"I got this printer on sale, so I figured why not. Here's why not: The ink runs out in less than 50 pages of printing. They say it's low cost, but you have to buy it frequently. The first printer I bought physically broke within the first two weeks. Returned to store for same model. This one hasn't broken, however, it ran out of ink right away, and I don't use the machine very heavily. It does however, print fairly high quality pictures on high quality picture paper. However, this does drain the ink. It has scanning functions, however, you can't control this from the printer, as it says you can. The program must be installed on the computer, and to run it is a pain. Overall, I'd say avoid this printer, unless you got it for $50 like I did. Then I guess it's worth it, since it does print."

"My first printer had to go back. A piece of rubber came out of the machine and stuck to my photo. This controls the paper feed. Then I had problems with the second unit, that Kodak resolved. Now suddenly (months later) the photos are very distorted. Kodak advised to download new software, this did not correct the problem, so Kodak is sending me a new print head. I have to say that Kodak is very good about resolving my problems. Also, the ink is cheaper, but it seems to me that I need to buy it more often. My mistake was buying the printer, then reading the reviews."

"I'm not sure what to think about this printer so far...I have only had it for a couple of weeks but so far it has done an excellent job printing. I have printed several photos, some from the computer some straight from my memory card, as well as documents and everything comes out great. I had no trouble installing it I don't know why so many people had difficulties with that...I do have Windows XP and not Vista, so that may be a factor. The printer is scary loud but I don't care about that and it's also a little bit slow but I'm not in a hurry to get things printed out. The reviews really kind of scare me but I'm just gonna get the warranty Best Buy offers on it before my 30 days are up and then I won't have to worry about it if it goes out. :)"

"This was a great printer for about 4 solid months, then the print quality started going bad. I would have to clean the printhead almost every time I printed a picture. Then that wouldn't even help. I got in touch with Kodak on their Help Center Chat page, and after doing everything they asked they told me they will replace the printhead.
The new printhead came in less than a week, and the printer worked for 3 pictures and 1 document. Then it printed half a document, and stopped. It gave me an error message that told me the printhead is missing or not installed properly. I followed the on screen directions, and still the printer is not working.
Unless you want a 150 dollar paper weight, buy something else."

"Couldn't get the ESP 5 running properly. The Kodak tech had me use a cleaner to remove Kodak software and reinstall the software a few times. Then my XP crashed - suspicious. I read that crashes can happen after adding equipment/software. I couldn't get the Kodak to run properly in my new Vista Premium either. Each time I wanted to use the Kodak I had to call a tech. Frustrating! The Kodak was so unbelievably noisy. I can't comment on the ink value either but I don't mind paying a little more for an ink supply now if the printer works when it should. I absolutely can not recommend the Kodak ESP5 at all. In all fairness, the Kodak techs were good. Best Buy you rock!!! You graciously made an exchange. Kodak you have a lot of work to do on the ESP5."

What's great about it: Absolutely Nothing... And by that I mean NOTHING!!! What's not so great: It's Printing, it's scanning, it's ink consumption, the noise and vibrtion. Thats if you can get it to work at all.
"This is without a doubt the worst printer I have ever owned in my life. I have had a lot of printers, copiers, faxes and scanners in my time. And some of them have not been greatest machines in the world, some better then others. But this one is the biggest let down of any. And when you consider all of the hype and advertising about how great this printer is suppose to be, it is all the more disappointing. I have had this ESP-5 for about six months. I have used about 1 ream of paper (500 sheets), 2 color cartridges and 3 black cartridges of ink. Not very economical? The quality of the text printing is not very good at all. But the quality of picture printing is worse then that of my portable HP printer that I received free with the purchase of my laptop. If you want to thro your money away this would be a good printer to buy. But if you want a machine to print, copy and scan successfully, 'keep looking'. I wouldn’t wish this machine on my worst enemy, let alone recommend it to a friend….NO I DO NOT RECOMEND IT."

"We have had so many problems with the Kodak Printers. Don't waste your money or make sure to get the insurance on it. The one we have right now is our 3rd Kodak printer. We have only had it since May. We rarely use it expect for photo's to send to family members and a few documents. The printer head went out. So everything prints in negative. This is what has happened to all of our printers! I can see if we over used it or had it a while but that is only a few months. It is such a hassle to have to keep exhanging it for a few one."

"My ESP 5 didn't print out of the box. Called Kodak, they overnighted new printhead. Printer worked for one print cartridge life. Changed cartridges and now it will work sporadically. I am in the process of buying ink cartridges to change out, because I can't get it worked on (with Kodak) because it is out of ink. This is strange, because I can't print anything. Nothing is worth this many problems."

"I bought a Kodak ESP5 printer from Best Buy in December '08. It arrived in January '09. Out of the box, the print was terrible. Called Kodak support. They said the print head was bad and they would replace it. (This machine hadn't even been used tha the print head was faulty!) It took about ten days for a new print head to arrive. Installed it and the printer worked fine - for awhile. I have had to install four print heads in the six months I've had it. It is necessary to wait for delivery which takes 7-10 days. This means no printer use. It now catches the corner of an occasional piece of paper (24 pound paper) and destroys it. Ink usage is good, but when my current supply of ink runs out, this thing is going to the junk pile."

"First let me say we are Pro-Kodak people since my husband worked for Kodak for 23 yrs. We kept seeing the advertisements for this printer and how you save money by the low cost ink cartridges, so when we started a new business in the fall of 2008, we purchased this printer since we needed to print alot of labels for our products. We didn't have any installation problems as others did, but many other problems. We were printing labels for our business and the quality and color were not very good.
In addition to color and quality issues, EVERY single time I printed a label, I had to clean the printhead before printing another one or it would print blurry. And after printing just a few labels, I had to buy another ink cartridge. And another. And another. And another. And another. And ANOTHER! No kidding, I spent $90 for ink cartridges within the first 2 months and only printed about 50-60 sheets of labels. I spent more on ink in 3 months than I did on the printer itself. And remember, each time I printed a label, I had to clean the printhead. Talk about frustrating. I was so frustrated and tired of running all over town finding ink cartridges which only a couple of stores carry -and the ones that did only carried the combo pack of black and color mixed so I had to spend $22 every time!
A couple other problems- it would jam and sometimes print out blank sheets of paper - just like the other buyers on here have said.
I finally convinced my Pro-Kodak husband that we were spending a fortune on ink and asked him to re-connect our HP 6200 series All in One. I've been at peace ever since! And guess what? I am STILL using the same color ink cartridge that I bought 4 months ago in FEB! And I buy my cartridges at Cartridge World and only pay $12.95 (black) $14.95 (color) so they are even cheaper than Kodak's cartridges. Now every time I see the commercial for this printer I get angry because Kodak's claim you save money on ink is surely mis-leading and not true!
Oh, I forgot to mention that my HP 6200 All in One only cost $200! And I've never had a problem with it in over 5 yrs! Save your money, don't buy this Kodak printer. It should be removed from the market! www.mthoodorganics.org"

"It took me 3 1/2 weeks to get this printer installed. I thought it was a faulty installation CD, so I tried to do it online. Neither wanted to take, and would not tell me why. I called cust serv. and they had no idea why it wouldnt install, so they sent me a new printhead after much prodding. They were not help, and the new printhead did nothing to help. I went back and forth and finally got it on the computer. Worked good for a week, and I thought my computer was fried, but when I unplugged the printer out of the USB port, the comp worked great. It does not work at all now with the computer, works great if you are printing pics or copying, but not at ALL with the computer. I am going to try to return this. I've had it 2 months and nothing but nightmares. I wanted a reliable printer that would just work OK, and no hassles. Ive now heard of 3 other families that have had weird probs with Kodak printers. I think the prob is internal wiring, electronics - a nightmare - DONT PURCHASE."

"Our scanner stopped working so we went to get a replacement. This all in one printer really does the job. The scanner is easy to operate. The printer works well for documents also. The fact that this can also be used as a copier has come in really handy for work and home. All in all it is the best printer purchase that I have ever made. And the ink cartridges are very reasonably priced."

"I'd read that there were setup problems, not so. I'm running on a household WIFI net with several Mac laptops and a couple of desktops. Setup following the manual took 15 minutes, mostly removing the protective packaging. Software install took about 3 minutes, adding the printer queue, etc. about another minute. 20 minutes after opening the box, I was printing anything I wanted. Okay ... the reviews that claim the unit is a little noisy ... that's true, but it's not overwhelming. All in all, it was as easy to setup as any printer I've owned over the years."

"After having two Koday printer docs break down, I intended to purchase a printer from a different company to print pics of my two young children. However, while at Best Buy, the local Kodak rep convinced me to try this one and assured me that it would be great. This has been the worst purchase I've ever made.
We've never gotten decent prints. The colors are not remotely accurate and lines appear across the picture. Following the instructions in the box, we called tech support instead of returning the printer to the store. After an hour on the phone, they sent a new printhead, which didn't resolve the problem. On the next hour-long call to tech support, I was told to download new software, which didn't resolve the problem. The third time I called, they wanted me to start over with the tests to determine the problem, because all of the notes were gone from my account. They had no record of my previous calls. They sent a refurbised printer, which didn't work right out of the box. This one said it had a paper jam WHEN NO PAPER WAS IN THE PRINTER.
I spent 2 hours on the phone today, spoke to numerous "customer service" reps, multiple managers and the corporate office trying to get some sort of refund to buy somebody else's product, with absolutely no luck. After reading these reviews and seeing that Kodak is well aware of how horrible this product is, I have no hope of any decent resolution from the consumer advocacy group.
BTW, I'd prefer to give a rating of -10, but this system requires at least a 1."

"I bought this printer before I read the reviews and after reading them I almost took it back unopened.However I need a printer right away so I took a chance. The hardest part of the set up was bringing it up three flights of stairs. I have been using it for about a month now and so far have had very few minor problems with it. And I have been very pleased with the print quality. Both the general printing and photo printing have been great, and I have yet to go throught the ink that came with it. I will admit that there have been a couple of times that it seems to hang in the middle of printing. I am not sure yet if this is a problem with the drivers or the printer. But I have worked with many types for printers in the last 40 years (from work horse ones connected to IBM main frames to ones like this one) and they have all had similar problems so this is not unexpected. So far I am very pleased with this printer. I haven't tried the scanner and copy features much as of yet but the little that I have done seem to be very acceptable."

"I bought this printer after seeing the ads for cheaper ink cartridges and great photo quality results. I figured that it being a Kodak product it should be good since they should know a thing or two about printing photos. Instead I have been constantly frustrated by this printer! Half the time it just cycles the paper through it and will not print. One time I used the included software to fix some dark photos. On the screen they were perfect but it printed out a hot mess that wasn't even remotely what showed on the screen. And that was with its own software! Ugggghhhh...I so want to buy a new printer and chuck this thing but I want to try to get it to work at the same time. I actually have gotten several awesome photos out of it so I keep thinking there is hope. I just am tired of having to spend an hour to print one decent picture!"

"I have used epson and hp Photo printers in the past and I find the ESP-5 far superior I have had no problems whatsoever, I would suggest all those who have had problems go to the Kodak web site and 1st: download the updated firmware for this printer 2nd down load the updated software, and follow the installation instructions do not connect the printer untill after the drivers are installed, print and scan quality have been excellent, as for the noise problem the updateed firmware helps to reduce that, any way great printer at a great price the cost of this printer was less than i would have had to pay for the hp and epson ink cartridges if i was going to get both printers ink at the same time"
