What's great about it: Has many features for all-around use. Great for presentations with S-video for projectors, TVs and external monitors.
What's not so great: Battery life is a little short. Finish is glossy and shows prints and smudges alot. The good far outweighs the bad.Yay!

"I use this laptop for some personal use, but use it mostly for internet access and mobile presentation use. It accesses Wi-Fi very easily and holds even weak signals well. I do one-on-one presents and group seminars with vdeo, internet, and powerpoint for groups of 10 to 100.
I travel throughout the upper and central midwest and carry, pack and bang this computer around to 3 or 4 different locations every week for the last 6 months. It has not faltered at all. One thing that I have noticed about Toshibas is that they are built like a tank, yet still are light, fluffy and convenient to use. This laptop is GREAT!!! I am online now to set up an order for 2 or 3 more for the rest of my crew. I HIGHLY recommend it!"

What's great about it: Good price (especially when it's on sale), sleek design, nice screen, front SD card slot, webcam.
What's not so great: Short battery life, gets dirty too easily, Windows Vista, Windows Vista and oh yes!...Windows Vista

"This is a good laptop, but it suffers from a lot of problems that can be summed up in 2 words...Windows Vista.
Setting that aside for a moment, I'll tell you what's good about this computer.
The design is nice and sleek, the screen is large and vibrant and the value for what you get is great (includes a DVD burner, built-in webcam and an SD card slot up front so you can upload your pictures from your digital camera without having to bother with plugging it into a USB port or a docking staion!).
What's bad:
Well, it's really not the computer's fault, but it does use Windows Vista as an operating system. Now I'm no computer expert, but like everyone else ages 15 to 35, I can make my way around the average PC with little effort. When I bought this computer and proceeded to transfer all the old files and programs from my desktop computer, it was an excercise in extreme frustration. Nothing works like you think it would and even trying to perrform simple tasks is completely confusing. Eventually I had to ask my best friend (who is an IT person for his work) to come over and work on this. It took him 6 1/2 hours to get just Microsoft Money, Word and a couple of small databases ported over!
It's been 3 weeks since we got this laptop and my wife and I are still befuddled. I don't understand why Microsoft would release a new OS that was so confusing and hard to use for the basic operator.
Again, everything on this computer is great...except for Windows Vista. If you are familiar with Vista or are confident enough in your computer skills to dare give it a try, than I recommend this computer for you. Otherwise, I'm afraid I have to give it a big "thumbs down" for the average user."

What's great about it: fast, decent speakers, light weight and small, crisp display, built in web cam, built in wi-fi
What's not so great: doesn't handle games very well

"I bought this computer for school, and I must say, it is definitely the best value you can find. It's one of the cheaper lap tops out there, and it has just about everything I need. Actually, everything I need. Sometimes its a bit sluggish recognizing my mouse thats connected through the usb port after its been in sleep mode, but other than that, there aren't really any problems with it. I play online videogames, and sometimes it freezes up, but that could easily be my internet connection. This is a great lap top, and if you're lookin for something inexpensive yet reliable, this is the one. Definitely an impressive computer for the money."

"I needed a smaller computer to take back and forth to work and I take the bus.I already own a 17" Toshiba labtop that I got last year for home/gaming.But it is way too big to commute with.This one is excellent for internet browsing,watching television shows via the internet,live MLB games are crystal clear,depending on your connection.Excellent choice for a second "commuter-laptop or for a college student.Keep in mind because of it's "fusion finish" or glossy finish.Fingerprints and smudge are like magnets to the keyboard."

What's great about it: light weight, good quality, great price for this quality
What's not so great: could use a longer life battery

"The sound quality of the built in speakers are good for a laptop, better quality if esternal speakers are used. All controls are in easy to use places. Keyboard is very quiet (really like this). Keys are good size not too small. Has 4 USB ports, some laptops have only 2 or 3. Battery power indicator lights up on front to show when on battery or charging. Very good CD/DVD reader/writer. Excellent screen resolution. Am very pleased with this laptop. Have recommended Toshiba Laptops to others."

Great Deal For A Student 09/15/2008

What's great about it: Lots of Memory for music and dealing with Vista

"I have had this computer for a couple of weeks now and everything is going great. Its handeling my music downloads and keeping up with my papers very well. When I first got the computer I was slightly thrown off by the hibernation setting which kept causing my computer to randomly hibernate but a member of the geek squad helped me turn it off.
I paid twice as much for a HP two years ago with similar features and I am definately enjoying this one more. All in all, as a broke college student, for the price, I could not have asked for more"

"Shopping online for a laptop is pretty tough business, i mean i know nearly nothing about computers myself. I read up on a bunch of stuff and before i knew it, it came down to the prestigious Sony VAIO and some sort of Dell. Well, long story short i was reading up on some of the prestigious laptops and i stumbled across this Toshiba. I thought, well this couldn't be as good but lets compare what i'm buying here.

BOY! was i wrong! i was reading the specs on this thing and i was sold! and the price!!! what a great buy. When it came in the mail, the packaging was a little under par but the laptop itself was excellent. Much more efficient and faster than my previous models of Dell and an HP, which overheated quickly and had a battery life of 15 minutes. this toshiba laptop is by far the best laptop i've ever had or used. It's a little heavy to carry around all day but hey, it's still a great buy for a great price!"

What's great about it: Very Fast, Great Display, Built-in Web Cam, Touch Buttons
What's not so great: A few minor things that can be easily fixed (such as fingerprints).

"I usually don't write reviews, but I depend on them a lot before making big purchases, so I thought I'd contribute. I've had many, many computers in my day, and after having some successes and some failures, I looked online and did homework on the best laptop for a smaller amount of money. After doing much research on this website, this Toshiba laptop was NOT anywhere near the top of my list.

Finally, I went to Best Buy to purchase the Vaio that I originally wanted. While waiting for a Sale's Rep to help me, I had a customer in the store personally take me aside to tell me how she bought this Toshiba and how it was a great purchase. I didn't listen, and when I got a Sale's Rep to help me, I made him take me to look at the Sony Vaios. I was ready to purchase one, but the model I could afford was out of stock, so I annoyingly asked, "Is the Toshiba any good?", and the Sales Rep informed me that the Toshiba was actually better than the Vaio I originally picked out AND a more expensive model. Everyone in the store praising this laptop made me reconsider and take my chances on the "cheap" computer... and let me say I am SO glad I got this laptop!

I have had no problems whatsoever so far. The first great thing about this laptop is the price, and then the nice design. This laptop boots up nice and quick and has a great display, and the web cam is a wonderful feature! This laptop has been nothing but wonderful since I've purchased it, and I'm actually embarassed to admit that I considered this laptop to be "cheap". I'd never say that this laptop was "great for the money," because this laptop is great, period.

If I absolutely HAD to complain about something, I'd complain that this laptop seems to attract fingerprints easily, which a few people have mentioned. It can get a little annoying, but you are given a cloth along with your user manuals and the like to gently rub the fingerprints away. I really don't mind wiping my computer off after each use, it makes it look and seem new that way, anyway. Another thing is that when I tried the web cam, I was very disappointed with the bad quality... until I opened the Properties menu and tweaked the settings, now the web cam looks very crisp and clear and high quality!

This is the smartest purchase I have made in a long time and am very happy that I actually went against the bad reviews. If you ask me, having to wipe off a few fingerprints with an included cloth is a small price to pay for such a great laptop at a GREAT value."
