I am torn
01/06/2009
By RandyATLfrom Atlanta, GA
What's great about it: price, look of it What's not so great: dvd player
"I bought this product right after thanksgiving and it worked perfectly for 2 weeks. At that point it started giving issues, locking up etc. By the third week you coudlnt even load a disc in. When you would turn the player on it'd get stuck on "loading" even though there was no disc in and it would just stay there. Here's the real beef. I understand this is a new technology and machines are prompt to have issues but you call samsung and they are no help at all. Once it was obvious I needed to send it back to get fixed, it took them 8 days to send me a prepaid label, at that point I had already paid for the shipping myself because when you call them one person said 3 hrd, one person said 24 hrs, the last one said you are in the que not sure what else to tell you. I sent the machine on december 22nd. I am still waiting for the machine and I am praying when it comes back it works because let me tell you, you do NOT want to deal with samsung customer service. It is by far the worst i had even had to encountered."

What's great about it: Sound quality, Appearance, What's not so great: only 1 aux input, long loads( faster than my roomates though so maybe its a plus)
"I had the previous model from samsung before the blu-ray switch. And I must say the sound quality, and the speakers have been upgraded significantly. The speakers are shiny and HEAVY for their size so i would not recommend putting them on stands.(wall mounts maybe). I think many of the people who have bought this item have been somewhat misinformed. This is a Blue-ray Player and a Surround sound amp/reciever, not one or the other, if you want a whole bunch of boxes and remotes and every little option then buy seperatley obviously.
The only changes i've seen from my old samsung regular dvd setup is that the old sound edit option is no longer available uless you go in the menu on the screen,(used to be able to turn up and down sub from remote) That is really my biggest beef.
BLU-RAY issues: none, picture is great, no it's phenomenal, there are long load times but my friends sony blu-ray seems to have more problems then my samsung unit. It takes about 2-3 min to play a movie, previews and such start right up. I would imagine if/when this problem gets fixed samsung will release a software update.
appearance: Unless you look at it outside the box the picture does not give it justice, The blue-ray player is snazzy and matches my entertainment system incredibly.(not to mention the little blue light that comes on when a blu-ray disc is in.) The speakers are shiny and while not a coolest looking they "feel" much more sturdy than the other home theater in a box systems.
overall I would buy it again. and I paid 800$"

What's great about it: The Blue Ray Picture is awesome What's not so great: Super long time to load up the discs, at least 5 minutes per disc even after updating firmware
"I still think the Blue Ray technology still has a long way to go. Each blue ray disc takes too long to load. If I pause a dish in the middle of the movie, it only stays paused for 5 min, and then you are forced to restart the movie and find where you were in the movie by fast forwarding through the movie trying to locate where you were. I paid $599 for this on a Black Friday Deal. I would have been even more upset if paying more. The subwoofer is undersized. The player is oversized and barely fits inside my new entertainment center (20" deep). The speaker wiring has proprietary plugs that plug into the back of the player. I would have preferred the other type of plugs to be able to use a thicker gauge of wire to insure premium sound quality. I just feel Samsung could have put more effort into this overpriced player/theater system."

What's great about it: Great picture, regular DVD's are amazing. What's not so great: Trying to listen to a regular CD
"Only have had this system for about three weeks. I have it connected to a Sory Bravia LCD TV. W/ that said;
Pros: Picture quality is amazing. I have 20/13 vision and i really have to pay attention to see the difference b/w blu-ray and a regular DVD. Initial physical set up is beyond easy, ANYBODY could do it. Sound quality is adequate, for i am using this in my bedroon. I am very suprised on how well the supplied antena works w/ this system. Works better than my $50 electronic antena connected to my main receiver.
Cons: My only real beef w/ this system is trying to listen to a regular CD. When i insert a CD, the reciever reads "loading" and will not actually load unless i turn on my TV. Once the TV is on i can play a CD, but playback stops if i turn off the TV. After the TV is off i am able to play the CD, but playback starts from the begining. Other small issues include; the supplied wire for the rear speakers are too short. The display for the reciever is angled very porely, only able to read the displayif looking from above.
From what i have read, this system is more liked than it's Sony counterpart."

What's great about it: Set up was easy, Price was right, sound was great What's not so great: Regular DVD's play like claymation
"Great for playing selected blue-rays only. Wally looks great!!! but regular DVD's play as if they were done with stop action animation. I have tried to update the driver but it has not helped. Samsung has not been very responsive to the problem either. Two phone calls and two weeks later, still no help. UGH!"

What's great about it: Price, look and sound What's not so great: n/a
"I bought it thxgiving weekend and it works nicely. Really good sound, easy to install and it looks great. I want to make a comment about a previous review from Ddesforges413 from Fall River, MA. He said that the system doesnt have any inputs and he was disappointed he couldnt connect his xbox to the surround system, that's not accurate, if you read this I hope you figured out how to connect it because it'd be a shame to have this system and not enjoy your xbox or other devices through it. The system does not have any HDMI inputs yes but it has 2 optical audio inputs and a "red & white" audio connection. I used the optical audio (which supports Dolby TRUEHD and DTS HD, etc) for my HD DVR and HD DVD player, I connected my xbox thru the red and white stereo inputs and the system has a Dolby Prologic GAME feature which will create surround sound out of the stereo signal. I hope you read this and connect your xbox this way, sounds GREAT."

What's great about it: Built in Blue Ray player, easy to set up,very attractive glossy black, good sound What's not so great: be prepared to make some adjustments
"I bought this unit on Thanksgiving Day over the internet and got a good price $600 less $50 gift card. When I finished setting it up I inserted a CD AND AUTOMATICALLY my samsung lcd tv turned on. This is not good. If i turned off the tv the entire shut down. I CALLED SsA customer service and they instructed me to turn off the any net in the tv-noe big deal but you need to know this if you have this unt connected to a Samsung tv. sAMSUNF CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS GREAT AND VERY HELPFULL."

What's great about it: Great set for the price. What's not so great: No input options.
"Picked this up a few weeks back and haved loved it since. Had it unboxed and set up within 2 hours. Sound is amazing. My only complant with it is there is no option to input anything onto the surround. I was interested in hooking up my xbox to it and was upset to find out i couldnt. A error on my end for not paying attention while reading the spec. I can always go out and buy a reciever set up and put it in but for now this is still a great blu-ray player."

What's great about it: EVERYTHING What's not so great: NOTHING SO FAR
"I PURCHASED THIS UNIT ABOUT A MONTH AGO. VERY EASY SETUP AND WAS WATCHING MOVIES IN MINUTES.
THE UNIT IS CONNECTED TO A SAMSUNG 52 INCH LCD, SERIES 6 ,(LN52A650) AND YOU WOULD THINK YOU WERE IN AN IMAX THEATER. I HAVE IT SET-UP IN A ROOM THAT IS 22 FT X 27 FT AND THE 800 WATTS IS MORE THAN AMPLE FOR THAT SIZE ROOM.
FOR THE MONEY, YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS UNIT. ALSO, THE SAMSUNG LCD HDTV IS THE BEST ON THE MARKET. OVERALL BETTER THAN THEIR 7 OR 8 SERIES......PURCHASE BOTH AND YOU WILL BE IN MOVIE HEAVEN!"

What's great about it: Clarity What's not so great: Nothing so far.
"The Samsung Blue Ray DVD Home Theater System i bought on October 31. 2008. This is my first Blue Ray Dvd system, and me and my husband love it. The picture is so clear, black is black and sharp coloring. I recommend it to everyone who hasn't bought on yet. once you do, you won't go back to regular dvd players."
