What's great about it: High quality scanning.
What's not so great: Template doesn't handle Realist format stereo slides.
Great for photographs and 2" X 2" slides.
Cumbersome for scanning Realist format stereo slides. This will affect extremely few users.

What's great about it: Quality, price
What's not so great: Speed
I bought this scanner to get rid of my old slides. They were all very damaged and some had the color washed out or problems with wrong exposure.
But, thanks to this scanner function of removing dirty and scratches, they became perfect! This saved me hours of post editing on Photoshop or some other program.
It takes 4 slides at a time, or one negative stripe at once. The result with negatives were great too!
The only thing that is not that good about it is the speed. Not that slow, but it could be faster.
I really recommend this product. The price is low for such quality.

What's great about it: Good scans and price
What's not so great: Slow (but tolerable)
I bought this so that I could go through about 3500 old negatives from my pre-digital days. I have such a huge number of old photos, nearly all piled away in boxes, that no one ever gets to look at them since all viewing these days is done on computer, and opening box after box is just way too inconvenient.
Anyway, the first day after getting it, I had gone through about 125 of the negatives. Then, I smelled a slight burning smell and wasn't sure what it was, but continued with the next set of negatives. Uh oh! That time, every image had a big red blurry line across them. Fortunately, it was easy to return at the store so I did, although I did have to wait a few more days for the replacement since this is not an item that Best Buy actually has in the stores.
Once I received the replacement, I have done about 1000 of the negatives so far without that problem again. Overall, the scans come out very well. Not perfect; I'd prefer if they scanned darker since I heavily used a polarizer for outdoor scenery and it keeps thinking that it needs to brighten them up for me. Although, that problem can be mostly corrected manually using photo-editing software.
The default settings that the scanner scans film with were almost perfect. I did a few tweaks to increase the resolution, which only results in a minor improvement. The loading of the film is reasonable, not as fast as I'd like it, but reasonable, unlike other devices out there like this silly little photo scanner you may have seen at Brookstone (tried it, horrible, returned it).
Once I got the rhythm down (lift flatbed cover, remove the negative holder from it, place holder on table, open negative holder, remove film strip from it, put new film strip on it, close negative holder, place negative holder back on flat bed, close flat bed lid, press button), it probably takes me about 30 seconds to remove one negative strip and put the next one in. The rest of the time is waiting for the scans, which considering the entire process ends up being just slightly faster than one photo per two minutes. A strip of 4 takes me 7 minutes total, so about 45 minutes for a 24-picture roll of film. I do wish it was faster, although I don't know if there are any suitable alternatives that would be faster. But, I am making progress and I tend to do other things on the computer anyway in between swapping negative strips.
The only other minor comment I have about the scan quality is that some of my negatives are heavily curled at the edges, and not really anything I can do about that. The negative holder doesn't flatten them out all that well, so some photos have a bowing effect at the edges since it scanned negatives that were curving. The holder does try to hold them flat but it isn't perfect at it; I'm not sure what they could have done though to design it to make every curved negative completely flat.
Oh, and initial installation was a breeze, better than any other scanner or printer I have ever dealt with. Just do what it says to install from CD, then connect scanner, and you're done. No crashes, no faults on Windows shutdown or anything nasty like that.

What's great about it: The quality of the scanned negatives and slides.
What's not so great: I know it takes time to do this but what else can you expect.
I've scanned over 350 negatives so far and this thing works great. It saved me alot of money. I had single negatives that a local photo place wanted 3 dollars each to scan.

What's great about it: Price/performance, ease of use
What's not so great: It's a little large.
For the price, this scanner can't be beat. Easy to set up, includes a transparency holder for negatives and slides, Epson software is not too bloated or wacky, works quickly, results are solid.
If you don't need to scan negatives or film, drop down a notch to the V30; the internals are the same, but it has no transparency holder.
Great item.

I purchased this scanner 2 months ago. The images had 2 lines running through them. I called customer service and they had me send it back to be replaced. Customer service was excellent, the replacement arrived in 3 days. The replacement has been working great and I'm very satisfied. I needed a scanner for old documents, negatives, slides, and photos from my parents estate. This scanner is affordable, easy to use and works for most of the items that I need scanned. The images come out great.

What's not so great: none yet
When it arrived I had it scanning in about 15 minutes. My slides are about 30 to 40 years old. They came out beautiful, if you take the time to remove the dust. I have about 1000 slides from around the world when I was in the Army. I am very pleased with the Epson V300.

What's great about it: Reasonably quick scans and great image quality.
What's not so great: Doesn't handle larger format negatives.
This scanner is doing a fantastic job scanning my 35 mm negative and slide collection. It's reasonably fast and the scanning quality is first rate.
If there was one thing I'd add to the features, it would be another film holder that would handle 2/14 X 2/14 and larger negatives.
I like it!

What's great about it: A quality scanner at a value price.
What's not so great: There is no option to rotate alternate pages for document scanning.
I was replacing my Plustek Optibook and several people had recommended the V300 to me. I ordered online from BestBuy.com, and the scanner arrived promptly. Several of the features are very handy for document scanning, however instant updated preview isn't an option. Within a couple days the scanner lamp developed a couple of red lines, after a call to customer service, the scanner was deemed defective and a replacement was sent right out. I was given the option of returning my defective unit to my local Best Buy and this worked out great for me. My replacement scanner showed up within a week and has about 20 hours on it A quality scanner at a value price.

This is my fifth scanner. Never before have I ever had one that made the pictures look like reflections in a Fun House Mirror.
Unacceptable elongation of image. No response from Epson support!
Don't purchase unless you want everyone in your scanned pictures to look 30 pounds lighter.

What's great about it: A fabulous and easy-to-use scanner for the price
What's not so great: scanned photos are categorized in date order, not order that I scanned them
I purchased this scanner for the sole purpose of scanning all my photo albums. It has been outstanding. I scan 5 phots at a time and it makes each photo a separate file, rather than a collage that I have to cut apart. I can even set it to correct old or scratched pictures. Sure, I wish it could be a little quicker, but the results are worth the extra second or two it may take. If you're looking for a high-quality scanner, this is it!

What's great about it: Quality, speed, price.
What's not so great: Nothing to mention.
Epson V300 is best of five different products tried! Great value to anyone!
We have about 2000 family photos to scan and download.
My research indicates this scanner works well, user friendly, priced right, and thus far am very pleased with initial scanning and copying results!
Have a question for tech minded if permissible.
My Epson Perfection V300 Scanner Question:
To begin my project, and end with the best results, using the HOME MODE, what format will give the best printing results when using 300 or 600, or other dpi in all scans, and downloading to my computers Picasa for cropping and editing?
Target sizes;
Original: with the marquee or without the marquee?
Or, use a target size of 4 x 6, 5 x 7, or other size?
Or 4:3 format, to make uniform pictures for burning DVD slide shows.
In my scan/print tests, original seems to be clearest, but 4 x 3 is largest file size?
1) original; 1541 x 1162, 584 kb
2) 4 x 6; 1594 x 1194, 551 kb
3) 4 x 3; 2395 x 1796, 1.16 MB
4) 5 x 7; 1998 x 1498, 804 kb
Your thoughts please, CO.

What's great about it: so far, i find this scanner is top knotch
What's not so great: turns off for a reason i have yet to discover.
I love that this scanner holds my settings and doesnt default to factory settings.
It's very cool that i can scan one or all pic on the scanner bed and even adjust the color on each pic separately. i hesitated purchasing this scanner because of the way it opens. It felt like it opened sideways, but, with my setup system, it fit just fine. i havent tried the slide or neg features yet, but i have high hopes, seeing as how good everything else is.
And all for a very reasonable price.
i dont like that this scanner turns off for no reason..im not sure if it heats up because, in a while i can turn it back on and continue my project.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, great price, awesome quality, easy to use
What's not so great: Nothing! It's perfect!
I just got this and bought it based on reviews, price and capabilities. PERFECT! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to scan negatives and create fantastic photos.
I kept all my negatives, thankfully, as I had thrown away many photos over the years - who knew one day we'd be able to scan, email and post on Facebook!
Very easy to set up USE THE CD since the program to crop, highlight and enhance the negatives is in the accompanying program. It did not slow down my computer at all!
I was scanning within minutes and emailed a friend the photo I had lost years ago of his deceased partner. With this fantastic scanner, he lives on!!
The accompanying photo is from another 24 year old uncared for negative. It looks like it was taken yesterday and that little girl is all grown up!
Completely satisfied!!!
