What's great about it: it cleans baked on food

"I had a kitchenaid that was TWICE THE PRICE as this dishwasher. It was VERY loud and left food residue in my dishes. I used to have to wash my dishes before putting them in the kitchenaid.
I replaced the kitchen aid with this LG
I was affraid to put dirty dishes in THIS LG dishwasher! ha ha
I started with normal loads, the dishes came out spotless. Then I started putting dishes in that had some food left on them. Came out TOTALLY clean.
Then i put caseerole dishes that had baked cheese in it. I did not think it would clean it.......BUTI was amazed it was sparkling clean!!!!
i am so happy with this dishwasher. Would recommend it !

What's not so great: Length of Cycle

What's great about it: It is quiet and nice looking. Quiet sold us on it.
What's not so great: Won't clean dishes, 50% dirty on every wash.

"The item looks nice and is super quiet. We were sold on it when the salesperson put a ringing phone inside it. Wish they'd have run a load of dirty dishes through it, if so, we'd have run out of the store. We've followed the manual loading guide, used several different types of soap including the samples included with the unit, and dishes come out with food still on them, glasses have lip smudges on the rim and unclean insides. Every load only cleans about 50% of the dishes. I'm waiting now to see what course I have in an attempt to return the item. Don't waste your money on this item."

What's great about it: Its quiet
What's not so great: The CLEAN light only stays on for 4 minutes

"This dishwasher is quiet and has a lot of space. That is the only positive points. After the dishwasher is run, the CLEAN light only stays on for 4 minutes. I called LG and they suggested this is done to conserve energy. I can't even imagine how little power is required to keep one LED lit until you open the door or turn off the power. One other lacking feature is that the sound has to be disabled every time it is powered on.

As for the installing this LG product, I installed it myself and it was a major pain. The LG required an almost custom install. The Whirlpool brands are much easier to install. For the price, this dishwasher is not worth it.

What's great about it: For the few months it worked well, very quiet.
What's not so great: Water leaks, groaning, sqeaking, multiple repairs, nonexistent service

"Our newly purchased home came with this dishwasher (it is around three years old). Very nice for three months. First problems included water appearing on floor beneath diswasher for no apparent reason. I tried to get a service call, turns out there is no one available to fix these dishwashers in the Pacific Northwest except for a place south of Seattle. No amount of money (in or out of warranty) could entice someone to come to my home to service this item. No one outside of LG has parts for these dishwashers, and three seperate appliance repair centers told me they cannot service these products for this reason (they also told me they get a lot of inquiries for LG repairs from owners like me). I had to remove the dishwasher myself and bring to the service center (2 hour drive). They put in a new pump. Worked fine for eight months, then started groaning, leaking and now I note the top blade does not turn and dishes are not getting clean. TERRIBLE quality for a high end product. Customer warranty service is disgraceful. Get a Kenmore Elite or KitchenAid (high ratings by JD Powers), and avoid LG dishwashers ("Life's Good" as long as you don't own their products...)"

What's great about it: Very Quiet, Clean look, great price
What's not so great: the stemwear holders

"I love this dishwasher. It's super quiet, the only time I can actaully even hear it is when the processor kicks on. I like the little song it plays when it's done with a load. The dishes come out shiny and clean every time. And I stack that baby full! Pot and pans, baking sheets, even my crock pot and cutting board can fit in there! The tub height is great! I like the stemwear holders, but I can't seem to get them to work properly. You would have to have the perfect size glass to be able to use more then one hook at a time. But I make it work. I would suggest this to anyone looking."

What's great about it: Nothing!
What's not so great: Doesn't Dry, Doesn't have Clean Light that Stays on, Flimsy Feeling

"This dishwasher is lacking so much I don't know where to begin.....

1.) The stainless steel doesn't match the stainless I already have in my kitchen. I'm not sure how this is possible, but it is darker and cheaper looking than my stove, fridge and microwave.

2.) The clean light which indicates that the load is through doesn't stay on more than maybe 15 minutes. So after it plays it's little song, if you don't run right over and empty it the light goes off and no one else in the house knows not to put dirty dishes in it! What if you run it at night...perhaps they expect you to leap out of bed and go empty the dishwasher so your family doesn't add to the clean load??? How RIDICULOUS. How much enery are you saving by having a little tiny light go off???

3.) Whoever said this appliance dries dishes was just plain WRONG! After the first time I ran it, I emptied it after about 30 min of it finishing. Everything was wet. Plates, Silverware, Glasses, Plastic...everything. So the next load I waited a couple of hours and ran it with the sanitize rinse cycle. Guess what....exact same thing. I had to hand dry every dish.

For $750 this thing is by far the worst dishwasher I have ever owned and I would even go so far to say the worst I have ever used anywhere. I don't think I would keep it even if it only cost $300, it just doesn't do the job. I have called Best Buy and they are very nicely agreeing to let me pick another and have it changed out for something I can actually live with!

What's great about it: when new was very quiet. Easy to use, great features
What's not so great: constantly had problems with dishwasher.

"When it was first installed, it worked great. Extremely quiet and clean wonderfully. Over the last two years, there have been more repairs than I can to remember. Over three different parts had to be replaced with a fourth one just this week. Should have been given a replacement long ago. Finally getting one. I used to recommend this dishwasher but I would recommend staying away from it now. I've only had it just over three years"

What's great about it: VERY quiet, energy efficient, good price
What's not so great: does not dry plastics perfectly, read my review

"I just purchased this machine, and I have been using it for almost a month now. I too am surprised by some of the negative reviews. So far, I do not have a single problem with this dishwasher.

Some have complained about the cycle time. I have no problem with it, and it is actually a benefit. If the government ever completely bans phosphates from dishwashing detergent, you will be wishing you had a dishwasher with a long cycle time. If you are a person who likes to use "green" products, you will love this dishwasher because the long cycle time will work well with environmentally friendly detergent. It even has an extended cycle called Power Scrub that makes it run for 3 hours instead of 2. You also have the option to add an extra rinse cycle, which will add even more time to the whole cycle. This dishwasher is energy efficient so do not worry about the cycle time.

Noise level? This dishwasher is VERY quiet. I have an open floor plan, so I can run the dishwasher any time I please.

To those who purchase this dishwasher, you MUST use rinse-aid for the drying to work properly. I do three to four loads a week, and all of my glassware, metal, ceramics, and all of my bowls have come out completely dry. Plastics will dry only to a certain degree, I explain this better later in my review.

Also, let me clear up some confusion. Some have said this dishwasher has no heater. It DOES have a heater, but it is an internal water heater. It is not an external heating element sitting on the bottom of the dishwasher tub. This is a GOOD thing. If you choose to use the Sani-Rinse option, the water heater will raise the incoming hot water to the proper temperature during the rinse cycle to ensure that your dishes are sanitized. This heater is NOT activated during the drying process. This dishwasher uses a combination of condensation and a very quiet fan to draw the moisture off of your dishes. It is no gimmick, and it works. It has worked perfectly for me every time. My dishes come out sparkling clean, no streaks. The ONLY thing this dishwasher will not dry very well, are plastic cups. The insides of the plastic cups will be dry, but if the bottom of the cup has a depression, it will be filled with water. I simply recommend that if you purchase plastic cups for use in your household, look at the bottom of the cups and make sure it is FLAT. Do not buy one with a depression on the bottom. Also, the water heater in your home needs to heat the water to a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit, as per the directions. If the water is not hot enough, you are only causing problems for yourself. The detergent will not do its job, you will cause the internal water heater to wear faster, and you will see overall diminished results. Don't try to save a buck by turning your water heater down too low. That goes for any dishwasher, not just this one.

The only reason I would not recommend this dishwasher, is if you DEMAND that your plastic wear comes out 100% dry. In that case, you will need to buy a dishwasher with a heating element in the bottom of the tub. You will be sacrificing energy efficiency though. Those heating elements are high-wattage, and it will have an effect on your electric bill, which will add up over the years of using a dishwasher with one.

A quick note, this dishwasher can be compared to BOSCH dishwashers. It has a stainless steel interior, and uses the same drying method. BOSCH happens to make some of the top-rated dishwashers in the world, and is deemed one of the most reliable brands. They are also VERY expensive. So you are getting the same features and benefits as a BOSCH for less money by going with this LG model. (Again, neither brand will dry plastics perfectly because of the drying method.)

A neat feature I have never seen on a dishwasher, is this makes a soft audible chime (it actually chimes out a short tune) at the end of the cycle. I find it useful because sometimes I like to unload the dishwasher when it's finished running. You must disable the chime each time, if you don't want it to play. There is no option to permanently disable it, but that does not bother me.

Horrible dishwasher - do not purchase   05/20/2009

What's not so great: 2nd motor replacement in 24 months

"Motor failed and had to be replaced 2 months after purchase. LG covered replacement parts and labor. Motor failed again after 24 months of purchase. LG will pay only replacement parts, not labor. Wonder how long it will take for motor to fail a third time. Do not buy this product."

LG doesn't stand by their products   05/13/2009
By unhappy88 from Schererville, IN

What's great about it: Water conservative
What's not so great: takes 2 hours for a cycle

"Purchased LGS5811 stainless steel for $800 dollars 3 years ago. The seal on the bottom of the sump motor unit has failed. Water pours out from the bottom of the unit. The repair is anticipated at $300 because they must replace the entire sump. They say, the warrantee doesn't cover it. Durable goods are investments. We now face the decision to spend the money to fix it or buy another diswasher. Their authorized repair crew, just said "I'm sorry", I would tell you they are worthless and wouldn't recommend that manufacture, if I were allowed to. They just tell me I'm only allowed to say I'm sorry. The repair company said to write a letter to the company, but they doubt they will budge. I will never buy another LG product again. I'm glad we didn't replace our refrigerator yet. We were looking at LG to have them match. That would have been a big mistake."

Really great dishwasher   11/11/2008
By Frankfive

What's great about it: Very quiet
What's not so great: Child Lock

"Pro's
Very quiet! I live in an older house and my cabinets were not installed correctly. So one of the sides of the dishwasher sticks out further than I would like. I thought the dishwasher would be a little noisy but it still is very quiet much to my surprise.
The childlock is a plus, once the dishwasher is running.
The adjustable feet on the bottom were I good thing. Once agian older house floor was a little unlevel were the dishwasher goes. So being able to adjust the feet so the door could close straight was very nice.
Con's
Like most stainless shows fingerprints.(But that was expected)
I wish it had a feature to use the childlock when the dishwasher was off.
Little kids seem to be attracted to the "bing" noise it makes when they turn it on and off.
Hooking up the water line was not something I was used to. It was put in the front of the dishwasher at a funny angle. So I had to have someone tip the dishwasher while I tightened it on. That was just more bothersome than a real problem.
