What's great about it: Look and Feel, Performance, Price What's not so great: Battery life could be a little better
"Before I purchased this computer, I had owned a Toshiba previously. I had it for 5 years, all through college, so it went through a lot. My old computer still works, it was just about time to upgrade. I knew I wanted a Toshiba after my last one was so good to me. I came across this one at my local Best Buy and fell in love with it. The 4 GB processor is amazingly fast no matter what you are running. The speakers are harman/kardon and they really sound good. You can tweak with the bass settings to make it sound very rich. There are also built in media controls that run across the top of the laptop, very useful for anyone who likes to listen to music while they work or play. I wasn't too sure if i would like the 14.1 in. screen after having a 16 in + with my last computer. After only 2 weeks of using it, I am absolutely in love with the size. The screen clarity is amazing and watching a DVD is just like watching it on any plasma. The keys are different from most laptops, they have a glossy finish. They are incredibly soft and extremely user friendly. Your hands will glide across the keys. A lot of reviews are saying this is a bad thing because it holds fingerprints so easily, but you really can't tell unless you look really closely, and if you are buying a laptop to sit there and look at it and make sure there are no fingerprints, I feel sorry for you. One cool feature I will touch on is the face recognition security. It is kind of ridiculous when you think about it, but it is pretty fun. You can take a picture of your face with the built in webcam, and everytime you sign in, instead of using a password, the webcam will scan your face, and it will only sign on if it recognizes your face. So far, it has worked for me, but I think I will stick with the password because it takes a little longer to log in with the face recognition. COOL FEATURE THO! The only SLIGHT downfall this computer has is the battery life. I am experiencing about 55-75 minutes depending on what I am doing. I have been using it in balanced power mode which is the middle option. There is a power save option that dims the screen and slows down certain things that will get you closer to 2 hours. But the machine is so powerful, you sacrifice the battery a bit. Overall, I give this computer 5 stars. For under $700, there isn't a computer out there that can outperform this computer, I can almost guarantee that."

What's great about it: Very powerful, lots of memory What's not so great: nothing
"This is my first Toshiba laptop. I'll start with the pros. The display is very crisp, it has 2.1ghz dual core x64 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, it is lightweight and thin, and has decent sound. The powerful processor and decent graphics set allow great photo editing abilities (ie photoshop, or gimp). It has a 256 mb ATI graphics chip set, which allows you to play Half Life 2 at decent graphics (1024 by 768). Vista runs smoothly, and is very fast. It was no problem migrating from XP to Vista. I used the Vista migration wizard with a network cable and copied all my music, files, and documents in less than an hour. Here are some minor cons. It came loaded with trials and games that slow down your pc. I just uninstalled them and deleted the files manually. This sped up the pc greatly. The sound driver may be glitchy. I solved this by uninstalling it, and then reinstalling the one located in \TOSAPINS\COMPS1\Conexant Software Modem Driver (64bit)0\MANUAL. It works a lot better and there are no glitches. In the end, this powerful laptop is a great value and is great for work or school."

What's great about it: Very Fast, Bright Screen, Slick Keyboard What's not so great: High Pitched annoying fan
"I got this computer for christmas and have been using it for the past few days and so far love it. Everything I have installed so far has been compatible with vista 64 bit(even some programs I looked up on microsofts website that were supposedly not compatible). The computer is very stylish and has a modern look without being too crazy looking. The 14 inch screen size is great and makes the computer much more portable than the 15-17 inch models without being too small like the netbooks. The speakers are nice and have good sound quality for a laptop and the screen is very bright and easy to see. Performance so far has been top notch and seems like a dream when compared to my old laptop with a terrible celeron processor. The computer has a built in webcam which is cool but doesn't exactly take good pictures. If you purchase this computer my advice would be to first remove the preinstalled Nortion antivirus, this drastically slows down the internet and computer (Not to mention those annoying alerts which seem to pop up every 5 seconds). My only complaint so far is the high pitched sound the fan makes which can be quite annoying (Thats why I gave it 3 stars for convienience). The battery life is not too impressive but a better battery can be purchased if thats a huge issue."

What's great about it: Light & Portable, Performance What's not so great: Battery life, leaves fingerprints
"This is my first laptop and so far i have really enjoyed it. I've had it for about a month now and so far no problems at all. Programs run fast, picks up internet signal great. The shining finish leaves fingerprints but unless your picky about things like that its not really an issue. The only thing bad about it is the battery life. I bought this primarily for school and I'm not sure it would make it through 3 hours worth of classes. I'm having to buy a back up battery to take with me. You can switch the amount of power it uses from High Performance to Battery Saver. That will give you an extra half hour to an hour. All in all ,great computer for the price. I'm very happy with it."

What's great about it: Nice Performance, Good Sound, Good Memory What's not so great: Battery Life Is about 1 hr and a half, webcam not good.
"This is a good laptop for the price, (I paid 700). It has a nice screen and a bright display. It runs pretty nice too. The only problems are short battery life, and the webcam is not good. Also, when i shut it down, sometimes it makes this humming sound and stays on. But overall its a good laptop."

What's great about it: Processor, Speed, Graphics What's not so great: Battery life, Label Flash
"I have enough knowledge to built and maintain my own and every family members computers so when my wife wanted a computer I did my research and decided on this one, the most bang for the buck, besides it was $200 buck off. Have been using the machine for 3 months now. I like the 2.1ghz ZM-80 with 1 mb of L2 cache versus the TL series processors with 512 mb of L2 cache. I liked the ATI graphics chip (instead of the slower Intel chip). I like the 4 gb of RAM and the 250 gb had drive. I liked the Vista 64 bit OS, as it is able to utilize the processors 64 bit capabilities. Don't worry about the system not running 32 bit software as it has run every bit of software I have put on it. Yea, battery life kinda sucks, so put the computer in power saver mode when you run on battery. Somebody wrote it only has 2 USB ports, wrong, it has 3 ports. The other USB port is shared with the e-sata port on the left side, I know I use it every day. One more gripe, Toshiba likes "Label Flash" which is like Lightscribe but not as popular, you have to use Label Flash discs. They are harder to find and a bit more expensive. If you don't use this feature then no problem."

What's great about it: 14" screen best price point for AMD, great keyboard What's not so great: first one had a boot error, remember this is a 64-bit windows version
"If you are a price-sensitive value buyer, this may be the best laptop you'll find. It was for me.
While the first laptop we got had a recurring boot error, Best Buy amazingly helped us return it while traveling across the US without the orignal disks or the receipt--we had to find a store with it in stock to do the swap since we didn't have the boot disks. Cheers to the South Bend Indiana store that helped us out of that mess.
And it is a great laptop. Our family already had two of the prior processor toshiba amd 14" and love it, so this was a natural choice for the latest laptop need. The 14" size is a good compromise between portability and visual impact. It also should use a little less battery than a 15".
The combination of the amd processor and the graphics subprocessor make for a fast, capable machine that will be a good all around tool for office work as well as pictures, video editing or anything. This one has worked great out of the box by the way, I should have returned the first one as soon as I saw the boot error, instead of reinstalling twice to try to cure it myself.
BTW, I am a keyboard fanatic and this has a great keyboard. The simple included webcam is a good choice for aps like skype, which we use a lot.
One thing to remember is that this is 64-bit windows. That gives you more memory access, hence the 4 G ram included, but it also can mean some older 32-bit programs may not install smoothly. Usually there are workarounds for that. This is not office, of course, but things like a university matlab, cadcam, or network ap that have not been updated recently. No problem there for my wife. All our apps have worked without issues, even if they don't cite 64-bit vista compatibility."

What's great about it: ZM processor, RAMMemory, Compact design What's not so great: No S-Video port
"GREAT BUY - Value for Money... PROS:After my previous 3 laptops I wanted something which is very compact, light weight and faster with good graphic capability which I found in this laptop.. This laptop is well articulated with ZM 80 processor, 4GB RAM and decent graphics card. I played HDD Video and high end graphical games, laptop never shows any sign of flaw. The performance is too good, huge data transfer takes few seconds looks like dedicated data transfer machine. CONS: S-VIDEO port is missing, thats it. Battery life can be improved. Mine 1hr 10 min with HIGH performance mode. 1hr 35min with power safe mode. Initially LAPTOP behaved abruptly, later I found that its problem with VISTA, once all the latest updates, hotfixes were installed performance was flawless. This laptop is well articulated I didnt find any heating problem running continously for 8 to 9 hours."

What's great about it: Speed, Design, and Toshiba Programs What's not so great: None so far!!
"I bought this laptop over a month ago. It was deffinetly a GREAT choice. Always go with a Toshiba laptop! The speed of the laptop is so fast, I almost never have to wait for something to download. When you buy this laptop, also make sure you get the Netgear Range Max router. It is one of the fastest routers out their that works with this computer. The design of the computer is also very sleak. If you don't mind a few fingerprints, this computer will work for you. Another thing about this computer is that it works great with a home network. I have this set up with four home network drives, and a network printer. It works great and most importantly FAST! GREAT PRICE FOR THE MONEY..."

What's great about it: Price, size, power What's not so great: Battery life, screen
"This is the first laptop I purchased. I researched as best I could for my needs: portable, capable of light gaming, and inexpensive. This hits all 3 marks very well. I paid $650 for it on sale at Best Buy. For that price it blew everything else Best Buy offered out of the water. At the full price of over $800 you may want to shop around. My biggest peeve is the screen and needing to use the ATI graphics controllers. I do a lot of graphic editing on my desktop and was hoping to be able to do so on my laptop, even just lightly. Not a great idea. Colors don't seem to be accurate, it looks mildly washed out almost, and it's a bit of a challenge to even get the contrast working well. For web browsing and word processing it's fine--just don't buy this thinking it will be an amazing screen. It's not bad, just your average laptop one. This thing is a lot bigger than you'd think. If you think 14.1" is too small, you may want to think again. Everything feels like it's the right size and it still manages to be pretty light. Toting it around the house is easy. And the wifi catcher is GREAT at picking up a signal! Battery life leaves a lot to be desired. I'm going to look into a better 9-cell battery later on. With wifi disabled I can watch movies for about 110 minutes before it hits critical. Word processing would be a fair bit longer. Wifi enabling sucks the battery down quickly, especially if you're doing anything to tax the video card. the laptop itself is a really nice package. Good form, interesting keyboard, the style of it is a lot more professional and muted than I would have thought from the web shots. the processor is powerful. The new AMD Puma (what this is) chipset is quite nice indeed. And 4 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 RAM is really more than most people will ever need. It helps the integrated graphics out. For anyone wondering if it'll run World of Warcraft--even with a few dozen addons, my WoW runs a smooth 45+ FPS in action full sccreen with medium settings. Anything very advanced will not play so well, but for games a few years old (or even Team Fortress 2) it will make them playable at the very least. All in all a really nice laptop. Not the best of the best, but for a sub-$1000 budget I think it is worth considering."

What's great about it: Lightweight, design, speed What's not so great: Battery life last about 2 hours, occationally it freezes if the battery drains
"Overall I have really enjoyed this laptop. The only major problem I have had is that if I don't plug it in or hybrnate it before the battery goes dead it will occationally freeze on start up the next time. This has only happened 2 times since I have had it (roughly 3 months)."

What's great about it: Everything processes FAST What's not so great: Haven't found one yet
"I run an internet business and I needed a computer that can process pages and programs quickly. My old computer couldn't run any program and keep up with the new anti-virus programs and XP operating system. I couldn't open a program without it taking forever to open, I couldn't edit a photograph with any amount of speed, internet pages took forever to change and I use a HIGH SPEED FIBER OPTIC hard wired connection. I needed a laptop with a top line processor and memory. With this TOSHIBA Satellite M305D, the 4 GB memory, AMD Turion(tm) Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 processor and 250 GM hard drive, every program, every internet screen opens and changes at the speed of light. I have increased my productivity four times or more. PLUS, my Toshiba came with much more than I wanted or needed. I had heard horror stories about Vista but so far, I love it. I had to download some drivers from the mfg. websites but that went smoothly. I love my new Toshiba!"

What's great about it: Lots of memory, nice display, portable..I could go on What's not so great: battery seems to not hold full 2hrs
"First laptop purchase, after bout a month of reading reviews, comparing prices, checking features and specs (which drove my wife crazy) very cautious on major purchases. I have been very pleased. I'm a engineering student and so far havent had any problems, bought it bout a month ago, so havent had all the problems I've been reading about (fingers crossed). The processsor I was unfamiliar with the AMD Turon, but no complaints, was very surprised all the specs for the price compared to $1100 and up systems."
