Well, people, I have this TV for 6 days now. The saying "Seeing is Believing" used to be a true statement but not anymore. Because even though I'm seeing the picture on this TV, I'm not believing my eyes!!!!!!!!! And you won't either. The sharpness and color is absolutely beautiful and that's right out of the box. I didn't have to adjust anything. And forget about watching a Blu-ray DVD. You just might lose your mind altogether, like I did! I rented the blu-ray DVD, Alvin and the Chipmunks. OMG!!!!! I could have sworn I even saw fleas on those critters!! (LOL) I love everything about this TV. I bought it when it was on sale and even then, it was still a bit pricey. But this is the smartest purchase I ever made. I have no regrets at all. I looked and looked for months and did a lot of research on line. I couldn't have settled on a more perfect TV because there isn't one out there. If you are looking for an LCD TV, don't pass this one up. That would be a really foolish thing to do!!
What's great about it: THE PICTURE WILL KNOCK YOU OUT!
What's not so great: NEVER WANT TO LEAVE MY LIVING ROOM NOW!!!

I OWN A TOTAL OF 5 SAMSUNG HD LCD'S. I HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON HD LCD'S AS A WHOLE. IN MY OPINION IS BY FAR THE
BEST MANUFACTURER OF HD LCD'S.
IN REGARDS TO THE LN-A950 THE NEW TECHNOLOGY ( A CONTRAST RATIO OF 1,000,000 TO ONE) ELEVATES VIEWING OF HD TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. THE AMAZING PICTURE QUALITY GIVES YOU THE THE SENSE THAT CHARACTERS APPEAR AS IF YOU CAN REACH OUT AND TOUCH THEM. SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT.OF NOTE INCLUDES 18 MONTH PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY. ALL THE ABOVE IS FOR THE OUT OF BOX DEFAULT SETTINGS. IMAGE WHAT THE PICTURE QUALITY WITH CUSTOMIZATION OF SETTING. RECOMMMEND WITHOUT RESERVATION. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE.
What's great about it: CONTRAST RATIO OF 1,000,000 TO 1 & 1920 x 1080 pixels RESOLUTION
What's not so great: SO FAR NO NEGATIVES

I am about the pickiest person on earth. Ask anyone. I started out with a Sony Bravia z4100 LCD because it looked so good in the store and was reasonably priced, on sale. Its a very nice looking TV, slim bevel, matte screeen... and the picture looked pretty good in the store. It was one of the few TVs hooked up to its own Blu-ray player... so the picture was probably as good as it was going to get. Compare that with most of the other TVs in the store which are connected to a split and amplified source.. the end result really sacrificing the picture quality. Once I got the Bravia home I was less impressed with the picture. It seemed to be washed out, especially at angle, noisy, and just generally leaving me wanting for more. I tried PS3 blu-ray, HD cable sources, and SD sources. I tweaked it six ways from Sunday, but in the end I was still not completely happy with it. So I started reading more reviews (and BTW I had done my homework on the Bravia). I figured that I was going to have to spend more to get what I wanted. This led me to the Samsung 950. After scouring the web for every available review, I went to the local Best Buy and checked out the 55" they had on display. They had some lame fish tank Blu-ray playing that really didn't look that great, so at first I was skeptical. The sales reps all seemed to be busy, so I was the only person in the Magnolia home theater area. I found the connected blu-ray player underneath and went searching for and eventually found another true blu-ray disk in another player. It was the movie Ice Age. When I popped that in my eyes just about popped out of the sockets. The picture was like "reality" but 2D of course. I watched it for while to make sure it was for real. I went home again and did a little more research. The next day I went and bought it. I've had it for one night and I am simply amazed at the difference between this and the Sony. Don't get me wrong the Sony is a pretty good TV, but not in this league. Yes, I paid a good bit more for the 950... but its worth every cent. The off-angle viewing is excellent despite the cnet review saying different. The only negatives on this TV would be the built-in speakers (a non-issue for me since I have dedicated sound system), the remote, and the aspect ratio options. The remote looks strange and the wheel is not that effective for scrolling and is awkward to use. The last thing is that the aspect ratio for certain sources doesn't support zoom. I sometimes like to zoom in on movies displayed wide but have black space top and bottom (like "cinemascope", e.g. 2.4:1). You miss some of the picture when zoomed, but not a lot. Anyway, so far those are my only gripes. Though its called TOC (touch of color) I really don't see any color in the bevel, though it could be slimmer. The picture is worth the extra money. Its superb. I'm really amazed and very happy.
What's great about it: picture, picture, picture and picture
What's not so great: sound, remote, zoom and aspect ratio options

I have been a die hard Sony products user in the past and believe them to be superior and worth the price. I had not yet purchased a large screen TV, but started doing my research as my Sony tube TV started to bite the bullet. I was leaning toward purchasing a Sony XBR8 until I ran across the specifications on this TV. When I went and looked at the TV's at best buy I was blown away by this TV. The Sony was just a bit better than the Samsung, but I could not justify the difference in price between them versus the difference in picture and features. With the LED backlighting you attain some great black levels and contrast. Match this up with a good Samsung Blu Ray player and let the fun begin. You will be blown away by the realism and picture quality of this TV. I have had this TV for about 2 months and could not be more happy with my purchase. You will not be unhappy with your decision to buy this TV!
What's great about it: Picture, Black Levels, Contrast, Feature Set
What's not so great: Little Pricey

I beleive there is an error in the bb description of this series. What
sets them apart is the new LED backlighting rather than a flourescent
CCL. Not both as indicated in the description.
This makes this comparable to the new Sony XBR8's and why these
are significantly more expensive. Of course in the next model year or two,
most of the sets will have LED backlighting which allows for blacker blacks, better areas of selective contrast and more even backlighting.

I have been looking to "trade-up" from my 32" 1080i Dell tv that I got about 3 years ago and have been reading anything and everything I could get my hands on in way of research. It finally came down to this....the Sony XBR8 or the Samsung 950 series are by far the top of the class. I did more research on both sets...and it seemed that they two were very comparable. LED backlight, check. 120Hz refresh rate, yup that too....so what's the difference?!? oh yeah the Sony costs about twice as much!!! honestly the Sony is a tad better, but literally a tad (ie 4.9 versus 4.8 on a scale of 5) and for three grand I would save I went with the samsung. Let me tell you that boy am I happy with this set! you will not be dissapointed!!!!
What's great about it: Breath-taking picture, amazing contrast, ridiculous amount of features/options
What's not so great: A tad expensive (for a tv)

This TV changes the media experience. The ability to combine PQ with 3-D depth is incredible. When you're watching it feels like you are on the live set of the taping. Blu-ray's finally reach their full potential when you have a TV that display this kind of detail. A must own for enthusiasts in my opinion.

What's not so great: Nothing

I've waited a while for this TV after reading some reviews on the internet. When it became available, I rushed out to Best Buy to purchase it. I have absolutely no regrets about my decision and in fact, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
The picture looks awesome. There are a lot of fine detail settings for advanced users that want the best color profiles. You can disable the 120Hz motion blur feature if it bothers you (I personally turned it off because motion looked fake when HD signals were viewed through my TiVo).
I highly recommend this TV to anyone who can afford it.
What's great about it: Great picture, great design, good picture detail controls, lots of HDMI inputs, LED-backlit
What's not so great: Expensive, takes a while to turn on and detect input changes from AV receiver

I seen this firsthand at BestBuy thought it was great. I also re reviewed the a850 which is also an excellent TV. I don't consider myself an professional TV viewer for the average Joe can't see spending that extra cash for the 950. The 850 is an excellent choice itself. What I was sold by the Sales Rep on the 950 was that it had an awesome black or real black compared to the trim; no grey. If that is the only difference, then I will stay with the 850. However, if you are a real love of tech, then the 950 is for you.
What's great about it: Superb Picture
What's not so great: Very Pricey

For those that don't know, LaserVue tv is coming and made by Mitsubishi. It will be out in October or November. It won't be a flat panel, but instead a rear projection tv. Picture is supposed to be unbelievable but will probably be very pricey. This tv has the best picture of any lcd or plasma tv out there and it's only 4 1/2" thick. A great tv if LaserVue tv is not a real option.
What's great about it: best picture available now, 120hz refresh rate, added features

Every year a new piece of technology comes out and makes last year's equipment outdated. Well, I had just bought the 81f (last year's top model) and then came across this beauty in the store. Why did I choose this tv?
1. I will put my money towards a Samsung product any day. Sony products look nice, but you end up paying more for the name.
2. The tv can render images that you might think can only be done with 120mhz refresh, but yet somehow this tv with the 120 turned off still renders amazing views.
3. The tv can reach black levels that no other lcd can. Given, there are new lcds coming in a month or more that will compete and they will boast a 200mhz or greater refresh rate. But, they will cost at least 1k more.
4. I am not a big fan of the 120 mhz refresh rate, but since I can turn it off and have near Plasma tv like imagery, I find myself more than happy with this tv. Also, the 120 and above refresh rates really bother my eyes. It might sound odd, but I can catch the tv while it does that and it bothers me for some reason. Given, 120 allows for some amazing images, it just is not for me.
To summarize my poorly written review, I must say that this is the best tv out there right now. The other televisions that will soon be arriving stateside will boast the same tech and might have some shiny new gadgets, but from what I have seen from IFA this is going to be in the top three list for tvs in 2008-2009.
One last thing. The pre-loaded content and the RSS feeds are nice but not noteworthy. Buy this tv for its' amazing picture quality and great technology.
What's great about it: The tv itself is stunning. The picture quality is equal to that of even the new Pioneer Kuro.
What's not so great: A bit pricy, but considering the soon to come competition, this tv is going to be a bargain.
