What's great about it: appearance, refrigerator design What's not so great: lots of problems, freezer design
"Our refrigerator just celebrated its third birthday, and it's had no less than 10 service calls. Thank goodness for the extended warranty. So far we've had a bad water valve, icemaker, and finally the whole circuit board and electronic display. Keep in mind that each problem required at least 2 visits (and oftentimes 3, if the first guy ordered the wrong part). I would be hopping mad if I had to pay for all these repairs. On the plus side, I love the design of the refrigerator -- you can easily see everything, and there's so much room to load it up. We don't use the freezer much, as we have a stand-alone freezer in the house as well. Stuff does tend to get into a jumble in the freezer drawer, though. The water flow is pretty slow from the water dispenser. Sometimes a line forms of family members waiting their turn for a glass of water. Remember, buy the extended warranty!!!"

$2500 Fridge w duct tape
What's great about it: Great looking machine with Good exterior finish What's not so great: interior plastics are fragile
"When we remodeled our kitchen in 2006 we had the following criteria for our new refrigerator: counter depth, water dispenser in the door and ice maker (not necessarily in the door) After many hours of research, both online and at different stores we selected an LG French door model with freezer on the bottom.
After it was installed we noticed that the temperature showed over 90 degrees, whereas the room was about 72 degrees. Also the water dispenser flowed very slowly. According to the manual you were supposed to pull out the unit and vacuum the back. Since the unit had just been installed we called support and they referred us to the authorized tech who came out to check it. He then told us that the fridge is designed to be free-standing in the room, not "pushed" in the space between the cabinets. And then the temperature gauge would function correctly. Note - the unit is NOT built-in. The water trickle from the dispenser was working as designed.
About one year later, yes, right as the warranty had expired in 2007, a small, thumbnail sized plastic tab broke off the bottom wide drawer- almost $300.00 in parts and labor to replace.
A few weeks ago, in September 2009, the plastic frame that holds the bottom glass shelf (over the two half size drawers) broke in the front left corner and it is now held together with duct tape. Two weeks later another tiny plastic part that holds the lid to the left most drawer.
When it comes to the general construction and design of the drawers it is substandard and LG should be ashamed of themselves. The half drawers are designed for fruits and veggies, but if you put anything heavier than lettuce in them, they fall off the convoluted rails and you need an engineering degree to put them back in.
Support and customer service assures us that we are the only ones ever complaining about this. Replacing plastic parts is ‘standard maintenance’. It seems the design of metal rails and bars in combination with tiny plastic tabs and attachments is a very bad combination
If you put bottles weighing too much in the doors they do not close properly and you have to give them an extra forceful push. LG service and support has not provided any service, just excuses.
On a scale of 1-10 we put LG at about a minus 5- never fully functioning, insufficient materials design, and poor service satisfaction."

What's great about it: French door design is nice What's not so great: Inadequate ice maker, doesn't seem very durable
"I am usually a big fan of LG products because of their focus on making them user friendly with some well-thought-out features. However, this product has been a disappointment. Less than 2 months after our purchase we had to have the computer control board replaced. The ice maker frequently gets jammmed with refrozen ice cubes because of the design of the outlet which allows ice cubes to thaw and then refreeze at the outlet. And, on a good day, it can't keep up with our demand. In addition, the top freezer drawer gets ice build-up that makes the drawer hard to open. I thought defrosting freezers was something that was in the past! To top it off, we have already had one of the door racks break. This unit is far too expensive to have this many strikes against it!"

Icemaker can't keep up08/09/2009

What's great about it: Freezer organization, adjustable shelving What's not so great: Icemaker does not keep up!
"We've had this for just about a month now. After the first delivery was botched and left us with a bent door hinge, uneven doors and chipped paint, BB did do an exchange for a new model. The installers could not get these doors even and blamed our old house and uneven floors. After they left, my husband was able to spend the time needed to even out the doors and they close easily now. The ice maker simply can not keep up. It is a step backwards from our old fridge, that always had too much ice. I've now taken to using ice cube trays to supplement the ice maker, since it just can not keep up with our 2 adult, 5 year old and 2 year old household. For the amount of money we spent on this fridge, I expected the ice maker to perform quite a bit better.
The design of the shelves are great. I really like the half shelf that has a pull out to make it a full shelf. Didn't think we would use it that much, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite features.
We have a freezer chest, so the freezer compartment was not that big of a deal for me, but I do like the dual drawers and being able to put popular items in the top shelf (plus my ice cube trays that I haven't used since the 80's.)"

What's great about it: It's a beautiful counter depth refrigerator What's not so great: Freezer is small depth 12" and must watch size of items you purchase!
"I did not really realized how a new refrigerator would open up and add to the complete look and feel of the kitchen. I have a DCS duel fuel range and a Kitchenaid stainless dishwasher but after this was installed; it makes the look and feel of the kitchen feel more affluent.
The water and ice dispenser worked perfectly. The LCD lighting is very nice and bright! Duel doors both for the refrigerator and freezer makes storage of items easy to remember and retrieve. It was the right size for my opening and looks like it was a built-in.
I thought that I might not have enough storage for the refrigerator area but it more then enough for me! They way the refrigerator shelves are arranged; it made for better placement of items and thus you can get more in the space then my old side by side 25 in.
I had it a month now! No complaints yet! You cannot go wrong with this refrigerator! Has the solid stainless steel and quality doors. Very quiet. Very high end refrigerator!"

What's great about it: The look and water/ice dispenser. What's not so great: Not enough condiment storage space. Inefficient design.
"My wife fell in love with the french door design and the double freezer drawers. After 3+ months of use we wish we would have gone with a GE Profile side by side instead. This LG fridge is awkward at best to get into. Very little space for condiment jars to be stored in the doors (the usual spot) and forces you to put them on the shelves taking up valuable space. In order to open the wide storage drawer you MUST open both doors. If you don't know exactly where the thing you want is stored you end up opening BOTH doors. The ice maker takes up way too much space in the left door. Guests have complained that their ice took on flavors of food within the refrigerator area since the ice is made in the left door.
Unless you plan to regularly store wide party trays I suggest you shy away from this refer and look at another design.
I will say that the ice and water dispenser is probably the best I have ever come across or used but it certainly does not make up for the other areas that lack design intuition.
I told my wife that we should have purchased a GE Profile side by side, but noooo, she didn't listen. Now she agrees with me, $2,000 later."

What's great about it: Features, quality, design, performance What's not so great: Price
"We've had this LG refrigerator about 2 weeks and we love it. A lot of thought went into the design. The ice maker/dispenser is especially well designed, i.e. it's all contained on the the back of the door and doesn't take up shelf space. The LED lights that illuminate the interior look really sharp, as does the stainless steel exterior. The double drawers for the freezer make finding things much easier. We got the 20.5 cubic ft model because the slim depth doesn't extend into the walkway in our kitchen. However, if you have a large family you might want a larger model. It's not cheap, but we feel like got our money's worth and would recommend it to other buyers."
