What's great about it: dedicated video card, 4gb ram, nice screen, hdmi
What's not so great: relatively heavy, so-so processor, basic resolution
I purchased mine at a Best Buy in Fairfield, OH, rang up at $506.99 before tax. There are 2 keys that made me go out and get this laptop. 1) The price to performance ratio is the best available. No other laptop matches it as I'm writing this. 2) Dedicated video card. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 is "only" a decent video card, but no other laptop at this pricepoint will give you anything better than integrated video. You can get better video cards but you will be paying out a lot more. That said, the 2600 will handle most things that you throw at it, including all but the most demanding games. As with all computers, there are a few imperfections. It is relatively bulky and heavy, even compared to other 15.4 laptops out there. The processor could be faster, though it is enough for me (for now). Finally. the screen resolution of 1280x800 is tolerable, though I definitely prefer higher resolutions. It really is the bare minimum acceptable these days, and I hope companies start bumping it up soon. That said, the screen itself is nice and bright with rich colors so I won't complain much about it. The resolution really was the one major drawback that I could find with this laptop. But ultimately, it wasn't enough to dissuade me from getting this computer. For those of you who can still find it, I strongly recommend you get it. At the online price of $699.99 it's fair and you are getting good value, but if you can find it for any less, then you are getting tremendous value. Good luck! =)

What's great about it: Cheap!!
What's not so great: Gets very hot and has a very bad battery life
This notebook is amazing for its price, although the notebook gets extremely hot quickly a cooling pad will solve that issue. In addition the battery life is pretty bad, but as long as u have an extra battery you and turn down the settings you should be ok.

What's great about it: Fast machine, Great graphics & Just the right size!
What's not so great: Battery life could be a bit better. Otherwise none!
I purchased this laptop from bestbuy two weeks ago, and ever since I have been amazed at what this thing can handle. It can run video editing, image editing, video conversion, gaming etc seeminglessly. The CPU is a good speed for the price and you can't go wrong with 4GB of RAM. I was amazed at the graphics chip, now using GDDR3! I like how you have the ability to change from 64-bit vista to 32-bit vista, with just one DVD. If I was to buy anything else for this laptop, I would consider buying a 9-cell battery for that longer life whilst on the move. On average it will last anywhere between 2-3 hours, depending on usage etc. I purchased this with the printer deal, so it was a win-win for me!

What's great about it: high specifications; good gaming performance and superior overall performance
What's not so great: a bit bulky; gets a bit heated during gaming
With specifications like that of the Gateway M-6862, getting such a deal couldn't have been more sweeter. A member of the Gateway M-series notebooks, this laptop features the N-draft technology for superior wireless connectivity.Powered by the ATI Radeon HD 2600(512 MB GDDR3 memory) I was not bogged down in any of the games... The Vista performance index show a good overall point for all the performance categories. May it be the gaming or simply the internet surfing or using any general Microsoft office application, I have not experienced any slewness of any kind. Powered by the Intel T5750 processor, it can handle the multitasking and multiprocessing applications easily..Furthermore The massive 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory further bolsters the performance of this notebook. Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive included even supports the "Label Flash" technology. Massive 250 GB hard drive has enabled me to store all of my movies without any problem. On top of that it even comprises of a built-in 1.3 Mp webcam which can easily taking very clear images.
Overall for such a price, this laptop is indeed a great deal.In my perspective,May it be a gamer or just a PC enthusiast, this notebook has something in store for everyone. Apart from the superior customer service at Best buy, getting such a power packed laptop at such a price has been just like "a cherry on the cake"..

What's not so great: gateway, cheap plastics, gets hot, nothing else.
If you make a few tweaks I got the laptop to boot in 30 seconds. 64 bit is fast. burn recovery dvd and reload and you will see dramatic improvements. It is faster than my core2 quad. Get a cooling pad and the heat will not be an issue. I got it for $449.99 There is nothing better for the money.

What's great about it: great display, easy to use, lightweight
What's not so great: windows vista included
I love my new gateway laptop! It has a fantastic display screen! The heatsink is on the side of this laptop, which keeps your lap cool!
Windows vista is included, and it takes to load up. That it the only thing I don't really care for about it, but you get used to it.
This laptop is a great value for the money, and I'm happy I bought it!

What's great about it: RAM, CPU, GPU, feel, look, bang for the buck
What's not so great: Basically DOA, hopefully just a lemon
Let's start with the good;
For the price, this laptop is a steal (almost literally, it's as if you're getting a mispriced item). I paid 750 + shipping + tax and still felt as if I was getting an amazing deal. The specs on this laptop are INCREDIBLE!
Now for the bad; (a short summary is I had it for a day before it crapped out)
I got this laptop on 9/19 (ordered on 9/17, arrived on 9/18 but I wasn't there to sign. Very happy with Best Buy's speed of service; this was only using standard shipping!). The laptop was nice out of the box; plugged in, turned on the wifi switch and tried to connect to the wireless; no avail there (I was at my girlfriends place where her stepdad had his wifi set up all super-secure and he wasn't around to get the security key from). No biggie, not the laptop's fault on that. I tinkered a bit, girlfriend played around on the games it came with and had a blast (she hates most games, so this pleased me greatly). I went to work, came home and installed WoW. WoW installed fine, finally connected it to the internet for the first time. Went to update WoW and BOOOOM, blue screen of death. "unnerving.." I thought, but decided to give it another go. Several go's later I contacted Gateway support. They gave me a microsoft hotfix, which didn't help. I contacted them again, they gave me the SAME hotfix even after I told them I already did it. Third time's a charm, right? Wrong. Third time they gave me a fix that didn't even apply to my system! I got fed up with not being able to download anything big (it would halt on any internet processes requiring more than a quick few second download) so I returned it to my local Best Buy. They had geek squad check it out, then they said they didn't know what was wrong with it either and were planning to send it back to gateway. This happened by 9/21.
All in all, I plan to purchase another based entirely on the fact that Best Buy has outstanding service, so I know that if the same thing happens I'll be covered. I would not, however, recommend this to a friend unless they're as tech savvy or even moreso than I.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Gaming ability, Price, ease of initial setup
What's not so great: battery life
I recently returned a toshiba P.O.S. and picked up this laptop, i went in expecting to pay $150 more, when i told the person @ returns that i wanted this laptop (m-6862) they grabbed one rung it up and told me they owed me $171 !!! this laptop has been nothing but fun to play with and the mobility of this model and utter value has yet to dissapoint me, i returned 2 hours later and bought a second for my girlfriend, needless to say she was happier than could be that i returned with another laptop.
on a more technical side, this laptop has fulfilled my need, the dedicated graphics plays WOW @ highest settings without dropping below 50 fps, it supports most new games and is more than anyone would ever need for business or office use...
4 gigs of ram, core 2 duo centrino, dedicated ATI graphics, 250 gigs of memory, webcam, awesome wireless capabilities what else could you ask for?

What's great about it: PRICE. 4GB ram, HDMI, ati 2600 512MB
What's not so great: gets very hot on the left side, speakers are terrible. display isnt very bright.
Okay I bought this laptop for $350 using a coupon but it rings up as 449.99 in stores. (atleast mine) and with these specs you really cant go wrong. Its got a ton of ram and a big hard drive and it can also easily handle playing 1080p videos. I mainly use it as a bedroom htpc and with the wireless N, i can actually stream 1080p videos and output on my plasma with HDMI. It can also play WoW and a lot of of newer games without problems with med settings.
The left side of the of the laptop gets very hot on the bottom, and warm on the left palm area. The speakers sound pretty bad especially the louder you get. Also the display has a pretty small viewing angle.

What's great about it: PRICE, speed, specs..
What's not so great: none
This is the best purchase I have made in a long time. The cost of this laptop has dropped in stores to $449.. The price VS the specs on this computer is unreal. This is a solid investment and on a scale of 1-10 on how happy I am with this purchase... it would rate about 110.
Thanks Best Buy!

What's great about it: Swap Meet Price, 4GB,512 GDDR3, 250hardDrive, Web cam,DVD
What's not so great: Caution: Heats Up So Bad at the Left Lower Side/ Beware: SouthPaws
First of all Id like to thank those honest and helpful reviews you guys made which helped me a lot in my decision in buying this laptop.
Got it for only 524.99 and what more can you ask for! Buy now while supplies last.only have it for about two weeks and its been playing great with 2005 and below games still about to try high demanding games but no problem with the pixel shader its at 4.0, not as fast as a mac but is capable in playing fast paced games. Color is good and Wifi gets you connected. bat is only good for 2.5 hours but works like a slavehorse.
For its price there nothing much to yap about, It only gets hot when you play games and if you have a low tolerance level might affect your left palm and wrist because of the temp of the exhaust at the left side, so if your a lefty be more ready to take the heat.
Remedy: Buy a Chilling mat with Fans reduces and maintains the heat in a tolerable level. Always put it in a flat surface, played it in bed with sheets for 12hrs and heats so bad that i had my first crash. had to cool it off before got working fine again. Flat surface is more reccomended. Mouse would help too for heat that affects tha palms
Despite this drawback its still a best buy from best buy
, only concern is that its so cheap that gateway might release a new and better version with less heat but more power.

This laptop when on sale is a spectacular deal. Don't worry about the 64-bit operating system, you will never run in to anything that is incompatible, the biggest issue with 64 bit is drivers and all of the hardware on this system is covered.

What's great about it: Great pricing on this laptop, able to play the latest games on this computer on med-low graphics
What's not so great: None
When I saw these system specs on this laptop, I thought that it'd be able to handle some gaming, and still be a great computer for storing music, videos, etc. I am totally psyched to get this laptop, I've been researching computers at Circuit city for quiet some time. Only to find that all of those laptops have an integrated graphics card... and that doesn't fit my needs at all.
a 10/100/1000 gigabit ethernet would be great for this system, but it does have a great wireless a/b/g/n, which is great because I am far from the router. And now i can get a better Connection, and connection speed.
Havn't found a processor i can upgrade with this computer yet... (Maybe because i havn't researched the Gateway site with this model).
This computer is definitly a must have if your on a budget and really need your money's worth.
I am expecting this laptop to last me from my sophmore year. To at least 2-3 maybe even 4 years of college, if there are some upgrades available with the processor and a DDR3 ram stick perhaps.
I would've also hoped that this computer was 8gb expandable for RAM, Gateway's speakers also have never been very rich. But this does have an HD audio card, for pristine sound if your using later audio technology, like some of those Logitech 5.1 Speakers.
The best buy i could ever find from Bestbuy. I use to be very skeptical about buying a computer from a retail store, and by far will this have proven me wrong.
I reccomend this computer to anyone on a budget and who wants to get a computer for the buck.

What's great about it: 512mb gddr 3 ati hd card, 4gb ram, 250 gb hdd, webcam, wireless n
What's not so great: a bit warm when you put your hand to the fan while its processing something, little heavy.
Ok,
I love this laptop. I convinced my brother to take to best buy to get this laptop. it was on special for 555.99 so i picked it up and bought a mini bluetooth adapter and a really nice case. it came geek squad optimized so there was no trials or anything, clean copy of windows. this computer is unbelievable. it automatically connected to my home network which is N and the speed is ridiculous. next, i installed spore and played on highest settings, flawless. then i nstalled printer, office and everything. soooo fast. the webcam is great, chat with all my friends and the 64 bit visa is sooo great. also, having two processors versus one is amazing case multitasking is my thing. hard drive is more than enough and 4gb of ram speeds everything up. screen is great. it is the best desktop replacement ever and it takes up no room, just a little heavy. I LOVE THIS COMPUTER AND GET IT WHILE YO CAN!

What's great about it: Price, Display, Memory, Speed
What's not so great: No firewire, location of ctrl key, no s-video out
This is a great laptop so far. I've only had it about 24 hours but I am quite impressed. It's super fast, the display is beautiful, there's enough memory to keep me happy for quite some time. I am upgrading from a HP dv6125 and the differences in screen quality just blows me away. I picked this system up for $524.99 on 9/13/08. It was not on display and I had to specifically ask for it at the store.
My only complaints have to do with the placement of the ctrl key. For some reason Gateway has decided it was ok to switch the standard layout. I find myself hitting the Function key when needing to hit the ctrl key. I also miss the addition of firewire and unlike my HP there is no s-video for hooking up to non-HDMI tvs.
So far I'm thrilled with this new laptop.

What's not so great: runs hot
After 2 days of installing every app I could find, the only one that I could not get to work was Oblivion, which it states on the Bethesda website that it would not support Vista.
This is a great buy, highly recommended. It is fast and responsive and only took a couple hours to remove the preinstalled garbage (i do not understand why reputable companies continue to use WildTangent software).

What's great about it: Memory, Video card with 512MB of dedicated DDR3 memory. Price-Price-Price.
What's not so great: None found by me.
I was eyeing an HP with blu-ray rom drive, it was out of stock. Saw all the reviews for this and thought about it for a few days, when I decided to get this it was all gone at 2 local stores. :-( But being persistent I finally found this a few hours ago and the price was only $529.99.Can't sleep on this deal(or should I say steal). Hurry while they still have them.
I would recommend this to a friend!
