What's great about it: 7.1 Analog out, DTS HD-MA/Dolby TrueHD decoding, HQV chip, Netlix HD, Pandora, Blu-Ray playback, auto firmware updates
What's not so great: Nothing

"This player was easy to set-up. Just plug it in, including the ethernet connection, and it updates the firmware. Very easy menu to set-up preferences, like TV and sound options. The netflix and pandora streaming are great. To get the best Netlix picture, you must have a high-speed connection (6mb or higher.) With a recent firmware update, it now can decode DTS-HD MA on the player. The fact it wan't on it when I purchased it was a big concern, but I had read in a forum that it would be coming soon through a firmware update. The main reason, of course, you by it is for the blu-ray playback. It is incredible! Dark Night on blu-ray is absolutely stunning, especially the IMAZ scenes. The one negative that I had read about Samsung BR players was the compatability issues with new discs as they are released. I have yet to experience the issue, and Samsung seems to send a firmware update once a month to prevent it from happening. The HQV chip does a great job of up-converting DVD's to 1080p. HQV chips are generally found only in high-end electronics, such as Denon and expensive projectors. With all of the features on this unit, you can't find a better player for the price. If you are in the market for a BR player, this is the one to get!"

What's great about it: Netflix and Pandora, good price, internal decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio
What's not so great: Some units have a loud fan - simply exchange it if you run into this issue.

"This player has a fantastic set of features that I don't think any other player on the market currently boasts:

HQV Reon Upconversion
7.1 Analog Outs
BD Live 2.0
On Board Decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio
1 GB Internal Flash with USB Flash Expansion
Ethernet Connection
Netflix HD Streaming
Pandora Music Streaming"

What's great about it: N/A (didn't work)
What's not so great: Required firmware updates before movies can be seen.

"I gave this item 3 stars because it did not work properly, so I can only evaluate based on what I was able to use. After I set up my blu ray player I was very excited to watch a movie. However this player requires firmware updates before you can view anything. The firmware disc it came with did not work. The other options were to hook it up to your computer, with a USB cable, which I did not have. Download the firmware from samsung.com, burn it on a recordable disc--which I did not have-- and upload it to your player. The third option was to use the internet connection on the back of the player, but I did not have internet hook up in my bedroom. If you want Samsung to send you a new disc it takes about 7-10 business days. The initial set up was very easy--which is one positive that I do have about this product. I wound up returning it for the Sony BDP-S550. While the Sony has a firmware update feature, it was not required for initial set up. Prior to this I had a Sony DVD player and was always satisfied with Sony products. For the same price I would recommend the Sony BDP-S550. It is also smaller than the Samsung."

What's great about it: Picture, Picture, and Pandora....
What's not so great: Netflix, response time to remote, no wireless connection....

"I will start with the good:
Picture is excellent!
Pandora I found myself using all the time.

The Bad:
The response time to the remote lags. I could live with it though.
Would have been nice (for the price) to have a wireless connection to take advantage of BD Live.
But here's the big no sale for me. Netflix worked for me in the begging but then it stopped. I called Netflix and they said that I need to talk to Samsung. Samsung said that I need to talk to Netflix. Needless to say they are not communicating between them. The issue never got resolved and so I returned the unit. For the price I expected more. The service is not there for this piece of High Tech equipment.

I will say that Best Buy was great with the return.
I ended up getting a PlayStation 3 even though I am not into games, but in addition to a blu-ray player (made by biggest influencer of 1080p), I get windows media from my computer, streaming video, wifi, access to the internet, and so on.....(and hopefully Netflix streaming in the future, but for now I am going to buy roku.)

My final word is that it is a great player, but for the price you are over paying. You have many other options and the Playstation 3 is one of the best for the money, and my intention is not to play games, but just as a media center and blu-ray player."

What's great about it: video processing, deep color, multimedia connectivity (pandora and netflix)
What's not so great: network setup not that intuituve, a bit slow, remote slow

"Originally got a 1500, but realized later on that I would need netflix and upscaler support (HQV). and I brought back the 1500 to swap for the 2550 . Also discovered Pandora as a smart radio service.
I didn't try yet the upscaler from regular DVD yet but I read it should be good.

both on the 1500 and the 2550, the User Interface is not the most intuitive, especially the network configuration page is capricious (even though, it acquired IP address via DHCP, it doesn't display it)

Picture quality of netflix streaming movies is decent, but it is far from the actual blu-ray disk. you are comparing 6Mbit/s versus 34Mbit/s, so it is not a fair fight for the streaming movie.

Here is my quick advise though.
I challenge any one to see any picture quality difference in blu-ray mode between the 1500 and the 2550, they are both exceptional.

if you only play blu-ray discs (and not standard DVD), if you don't care for the 7+1 down mix, if you don't care for netflix and pandora, you'll be perfectly fine with the basic 1500.

Samsung is definitely a strong player those days...."

What's great about it: Picture Quality and 1080p upconversion
What's not so great: Nothing so far

"I purchased this Samsung Blue-Ray player after reading the reviews. I probably could have gotten by with a cheaper unit. I cannot do the Pandora or Neflix due to only having dial up. But because I have a Samsung LCD I decided to stick with the quality I know.
I do prefer full screen viewing when possible. I set up the player for full screeen and was a little disappointed when the movie played in the wide format. Mayabe that was the only format available. I did watch Batman and noticed how it went from full screen to wide screeen.
The sound is awesome I only have a 5.1 channell surround system, but it sounded great.
Overall I would recommend this player. Just wish I could take advantage of the Netflix feature. That is what I get for living in the country."

What's great about it: Picture Quality, Netflix, Pandora
What's not so great: None so far

"I absolutely love this Blu-Ray player. I was looking for a decent Samsung BD player (already own a Samsung HDTV) when I came across this one. The fact that is also has Netflix and Pandora was a definite hook. Between Netflix, the DVDs that I already own (which this player upconverts very nicely) and the BDs that I will be getting, I can probably eliminate a lot of the premium cable channels and save a little bit of money. So far, I have used the Pandora feature, the Netflix feature and watched The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray last night. A-Maz-Ing!! This is definitely a good all around player. Have not experienced any of the audio drop-outs that others have described (just got a new receiver too, so that might be helping). Firmware update was easy to do, but took a little while (basicalyy on par with download time on a computer)."

What's great about it: Easy set up, interaction with other Samsung products ( LN52A640 TV), Netflix interactivity, display settings
What's not so great: A little slow to load, but this is my first blu ray player, so that may be standard?

"Took back the 2500 model to the rival red store in favor of the 2550 model exclusive to BB. What a great product - chosen for the Netflix option, and interaction with my Samsung TV, this was easy to set up, easier to learn how to use, and a spectacular picture. Plug and play, easily downloaded and installed the updates, and have streamed several movies in the first few days, with NO glitches, and great picture. Watched one movie on Blu Ray, great pic, nice options, display, etc. a little slow to load, not sure if that is normal with BR or not. Overall, great product, interoperability with other Samsung products, and happy with the product overall."

What's great about it: Excellent picture quality, auto-linkup with Samsung LCD TV
What's not so great: Intermittent operation (freezing)

"Easy setup and use. Excellent picture quality and sound on Blu-ray (playing on a Samsung 52" LCD, 1080p with 120 hz refresh). Auto-recognized by the TV since they were same-brand which made DVD startup very simple. Started to experience freezing which would correct after a restart. The last day it worked the player would not recognize a standard DVD, then it would not go past "Load" even after multiple restarts/unplugging. Returned it and am going to try a Panasonic DMP-BD35K."

What's great about it: NetFlix & Pandora features are super add-ons.
What's not so great: Limited playback of older CD/DVD formats

"This a super Blu-Ray player. Very easy to navigate menu system. Internet firmware updates when connected, or USB update, for upgradability. NetFlix and Pandora features through the player gives it a flexibility beyond just blu-ray.

Negatives: Plays only the most common older DVD and CD formats."

What's great about it: Easy to setup, good price on sale, Great picture and sound, easy firmware update
What's not so great: Remote is bad, price could be lower, deserve better ratings

"After reading the reviews on Cnet and other websites, I found this system to be a better system to have than the LG for Netflix. I have the Roku System and it's great, but I wanted to have blueray and this system gives you two in one. The picture is fanstatic and the sound is out of this world. The setup was difficult because the remote came with dead batteries. But, overall the system if great. As for netflix the picture is great and the Pandora music is wonderful. I have a Samsung 120mhz 46'LCD and I thought the picture couldn't get better, wrong, now it even better than ever. The picture and sound has blown me out of the water. I used the Netgear network plugin with this system and the transmission is great and easy to setup. Buy this first and save yourself time and money."

What's great about it: Picture quality, looks.

"I believe this is just a Samsung BD-P1500 with built in-internal memory of 1GB to support BD Live. The 1500 requires a USB memory dongle of 1gb or more plugged in for Blu ray Live support. So price accordingly, you can get a 1gb usb for under ten bucks."

What's great about it: Very little, picture quality will not disappoint
What's not so great: User interface, setup, network accessibility, etc.

"The Samsung BD-P2550 is an unmitigated disappointment. The user interface is agonizingly slow. The network setup feature doesn't work and there are no diagnostics or troubleshooting tips. The manual is useless.

I own and love my Samsung plasma TV, flat-panel computer monitors, and even the washer and dryer. But this Blu-ray player is just simply bad. If this is the state of Blu-ray technology, then wait at least two years. I have to believe there are better machines out there."
