What's great about it: volume dial, media reader, 3GB RAM, design
What's not so great: Display a bit flimsy; only 3 USB ports

"If you want a laptop that is good for school, for home office, for Internet, other normal tasks, you can't get much better for the price. It has more than normal RAM (3GB), fairly large hard drive (200GB) and some bells and whistles (volume dial, web cam, microphone).
Laptop looks pretty nice as well; it's glossy on outside and inside. Easy-access controls on the front of the laptop.
If you want a laptop for serious gaming or graphics, this will probably not be for you as it only has integrated graphics.
Good laptop for average user."

"The only thing i dont like about this was i had to go to 4 stores in Northern Virginia to get this because there was such demand. But when i bought this Toshiba home, it made it well worth the hassle. The set up was quick and easy. The laptop has run without hassle or any signs of it. This laptop had a lot of value for the price i got it. I would tell anyone to buy this Toshiba."

"Wow, I got this amazing laptop yesterday and it works great. It was a birthday present, and I could not be more satisfied. $499.99? Yes, and I was amazed. You can go and buy a laptop for $999.99 and this one would prob end up better. You get a webcam (great picture), amazing display, and it is lightning fast. The battery life is okay, it lasts for a while. 3 GB for $500, I didn't think it was possible. But it is. GREAT BUY (even if I didn't buy it.)"

What's great about it: Low price($499), Web-cam, good hard-disk capacity and large enough ram memory for the price.
What's not so great: Touchpad feeling is awkward. You better test the touchpad before you buy it.

"I haven't opened the box yet, but I did go to a bestbuy store and tested the laptop.
The first thing surprised me as soon as I used the laptop was, I've never used such touchpad.
Rather than smooth touchpad, it was like rough touchpad, like you are touching some kind of a rock's surface.
You might feel difficulty in using the touchpad, if you are not the 'mouse' person.
So I strongly recommend you to pre-test it before you buy it.
Overall, all specs the laptop has seem great to me, especially for the price $499.
Web-cam, 200gb hard disk capacity, 3gb ram memory.
I've frequently been searching laptops and their prices, because I enjoy doing it, and I think this laptop might be the best laptop with good hardwares, and low price."

"My God! I just bought a Toshiba with AMD chip for $549, now just saw this beautiful Toshiba with Intel Dual Core for $499, couldn't resist but just bought it for my mom. Boy, it is amazingly fast for the money!!!! Extremely quiet for a laptop, excellent LCD screen resolution and true black background color, 200 GB hard drive, 3GB RAM memory, excellent sound quality and convenient volume control in the front; stunning absolutely stunning for the price. battery lasts as average, browsing internet lasts for about 2 hr 25 mins. If I watch movie on DVD, battery lasts for ab out 1 hr 43 mins. However, for the price of $499, what other laptop can beat this wonderful Toshiba. This is the third one that I have purchased, which is also a Toshiba. Absolutely no regret. Back-to-school top pick!!!! Or, excellent coming X'mas gifts for anybody you love."

"I purchased this product on 08/24/2008 via BestBuy.com at a great price. This is the first Toshiba laptop that I have owned, because I seemed to have always purchased Compaq or HP computers. "I had been looking at computers for a couple of months and had a relative recommend Toshiba. I was replacing a 9yr old cheap Compaq desktop that can barely run AOL 7.0.
I saw this computer on sale a couple of weeks ago and it was $549.99. That was a good price then and almost bought it. When I decided to finally get it, it was Sat. and the store was super busy. So I gave up waiting. It must of been a sign.
So I waited to find a computer that had everything I wanted at a price that I wanted. I was also looking at the 17" Dell Studio line.
So BB had a Dell on sale this week and went to check it out on Mon. (not so busy). Low and behold there was the Toshiba that I was going to buy. I asked the sales person if the price was right and he checked and said yes. YIPPPEEE!!!! It was only $449.99. I bought it right on the spot.
I LOVE it!!! First laptop I have ever had. My mom even commented on how fast it was. Now, remember I am just an average person with average expectation. So, I have no complaints.
I had Win. 98 before so Vista is great. No problems. Web cam is fun and cool."

Great Laptop for the Money 08/27/2008

"I will start off by saying that you absolutle y cannot beat this laptop for $449 at Best Buy (unadvertised special). Of course it isn't a gamers laptop, but then again, look at the price tag. It will more than adequately do anything the average person asks it to do and then probably a little more.

Another good thing is it comes with recovery CDs, so your hard drive isn't partioned off into a "D:" recovery drive. I like that. The face recognition is pretty cool, all possible because they throw in a webcam too.

My CD/DVD burner was not being recognized (missing or corrupt driver, code 39), but researched it and found it was 2 registry entries that were causing the problem. I deleted those two entries and the probelm was solved.

If you need extreme power - look elsewhere, but if you are an average person with average tasks, jump on this deal immediately."

Outstanding computer for the price! 08/25/2008

"By sheer coincidence I was on the BestBuy website after midnight on Saturday and saw this laptop on sale for $449 with in-store pickup. I had been looking at laptops during the day, and I really liked the look of this Toshiba. However, it wasn't on sale, and there were others with 3GB of RAM (one of my requirements) for cheaper. For some reason I didn't pull the trigger during the day, and I'm glad I didn't! I started setting up the computer yesterday, and I'm VERY impressed so far. Initial set-up took just a minute, and within another minute I was connected to the Internet via my wireless network. Five minutes later I was even sharing my network printer. This part was painless and fast. I had heard horror stories about Vista, but I found the set-up so far to be very easy (although I still have to look for things a bit more).

The computer boots up very quickly, and the screen is beautiful compared to the Dell that I use at work and the Compaq I also looked at in the same price range. The "bubbles" screen saver moves across the screen smoothly and quickly, not jumpy like some computers with video card memory or processor issues. The webcam resolution is just "ok", but considering the fact that it's built in I'm more than happy with it.

My main beef so far is the amount of Junkware installed on this machine. I know these license agreements help Toshiba and other manufacturer's make ends meet, but what a pain in the rear to remove all this stuff. There were probably 2 dozen icons on the desktop for trialware, offers, etc. that I wanted gone. About half were just links to a website that were easy to delete, but half required uninstalling the software (Sorry Quickbooks! Sorry Napster! Sorry Norton!) I still have some work to do here, but for the most part I've gotten all the junk off the machine and have installed more important things like a free, non-neutered AV program, etc.

Overall, this laptop is a heck of a deal. I see the price on-line has gone up $130 in less than 24 hours (was the price I paid a typo??), but you'd be doing yourself a favor to consider this machine even if it's not on sale. It's a solid performer, and it should be on your short list of consideration when shopping for laptops."

What's great about it: Great for surfing the internet, word, e-mail, & photos
What's not so great: Poor battery life

"This laptop is a solid basic offering from Toshiba. It'll do music & photos with relative ease, but if you want to do a lot of multitasking (i.e. editing photos while listening to music, or typing a word document while listening to music, etc) it may slow down a bit. In addition, the Pentium Dual Core processor featured in this laptop is a real battery hog, so don't expect more than 2 hrs of battery life in this laptop. The 3 gigs of memory make operating Windows Vista a smooth experience. A good laptop for a beginner, or a person looking not to do a whole lot on the computer."
