I have to rate the TG1 as excellent because of the picture quality compared to other "pocketcams." I come from professional 2/3" chiip cameras and shoot mostly with a Canon XH A1 now. The TG1 is for personal use and I wanted something I could carry in my pocket when walking around in the city, etc. The idea is to always have a camera on me for those times I would otherwise miss useful shots.
The TG1 will not compare with professional cameras, but it's not supposed to. Even so, on certain types of shots in good lighting, I can intercut its footage with that from bigger cameras successfully.
I shot night footage in heavy fog and it looked great. It's an excellent point-and-shoot camera and its auto functions work very well in most conditions. Manual overrides are in the menu, so a little awkward to access but no more so than other small cameras.
I bought an 8 gig card and need to get another battery and one or two more cards if I take the camera on a vacation.
AVCHD editing with Final Cut Pro in an Intel Mac is easy using Log and Transfer to get the footage to ProRes422. ProRes takes up a lot of space. If you use iMovie, it automatically goes to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) which uses less space and is good enough for most of what most people probably would do with this camera.
The weight and shape makes it easier to handhold with one hand than most other little cameras, I think.

I received this camcorder as a gift. Fantastic! Lightweight so your hand does not get tired like the heavier models - hence steadier video clips. The battery lasts greater than 60 mins. It is not quick when transferring from video to still shot - so don't expect to capture a still photo in the middle of your action video. Memory stick much easier to transfer to home computer than old DVD tapes. Overall, easy to use - my 6 year old can operate it. Definitely recommend.
What's great about it: This camcorder is very lightweight and easy to use.
What's not so great: Can not easily transfer from one mode to another in a flash.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I give Sony products a thumbs up! this gadget is very easy to operate even if you don't read the manual (please read it anyways so that you won't damage your gadget). Great picture and video quality. It is very compact and light weight. Easy to carry around and fits in your pocket. Just pick it up and its ready to record or shoot pictures with the quick on feature. The battery lasts a long time and recharges super fast. Its not cheaply made very durable and well designed. Sony.com has lessons on how to take videos/photos and how to get the best out of your camcorder/camera. You will not regret buying this product. Take my word!
What's great about it: Easy to operate/awesome quality
What's not so great: nothing for me to complain about

This is such a easy camcorder to use. I let my daughter
borrow it, and she said it was so easy to carry around on her trip.

This camera is terrific. My uncle bought this camera for me to record good stuff on my vacation and the places we visited. Sometimes when I press the record button,it responds late because you know how other camcorders respond quickly when pressing a button,well this camcorder doesn't do that,but overall this caamera is great and I recommend buying it

What's not so great: a little bit slow on the buttons(I will tell you it on my review)

Very responsive: you open the screen and its ready to shoot.
Moving between still mode and video mode is super fast and so is the menu system.
Solid built, superb titanium casing with scratch resist.
Video quality is very good, sharp detailed scenes even when the light is not strong. I compared it head to head with Sony HDR SR-1 (1/3” cmos), and amazingly it managed to produce sharper video.
It focuses lightning fast (faster then the SR-1), have excellent Auto mode making videos that are always at their best, excellent face detection, the camera mange to adjust the focus, exposure and other parameters to produce well balanced videos with people faces.
Indoor it’s not as great but not bad either, colors are good and so is sharpness, but it’s a little grainy.
Still mode, unfortunately is almost a gimmick, photos are not sharp, and most of the time very grainy.
Image stabilization works very well despite its not optical, again compared to the HDR SR-1 and video shakes were almost the same, the digital stabilizing may sacrifice a little video quality, but it’s hardly noticed. I think the small size of the camera with the way its being held has (in this case) much more effect on video shake.
All and all this it’s a very good performer, just forget the stills, and hold it secure when zooming video.

It's cool lookin' and very easy to use. And takes good still pics. Touchscreen is good.
I ordered it (and payed for) to be delivered express and expected it to take 1-2 days, but it took 4 days.
