What's great about it: Long battery life, beautiful screen, connects via mini usb, SD card expantion slot, can play subscription music
What's not so great: name, short usb cord, only charges via usb, takes a while to sync, it's own software

[The Name]
Ok well I do like the name, but when your looking for accessories online you'll find many other things because of it's name. such as the zen v, zen v plus, the zen stone, the zen stone plus and other creative mp3 players. It's a bit annoying but I can live with it.
[Battery]
The battery life is wonderful, I didn't even charge it all the way and it lasted three times longer than my ipod nano (first gen). However I do dislike that it only charges via usb, that's probably the biggest thing that irks me about this player.
[Screen and player]
The screen is beautiful, with the ability to control how bright you want it to be. I normally keep it at 10% to keep the battery life longer. At 10% it is good when indoors but you may want to raise it to about <60% when your out doors. I put the Zen in my pocket with a pencil and pen for a few days of school and so far not one scratch on the player or the screen. Fingerprints are attracted to it like a magnet, but it's pretty durable for pocket use. I really wish it would be more like a psp, where you'll just drag and drop it but you'll need to use it's own softare.

Well videos are converted to wmv by it's software, and depending on the source of the file, it's pretty good.
[Music]
Well that's the name of the game, right? Music. Well like most mp3 players it's good, but with my 16 Gb player I have a good enough room for lossless music [also why I got it]. It has also the ability to create custom Eq as well as some preconfigured Eq.
[Microphone]
Well it's ok for a small thing. Didn't expect much from it, and it met my expectations. It's ok for something like a quick memo to one's self like, " Do homework at 5" or maybe " Get eggs butter and milk at the grocery store". Just don't expect much from it."

"this a reponse to kingleo45 screen problem all you have to do is hit the power button to the lock symbol and wait like 5secs and the screen goes black, so yes the screen well autoturn unlike you unlock the player again, but anyways this mp3 player is probably the best mp3 player to get at best buy if your looking for a small one, the SDHC card slots makes it easier to upgrade it from 4gb to up to what size you desire in a SDHC card. and navigation is easy, user friendly not hard to organize."

What's great about it: NICE SCREEN,LOUD AND HARDY SOUND.
What's not so great: YOU CAN'T SHUT THE SCREEN LIGHT OFF,IT ONLY JUST SLIGHTLY DIMS DOWN,AND THAT RUNS UP USEFUL BATTERY LIFE.

What's great about it: Easy to use, good features, great price
What's not so great: cannot change picture of cd cover
"I really cannot list cons about this item. My only problem is that when you add songs to the zen, you cannot add a cd cover to the zen. My husband bought a 120gb zune and he can change the cd cover (using the computer) but I cannot not. So you have a blank cd image on the zen. However the zen program is alot easier than the zune program."

What's great about it: Compact; FM Radio; Ease of use; SD slot
What's not so great: Nothing yet
"This is my first MP3 player. I received it as a gift and I am very pleased so far. I have downloaded songs and have learned how to use the various features even though no user manual comes with it. My husband has the iPod Touch and wishes that he had gotten something else. It serves its purpose very well for what I want to use if for - listening to music at work and the gym."

What's great about it: excellent picture quality, very good sound, regular sd card slot
What's not so great: sometime it hangs
"this is the best mp3 i saw, i love this bcoz of great sound, pictures are so sharp, and this is the only music player with standard sd card slot witz i lyk so much, you can use as many sd card you want not only thousand but millions of songs and it has so many great features i loved, the only thing i notice is that when you browse fast it hang, and you cannot hear the clock waking you up if you dont have the earbuds in your ear. but the bottom line this is the best for me and i like this than the ipod."

"this little mp3 player is one of the best out there. it has great sound quality and has a very bright and clear screen. the only down side is that the buttons get a little dusty but it doesn't matter. the only thing i recommend is that you buy the 8gb because movies are great to watch on it and they take up a lot of space. this little mp3 is the best. you need to get this along with a case that covers the screen and buttons. Its a great mp3 player."

What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: The cable that comes with it is REALLY short.
"This is simply an amazing mp3/video player! I love being able to view videos and pictures. It even has an FM radio.
The interface is very beautiful. It is very 3d looking. There are numerous features such as different effects for picture slideshows and the ability to set a custom picture as the background. One of the more important features in my opinion is the ability to change the brightness. This saves a lot of electricity and greatly extends the battery life.
It is extremely easy to use. I just took it out of the package, plugged it in, and started playing with it.
Linux users will be happy to know that it works really well with the program Gnomad 2.
The only bad thing about it is that the USB cable they give you for charging and data transfer is about 4" long."

"All in all, this would be the best choice if you're looking for a nice, cheap mp3 player. Only real problem is when it, at random moments, freezes up. Only thing to solve it is updating it. But unfortunately, Zen's aren't extremely popular, so it'd probably be a while... (sigh)
Also, it feels a bit plastic-y, but that doesn't matter."

What's great about it: Nice unit when it's not frozen
What's not so great: Freezes easily
"I purchased a CL Zen+ in March of '07. Websites abound saying that the unit will freeze up inexplicably so I went back to BB a week later and purchased the replacement plan for 12.99. I eventually learned to not use the little joystick to go back and forth or the unit WOULD predictably freeze up. Today, a year and a half later, I went to turn on the unit and it was frozen. Did the pin in the little hole thing to reset it, which I've done many times in the past, and it was still frozen which has not happened before. Tried two more times. Plugged in to usb cable and into computer and no change. The computer does not recognize it.
Found the paper work on the replacement plan, called the number, had a delightful customer service rep help me and am now on the way to a replacement gift card at the value of the original receipt. Amazing service.
The downside is that I have to reload everything from computer back onto a new unit. I also have to mail unit back (unless my local store will take it as a return) and then wait for gift card to come. This whole process could take 2 or more weeks.
I'm posting this so that Creative Lab customers know that this was a known problem 2 years ago and from reading these reviews it looks like the freezing up issue is still there, which is pretty appalling. We purchased a Samsung unit for DH at Father's Day in June of '07 because of the freezing up problem on my Zen player. He has a job that involves travel and I didn't want him to have to be inconvenienced by having to find a pin nearby to reset the unit when it froze up.
Bottom line - I gave it a 2 star rating instead of 1 because when it worked it did work well and I enjoyed it. I eventually learned to thwart fate by not using the joystick repeatedly or quickly. That cut down on the freeze ups. If you do purchase this unit then get the replacement plan as well."

"Creative is great at making products with cool features, you can search for songs by actually typing it in which is pretty cool, at first it works great but after a while you start to see the cons... I used it daily which may be the reason that it isn't still "alive" but it would be nice if it was more durable. The screen blanked out, the computer stopped recognizing it etc. Another factor to consider is the fact that apple finally caught a hint and has dropped its price by $50 dollars for the 8 Gb which made what originally would have seemed as a good ipod alternative, pretty sucky."
