What's great about it: Looks great, works fast, works well when it works
What's not so great: Doesn't have software for XP games, likes blue screens of death
We bought this computer this summer and it's great, except for not working well with non-Vista games. We spent a couple of hours at Best Buy and the technician got everything to work (THANKS!!!) but now, after loading Oblivion and it's addons, it got blue screen of death errors and the ASUS tech support said we had to restore it to original condition so now we have to redownload and reinstall EVERYTHING. We are sad. Also the lid has cool-looking blinking lights that annoy everyone but the user, but they can be turned off. Also the CD randomly appears and disappears in the My Computer list. Strange.

What's great about it: 512mb nVidia Graphics, 4gb RAM, 2xHDDs
What's not so great: Display could have been higher resolution, no bluetooth, backlit keyboard would have been nice.
I was very suprised when I saw this machine in my local Best Buy. After seeing the specs I was prettyimpressed for what this machine had for the money. My wife and I tried gaming laptops a few years ago with little success. When I saw this model it had the best of everything for the money.
This machine has a very solid contrustion and lots of nice little details. Here are a few examples:
Main features:
* Solid graphics performance (can run Vanguard, Spore, and UT3 at Max settings)
* Two hard drive bays is very nice. Even with the two 100gb HDDs included it's very cost effective if you want more space to upgrade.
* Plenty of USB ports, eSata port, and other nice extras.
* Vista 64bit Home Premium
* Full Numpad
Nice extras:
* OLED readout above the keyboard is a nice touch
* Touch sensative buttons also a nice touch
* Multimedia suite that can be used w/o booting to OS for video, music, and web surfing
* Lightscribe drive
* Very nice cable warp and cleaning cloth included
In short if you're looking for a great gaming computer without breaking the bank this is a great choice. It is naturally not as powerful as desktop machines, but for a machine on the go it has a lot of great features for most gamers.

What's great about it: Great video card, 4 gigs of RAM
What's not so great: none
So, I did a lot of research looking for a gaming laptop that didnt cost $3,000. There is another laptop made by ASUS that has better specs than this, ie faster processor and a better display, but it is not available at Best Buy. I've been impressed with the performance when gaming though the screen resolution makes playing in windowed mode a bit odd. Playing Warhammer online and WoW, I entered PVP or RvR areas with no lag what-so-ever.
It should be noted that this machine comes with 2 hard drives, which is not stated in the specs. Dividing 200 Gigs of hard drive space out makes for 2 not very big drives, especially when Vista takes up sooo much space on the first drive. If you store a lot of music and videos, you may want to take this into consideration.
Overall, this laptop meets my needs very well, is quiet and remained relatively cool through several hours of gaming.

What's great about it: VERY high end components, extremely fast, very nice screen
What's not so great: weird screen resolution, but that isnt that big of a con, ok battery life
at first i got the gateway p-7811FX but returned it because it over heated EVER TIME i played a game. so i got this laptop. that was the best idea of my life. it is pretty portable weighing about 6.25 pounds. a 200 gig hd is good for games to music. i play ever game on very high (which includes crysis, blacksite area 51, and COD4. i would highly recommend it for anybody who loves games and want a cheap gaming laptop. do yourself a favor and get this laptop!

What's great about it: 9700m, Solid Construction, Best Notebook Shell Design I've seen
What's not so great: Lousy Display
I loved this laptop. The "feel" of the laptop during use was incredible. it just felt like a solid, stable machine. Its very quiet, and I didnt have any unreasonable heat issues. However, the display simply lacks. If you're not viewing dead on and its at even the slightest angle, you will not see a clear picture. I returned this and bought the Gateway FX P-7811 instead.
I was truly disappointed that this great laptop was given such a poor display. Had it not been for the viewing angle on this display, I would have kept it.

What's great about it: Display, price, memory, video card
This is my first laptop ever. And by that i'm Very Happy with my choice. I bought it for 1 main thing and that was gaming.
I bought it so i can it on the road play games. It holds so far CoH, Dawn of war n the Newest Game Warhammer with Ease. All of the Games have better graphics then i thought they would have..
On the Vista side i am a Xp user my Desktop has it..and Vista for me is easy and its not as hard as everyone says...i noticed the Norton that the Laptop comes with gave me more problems askin about installin and stuff but thats basic stuff...people said it was vista its not.. For my first time using Vista it felt like i knew what i was doing from the jump start.
I have told alot my friends about this laptop and the price is awesome and worth it..and i Sugguest Any gamer out there that wants to take gamin on the Run and out of their house this laptop is where it is..i personally like the 15.6 screen..i actually thought bigger screen would be better..but really smaller screen makes it easy to travel with and etc.
The Battery life is like any other laptop it does drain but you switch to threw modes..
I also like they have full keyboad and then they have the Num pad on it makes life much easier.
The Blue lights on top and mouse pad give that look of Don't mess with me lol.

What's great about it: great graphics/display, lots of storage space
What's not so great: could be alittle faster, bluetooth would be nice
This is a great laptop for gaming especially if you don't have thousands to spend. ASUS makes a good computer. Its got a good video card, nice display,so far plenty of hard drive space, and it looks pretty awesome. No real complaints except bluetooth would be nice for more wireless connectivity, and i wish it had a bit faster processor. But no regrets on the purchase.

What's great about it: Fast, Great Display, Awesome Video card, Uses all 64 GB of memory.
What's not so great: Have to install a minor amount of junk software. No much compared to others.
I got this notebook for school and to play battlefield 2142 on. The game plays so awewome on this notebook! There is a model that is one up from this but bestbuy does not carry it. I like the fact that is has Vista 64 on it and is maxed out on memory. All the mentioned Pros and the 7200 rpm spin rate on the hard drive make this baby perform like a desktop.

What's great about it: specs
What's not so great: resolution, battery life and the dvd rw drive is LOUD
i got this a few days ago, i was very impressed at first....it is really fast with the 4 gigs of ram, everything but crysis runs great and no problems related to 64 bit os so far. the resolution is kind of a bummer, but i have a good gaming pc so its not a deal breaker for me.
two things i dont like are the very short battery and how loud the dvd drive is, i had to return one it was so loud, it was similar to the sound of 5 year old hair clippers that had never been cleaned or oiled. the one i got now isnt nearly as bad, although still loud at times.
this is pretty much a desktop replacement in a nice small package that is very affordable compared to its market competitors. i would recommend this to anybody who had the cash to afford it if they wanted to play games on a laptop. all my complaints are just minor annoyances to me and do not impede my overall satisfaction with this product.
i didnt expect this thing to wrangle with crysis and it wont on high settings with a good framerate, but thats why i have my game rig, but this thing demolishes bioshock and f.e.a.r. and handles warhammer online admirably, which isnt easy.

What's not so great: Battery life is short
This is a great buy. I'm using it now to type this review. It is very fast and has amazing graphics. The widescreen display with a built in camera and mic are also pros. It has about an hour long battery life which could be troublesome but it is well worth it.

What's great about it: Processor Speed, 4Gb RAM, NVIDIA 9700GT, 64bit Vista, ease of upgrade
What's not so great: None
I have owned 4 laptops over the past few years, and this is by far the best I have ever owned. My previous laptops were a Compaq (before the HP buyout), a Dell, and a Gateway. This Asus packs is the best value of any laptop I've purchased hands down, and the laptop is very high quality, no flimsy feeling parts or lackluster assembly here. Asus builds quality products, and their service and support is top notch. Their support website includes all the latest driver and software updates, along with downloadable manuals in case you lose the one that came with the laptop.
The screen is bright and sharp, I've had no issues with the native screen resolution of 1366x768, and many of my games support the resolution so I've had no issues with distorted or fuzzy low resolution graphics.
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor handles everything I throw at it with no slowdown or stuttering, and even when running demanding games (Team Fortress 2, Oblivion, Sins of a Solar Empire) the computer stays pretty cool. The 4Gb of RAM definitely help it to keep up with everything I'm running, and since it comes with 64bit Vista I can eventually upgrade to 8Gb!
The 200Gb hard drive is fast at 7200rpm, but about average for storage capacity compared to most laptops. But wait! Asus was kind enough to include a second hard drive bay, so when you start getting low on space, you can throw in a second hard drive and greatly increase your capacity!
The NVIDIA 9700M GT has its own 512Mb of dedicated DDR3 RAM, and is Directx 10 compatible so any game you run on this laptop will look awesome! Don't worry about the native resolution "ruining" the graphics, the resolution is only low if you compare it to a high end desktop. The resolution is fine and will actually allow you to max out more graphics settings (AA, Anisotropic filtering, textures, shadows, etc) while still maintaining a higher framerate.
On top of all these great capabilities, the laptop is also incredibly light for its size, includes a full keyboard with numberpad, has an extra LCD screen for status indicators and messages, and looks really sweet with it's black piano finish and orange accent colors. If you're looking for a new gaming laptop to take on trips, or even a desktop replacement that you can easily move around, pick this thing up!

What's great about it: Powerful, doesn't overheat
What's not so great: Short battery life, massive dead insect in packaging
I opened the box when I got home and a massive dead insect was inside, but as soon as I powered it up I realized it was worth it. It has a retro-80's design to it, but I bought it for its video card and processor speed. I took the laptop with me to school, and complete strangers were walking up to me telling me how cool it looks..I'm not fond of orange and the flashing lights on the case but hey, it's what's inside that matters.
I bought this for school and to also play MMORPG's in my spare time, and have been installing WoW on it for 4 hours now (you know how those patch downloads go), and it has yet to overheat. Be careful though to always have an outlet nearby, because the battery life is really short.
The graphics are amazing! And it is really fast. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. I'm pretty picky when it comes to computers, but this was definitely worth it.

What's great about it: CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, ECT.
What's not so great: LCD Resolution
I have been waiting for years for a company to develop a high-end budget gaming notebook in the 15" form-factor! Asus got this one right on the money. For $1,250.00 you cannot go wrong! The Dell XPS line with similar specs would easily cost you over $2,500.00 and it would have to be a 17" desktop replacement. Even the aesthetics of this laptop are phenomenal! It has a very nice gloss finish with blue led accents & a gorgeous LCD Panel to display CPU usage, Memory Usage, Ect. The Asus power management software works like a charm enabling easy switching between performance & battery saving.
Right from the moment you open the box you will not be disappointed! BestBuy does not even have this thing on the show-room floor...I personally think it is a good thing because they would not keep them in-stock if they did. If you are looking for a mid-size, yet still portable laptop that is very capable of gaming; head over to BestBuy and pick this up. You will not be sorry you did.
