What's great about it: Wonderful first DSLR Cheap lenses Good control. Live View
What's not so great: Auto focus. Live View
better stock lens than Nikon or Canon entry levels. This was my First SLR style camera and it was very easy to learn how to use. Old Minolta lens that have been picked up work well. Great flexibility, manual control is wonderful.
The live view preview is a great feature for a person learning about shutter speed and aperture.
Great Camera for starter, but if you want to go pro look elsewhere.

What's great about it: Easy to use, great price
What's not so great: The LCD screen does not flip down to 90deg angle. does not rec. short videos.
I love this camera! It takes great pictures and it's easy to use. I'm very new to the DSLR cameras and I feel like a pro when I shoot with this camera! The only thing is I wish it was capable of recording short films. Although if it did it probably would cost more. Also the screen only flips up 90 degrees so you can take photos looking down at the camera and it also flips down 45 degrees so 90 degree angle is not available when looking up at the camera. Thats the only fault that I could find. ALL AROUND A GREAT BUY!

The picture quality from this camera is top notch. I've had several camera's before and by far this is the best to date. I know there's better camera's out there but for a regular guy taking a fair amount of regular pictures this is perfect for me.

I have been looking into buying a bigger and better camera so i looked into every Dslr in the market that was in my price range. I finally for some reason

What's great about it: Live view, tilt LCD screen, Good instruction manual, long battery life
What's not so great: Can't think of a negative thing.
It uses compact flash memory which is a little more expensive, but (to me) saves quicker than SD. I have really enjoyed this camera. I really have enjoyed this camera after using it for about 7 months. I originally planned on purchasing a Canon or Nikon. But this camera had more bang for the buck.

What's great about it: Easy use, enough features to blow up your head, great 10 MP quality, wide range of modes, and more.
What's not so great: I don't get why they would even put this question here!
I have had thisgreat camera for a little over half a year now, and it has gone above and beyond all of my expectations! The pictures are great, the battery life is long, durable, and stlyish! The camera also features a lavish array of features for people from the trained professional to the inexperienced novice. What also makes it a great camera are the great quality lenses with reasonable zoom. Overall wonderful, but, as with any cool high-tech thingy, BUY EXTENDED WARENTIES!

My father owns the Canon equivalent to the Alpha 300, I wasn't impressed with this camera because of the lack of features on the Canon. So I did some research on the Sony, read some reviews, all of the customer reviews that I read were all good. So I thought that I would go into Best Buy and talk to the sales guy in the Camera dept. I guess because of personal preferance he tried to talk me out of buying the Sony and go with the Nikon. I ended up buying the Sony, let me tell you, this is the best camera that I have ever owned. For the price, the Nikon and the Canon don't compare. The live view with tilting display make life easy when your using a tripod. The picture quality is unbelievable! I'm a big fan of Black and White photos, so to have that feature on the camera instead of having to mess with photo software was a big selling point for me. Did I mention you can't beat the price! Can't wait to go on vacation and finally get the shots I want but couldn't because I didn't have a good camera.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Great pictures. Makes even me look like a pro
What's not so great: I am not a pro and not entirely sure what I am doing. Fortunately, it has an Auto setting.
Camera takes awesome pictures. I had other Sony, Panasonic, and Sanyo point and shoot cameras (I like cameras), but this one takes the best pictures of them all. I would say it is equally good as my old Olympus 35mm (which I loved). Actually, it is better because you can use the Live View whereas that wasn't an option for the 35mm.
It has a lot of advanced features that I need to learn as I make this a real hobby. But key point is, Pictures of my kids, action or stills, all look as good as they could be.
Battery life is long lasting, multi photo shot feature is pretty quick. Auto focus is really good. Can't complain about anything except my skills in not being able to take advantage of all the features it has to offer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is our first DSLR or SLR at that. This is a wonderful camera that is easy to use and takes beautiful crisp clear pictures. Catches fast action shots. Wish the zoom was a little bigger though and it is a little on the heavy side but this is alot of camera so no big deal. Great DSLR for the money!

What's great about it: Takes old Minolta AF lenses, easy to use and understand, live view feature

Got this camera as my first DSLR. I've used lots of different SLR's through the years, and they've always beat point and shoots hands down. Now with the Sony DSLR, life just got even easier. The camera is easy to figure out, and fast to respond. I purchased the camera with the Sony 70-300mm zoom lens from Best Buy for $649 in a package deal, and it was a great investment. No regrets at all. I really love being able to choose b/w photos or color photos without having to change film.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Well made camera great features that other more expensive cameras do not offer
What's not so great: I cant think of anything negative to say about this camera.
I bought this camera along with the 55-300 telephoto zoom lens about 1 year ago. This DSLR offers more features than the competition within the same rice range. It offers an LCD screen that can be angled up or down to help you take pctures for which you may not have been ablee to take because the subject is either to low or you need to take a picture over someones head. it offers 10.2 megapixle and you can shoot at ISO 3200 the other 10.2 megapixle cameras stop at ISO1600. It takes great night shoots. The camera comes with software that allows you to touch up pictures and change the brightness, color saturation or change it to sepia or b&w. The only request I would ask of Sony if they were to try to improve this camera is to offer ISO 6400 a feature that I have only seen on DSLR cameras that are twice as expensive as this Sony. Overall You will not be disappointed in the least If you purchase this camera.

this is my first DSLR Camera and never stop takin pictures since... everything is user friendly... the camera itself is durable the most important thing is...you can take pictures like a professional... from the B/W, moving object capture to Night Shot effects.... i was really surprised with the night shot effect... it let took pictures clearly at night even without the use of a flash... and there's sooooo many function that you'd be surprised everytime you use it...
I guarantee you... get a Sony A300! this camera is worth every penny!!!!

Long time digital camera user, first time DSLR owner. I am amazed at how quickly the camera focuses. For the first time, I am able to quickly take pictures of birds in flight. I am amazed at the quality and detail of the pictures.
I feel honored to be part of the DSLR revolution and fortunate to get a deal like I did from Best Buy - $649 for the body, plus two lenses - 18-70mm AND 75mm - 300mm.
The camera also has a 2x feature that allows you to take the 300mm lens and turn it into 600mm.
Fully automatic this camera does well. I took the camera birding and got a lot of brilliant and beautiful pictures. Despite taking the pictures in a bumpy van with dirty windows (I was with a group of people that drove around looking at birds), I got crisp clear shots. I had to do some tweaking in software, but it was fun to watch the pictures come to life and look like something out of a magazine!
I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone who wants to get into photography on a whole new level. Start with automatic and begin learning all that it can do. I was determined to take the camera out on a birding assignment within 12 hours of taking the camera out of the box and was very pleased with the results.

I just bought this camera and I am very happy about it. The photos are far better than my SONY p/s camera. This is my first DSLR camera and I am using 2GB CF card. For some reason, the camera is loud every time I take a shot. I sincerely don't know why. Other than that, it's a great camera for the money.

I received this camera as a Christmas gift and I was initially intimidated. My previous cameras were all point & shoots. In the past, several of my pictures came out blurry & off colored. I have a hard time holding the camera sturdy. With this camera's combination of the automatic settings and the Super Steady Shot Switch--all the pictures are crisp & clear. The quick guide helped me get acquainted with the basic camera features. The instruction manual is concise and easy to follow--even as a reference guide. I no longer need my older cameras--I guess I'll give them to the grandkids. I can't believe the pictures. If you are in the market for a quality DSLR--buy this one.

What's great about it: This camera is just terrific. You truly cannot take a bad picture with it.
What's not so great: Not as small as the tiny compact pocket size ones, don't let that stop you.
This camera was great right out of the box. I can't stop using it. My fear was that it was going to feel big compared to my little cannon that I was used to but that never even entered my mind once this was in my hand. Auto everything, great clarity, and what I never had with the compact ones is that it's fast! No more missing the good shots because your camera decides to "think" a bit.
Bought mine at best buy and got a case which came with an extra battery and I bought more memory obviously. Do yourself a favor and get this camera, you will not be disappointed. I love it!

This has been hands down the best camera i have ever used. I have been a fan of canon cyber shot until i purchased my first DSLR. I no longer have to wait with my finger on the shot button for the action to happen. This has been one of the fastest reacting camera i have ever used. Anyone still using cybershot cameras need to step up to a DSLR. You won't regreat doing so. the images are far better then any Canon I used in years past, I have owned over 4 differant Canon cybershot cameras. You get pro pictures with the optics on the Sony DSLR.

Bought this camera last week at my local best buy store in Brandon for $599.98 which included a 75 - 300 mm lens that normally costs $299. This was a great package deal. Took that camera out this past weekend and just snapped away till I had over 150 pictures in the box. Brought it home and downloaded (3 minutes) all to my laptop. Every single picture was in focus and color was perfect.
My other camera is a Fuji S9000 that I have taken over 5000 pictures with. I came home on many occasions and was disappointed because the pictures were out of focus or were too dark or washed out in light.
Only issues I have is the flash shoe does not allow my flash to be installed but there is an adapter for around $20 on ebay that will allow it to be used. Also, I like to take pictures on the tripod but with a shutter release cable. This camera does not allow use of this cable.
Again, the pictures were excellent quality, camera is easy to use, value is outstanding for this camera as long as you get the kit like I did. Already recommending this camera to my friends. You cannot go wrong with this one.
