What's great about it: solid build, price, good looks, battery life, FM radio, sound and video quality, ...
What's not so great: creating library every time when turning it on takes forever.

"This is a great mp3 player with an FM tuner. With Sony's name, the quality of the product is assumed. I've tried iPod nano at the store, and the sound of the sony player seems to be better than that of the nano. Although it is tiny, it also feels more solid than the nano. The 2" screen is amazing to play videos. I've downloaded some TV news programs on it, and the videos are shown with great clarity. It is also very intuitive and thus easy to use. When I first got it, I absolutely loved it. I have owned it for a week.

I can list a lot of great things about this player, like others who own this player already. However, the one con I found so far is making me having thoughts about returning it. That is, every time you turn the unit on, it does not go to the main menu right away. In stead, it shows a screen with a message "Creating Library" and you cannot get away from it. Some times it takes more than half a minute to a minute for the player to create library. It may not sound long, but given that it happens every time you turn the unit on or it comes back from standby, the wait can be excrutiating. I swear some times I think it is going to stay at the creating library screen forever. I understand after syncing the librarys the player needs to sort things out internally, but every time you turn it on? It is a bit stupid to say the least.

Honestly I am surprised nobody is picking on this in the other reviews, so maybe I just got a lemon. Just my 2 cents. Hope my review helps."

"This product to me is easier then the I-POD i used to use, I looked at as many reviews I could handle and still was undecided at purchase time, but
I'M SO HAPPY WITH EASE of use compared to I-pod I have used it a couple of times and have had no problems with battery life holds good in cold when snowboarding buttons are easy to feels with light gloves on overall it's a great product and would buy another one even if it broke and was out of warrenty"

"I really like this Mp3 Player tis is the first MP3 player I have owned I bought it for Christmas for my husband and he really loves it. It's really small and I'm kind of scared it might break. I bought the case for it the only thing is that the case they show online is not the one they give you at the store. The case at the store has foam buttons painted on the front and it only show the screen I don't really care too much for the case itself. I would highly recommend this product to other people. I got it on sale but I would have definately paid the full price for it. It's still a good deal..."

What's great about it: 2" LCD is awesome quality
What's not so great: Does not use Windows Media ratings

"I just got this player a couple of days ago and really love it so far. I have started ripping my CDs and sync'ing and haven't had too many problems.

Good things -
1) The 2" display is remarkable
2) Sync;s with Windows Media player (now I can clean off the music from the work pc)
3) Small (smaller than a deck of cards) - but heavy enough to find it easy
4) Rechargable battery from USB connection
5) JPG picture viewing is also great

Not so good things -
1) No ratings selection like with the PC Windows Media Player (however will accept Windows Media Player playlists)
2) When downloading video have to have the player connected to convert media to correct format prior to syncing
3) Some album art did not download with the first try (this was a slight annoyance)"

What's not so great: the screen can scratch very easily so get a case for it

"It is a very good mp3 player. The headphones are very loud so you can jam away! the screen will scratch very easily so get a case and be careful with it. But i love everything about it. it holds a lot of songs, pics, and videos. i would highly recommend this product to a friend."

What's great about it: you can easily drag and drop songs from itunes
What's not so great: cant rate songs, like the ipods "my top rated" playlist

"Product is awesome, You rarely have to charge i have never had an electronic device that needed this small an amount of charging. Small, its almost to light to break when dropped, I've accidentally done it twice and its fine and came up with out a scratch plus its light enough where if you are wearing the earphones and drop it, it will just dangle from your earphones.

Great for the gym because of the fm tuner, you can tune into the tv stations audio.

I use my own earphones and potentially you could buy one the other versions they have on the sony website with fancy earphones include, but this one is really all you need.

way better than ipod, for price, fm tuner, batterey life. plus the ease of use is tomatoes tomatoes."

What's great about it: Simple, right out the box. sound is great! Video looks good!
What's not so great: It's so small I think I might break it!

"Very easy to use, screen is clear and bright. Sound is top notch on music and video. The FM tuner came in loud and clear and was simple to set up also. Love the fact the if you have Vista or XP you just simply plug n play.

You will need a AVI to MPeg converter(you can download free ones) for movies in AVI format. Once converted, they load up and play just fine! :)

I got this to replace my Rio Sport that I lost. Very nice Sony."

"I replaced my 8 gig Sansa View with the Sony, I was on my 2nd Sansa the first one just locked up one day and wouldn't reboot, reset or turn on. I decided to search around and found the Sony. So far it is a great player, the ear buds leave a lot to be desired, bought a replacement set and they aren't the greatest either. The Sony Website so far lacks any real support, like forums or updated firmware but no big deal the player works fine as it is. If you are looking for a great player avoid Sansa and go with the Sony, not only will you save $20 but you'll have a better player. I use mine for music only, for in the car and at work. Video isn't important and could probably knock a few bucks if video was scrapped."

What's not so great: 4-way control pad is a little cramped, no bookmarking feature

"You can't beat this player for the money. I primarily use it in the gym or when running so 8gb of space gives me plenty of variety for the types of music I can load on this thing. The 4-way directional pad seems a bit small, but that could just be because I have big hands. Also, it would've been nice to have a bookmarking feature for podcasts. All in all, this is an excellent player and I'm very happy with my purchase."

"My old Creative Zen finally went out on me after 5 years, by far one of the best mp3 players i have ever owned. I bought the 8gb Sony mp3 as a replacement. Its very small and has great sound quality. Its easy to place music in it, either drop and drag or use Windows Media Player. Things i didn’t like is that you cannot change or modify songs when its in the Mp3. When you go under Genre songs are not in alphabetical order make it really hard to find songs. Headphone output is at the bottom, horrible placement. After you download songs onto the MP3 player, when you disconnect it takes a while for it to load "Creating Playlist". You can only charge it through the computer, as best buy doesn’t have the wall charger for it. Few accessories available. Its pretty easy to use. When you fast forward a song its not as fast as i want it to be. A plus is that you can connect to any computer and it will not erase any songs without any additional software’s, unlike Ipod's. OVERALL its not as good as my non colored Zen, however for the price its a great choice."

"I liked my wife's ipod Nano (original small version from 3 years ago) but I didn't like the idea of being tied to itunes for $.99 a song. I read some reviews about the Walkman and tried the 4gb old version. Loved it. Joined Rhapsody and filled it within a few weeks. Needed to upgrade to 8GB. Price for 8GB dropped to $119 so for $35 more I could have 8 GB. Returned my 4GB and got this one. Actually liked the feel and look of the older version better, but now I have 8GB! I like the idea of renting music for $14.99/month rather than buying individual songs. Have about 600 songs on it now and still another 4GB to go. It also plays video but I am not that interested in that. If you want a killer MP3 player and plan to put your own music or use a rental service this is the unit for you. The only downside is that Sony has created only a limited number of accessories as compared to ipod. They only make 1 speaker docking station system for $179. I may end up getting it any way. You can use other systems but they won't charge the unit. Also long battery life! This thing just keeps on playing. They claim 45 hours. Haven't tested it yet.
Overall, love this unit!"

Rival to the Ipod 09/16/2008

What's great about it: Very portable, nice interface, amazing battery life, compatible with Windows
What's not so great: Can only hold Mp4 vids,

"To keep it simple, this is like the Ipod for a windows person. I use windows and the walkman automatically syncs with Media Player, and windows recognizes it well. I am not saying it will not work with macs, i have no experience with them, but I enjoy using this more than the Ipod.

It has a well laid out user interface, similar to that of mobile phones, and I think it looks great, as with most sony products. It has a very good battery life."
