't have the volume up to deaf lepord levels. I got what I wanted somthing easy quick and enhance my tv audio 10 fold. Signed not trying to compete with the audo file afficianado's."

What's great about it: Easy Setup, Good Sound in the bedroom.
What's not so great: lags on HDMI from cable box

"Easy Setup, Good Sound in the bedroom. have this on my 46in insignia. sound way better than the TV speakers. Great for Blu-Rays. Watched Transformers last night and sounded great. Good Bass. Only problem is that when the Cable box is hooked up through the HDMI, i get a lag in the voices to the picture. when hooked up through optical there is no lag. all in all, good system."

What's great about it: 3 HDMI in, 1 HDMI out, 3 Digital Optical inputs, 2 speakers total, not many cables, great sound
What's not so great: Nothing. It's perfect.

"First off, I would like to state that this is my FIRST surround sound system, so I cannot say that it's better than the multiple-speaker 5.1 systems. I got this soundbar as a Christmas gift and I love it. 2 speakers, small, compact, and hardly takes up space (Perfect for my bedroom). The system beat out our 50" Samsung DLP hooked to a Bose wave radio. The system supports Dolby DIgital 5.1, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II. To get the best sound from the system, I reccomend that you hook each device via HDMI and output HDMI to your TV (I've noticed that just having all devices hooked up to the tv and having the tv ouput digital optical to the system bottlenecks the sound). Understand that to recieve SOUND and PICTURE, you have to select the INPUT that the specific device. To get 5.1 ouput, YOU MUST SET UP YOUR DEVICE'S AUDIO SETTINGS TO DOLBY DIGITAL. My setup consists of a 42" Dynex 1080p LCD flat panel televison, an Xbox 360 Elite, a PS3, a Wii, PS2, and an Direct Tv HD reciever. My PS3 is hooked up via HDMI in the BD HDMI input, my 360 is hooked up via HDMI through the DVD HDMI input, and my Direct Tv is hooked up via HDMI via SAT HDMI input. My PS2 Shares my 360's input with the Digital Optical jack (I just took a Digital Optical cable and hooked it to the back of my PS2 and into the jacks in the back of the subwoofer). As long as you don't have both devices on the same input running, it will work just fine. My TV is hooked up through Digital Optical to the subwoofer. Now, if you want 5.1 output from your TV, then you have to go to your TVs sound menu, and switch sound output from PCM (standard digital audio) to RAW or Bitstream (surround audio) (the same applies to Xbox 360 and PS3 and Direct TV). To experience Dolby Pro Logic II, you have to make sure that the device is connected via Digital Optical or HDMI, and that the system is set to MOVIE, GAME, or SPORTS mode from the SOUND FIELD button. The subwoofer also has a D-import jack that allows you to hook up an Ipod or other MP3 player (provided that you have the D-Import dock). The system provides incredible sound and has options to adjust the subwoofer level and sound bar level, along with A/V sync, and HDMI control, which allows you to controll your Tv, and HDMI devices with the same remote. This made an awesome Christmas gift and is PERFECT for small rooms such as bedrooms."

Awesome product!   12/26/2009
By Earthen from Riverside, CA

What's great about it: The awesome sound, the ease of installation, shuts off with TV, great value!
What's not so great: Still trying to figure out how to make the Sync work, if even possible with my set-up.

"I did a lot of research on various sound systems that did not require lots of wires or speakers for my master bedroom and this system works great! I have a vaulted ceiling and the ability to customize center and bass levels is great. Movies sound wonderful and the TV sound is much improvement over the TV speakers! I highly recommend this product and I almost fell victim to the "expensive" cables that Best Buy recommends (Monster). I bought inexpensive Dynex HDMI that Best Buy pushes ($30) and they work wonderfully. HDMI is a digital signal, its either there or not. This soundbar is a great investment for the price if you are looking for an awesome sound system that doesn't break the bank and is easy to install! Great left and right field distinction. I have mine resting on a ledge ABOVE the BRAVIA LED I have hanging on the wall. Recommended for smaller rooms (bedrooms, guest rooms, etc. not large living rooms). I am thoroughly enjoying the cinematic experience from the comfort of my own bed now (I have a 7.1 system surround in the living room)."

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: not good sound

"To start with the manual is not clear, tech spt. from
Sony is lacking. Sony told me to take a hdmi cable & hook it up from my directv receiver & hook into the subwoofer. If i did that i'd loose my directv, i called directv, they said NO! use the audio cables, hook in receiver then sub woofer, i did, got sound. The sound was some better than the tv. For the money, no way is this system worth $299 or even $199. Once i got sound the remote did not work the sound, tv or anything else. It even took the code out of my directv remote, once i did that nothing worked. The Sony products are suppose to work each device, WRONG! they didn't work anything. Even the tv remote that came with tv would not work the tv. Again Sony tch spt. is lacking. I have a Sony BR 460 dvd player, i hope it will hook up to my Sony tv better than this sound system. Don't waste your time/money unless you pay to have it installed. Even if you do it's not worth the price, sound is just not that good.

What's great about it: Compact, easy set up

"I finallly broke down and purchased an LCD tv and was looking to compliment and enhance the sound and viewing of the unit. I selected the Sony because of m living room size and did not want to be overwhelmed with a 5 speaker system. I am very happy with the unit. Obviously it is not as powerful as a 5:1 system, so I knew what I was getting for the money. I am very pleased with the Sony. It does just what I wanted it to do. It enhances the sound and viewing of DVD's and regular television. Easy set up too. Not to mention that Best Buy price matched the unit 27 days after I purchased it."

What's great about it: Sound (highs, lows) easy to use/setup, takes up little space, pretty attractive
What's not so great: nothing

"bought the sony sound bar the other day. placed it in bedroom. system works wonderfully. easy to setup and sounds great with the roku. was kind of hesitant in the store and after reading the reviews that it wasn't powerful enough but for a smaller/medium sized room (15x20), it has plenty of power. in the store, it didn't seem like it could really crank up but it was running off only one of the three sound bar speakers. it was in pretty rough shape. display models, what do you expect. compared it to other soundbars in it's price range, the sony absolutely trumps all them. like most others have said, it's not ever gonna replace a 5.1 or higher surround sound but if your looking for something simple, elegant, easy to use and great for movies/tunes, your set. simply can't go wrong with this purchase."

What's great about it: Sound, Price, Look
What's not so great: manually change the bass

"I bought this soundbar a few days before thanksgiving. It was on sale for $199.99. I was waiting to purchase it before christmas as a present to my fiance and I. However, once I saw it for $100 off I could not pass it up. It was very easy to set up although some of it is kind of confusing. I don't know if I need to put all cables in like it shows or not. While on standard, it sounds normal, but switch to sports or especially movie and you will notice the difference. I put Transformers 2 on blu ray and it sounded amazing. One disappointment was, I don't know if it is possible to manually change the bass or if it is automatically set when you put it on the certain input. Overall though, it's a great upgrade over my cd player we were using."

What's great about it: easy to set up, easy to use
What's not so great: sound is not as 'room filling' as hoped

"I like that the tv inputs go through the sub box, so i do not have to switch them on the tv all the time; makes it a little quicker. The bar does not take up much space and fits on my stand nicely. The sound is not the best, but does get a little better with some tinkering with the settings. I was looking for a little more surround sound effect, but your probably not going to get that with a sound bar."

What's great about it: easy to set up great sound
What's not so great: nothing

"picked up my sony sound bar today I can't get HD ware I live to many trees bought a sony bravia 46" tv now the sound bar. At the best buy stoar they explaind how to hook it up but by the time I drove home I forgot. But it was fairly easy. I run a hdmi cable from my sony blue ray to the sub woofer on the sound bar then a hdmi cable from the sub woofer to the TV so i have HD sound from my blu ray. then I run a red and white from my cabel box to the sub woofer that supplys the regular tv sound to the sound bar then i muted the tv speakers all works fine and sounds great it appears the sound bar remote controls alot of the blu ray and tv controls need to play a little more with it."
