What's great about it: Nothing What's not so great: It works, it doesn't, it works, it doesn't, it doesn't work
"With a new laptop with a wireless N card inside -- and the desire to add some network storage -- I figured it was time to upgrade my wireless network, even though I've been perfectly happy with my Linksys Wireless G router for the last year or two.
I chose this one because of the claims of 2.4 and 5ghz radio frequencies. Didn't realize that you can only use one at a time though.
When I first set up with a WPA2 key I could only get 54mbps laptop to router. A bit of research and I changed the encryption type from TKIP to AES and this brought me up to 130mpbs... Great I thought - not the advertised 300 but double what I was getting before.
Then the connection started fluctuating - 20mbps, 100, 5, 30, 0, 2, 130, 0, 20, 0, 25, 5, 0, 100 etc etc.
I tried hooking up my Xbox 360, which also worked perfectly with my old Linksys router and it was a pure lagfest, friends voices dropping, 30 second pauses before a keypress was recognized. To check that these problems weren't being caused by my Internet connection I switched back to my old Linksys and everything was back to normal.
Taking this back to the shop today. Save yourself the trouble and don't bring it home in the first place!"

What's great about it: Good Price What's not so great: Wouldn't Work properly
"I bought this router after reading other reviews. It was very easy to install and worked great and had great range for a day. Next day performance went away. Dropped connection was the norm, then loss of recognition to my computer. Reinstalled unit and it worked fine for a couple of hours, and then the same problems. My son, who is a computer tech, said it may have a conflict with my Cox service. I returned the unit and bought a Linksys and have had no problems since then."

What's great about it: Very fast internet connections/Networking What's not so great: No manual in box
"I decided to get this product because I bought a new desktop and wanted to upgrade to N technology from G for my new home network. My brand choice was between Netgear, D-LInk, and Linksys (store employee advised no Netgear). I ultimately chose D-Link beacuse the N router and N usb adapters (both dual band) were on sale $69.99 a piece. I couldn't be happier with the switch. I had a linksys G router before, and would experience 2-3 connection drops on my laptop per internet session, and would have to reset the router (unplug then plug back in) weekly. The speed was ok but I only had one laptop connected wirelessly as my old desktop was wired to the router. I have had no connection problems at all with this D-LInk. Set up was a liitle tricky because I kept getting the limited or no connectivety icon when i tried to connect to router. I read a lot of reviews that said skip installing the software included with the router and just download drivers from the manufactures' website. I found out (after downloading the user manual from the manufacters' website that the connectivity issues I was having was beacuse windows wizard was trying to make the wireless connection, and not configuring the router correctly. I decided to try disabling the windows wireless wizard, installed the D-Link software (Netmagic), and let D-Link's wireless wizard make the connection. The initial connection was a success. Using the downloaded manual, I then accessed my router's ip address, and manually changed a few settings on the router, which the manual will walk you through setting by setting. I then let Net magic configure my home network instead of windows. I looooooove Netmagic, and will purchase the pro version, as the version included in the router is a trial version. I was able to successfully network two desktops (using two usb N adapters 270mps), one laptop (using built in G adapter 54mps), and a wireless printer (built in G adapter). I was never able to get the printer to work with the Linksys wirelessly. The speeds of the connections are phenominal. The N adapter wireless connections are faster then my wired desktop connection was, and my laptop G connection is a lot faster now than with the Linksys G rourter. I'm serious, my internet windows pop right up. I can't tell I'm not wired. I will be adding to my Network my wife's mini netbook (HP-when she opens for X-mas), and my ps3 when I play it next. The key is to use the D-link connection wizard for the router, and then use the Netmagic wizard for the network (not widows on either.) My whole home is wireless now, and that was never my original goal, but the D-link was so fast and easy to set-up once I figured out to disable windows connection wizard that it was a no-brainer. I strongly recommend D-Link router and usb adapters (DIR-628 & SWA-160)."

What's great about it: Range What's not so great: Install
"Ultimately gave up on the install wizard but my configuration is probably not typical. Router to Router to computer. Have brick house and even on the patio still getting a full set of bars. Excellent range! Other router/dsl modem (Zoom) didn't make it out of the office . Once I ditched and uninstalled the wizard and went to manual setup everything was easy. Definitely need to enable the security so that the neighbors don't hijack the strong signal."

What's great about it: Excellent response time - when connected What's not so great: Router fails to maintain connectivity
"Bought the DIR-628 router on 11/26/08 to replace my D-Link WBR-2310. Between 11/26 and 11/30, my laptop lost WLAN connectivity 2-3 times each day. This is with the router in the very next room - approx 40 feet away. The message that appears is: "Limited or No Connectivity". But when connected, the router is fantastic!! As for installation, it couldn't be easier. BOTTOM LINE: Had I known I was going to have these connectivity issues, I would have bought another WBR-2310."

What's great about it: Great range decent price and 2 antennas!! What's not so great: No printed user manual!!!
"Great range, even a boost in reception for G adapters. I get almost full signal over 30ft and through 4 walls with this router. Recomend this to all looking for an upgrade. Very easy set up and configuration was a breeze. I only take a star from ease of use because there is no printed user manual.......only a PDF document on the CD-Rom. I prefer to sit in my living room and read manuals over having to scroll through a PDF document that is over 50 pages. Still worth purchasing this though. I had a linksys WRT160N that went out only after months of use (I attribute this to too much heat in their new design) before researcing and purchasing this."

What's great about it: Much simpler install than older versions What's not so great: Navigating thru admin software a little confusing at times
"Purchased this router to upgrade older DLINK DI 624 Wireless G Router. Wanted to take advantage of Wireless N for PC and Wireless A (recommended) for my XBOX 360. Needed a little more "oomph" for media center communications between PC and XBOX. Initial setup was a breeze. Router works fine with PC and XBOX 360 with media center extender (when will XBOX upgrade to wireless N?). PC is direct connected to router now to help with transmission rates with XBOX. Getting pretty good signal strength between XBOX and router thru a couple of walls. Only problems encountered when I upgraded firnware to latest release. Had to go into router software and reconfigure from factory defaults. Saved original configuration to file but could not find it to upload (probably my mistake). Navigating thru menus not quite intuitive, but figured it out and got everything properly set up. Latest firmware offers a lot of flexibility in configuring router, but for typical home user like me, a lot of things I don't really need."

"After two Netgear routers died on us within the past two years, we hunt for another solution. We got this Dual-band wireless N Router and we love it! Simple and easy, plug and play and the next thing we know we are cruising on the net! Excellent! No complain so far."

What's great about it: Easy set up under 2.4 ghz, secure, good software What's not so great: Pakaging unclear about dual band
"Everything set up fine under 2.4ghz... adapters 802.11 b/g/n. D-link is a good product. Runs a lot cooler then the Linksys. Now as for the 5ghz... only can use 802.11a/n. so since i have a Wii and one computer still using 802.11 g the 5ghz is of no good to me. Cause you can't use b or g with the 5ghz. Lost a star cause the box didn't relay the cards that could be used with each frequency. Replaced it with a Belkin N F5D8233-4 at half the price on sale, $39.99, and a few more minutes to manually set up the wireless adapters and there is no difference in internet speed which is what I cared about the most and am only going for draft N wireless router for the better range. g cards are cheap and more than enough speed for the internet. So unless you need or are going to use 5ghz you might want to get the D-link Dir-625 for easy set up or the Belkin F5D8233-4 for those on a budget and are patient."
