What's great about it: This camera is just terrific. You truly cannot take a bad picture with it.
What's not so great: Not as small as the tiny compact pocket size ones, don't let that stop you.

"This camera was great right out of the box. I can't stop using it. My fear was that it was going to feel big compared to my little cannon that I was used to but that never even entered my mind once this was in my hand. Auto everything, great clarity, and what I never had with the compact ones is that it's fast! No more missing the good shots because your camera decides to "think" a bit.
Bought mine at best buy and got a case which came with an extra battery and I bought more memory obviously. Do yourself a favor and get this camera, you will not be disappointed. I love it!"

"This has been hands down the best camera i have ever used. I have been a fan of canon cyber shot until i purchased my first DSLR. I no longer have to wait with my finger on the shot button for the action to happen. This has been one of the fastest reacting camera i have ever used. Anyone still using cybershot cameras need to step up to a DSLR. You won't regreat doing so. the images are far better then any Canon I used in years past, I have owned over 4 differant Canon cybershot cameras. You get pro pictures with the optics on the Sony DSLR."

What's great about it: Overall Price, in Camera Image Stablization, Lens Flexibility
What's not so great: No possibility to use a shutter release cable

"Bought this camera last week at my local best buy store in Brandon for $599.98 which included a 75 - 300 mm lens that normally costs $299. This was a great package deal. Took that camera out this past weekend and just snapped away till I had over 150 pictures in the box. Brought it home and downloaded (3 minutes) all to my laptop. Every single picture was in focus and color was perfect.

My other camera is a Fuji S9000 that I have taken over 5000 pictures with. I came home on many occasions and was disappointed because the pictures were out of focus or were too dark or washed out in light.

Only issues I have is the flash shoe does not allow my flash to be installed but there is an adapter for around $20 on ebay that will allow it to be used. Also, I like to take pictures on the tripod but with a shutter release cable. This camera does not allow use of this cable.

Again, the pictures were excellent quality, camera is easy to use, value is outstanding for this camera as long as you get the kit like I did. Already recommending this camera to my friends. You cannot go wrong with this one."

What's great about it: Very easy to use, image stabalizer, extra lens in package deal, Quality, Very affordable, Live View!, Great battery life
What's not so great: Shutter release a little loud maybe is all

"Bought this camera for my girlfriend and she LOVES it! Very new and first real experience with an Digital SLR so there is a lot to learn but it is very easy to operate. We bought it from Best Buy because they had a special package deal going on with an extra lens which became very affordable. We also put it on their financing option so I got a new large screen TV and she got her SLR. The service was great and their reward zone program pays off. She had been eyeing this camera since it came out and she hadn't seen an affordable SLR with liveview technology in this price range. We also have a small point and shoot sony camera and love the features Sony has available plus it will be much easier sticking with the same brand. The camera has a dust detection sensor which is an added benefit. You will need to purchase a memory card seperate as with all digital cameras so we purchased the 2GB PNY compact flash card along with it. Has a cable included to hook up directly to our computer and the manual is very easy to understand. Didn't even notice it much until we saw another comment on the shutter relase being a little loud but not to big of a deal. Surprised at how impactful the flash was as she took numerous picutres of me setting up the TV lol. Very exited to put the camera to use with Christmas coming up. Great investment."

"This is a wonderful camera. I bought it for my husband for his birthday, and after looking at dozens of other cameras, this was the most user friendly, and high quality camera that I found. I got the package deal with the additional lens, which was also great. I like this camera so much that we actually argue over who's turn it is to take pictures, so I am going to go out and get another one for myself!"

What's great about it: Easy to use; wonderful quality; personal setting are not complicated; and great price.
What's not so great: I have never had anything bad to say about it.

"Sony has created a wonderful camera for the entry level DSLR user who has left their point and shoot cameras far behind. I would call myself a novice photographer who loves to go out shooting buildings, cars, friends and family. I have used this camera for the few photography jobs the included weddings and have had great results with the quality of the pictures. The fact that this is a camera that will last me near a lifetime makes its construction very important to me. The body has stood up to the grueling punishment of younger children and survived with never a scratched, nor was there any problem with the lenses and mirror. The anti-dust technology and the "super steady shot" technologies are not found in many entry level cameras; that is including Canon and Nikon. For all this new technology and durable construction, Sony has not hit the consumer in the pocket book. The price might be a daunting commitment at first, but the rewards far exceed the price."

What's great about it: Auto mode is great for the beginner, long battery life, solid feel, great quality pics
What's not so great: so many features...a lot to learn

"I have had this camera for around three weeks now. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember, but this is my first SLR/DSLR. I have been so happy with this camera. I have taken around 1500 pic already on only 2 full battery charges. The auto mode makes it easy to get great shots while learning the manual modes. For a beginner like me this is essential. The tilt screen has made itself useful in quite a few situations. As far as the tecnical specs I cannot elaborate as it will take quite a while to learn all of this, but I can tell you that the picture quality is amazing. I use photoshop cs3 and the possiblities are endless when you have the quality pics to begin with. I have owned just bout every brand of point and shoot camera, my favorite, and best quality, a Sony DSC-V1. That camera 5.1mp was even better than the 8-10mp branded other cameras that I used. This led me to research fully and purchase this camera. I would fully recomend this camera to anyone."

What's great about it: Great image quality, Big LCD display, lots of available accessories, compatible with my Minolta lenses
What's not so great: Shutter speed and iris controls are not separate, no separate "highlights" display to check exposure

"I wanted a DSLR that would put my Minolta Maxxum/AF lenses back to good use. I've found this to be the best entry-level DSLR I've worked with. I've shot with several Nikon cameras (D40, D70, D2H & D200). The Sony gives me more of what I want for less that what I'd pay for the Nikons, and I already had a stock of compatible lenses. The only drawbacks I've found are (1) that there's only one exposure wheel for iris and shutter speed (it controls one if you just turn it, and the other if you press a separate button while turning it), and (2) that Sony tried to cram the histogram highlights for my taste. Nikons have a separate display screens for highlights and histogram, so it's easier to check your exposure. All-in-all, I'd highly recommend this Sony, especially if you have any Minolta accessories collecting dust."

SONY a300 - Image

What's great about it: My Minolta AF Lenses snapped right in and worked. My old lenses even auto focused. Some of the best night shots.
What's not so great: Won't charge through USB. No Carl Ziese lens

"This camera is one of the best for its price versus features. The Pros box just wasn't long enough for all of the pros I have with this camera.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars with features is because it doesn't charge through the USB Port. The Carl Ziese lens isn't really a big deal, but just to have the name with the product is always a nice option.
Other Pros are:
Very decent built in flash with option for upgrade.
Nice battery life
Ability to save as RAW image
Tilt screen is nice, although I am an eyepiece user
Electronic eyepiece so you can see what the lens sees
White Balance modes are superb
The list continues...
There are so many cameras out there, but this is the best for the features you get.
Attached a JPG right from the camera in low light conditions... When comparing this with a 10 MP Fuji it is far better."

"As a hobby photographer, I needed to get rid of my 35mm SLR for some time. I was hesitant having invested in several Minolta AF lenses. Sony came to the rescue with their Alpha DSLR cameras.

I've had this camera for about three months now.

This camera is an excellent camera for the hobbyist or general family photographer who wants great pictures.

When the wife wants to take pictures, she just puts it on Auto and gets
