What's great about it: Has everything I can think of What's not so great: Screen and the back smudges easily
"I love this phone. ever since I got it, I keep finding new features in this phone and keep loving it even more
unlocked Phone so I can use it with any network - Physical keyboard that types very well - Very responsive phone - Awesome battery life (though some apps I downloaded are battery hoggers, so I might uninstall them) - pretty good looks. check out any pic of the phone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nokiae71.jpg
- MicroSD card support - Has 3G, 3.5G (HSPDA - next step for 3G), Bluetooth, Infrared and WiFi, GPS.. yes everything that makes me happy - Voice calling (but the cool thing is that you don't have to record voice tags, it already has text-to-speech engine installed) - This also means that it can read my emails to me :) yes.. pretty cool huh? - Name reading for incoming calls (so when some calls me, it also speaks the name of the caller along with the ring tone). And I don't have to get up from the couch if its my boss ;) - Cool Apps -- like Slick IM (all IM clients in one and doesnt use text messages) -- Card Scanner (reads a business card by taking a pic and then creates a contact for the person.. no more typing) -- Media Player (maybe the quality is not as good as iTunes but good enough) -- PodCasting client (downloads my fav podcast so I can listen to them on the plane) -- GPS apps like SportsTracker that you just have read more about -- Advanced Call Manager that lets you record personalized greetings for callers.
this is just tooo good
One qualm I have.. the 3G DOES NOT work with T Mobile. apparently TMobile sends their 3G over a frequency that phone does not support. Whats worse is that this can cause harm to your phone. so, if you are on TMobile, turn the Dual Mode off.. keep it in GPRS mode and not UTMS. I am on TMobile and it doesn't matter to me that I cant use 3G since I do most of my downloading using WLAN anyway..
Go Nokia"

What's great about it: Easy to setup, inuitive PC interface, compact size, battery life What's not so great: nothing so far
"I needed to replace my Cingular 3125, and since AT&T wouldn't consider advancing by 3 months one of my upgrades on my 5 phone account, I decided to go the Best Buy unlocked phone route (great financing deal plus the GEEK squad Black Tie protection plan is outstanding). I initially tried the HTC Touch Diamond, but found too many quirks to make it usable for business (back cover slides off very easily, the touch screen was very sluggish when multiple apps running, and it was annoying to have to use a stylus for certain applications). So after reading the CNET review on this machine, I decided to try it.
I have never used a blackberry style phone before, so I was concerned about the QWERTY keyboard, especially on this phone since I have big thumbs and this is a small machine. However, the design of the domed keys is such that I have not had any problems. The unit is much smaller and thinner than a lot of other smart phones, which was a must to me.
The phone quality and signal strength on the AT&T network is excellent. The WiFi connection was simple to setup and allows me to avoid purchasing an AT&T data package for email and internet. The contacts were very quick and easy to setup, as was the customization of the soft keys and home page. The calendar is truly excellent - set to a monthly snapshot with daily agenda to the right makes it a breeze to see what's happening.
Perhaps the best feature of this phone is the PCsuite tools that support MS Office & Outlook integration. Connecting to Outlook was a snap, and the backup and file management tools are great. One of the nicest features is a contacts editor that allows you to use your PC to update/consolidate contacts (this was a big help when converting from the SIM card). I was never a big fan of Windows Mobile because of the sluggishness of the interface, so this was a very pleasant surprise.
Bottom line, I saved over $250 switching from the HTC Touch Diamond to the Nokia E71 and got superior machine from a quality manufacturer."

What's great about it: design, capabilities, and benefits What's not so great: nothing so far
"One of the surprising aspects of this phone was the ability to use it as a modem to get internet access on my laptop anywhere with out the need for wifi. The wifi is great, but AT & T has unlimited media net access for $15.00. I have dropped it a few times, but the phone proves to be durable. It may be a little price, but when you look at what you get for the price, its a steal.(3.2mp camera, phone, wifi, mp3, expandability, internet browser, video recorder, and the ability to view, generate, and edit documents). Its definitely more than a phone."

What's great about it: Works fine with an AT&T sim card What's not so great: Freezes, restarts with a T-Mobile sim card
"I have T-Mobile w/ t-mobile internet and the phone does not work well at all. It suddenly freezes or may even shut-down and restart on its own. I was not able to answer incoming calls either. However, when I installed an AT&T sim card, everything worked fine - go figure."

What's great about it: barrery life, a lot of features, great browser, size What's not so great: expensive, symbian, finger print magnet
"The Nokia E71-2 is a great phone. When I first saw it online I thought it was ugly... When I finally bought the device and held it I found it was great looking. It is "mirror-like" and extremely thin. The phone feels like all metal and feels like it was made with quality. The downside of the mirror-like look is that it picks up fingerprints very easily.
The sound quality on the phone was great and the 3G signal is better than any other 3G phone I have used on AT&T. In Framingham, MA and Tampa, FL I was literally always covered. The web browser on the device is great and renders the page like it would on a computer.
The phones runs the Symbian operating system... some people love it, others hate it. I personally am not a fan and that is why I no longer use this phone. The look of the OS is outdated and is very simple. Compared to a BlackBerry, I feel that Symbian and its options are extremely limited. The E-mail on Symbian was horrible and I had to manually check it to read the emails.
All in all, it is a great phone if you like Symbian OS. You can always try it for 30 days and return it if it is not to your liking."

What's great about it: sleek design, user-friendly, great connectivity What's not so great: keyboard a bit cramped
"This phone is very sleek and looks very elegant and never I would've thought something so small could possibly not only have 3G but wifi, gps, infrared, etc. It does have the whole nine yards! It is a bit pricy but I think it is worth it. The only downside I found to it was the keyboard. If you have small fingers and no long nails, you should be fine. And so far, it is good enough for me. But for women that has long manicures or for bigger finger people, this might get a little "tricky". Other than that, I'm a very phone-picky person and all I can say is that this makes me content for the time being. Not a whole lot of phones do that. I also own an iPhone that certainly didn't meet my expectations. This item is highly recommended. :)"

What's great about it: stylish, thin, great tech support What's not so great: exchange mail client is not loaded/on the expensive side
"As a long time smart phone user, this by far is the best phone I've have had. It georgeous, thien and stylist. The few preloaded themes are very easy on the eyes and the layout is very intuative although the keyboard is on the cramp side even for my small fingers.
The battery life is fantastic.
If you do not use exchange, the setup couldn't be easier, just pop the sim and battery in, charge and its ready to use. Pop mail setup is very easy, however exchange mail support is not preinstalled and you would have to go to Nokia site and download it, install via Nokia PC Suite and configure it. In sort, if you want exchange mail on the E71, get a tech savy friend to help you.
Even with the phone having been flashed to the latest flash, my first one had allot of problem with locking up and rebooting itself. After having search Nokia knowledge database on what to do and found no resolution and having written Nokia email support for help without getting a reasonably fast respond, I called Nokia tech support for help. I found Nokia tech support to be excellent. I got a live person on the line right away. After a short time on the line and not finding a resolution, the tech support person recommended that I take the phone back to Bestbuy. On that advice I took it back and Bestbuy promptly credited me of which I immediately brought a replacement E71 from them.
I'm hoping that the freez up is just a manufacturing defect and my latest phone will work fine. If not, I don't know what else I'm going to have to settle for. Once you have seen the best phone you can't go back to anything less..."

What's great about it: Keypad, camera, battery life... everything! What's not so great: Nothing!
"I got this phone a week ago and cannot put it down. It is perfect for people who want to have 1 phone for both work and personal. You can switch between home screens by changing the "Modes"- Menu- Tools- Modes. On my personal side I have my calendar displayed with my personal emails. On my work side I have my mail for exchange up. My husband now wants this phone, so I guess we will be a family of E71's. Check out CNET's review of this phone."

What's great about it: Great features and design What's not so great: keyboard takes getting use to and the phone is kind of expensive
"overall its a great phone, all the features are easy to use, nokia maps takes a bit to get use to but once you are familiar with it , it is extremely hand. Camera is great. If your looking for a smartphone with a qwerty keyboard and not wanting to sacrifice size i highly recommend this phone, price maybe a bit steep but its only about $50 overprice , I ask "why not?""

What's great about it: Size, Looks, Features, Cost over time, Easy learning curve for experienced users. What's not so great: Could be about $50 -$60 less to be perfect price for US market (compared to Iphone Standard)
"Okay, I am an experienced smartphone user back to pocket PC's and Palms as stand alone units, through Treos and the first Windows mobile and such systems. I popped my AT&T sim in and it asked if I wanted to set up, i said yes and it set everything up automatically. I had a Razr with the 15 media plan so did not know if it would work but the phones sets everything up with the wap.cingular settings and I have everything in a 3G package for far less than the $30 or more PDA or Iphone plans. I have push e-mail set up through "mail2web" exchange server so the BB connect feature is nothing missing and again i would have needed to get the higher BB plan to get that to work. Only problem is when I have push on it drains the battery. Not terrible i can still get a Work days usage solidly out of the unit, but usually it will die around 9pm, if I do my typical rutine. (Which is very heavy in e-mail, media, and web browsing throughout the day and into the evening walk of the dog where I listen to music and surf as I walk through the park." On lighter weekend days I can turn off push e-mail and I will get through the entire weekend with one charge. #G works great on the basic media net plan, I can watch youtube, surf the web, listen to music, Call quality is great, can use it (again with the $15 media net plan) as a modem with my laptop in a pinch to do some light surfing. There is a free program that allows you to use the phones 3G internet as a hotspot, or you can connect it to the phone and use through a usb cable. The keyboard if excellent for typing, slightly small but easy to get past after a day of use. Screen is again slightly small, but can be seen in direct sunlight, day or night. If you have used other smartphones, I have had them all, you will pick up on symbian quickly. It's a solid operating system, I've had no issues with it, add added an 8GB microSD card and it's like an ipod nano/blackberry/nokia n810/ Nokia 6103 in one, that's a good music player (not great) but good and it has bluetooth stereo so i can listen with a pair of bluetooth headphones I have. A great messnger with a great battery, great internet I liked the stock browser but i am starting to like opera more, but either one does a great job. and a great phone. reception has been great. i tried to see if I had the issue that some have reported with the reception if you hold the phone at the bottom. I can see the bars come down but I have to really try to cover the the entire bottom, so reception has been great, I would say on par with the best smartphones I've had with any provided, and I've had all of the Big 4. If you are willing to pay the premium upfront you won't regret it in the end. How I got to this phone: I really wanted something differnet, got a new Iphone 3G the week it came out and sold it for all it's flaws. Got $300 more than i paid, but now had no phone so. I tried the Touch Dual, touch, and a few others, Centro, BlackJack II, Tilt, and known really did it for me in terms of offering everything. So I went back to my old RAZR and added the media net plan for $15 dollars. So I had been looking online and saw this a thought it would meet my needs but never had a symbian phone except an e62 for a few weeks, I liked it alot but it was too large for me, so I always liked symbian, but never found one that did it for me in looks, i had an n80 8gb version right before I got the E71."

What's great about it: It has a GREAT! camera. 3G. The full keyboard. What's not so great: The price is kinda high but I guess its ok for all it does.
"I just played with this phone in the store and im going back tomorrow to get it. Its the best thing ever. Really thin and shiny. The camera was seriously to dang good for 3.2 megapixel. I guess it also has 3g. Oh and I found out it had radio and 8gb expandable. Wish it was ALL BLACK but itl do. Overall best phone ever. I was gonna wait for the blackberry bold or blackberry javelin but ill just buy them both. Haha."

Fastest small/full QWERT phone out there
08/27/2008
By aneftpfrom Orlando
What's great about it: 3.5g, small pocketable, solid steel construction, RF, incredible battery life, wifi, quick gps, flash lite support What's not so great: screen size only 2.35 inch, expensive, multimedia support weak, 3.2MP camera very average, lack of BB Connect Support
"This is a great phone. It is the smallest full QWERT smartphone out there. Solid build construction with steel/chrome metal in most places. Feels great in the hands. Solid RF. I know there were a few problems reported when the first batch of phones were released the last week of July. Purchased mine 2 weeks ago and no RF issues at all. Battery life is tremendous. You get a full 2 days on heavy usage with wifi/3g/bluetooth all the time. This is great for smartphones. My iphone 3g gets about 0.75-1 day of usage. This is based on "real time experience" and not the manufactuers specifications. The sound is loud on this phone. Speakerphone is good. I had a motorola Q Global and that phone has the best speakerphone on the planet but the Nokia E71 is still solid.
One word describes this phone: FAST. Everything loads very quickly. This is the fastest internet surfing device on the planet. Web pages loads in seconds, even complicated ones. You can do a google search and look at other review sites and everyone says the same. It has flash lite support out of the box so you can surf the "full" youtube websites.
Supports everything (wifi/bluetooth/3g/GPS). The GPS is very solid. I use free google maps and it locks into the signals within 20 seconds.
The only downside is the screen size which is a little on the small size (compared to the iphone's 3.5 inch) but everything else the packed into the solid little Nokia device. It is by far the fastest/smallest/thinnest smartphone out there. This phone has everything.
You need to physicially hold this phone to notice how thin this phone is. Pictures do not tell how thin this phone is.
Overall, it's a very solid buy if you can afford the high price tag."
