I've got this Toshiba a few months ago.
Very good brand, nice style because it's black and shine. Hardware is good enough for big and small softwares. It comes with Vista Ultimate. No comments!!! Very good.
Toshiba is the best brand so far.
Go ahead and buy it!
What's great about it: Toshiba brand
What's not so great: Nothing

I use my computer for mainly typing and internet. No gaming. My previous laptop was a 7 year old 14.1" Fujitsu, which I love. It was my first laptop, and my soul mate computer, despite having come with 2 burned out pixels, but it was dying and way outdated. There are more ports on that computer than on this Toshiba.
The Toshiba
The feel of the keyboard is the most important feature for me. And at first it felt right. It is wonderful to type on with the right spacing but now I notice my fingers touch the top edge of the keys and they have a sharp edge. Maybe my hands just have to adjust to the new positioning. The wrist rest area is shorter than my previous laptop, so my hands don't rest the same. Also I wish the arrow keys were bigger.
The fan is on constantly, from the first moment I turned it on. That is irritating. Toshiba said that is normal because of the powerful processor in a small space. It's the low cooling fan noise, but I would like for there to be no fan until needed. That too is something I need to get used to. This is my first AMD processor computer - I had Intel on previous laptop and desktop. I was of the camp that Intel was better. I hope the AMD holds out. Not sure if fan has to do with AMD processor or ATI graphics or Vista Ultimate or smaller computer size.
I feel the battery life is okay - 2 1/2 hours or more on balanced option.
Not sure about the glossy keyboard. Sometimes I think it looks nice, sometimes I think it looks kind of cheap.
I sometimes wonder if the 14.1" would have been a better option. I do like the small, lightweight feel. It doesn't seem as sturdy as the Fujitsu. I hope it lasts a few years. It doesn't have options like bluetooth, wi-fi n, but price wise it's a good deal.
What's great about it: not sure
What's not so great: constant fan, keyboard, maybe too small
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is a great computer for travel, which I do a lot of. It is also great for Skype. I talk to my family in Europe regularly and it is fast enough to support the video and audio with no cutting in and out or freezing. I don't like the Windows Vista it comes loaded with. Otherwise it's perfect for me.
What's great about it: It's light, sleek and the web cam works great. I love the key board. The picture quality of the screen is really good
What's not so great: I wish it had come loaded with Windows XP instead of Vista. I also wish the battery lasted longer.

I felt like this was a good laptop for any college student on a budget, it is a great value for its price, it works well for school, but also has a good set up for entertainement.
What's great about it: Reliabe, realitivly inexpensive, good value
What's not so great: A little on the slower side, webcam gets in the way, DVD drives stops working

I've had this Toshiba U405 computer for 3 weeks and haven't had any problems. Boots in less than a minute. My software loaded without any glitches. Fantastic computer for the price - especially with Vista Ultimate. Follow the instructions (in the on-line manual) for draining and then charging the battery, and battery life for the supplied battery improves greatly. I am a dedicated Mac user but the price and features of this can't be beat! The 13.3" screen is bright, colorful and a perfect size for work or watching a movie. Take this computer anywhere and everywhere.
What's great about it: Small and light
What's not so great: None - so far

I bought this computer after comparing with a 14.1 Toshiba with Intel T5750 cpu. The intel kept dropping my wireless connection while this one did not even a single time. Everything works perfectly except when I used Skype to call, the sound was noisy and even Skype displayed a warning to take the PC farther away from the noise.
I returned it and replaced it with another Toshiba 14.1 with the AMD Ultra X2 ZM-80 processor which is a 2.1 compared to 2.0 of the 13.3. I tested the sound using Skype and it was very clear. I ran and tested other software and it worked flawlessly.
I am not sure if the 13.1 Toshiba was only a defect for that one computer but I don't want to try another and instead got the 14.1 which is more powerful and the sound was perfect.
I will recommend the 13.3 to a friend but will ask him to test the sound before anything else.
What's great about it: Fast and very portable
What's not so great: noisy sound from skype calls

So far this laptop seems to be a great value. It is small and lightweight, yet has power and was affordable. I had my previous toshiba laptop for 5 years without any issues so I decided on another. This laptop is primarily for my wife who wanted a 13inch screen or smaller. The Satellite U405D was a couple of hundred dollars less than comparable ones with 13inch screens. I was impressed that it came with Vista Ultimate which has a lot of cool features.
The only issue that I had is that the first one that I bought had a couple of pixles out on the screen. I brought it back to the store within the 14 day return policy and BestBuy quickly replaced it.
What's great about it: Lightweight, stylish, affordable, vista ultimate
What's not so great: Short battery life

I have only had this computer a day or so but I really enjoy it so far....its just as small as a macbook for almost half the price...its the first pc that I have seen at 13.3"...and the specs were good so I bought...I have had macbook, HP and Gateway and so far I am more pleased with this laptop than any other I have owned...the HP and Gateway don't really compare...the macbook does but its software is so hard to use and the price to me on one of those is really to much....this price is good and the product is great so far...more bang for your buck...go with Toshiba...
What's great about it: small, lightweight, smooth keyboard and mouse
What's not so great: gets a little hot...

Awesome little computer. I have several computers...Dell, Sony, HP and Mac. This was my first Toshiba laptop, and I am impressed. Small, lightweight, but the screen is big enough that I don't have to squint.
Fast, packed with features. Do the comparison at the store. This computer makes the other laptops look old, and stodgy, in my opinion.
I pulled my Toshiba out on the airplane the other day, and somebody said, "Wow! Nice laptop." The slick black piano key finish resists fingerprints, too.
Awesome.
What's great about it: Small, fast, good looking
What's not so great: AMD processor gets a little warm, but it has a great heat sink

I did love this computer till I got a blister on my thumb and my wrist was killing me. I have had four other lap tops so I am not new to lap tops. This one is designed where the thumb tab is bubbled and does not work with my hand.
What's not so great: nob for thumb

If you are looking for a good laptop full of features and great for travelling than this is your best choice. I have looked at most of the 14.1" and 13.3" laptops at the store and the others could not match the price or features of this laptop. Unfortunately as most computers available today you can only get it with Vista instead of XP. But I definately do not regret buying this especially at the $749 price I paid no other brand of laptop could match the weight, speed and features of this laptop. I did consider a black macbook but for $1499 I could buy 2 toshibas. Even at $949 it is still worth it.
What's great about it: Fast and lightweight
What's not so great: Vista

I was looking for a very compact laptop that was not missing anything. I haven't really used the camera yet, but I have tried it to make sure it works and it does. The battery life is amazing (obviously because it is new). The screen image is so good. I love it.

This laptop is the ideal laptop for a college student because it is very portable and visually pleasing. It is small so it does not strain any muscles in your back as you are walking to and from class (a plus for students!). The keyboard is a bit small and not alot of sound comes from the speakers because of its size, however, this is a great purchase for somebody who wants a light laptop that has wireless capability and a built-in webcam.
What's great about it: Lightweight, aesthically pleasing, great brand
What's not so great: Keyboard is a bit small, speakers could be better

I absolutely love my new toshiba. This little machine is much more powerful than I expected and I am able to play most of my games on it. This model comes with Vista Ultimate which makes the experience with Vista much better. The screen is amazing. The only drawbacks that I can see with this model is that the speakers are rather weak but perhaps this is to be expected with a smaller laptop.
Ultimately this is a compact, light, and very powerful piece of equipment.
What's great about it: Great features, Beautiful finish, powerful
What's not so great: Weak sound

I love the Toshiba experience, its a great machine for the price, its fast and comes fully loaded. I did however have trouble with the keyboard, it might have just been my unit, but one of my keys would just stop working and then dramatically recover. it was wierd, but Best Buy fixed it so its been great. Its easy to watch movies on, comes with features only toshiba provides, which is a fun experience. It really works great thought, it participates through all of my tedious tasks and I take it everywhere its been sturdy since my keyboard incident. I really love what Toshiba brings to technology and I would recommend it to anyone who is tired of having a laptop thats cliche.
What's great about it: Nice keyboard, great features, fast, doesnt run hot, unique features.
What's not so great: not as sturdy, you have to be careful its quite fragile.

The ultimate version is a lot less of evil than the home version as I have in my hp. Itself worth the money. I don't want to buy another XP pro or Ultimate. So far, it hasn't died on me. It has more control over the home as I bought all my old computers with XP pro. Others have said plenty good things about it. I am not going to repeat. But I do feel the screen's view angle is a bit inconvenience. It has to be tipped up a bit for me to view the crispy font, otherwise very fuzzy. I don't like the feeling of the touch pad, I'd like it smoother. The glossy finish is pro and con, looks nice but with finger prints everywhere.
What's great about it: Windows Ultimate, Design & Finish
What's not so great: Screen, Touch pad

I bought this in store on sale for $749, it was a great deal so I jumped on it. It would have been nice if it came with the label flash like most of the other toshibas do. The speakers are fair, it has controls on the computer for volume/mute/play/pause/ffwd/stop that are really nice. The whole computer feels very nice and smooth, Very bright screen compared to my older toshi. Haven't tried out the battery yet. Its also having a little trouble connecting to my wireless, but I had the same thing with my other toshiba and it soon got ... well I'd say acquainted with it over time. Keyboard is a little on the small side but I can see myself getting used to it.
What's great about it: bright screen, light weight, nice controls
What's not so great: none

After owning a series of laptops 14.1 in. screens and smaller, I really feel this combination is fantastic. The new AMD processor is smooth and powerful (if not still a little on the warm side) and outperforms the intel version in most ways. For those who want to game here and there on small l laptop, this is really a huge jump above intels media accelerator and the previous AMD/ATI combo. This will play Guild Wars, WoW, FEAR (I have tried them all) at near max graphics. You wont see this on any other little laptop without breaking the $1K barrier. For the money this is amazing.
What's great about it: AMD Processor greatly improved in battery life, GPU (graphics processor) heavily upgraded, great bang for buck size
What's not so great: Vista can be irritating, Keyboard feels a little cheap (homologous to the HP's)
I would recommend this to a friend!
