After a month I'm still totally satisfied with this TV. Crystal clear on HD channels. I have 40 or 50 HD channels and 15 or so are widescreen, maybe more. If you don't have cable, satellite, or fiber optic service don't expect amazing pictures. Researching HDTVs can be overwhelming at times, but there's one thing I would mention. Many channels will still be in 4:3 aspect ratio, not widescreen. When I watch these channels the picture is about the same size as it was on my old 32" TV. Not a problem for me, but you may want to go a little larger. After watching the price drop a few times, I finally bought. Now it's dropped another $200. A steal at $799. Just a great HDTV.
What's great about it: Stunning picture, lots of inputs
What's not so great: A little slow starting, price dropped again after I bought it

I looked in every store for prices and picture Quality and found sony to be the one with the best sound and picture. Ive bought lg42 and it was a nightmare with picture that was real bad and sony took first place in my eyes ive tried other brands to and had to bring them back too so if you dont want to keep going back and fourth then give sony a chance to win your eyes over too you'll enjoy it and its features as well and if you love xbox360 or playstation#3 it has a great game setting that makes the games come alive so try it and see for yourself.

What's not so great: Nothing i Can See So Far

I bought this TV a little over a month ago and love it. Simple and easy setup that guides you though everything. Takes about 10min then you are ready to go! Comes with a guide feature which is great for me because i do not have comcast yet and now i am not guessing what is coming on next! Sound is great and picture is excellent. Comes with many many settings and inputs. I have my macbook hooked up to it, wii, ps2, and ps3 and they all look amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
What's great about it: Perfect Picture, Many inputs, Tons of Settings
What's not so great: not 120mhz

I purchased this tv a week ago today for the same sale price of $999 that many other people on this site say to have purchased it for. After reading several of the mixed reviews on this product, I was so apprehensive about it that it actually remained in the original packaging unopened in the hallway of my house, accompanied by the moderately priced entertainment stand that I purchased for it up until last Saturday evening. Then came, "the moment of truth"...I first assembled the entertainment stand and then mounted the tv, which, solely based on apperance...was gorgeous and could make any tv stand look amazing. I then plugged it in and turned it on, unsure of what I would receive by way of the amazing quality often described on this site and to be honest...I did not share this same expereince or opinion. The picture was subpar to what I viewed in the store and the sound was inferior as well. I threw in "I Am Legend" on regular dvd and in a regular dvd player and it made a store bought dvd look like a bootleg copy. I then cut that off and cut on my wii to see how that looked and to be honest, it wasn't bad. The next day I went out and bought a blu-ray dvd player with the upconversion capabaility and threw on the same dvd and....WOW!!! All I could say/think was, THIS is what I spent my money on and it was WELL worth it!!! In closing I will say that this tv is NOT for standard definition/analog viewing if you aim to be impressed. It MUST be accompanied by a blu-ray/upconverting dvd player and/or surround sound to appreciate it. Once these have been accomplished, you will be EXTREMELY happy with your purchase! Thanks
What's great about it: High Definition picture
What's not so great: Sound, Standard Defintion picture

This TV is a steal for $999, I got it on Friday and I am more than pleased with it. I use my TV for watching a lot of Movies and TV shows and they look amazing on this TV. I also play a lot of XBOX 360 so for anyone who is hesitant about purchasing this TV because of the blur effect with games like Halo 3 and Guitar Hero, it's not a problem at all. They look and play amazing on this TV. All I needed to buy was an HDMI cable with 10.2 gbps and the refresh rate is so good you very rarely see the blur. The P&P feature is a must have for me, it allows me to watch a football game and play a video game at the same time. Its really awesome. Also I personally think the sound of the TV is one of the best I heard on the new Flat Panels. It feels like you have surround sound even though its just the stock speakers. Very great TV and its honestly worth the retail price of $1,399.99.
What's great about it: Picture is amazing, easy to set up, only $999, and I love the P&P feature.
What's not so great: Nothing at all.

I researched for months and finally decided on this tv after Best Buy put it on sale. I have had it for a month now and I am very happy with the TV and picture. I had really struggled with whether I should get a tv that had 120hz and had read it was a big deal and it wasnt on the internet. I would now say after watching the tv for a month the 120hz is a complete waste of money.
I have watched all kinds of action programs including Nascar and have never seen any motion blur.
Bought an extended warranty direct from Sony vs. Best Buy and saved some money there.
What's great about it: Great Picture and Features
What's not so great: Manual could be a little clearer

I've had this product for almost two weeks now and I have had no problems with it what so ever! The picture is great and I love all the features, especially the interactive TV Guide! It was exceptionally easy to set up and use. My only real complaint is that the pedestal stand is fixed so I cannot easily adjust the viewing angle; other than that, it's a fantastic TV!
I spent weeks shopping around (online and in stores) and I chose the Bravia as my top choice; however, the regular sticker price was a little out of my price range, so I went looking for a comparable one I could afford. Then I saw this one at a good price at BestBuy and decided to get it; the bonus is that this one was open stock so I got it at 10% off (no other retailer does that automatically that I know of?!) Thanks BestBuy!
What's great about it: Excellent picture quality for all uses; easy to set up and learn how to use the features
What's not so great: Sound is adequate, but not as good as I expected; pedestal could be more versatile?

I have just sold my old 46in S series Bravia. It was a 720p model.
It had a very good picture and great sound. I replaced it with this 42in model.
I first purchased the 40W series 120hz model. I was under the impression with the 120Hz model. It had very little motion-blur, but to me it was not worth the difference in price. I t was alot better then my old 46 in S series, but not $1500.00 better.
So then I noticed this 42in V series on sale for $999.99. So I tried it.
First, I do not know if the 120Hz thing is an over hyped option or what, but this TV was almost as good. I play alot of fast paced video games online, and the 42in V series LCD had very little motion blur. The 40in 120Hz W series had alittle less blur, but you could hardly see the difference. I think on a 52 inch screen it might matter. But like the whole 1080p debate, the smaller screens might not benefit as much from the 120Hz option. 60HZ motion flow seems pretty good to me.I will definitly wait for the 240Hz models to drop in price before I try that one.
So on to the colors on this LCD. There are great. the V series and up are a big jump from the new and old S series Bravias. This Tv pops with color.I compared these to the highly rated 1080p Panasonic Plasmas, which were my first choice, and was very dissapointed with the plasma's brightness and overall grainy faded picture . Skin tones are great as are the whites and blacks on this LCD. Very impressive. Black Levels are really a standout here.
The resolution here is really nice as well. The V series and up are really alot sharper then the 1080p S series models, and miles away from the plasma 1080p models, even better then the Pioneer models. This LCD makes a superb PC monitor.
Regular coaxial images are pretty good, but as with higher resolution screens and lower resolution material, you can only expect so much.
Oh and the remote is pretty good. Looks nice, doesn't try to be to many thing and works good.
I did not use the stand, but it seems nice and sturdy. And it looks good to boot.
Connectivity is pretty good here also. Plenty of HDMI to go around. Optical out also. This makes for a good HDMI switch for those of us who still are component only on our HT receivers.
Now the only negative I have is the sound. My old 46in Sseries Bravia had much better sound. Granted we almost all have a surround sound system, but I am old fashioned and like to watch regular Tv shows with out turning on my receiver. And here lies the problem. I personally think the sound it lacking. Alot. But this really is a minor gripe.
Overall you get a budget mid-line priced Screen, that compares almost too well, to the more expensive models.
So check this model out, and you might be pleasanty surprised.
What's great about it: Great colors, easy to setup, very minor tuning needed. Nice remote.
What's not so great: Glossy finish is a finger print magnet. Sound is lacking.

Easy to set up. Fits perfectly in my 7 year old TV/Stereo cabinet after gutting it out. Had a 32" tube TV on one side and stereo in cabinet before. Highly recommended for Hearing Impaired. I asked the Sales Representative to show me the closed captions on TV and compared it with other TV's before I made the purchase and very pleased with it. Liked the Closed Captions features, you can customize it any way you like to your viewing needs. I highly recommend this TV for Hearing Impaired. I bought other big screen TV and didn't like their CC features (too small to read on big screen TV) so I am returning that "other" TV back to "other" store for total refund. Best TV for the price. I will connect my laptop to it some day and hopefully will build a small home media PC.
What's great about it: Excellent TV and closed captions features. Love the picture!
What's not so great: Found nothing wrong with this TV.

If you can afford to spend a few hundred extra dollars on your purchase, go with the 120 Hz model. If you can't fit the extra money in your budget, just wait until you can. Don’t settle for the KDL-42V4100, you would be better off waiting until you have the extra money to get a TV with the 120 Hz refresh rate. I purchased this TV on Saturday night. I set it up on Sunday to watch the NBA games. I exchanged it today (Monday) for the Samsung LN40A630. The 60 Hz just couldn’t keep up with all of the movement going on in the basketball game. The picture quality on the HD channels is average at best on any programs where there is constant movement. On the regular cable channels the picture quality is poor. The salesman told me to go with a TV that had the 120 Hz refresh rate, but I thought he was just trying to "up sell". Had I listened to what he was telling me, I could have saved myself the extra trip back to the store to return this TV. I definitely would not recommend this TV to anyone.
What's great about it: How easy it was to exchange it at Best Buy for my new Samsung LN40A630
What's not so great: The picture quality was a HUGE let down

THE SONY 42' 1080P LCD TV IS WONDERFUL! THE PICTURE QUALITY IS TOP NOTCH. COLORS ARE BRIGHT AND VIVID. THIS TV WAS VERY EASY TO SETUP, AND HAS PLEANTY OF HDMI INPUTS FOR THE ADDITION OF NEW TOYS. I WANT TO ADD THAT IF YOU HAVE A POOR PICTURE QUALITY ON LOWER CHANNELS WITH THIS SET YOU MAY HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE CHECK THE TYPE OF CONNECTION YOU ARE USING, AND MAKE SURE YOUR CABLE/SAT BOX IS SETUP PROPERLY FOR THE TV. THERE ARE SOME SETTINGS YOUR CABLE/SAT PROVIDER MAY HAVE TO MAKE. ALSO YOU MAY WANT TO TRY LOWERING THE SHARPNESS SETTING TO 20 OR BELOW. HOPE THIS HELPS OUT...
What's great about it: PICTURE,SOUND/AUDIO QUALITY,NUMBER OF INPUTS, EASE OF USE & SETUP
What's not so great: NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS TV.

I was torn between this TV and a samsung, got a great deal, bought it, took it home and couldnt believe how blurry it was, i was so dissapointed, but tried to tweek the settings a bit, still no big improvement. The sound was truly amazing. dont buy into the whole 24p cinema hype, it doesnt do a thing for you, oh and playstation looked really blurry on it too. It was good on HD programs, but as whole im so much happier with my new 40" samsung 650 touch of color, if you want an lcd, spend the extra 300 and get a 120 Hz, with the 50,000 ratio too, the tv is wayyy better and for only a few hundo more!
What's great about it: the sound quality and HD programming

picture is great. i had it set up in about ten mins. had to set it up with cable and regular component cables for a day because my hdmi's were still in the mail and it didn't look all the great, but once the hdmi's got hooked up the picture looked unreal. i also have it set up to be my pc monitor and that looks fantastic. the sound is pretty darn good, too. do yourself a favor, buy this tv, buy a blu ray player and the dark knight, then have your mind blown...
