In love with blu-ray

What's great about it: Good quality
What's not so great: Slow load time
"I was the type of person who really didn't think that HD mattered, well it does. I was blown away by the picture quality of Blu-Ray. This player also bumps up the quality of DVD which is cool. The one draw back is that it loads very slowly."

What's great about it: Exceptional picture. Upconvert from standard DVD is GREAT!
What's not so great: no forward or reverse slow motion. Slow startup
"I have this BD player as well as the newer 500 model. Both have the clearest 1080p picture I've ever seen and upconvert, I was very surprized at how much better the picture was than on my pervious sony upconvert players. Very close to 1080p. I was also surprized to find that neither player has slowmo function which I consider an important option. The startup time on both are very slow but even slower on the newer 500 model. I assume this is because it is processing the bulk of the 14 gigs of data on the Blu Ray disk before it can initialize. this is about a 30 to 90 second wait period. Annoying. I am hoping the upcoming firmware updates will correct these deficiencies. Although the price is coming down i still think the Blu Ray players are overpriced. You can catch the media on sale at decent prices but otherwise its overpriced too. Bottom line, I have two high end Sony 1080p HDTV's and I'm able to experience the full viewing experience they're designed for with the most awesome crystal clear picture beyond imagination so I will endure the shortcomings of these players."

What's great about it: unreal picture + sound easy set-up worth every pennie
What's not so great: nothing
"Purchased by blu ray abount 5 weeks ago. Let me say this WOW , WOW and WOW. Easy set up from install the wires to the set up menu. Maybe took 25 minutes. The picture is superb, the upconvert give new life and meaning to standard dvds. No wonder everything is going blu-ray. If you really want true hi-def in all its glory get a bravia hd tv , digital hi def cable or satalite, and a sony blu-ray. Sound and picture the way it is meant to be. Blu-ray is to video what cds where to music."

What's great about it: Works great out of the box
What's not so great: would be nice to have multi-channel analog outputs
"I was awaiting the S-550 for the analog outputs capability but decided on the 350 when the price was reduced to $299. I can get along fine with the hd audio outputs available via HDMI .
The video and audio from bluray disks are excellent and the upconversion of dvd is also very good.
The startup and load times are acceptable to me even without using the standby power mode.
So far, so good. The S-350 fits my system nicely and the price is reasonable."

Awesome Picture

What's great about it: The picture is incredible.
What's not so great: It takes a long time to turn on/off and takes quite a while to load the information off the DVD.
"The pictures from this DVD player are out of this world. Even non blu-ray discs have better pictures when played on this player. The only downsides to the player are that it takes a long time to power on and off and it takes quite a while to start the disc playing because the DVD player is loading all of the information off of the DVD. Ultimately the incredible picture is worth the wait."

What's great about it: Easy to use and set up and the picture is amazing.
"I am not the most technically savvy person, but the Blu-ray player is really easy to use, is sleek and looks really nice too. The glitches that supposedly plagued the last model are gone now. The loading time is pretty quick, only a few seconds and once it starts, you're really happy you have this machine. My husband had wanted one for a while so as soon as they came out with this new model we bought it. We have a great 1080 TV, so normal dvds, tv stations (even non HD stations) look fantastic, but the blu-ray just takes it up another notch. Very good purchase."

"I have had this player for several weeks now and everytime I watch a movie, it continues to impress. It performed flawlessly out of the box with easy setup and stunning video. The player has faster loading times then other Blu-Ray models that I tried and the features are more then I need. Very happy with the purchase and also the new price!"

"I have the S300 BD player which is the predecessor to this model. I was always a bit annoyed by the slow startup on the player and slow load time. Firmware updated improved that and revealed some great BD ROM content in my collection. The new version is a little faster..I love that there's a USB port for easier firmware updates. In my other player, I had to burn the update to a DVD. Not fun.
However, all that aside...the picture is crazy-good. BD animated features look amazingly clean...non-BD features still look great...and the audio is HUGE. This player makes it worth the effort and extra money to invest in a mid-range home theater receiver."

"This is a nice system to combine with my Sony kdl w4100. The picture is amazing. I have limited myself to buying high-action blue-ray discs only and not regular movies. It's almost too much technology for me. Others may enjoy it. The only thing I've yet to do is watch a regular movie on Blue-Ray."
