WORST piece of electronics I ever bought

What's great about it: It works for a while
What's not so great: So many unacceptable things. Why is this all Best Buy has?
"1. 10 to 15 minutes to scan channels, and then they still come and go unexceptedly. No manual override - once a channel is not detected, you must go another 10 to 15 minutes setup.
2. Reception in and out all the time.
3. MINOR irritant compared to all else - the buttons will work backwards the 1st time - channel up is really channel down. Next time is right.
4. I'm none. Tonight the box is not working. The light is green - but there are NO outputs, neither by coax cable or s-outputs.
5. This is the only box available on the Best Buy website."

What's great about it: NOTHING!!!
What's not so great: EVERYTHING!!!
"DO NOT BUY FROM THIS MANUFACTURER!!! Their products are of VERY low quality and they make you pay them to fix the product even if you are still under warranty because their "1 year warranty" ONLY covers labor and not parts. If you read the other reviews you'll see that everyone agrees that this is a low quality product from a low quality manufacturer that does not ever stand behind their products."

What's great about it: Easy setup
What's not so great: Wrong functions for remote
"This piece of junk wants me want to never buy an APEX product again. The remote buttons put out completely random signals so that the box will not do what it's asked. Terribly frustrating to have to push the buttons 3 times to get it to do anything."

Affordable but clapped out after 8 months

What's great about it: Ease of installation.
What's not so great: Ceased working after 8mo, never worked well for those 8mo.
"This product was easy to hook up, but required auto-programming every few days. Remote sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. Occasionally, pressing any button on remote would be interpreted by box as "down channel." Even using the remote to our air conditioning unit or the remote to the television would be registered by the box as "down channel."
Seven or eight months after purchase, the box has ceased to function, emitting a barely audible whine when the power button on either the box itself or on the remote is pressed. I am very disappointed in this product."

What's not so great: remote is very flimsy and no way to change channels when remote breaks
"How often do you want to rush home to write a review that praises the customer service of a store? Well I just came from Best Buy in Secaucus and was almost dumbfounded with the speed of the service and the fairness. The remote of the converter stopped working, not really surprised it is so flimsey, so I went to BB to see what my options were. I was given a new one, no questions asked. Lets see what can I complain about........well maybe BB should not be selling this item. But it will be very difficult for me not to make my next electronics purchase at Best Buy the service was that good. Thanks Best Buy"

What's great about it: It was easy to hook up, affordable and functioned great for the first 6 months.
What's not so great: The box stopped working after 6 months, similar to other reviewers.
"I have several of these converter boxes in my laundries. They were easy to hook up and worked great. HOWEVER, the life span of the product is approx. 6 months. At that point, the boxes simply stopped working. I am hoping that the manufacturer will take the initiative to correct this problem. On the plus side, Best Buy was great to work with!!"

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Stopped working after six months
"My converter just stopped working about two weeks ago. I had been using it for 6 months (similar to other reviewers mentioned). I wonder if the 6-month period was built into this converter? Is so, Apex is definitely not a product I want to repeat or recommend to anyone. I'm looking elsewhere for another converter!"

What's great about it: Cheap
What's not so great: Stops working in short period of time
"I'm sitting in front of a snowy screen right now instead of watching the season 6 premier of Grey's Anatomy, my favorite program. The APEX digital converter simply stopped working. I'm fairly savvy when it comes to technology. I've read Internet reviews/suggestions and resorted to the favorite standby -- tried turning on/off the TV/converter box several times, switched video views, unplugged/replugged TV & converter box. I'm very unhappy with this product. I don't appreciate that we were forced to switch to digital TV. Analog was just fine. At least it worked. Thanks so much."

What's not so great: Breaks easily, no buttons on the box , menu print is too small
"Favorite feature allows for skipping channels.
But it requires the use of the remote for channel changing because there are no buttons on the box. And it broke within four months of owning it."

What's not so great: The remotes do not work very well, poor graphics, they do not last.
"I bought three of these boxes in July of '08 and did not use them until this year when every station went digital. They barely lasted two months, of course as soon as the warranty was expired so did two of them. I have one that still works and have had to replace two of them. What junk!!"

"Bought this the week of the DTV transition. Product worked kind of OK until two weeks ago. Now it doesn't detect my antenna so I get no stations. Also, even when it worked, a slow horizontal line would move from the bottom to the top of the screen repeatedly while unit was on, distorting the picture."

"I purchased this item a few months ago and have been having problems for a couple of weeks. When I turn the unit on it usually does not turn on for several minutes up to several hours(I forgot it was on once when we left the house when I came home it still had not signal and my TV and box had been on the whole time we were gone). If the unit does turn on then I get a green screen which usually locks up at which point I have to unplug the unit to get it to turn off b/c the power button is useless at this point.
Prior to the unit breaking it still was not a great unit.
1. The TV guide doesn't always work.
2. Remote must be pointed directly at the box to get a response.
3. Unit gets extremely hot.
4. Universal codes are not available so you must have 2 remotes.
5. No buttons on the converter box to adjust channel
I called customer service today to try and get help, what a joke that was. I was told repeatedly how sorry they were but it would cost me $30 to get it fixed, plus shipping, b/c I did not have my sales receipt. Even if I did have my sales receipt it needed to be with in 90 days or else I still had to pay for the repairs. This is the worst warranty for a electronics item I have ever heard of and the people on the phone were not helpful at all. I was however given the option of faxing them a letter of complaint if I wanted but was basically told they would not help me.
I have owned one other Apex item and it is my estimation that everything they make is a complete piece of junk as the DVD player also broke soon after purchase.
Whatever you do don't waste your money on apex items!"

"I have 3 converter boxes, 2 Zenith & 1 Apex. The Zenith boxes are great, I recommend those, but the Apex over heats after 10 minutes. Plus the menu has a blue background with very small writing, CAN'T READ IT.
Don't Waste your Money.
Does anyone know where I can find a Zenith?"

"Don't spend any money on this product (therefore maybe any Apex products). I have had three of these boxes just quit working ( you can not turn them on) shortly after their limited labor warranty expired. Shipping and labor charges would be more than this trash is worth. Buyer beware."

"It is ok. I like the box and the remote, but the menus and program guides are small. This would be better if it was $40, so it would be free with the coupon.
The Magnavox TB100MW9 has a much better on screen display for menus and program guides, especially the fact that the channel information pops up as you change channels (just like digital cable and dish do)."
