What's great about it: Easy to setup and great fun for the whole family
What's not so great: Guitar not compatable with GH3

"RB2 is just a great game for the whole family!

Lets start with the positives.

- GH guitars work with the RB2, nice of RB to add that compatability. (wasdisappointed to find out RB2 not working w/GH3)
- "No Fail" mode makes it great for people to enjoy no matter the age or skill.
- Equipment good quality. Guitar feels better made and better quality than GH guitar.
- Ability to do Local Tour with one player
- Online World Tour
- Slew of songs to purchase and DL through the store
- Very customizable characters (unlike GH)
- Guitar Fret buttons and strum much smoother and quieter than my GH one.
- Backward compatable with ability to bring over your RB1 songs for small price ($5).

I could really keep going with the great things about this game and setup.

Now for the few Cons.

- Songs get repetative during the local tour. Played the same song at too many different venues and gigs.
- Mic not wireless, everything else is.
- Not compatable with GH3 or GHWT (but I think this is the makers of GH)
- Mic stand would be nice

Not much else to complain about without being rediculous.

Overall a Great game and a very fun activity to have for any party and age!!"

What's great about it: Easy set up and right out of box a 37 yr old and a 9 yr old were jamm'n
What's not so great: Lack of ability to down load songs via the PC, only allowed through PS3 network.

"Easy and ready to be used right out of the box. Son and I could not have had more fun. Parts were all there and worked rigt away. I did a fair amount of research on RB2 and GHWT and I can't say I tried the GH game, but this one seems the best."

"the only thing that i didnt like about this game was the price of the bundle i thought it was too pricy for 190 but its still a good game i love the game and i play it all the time i like how in the bundle you get free downloads that is a good thing hopefully everyone has a chance to play this game"

What's great about it: The perfection of Rock Band

"Harmonix stated that Rock Band 1 was the innovation, and Rock Band 2 is the perfection. Well... I would say that's about right.

The instruments have received updates which was really needed.
1.The drums now have a silicone rubber head which allows quieter hits with greater bounce back. The drums are also velocity-sensitive which means the harder you hit them, the louder the noise in game. That feature is very cool when free-styling or jamming out in drum fills. The kick pedal is also updated with a metal plate for reinforcement. The drums also have cymbal expansion ports where you can customize your drum kit. (Cymbals now available.)
2. The guitar has been updated a bit as well. It has an automatic calibration camera built in, which makes calibration easier than ever. It has quieter fret buttons as well as strum bar. The overall guitar feels a lot tougher than the old one and is a bit heavier.
Both are now wireless!!!
3. The mic is still the same... lame

The songs available are great and you can port I believe 52 of the 55 original rock band songs from RB1 for $4.99! So if you don't have Rock Band 1, rent it and export the songs to Rock Band 2! This gives you an automatic library of 136 songs! Then, you get 20 free downloadable in a few weeks!

Overall, I am very please with Rock Band 2. It is more of a game update, but it really does give you all the features that you wished Rock Band 1 had."

What's great about it: Drums work much better than RB1, guitar is more quiet

"For the person who said the instruments are exactly the same you obviously haven't played the new RB2. The drums are much more sensitive and the guitar is more quiet. Online play has been improved greatly, overall it's worth getting if you don't already have the instruments from RB1. The drums are a must have, if you have the old guitar it wouldn't be worth buying the new one."

What's great about it: It is a little bit stronger and it will hold more hours worth of game usage.
What's not so great: Its exactly like the first rock band when it comes down to the instruments.

"Ok so I kept hearing how great the new Rock Band was going to be and how this one was going to have better things. The game yes! The instruments... NO! I ended up buying Rock Band 2 (the whole thing) thinking it would replace my current one and I would love it. Boy did I waste 204 (with taxes) for nothing. Its the same exact thing only that the guitar has different design. They said it has this and that but the reality of things is that its the exact same thing. The game I do recommend. It has better music, better options, if one member fails it wont make you fail,etc. If you were thinking of buying rock band 2 with the instruments and game all over again thinking it would be different... DONT! Just buy the game. Dont make the same mistake I made. If you dont have the original Rock Band then you can buy this one and you'll be happy. I expected a lot more but I ended up being dissapointed."

What's great about it: better songs and difficulty metter.

"Barely a year has passed since the infiltration of plastic guitars, drums, and microphones into our living rooms under the guise of a video game, and already Electronic Arts and Harmonix are ready to release their full-blown sequel.

It's an amazing feat considering the weekly updates to the original game that are still ongoing, and even more of a feat considering that the Wii version of Rock Band was released only a few months ago.

With all this work being done on the current iteration of the game, it leads one to wonder: How much work could have possibly been done for Rock Band 2?

Rock Band 2's cosmetic changes are immediately noticeable. Flashier start screens, improved loading screens, better character animations, and video effects. Other changes are a bit subtler. The most appreciated changes come in multiplayer.

Characters are now universal across all instruments. Just because you were holding a guitar in your hand when you created your avatar does not mean they are obligated to stay rooted to that instrument. Any character you create becomes a musical savant with the ability to play any instrument placed before them.

The whole process of getting a group of people together pantomiming music has simply become easier. It has even become less intimidating to newcomers thanks to the implementation of the "no fail mode." That guy who insists on playing drums despite a sharp learning curve will no longer prevent you from succeeding.

That same guy will also notice the drums have been toned down slightly. The easy setting is now exactly that, while the harder settings provide a challenging and surprisingly realistic representation of drumming.

Harmonix has always had a knack for finding the right balance between fun and challenge and Rock Band 2 is no exception.

Clarity gained in multiplayer, though, is lost in single player. Playing songs unlocks new cities, which unlocks new venues within those cities, which unlocks new challenges, which unlocks the ability to hire a merch girl (huh?), which allows you to replay songs to earn twice the money but fewer fans — or something.

The single player serves to unlock songs to be played in multiplayer, and that is all it will ultimately be used for.

The music in Rock Band 2 is varied. Few will like all the songs, but many will find at least one song they absolutely love ("Psycho Killer" from The Talking Heads is a prime example).

Overall, Rock Band 2 does very little to evolve the genre. In fairness though, the plastic guitar rhythm game genre has evolved very little since the original Guitar Hero released in 2005 (or since Konami's GuitarFreaks in 1999, if you want to get technical).

The game feels less like Rock Band 2 and more like Rock Band 1.5, a sacrifice that had to be made by the developers in order to allow downloaded music to be playable in both Rock Band and Rock Band 2.

Considering the sheer volume of downloadable content available for the original game (three to five new songs every week over the course of a year), it's a sacrifice that any Rock Band fan will be happy to make.

If you do not have the original Rock Band already, skip to the second one and get ready to have one of the best console multiplayer experiences ever. If you do have Rock Band already, there's no reason not to invest in Rock Band 2.
