Great Appliance!...It dries the dishes just fine!

What's great about it: Quiet, Cleans Well, Easy to operate, Oh, it dries *just fine*! Looks great.Large capacity
What's not so great: Rack layout not very flexible. Installation just a tad tricky but not a big deal.
"I had read reviews on various sites about this dishwasher having some issues with drying dishes (or lack thereof). After some searching around and evaluating we decided on this unit. I was a bit apprehensive about the drying critiques that I had seen. I have to say this unit dries the dishes just fine! They come out spotless, piping hot and dry as dry can be. I am not sure what is causing the problem with other reviewers that are having this issue.
It washes the dishes very well and is really quiet. They say to use a rinse aid. I found this to actually make the dishes spotty and hazy, even on the lowest setting. We don't use the rinse aid any more and just use regular dishwasher detergent...works very well. Dishes and glasses are clean and spotless!
The only critique I can give this unit is that the racks are not as intuitive as I would like. Meaning, the top rack has two rows for glasses and a row for bowls. The bottom rack has places for a ton of plates but deep bowls are hard to place on the bottom. I like to load the dishwasher with ladles, large knives, spatulas, etc. on the top rack. When you do this it takes up space where the bowls go and it gets crammed around the glasses. I have figured out how to load it to get everything in there, however. It also has a very large capacity and hold tons of dishes. I also like the way the utensil rack is designed. it holds them all separate and upright in three separable tubs on the right side of the unit. The utensil rack is customizable. Great design!
The only thing I can’t rate right now is durability. This can only be measured by time. Our last dishwasher lasted 17 years. Hopefully we will get the same out of this one…time will tell.
Oh, it is *very* quiet!"

Not sure why so many bad reviews.

What's great about it: Stunning looks, quiet operation and great quality
What's not so great: As with any stainless steel, tough to clean without streaking.
"If you are like me, you read all reviews before buying a product. I came across a floor model of this dishwasher at a Best Buy near our home. I loved the looks and got it for $413, which was about $250 off the normal sale price. I did read all the reviews, which mostly were bad, but thought it was too good of a deal to pass up.
I got it installed today and I immediately ran a load of dishes as soon as the install guy left. I didn't even think it was washing. I heard a small trickle of water and I opened it up and it was in a full wash!! I couldn't believe how QUIET this thing is.
When it was all done, everything came out clean and shiny.
It does take a while to do a load and it doesn't have a heated coil to dry the dishes ( 2 of the most common complaints), however I found that just the natural heat does a good job drying. Just put a load in before bed and start it. Unless you need dishes every 30 minutes, this is a great buy and great quality!!
I do highly recommend this and I also recommend their washer and dryers. My wife and I got a front loader steam washer and the regular front loading dryer and we are blown away by their performance.
LG is the way to go and when we get our new refrigerator, LG will be the brand we get for that too!"

Having the second replaced in 1 1/2 years

What's great about it: The look and sound level
What's not so great: Everything else.
"Bought this in Sept. 08 and within 5 weeks it was replaced because the motor went out. Over the next 1 1/2 years I had repairmen out for because of noise, dishes wouldn't dry and the unit stayed warm constantly. Best Buy is now replaing the second one and not with an LG. This unit looked great and when it's quiet it's really quiet. No way to get any trapped food out either. Looking for a Maytag or Kitchenaid now."

What's great about it: NOTHING
What's not so great: Will not dry dish's not matter how many days they sit in dishwasher
"I have had this unit completely replaced from the main board to the motor and the dish's will NOT DRY, I have to take the dish's out and let them dry in the sink before I can put them away. Even the next day they are still wet, especially anything plastic put in the top tray. It takes 2 hours to wash a load of dish's and things in the top basket do not come clean. I had read the bad reviews and thought it couldn't be that bad but believe me it is! DO NOT BUY!"

Understand how it works!
12/05/2009
By Jim1015

What's great about it: Works great - if you understand how it does its job!
What's not so great: stainless smudges...but that's not really unexpected.
"I read all the reviews and still decided to take a shot on this one. The LG washer and dryer we bought 3 years ago have been excellent. First off - if you are the person who needs to get their dishes out of the dishwasher the moment it signals "complete" - you won't be happy. This unit does not have a heating element, it has a stainless steel interior and uses the residual heat from washing to dry the dishes, which takes considerably longer - with the trade-off of using less energy and not meting your plastic items. Because it has no heating coil, it holds A LOT more than a traditional dishwasher. If you can wait (we usually run ours before we go to bed) your patience will be rewarded in both reduced energy costs and nice dry dishes in the morning. This is a high efficiency dishwasher, think "HE" like newer washing machines. DO NOT fill the dispenser full of detergent, 1/2 to 3/4 is all you need...really! We haven't tried liquids or 'packs' in it, but our results have been so outstanding with the normal powdered detergent included with the dishwasher as a sample, we probably won't try anything else. Why mess with what the manufacturer recommends? Further, you MUST use a 'rinse aid' because it does not have heated drying. A small bottle for about $3 will fill the reservoir and do about 40 loads, but it is a must. The dishwasher will tell you when you need to refill the reservoir. We've been using the same brand supplied with the dishwasher and have had excellent results. This dishwasher is quiet...very quiet...but not "silent". If you are in the same room with it, you can certainly hear it running, but instead of a loud racket, it is more of a little water gurgling and some muted humming noises. Not enough to require you to raise your voice to be heard like our old dishwasher or raise the TV volume out in the family room. If you understand these things, and are willing to forget what you have been conditioned to understand from more 'traditional' dishwashers - you will not be disappointed."

What's great about it: So quiet
What's not so great: Haven't found a thing to dislike so far
"I bought this dishwasher 8 months ago to replace a 20 year old monster. I have not found one drawback to this dishwasher. It is incredibly quiet, it cleans the dishes well, and it looks sleek and modern for hundreds less than other models. I would, without question recommend this product to anyone looking to update their kitchen with a great dishwasher."

What's great about it: NOTHING
What's not so great: DOESN'T CLEAN, MAKES NOISE, BREAKS OFTEN
"I bought this dishwasher along with 3 other LG appliances when I remodeled my kitchen. I have had a problem with each appliance at least once within the first 6 months of operation. This dishwasher doesn't clean the dishes well at all. The dishes are alway soaking wet when the cycle is finished and it takes a lot longer than any other dishwasher I have ever owned. There has been a grinding noise that repairmen can't seem to fix. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a dishwasher. Although this looks like a great appliance the quality is very poor."

What's great about it: Looks nice
What's not so great: Doesn't do what it is supposed to....clean or dry!!!
"My husband surprised me with this dishwasher while I was out of town; I had been looking at this one, but still had not researched it with customer reviews. Too bad....despite looking great, the dishwasher does not perform. I prerinse all my dishes and glasses, and they came out looking dirtier than when they went in the dishwasher. In addition to being dirty, they were still wet, too, even though I chose "heated dry." What a disappointment in the LG name. Even a big discount on this item would not make it worth your while."

DIshwasher works great
10/08/2009
By roboC

What's great about it: Quiet, efficient, dishes come out very clean
What's not so great: Front gets dirty fast with 2 yr-old
"I was skeptical after reading so many bad reviews, but the deal was so good I couldn;t pass it up and I was trusting in the squeeky wheel effect.
After 2 months, the dishwasher still works great. I spoke with the installer and it turned out he owned one also (independent contractor). He gave me the following advice;
1) Don;t use liquid dishwasher soap
2) Don't fill the soap container full. Too much soap is major cause of dishwasher failure/dirty dishes. I fill the container no more than 2/3 full
3) Once a month run a cycle with the washer empty but throw in 1 cup white vinegar after the tank fills.
4) Run Hot Water Tap on connected faucet until water temp reaches max BEFORE starting the washer.
5) Use rinse aid
I followed all his instructions and so far every load has been clean and dry. We lightly pre-rinse dishes because the dishwasher holds so much sometimes it is run only twice a week. Realistically, no residential dishwasher can be seriously expected to clean dried on food-cement after 2-3 days of drying.
I also ran an experiment running the short rinse cycle every day instead of pre-rinsing all but the goopiest dishes. Worked just as well
Complaints about the length of the cycle are improper beacuse that is a fundamental key to the design. Only 1 of 3 spray arms is in operation at any one time. This allows for a smaller motor and pump and equates to a larger internal volume while using less energy. This is also reflected by the drying design. No energy sucking heating element that will melt/burn plastic/wood utensils that fall onto it.
Needless to say, I have been very pleasantly surprised by the performance of this product"

THE LDF9810ST - DISHES NEVER COME TOTALLY CLEAN

What's great about it: NOTHING The dishes have never come clean since the day I purchased it.
What's not so great: The dishes NEVER come clean. I have to rewash them by hand constantly.
"I purchased the LDF9810STY for $1081 and my dishes have never come totally clean since the day I purchased the dishwasher. For the most part, we rinse all food off before we place them in the dishwasher and they still do not come clean. There is residue from whatever liquid was in the glass or cup. If there is salt and pepper on the plate it comes out with salt and pepper remaining on the plate. I contacted LG and they don't seem to care that their product does not work."

What's great about it: looks nice
What's not so great: does not clean well, rinse well and racks are setup wrong
"My husband said whoever designed these racks never loaded a dishwasher. The glasses and plates do not fit well. But the biggest complaint is that it does a poor job of cleaning. We feel we are washing the dishes twice, once before putting them into the dishwasher. It is quiet and it looks nice, that's the only thing good I can say about it."

What's great about it: Runs very quietly
What's not so great: Longer wash cycle than we were used to
"Installation of the unit was very easy. After removal of old unit, it took about 90 minutes, and I am not the most handy individual around the house. You can carry on a normal conversation right next to this unit while it is washing. Wife loves all the features, and has been very satisfied with how it cleans and drys. The wash cycle is longer than previous machine, so we run it as we go to bed or work. This also gives the dry cycle plenty of time to work at top efficiency. I suspect those that are unhappy have not bothered to read the owner's manual. Don't overfill the soap dispenser, don't open while drying, etc.. Shop around when purchasing. We found a full $200 difference in retail prices in the Indianapolis market."

What's great about it: Appearance, Quiet
What's not so great: Everything else
"I bought this one because of the appearance. And you can hardley hear it running. I ignored the bad reviews I read because it seemed like such a good deal. Boy was I wrong. After several tries to give this one a chance I am returning it tomorrow. The dishes come out dirty & covered with soap residue and spotts. I have even gone as far to wipe the dishes with a wash cloth before putting them in. Even tried using the extra rinse cycle. I've tried every rinse agent setting available on the dishwasher. I still have to rinse them & dry them by hand before putting them away. Dont waste your time with this one."

I called LG to talk to them about this problem and they DID NOTHING!!!!! I called Best Buy and they were great and replaced the dishwasher. LG dishwasher is horrible. I beg you not to buy from them. What's great about it: Cleans well, VERY quiet
What's not so great: Nothing So Far
"I recently purchased all new LG appliances. I've never had new appliances before so I researched and I have to admit I was a little bit skeptical because some of the reviews for LG appliances were not that good. However I went out on faith and I am sooo glad I did. I even brought up the reviews to several salesmen at BB and other outlets -- which I know have the propensity to be biased. One guy told me that most of the problems they have are from people not reading the loading directions. So before I used it, I read the owner's manual cover-to-cover. I followed the directions and have used it everyday for a month -- love it! No spots and no food residue, even on dishes that I don't pre-rinse. And it looks great too! I only gave it a "good" rating because it was a little pricey."

What's great about it: Quiet, looks
What's not so great: Leaves flim and spots.
"This dishwasher looks great and is relatively silent while operating. Unfortunately, my dishes came out with a major film covering them. After a lot of research, turning up my water heater, three different detergents and three different rinse aids/jet dry, I was able to improve the performance to just spots and minor streaking. I returned this one for a Kitchen-Aid (on order).
I really wanted this dishwasher to work because I purchased all new LG ktichen appliances and this one matched the set perfectly. The Kitchen-Aid is a pretty close match and unlike this dishwasher, has received great reviews."

"This dishwasher does not clean. Looks nice, but front door smugges easy. Very long normal cycle (2hrs) with no other cycle options. Dishes come out dirty and wet even with rinse aid. It's amazing that I still find soap in the dispenser ater water running two hours in that thing. My wife likes our 15 year old one better. Now I have to go to all the trouble of returning this thing. I'm going to try Kitchen Aid there is very good reviews on those."

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM LG

What's great about it: Looks Only!!! But any dishwasher can do that!
What's not so great: Everything else...does not clean well, glasses come out with heavy cloudy film, smells awful after 2 days, yuck!
"This is the worst dishwasher I have EVER owned! I had it hooked up by a professional plumber to replace a cheaper dishwasher that did not match the rest of our new appliances. Sad thing is that our cheap $200 dishwasher worked great! This LG does not clean well and the glasses have a heavy cloudy film on them and look disgusting. Even after filling with JetDry. After about 2 days it starts to smell awful and by 3 days no one wants to open it to load it. The bottom rack is poorly designed with the prongs so close together it makes it difficult to load. The silverware holder is ridiculous as well. If you lift the top of the basket up to load the silverware it falls right through. You have to put the silverware in each slot of the basket top which is more time consuming. I am ready to put this out for the trash men and buy a new one. I have read reviews on other sites and have read similar opinions to mine. Also, there are a lot of complaints of the motor burning out just after the 1 year warranty period and it takes at least a month for the repair place to obtain a new one from LG. LG - Lousy Goods! Do your homework and check for other reviews...GE seemed to have good things written which I have owned 2 of with no problems."
