What's great about it: good value for price, easy to use
What's not so great: lack of lifetime updates but knew that going into purchase
I read a lot of reviews about this GPS. Some good..some not so good. I took a chance and it has paid off. The accessory bundle that came with it was a huge help to get started with a GPS. As for use and setup, it was easy. I've been very impressed with this unit and would recommend.

I've been using this for more than a month and I'm very satisfied with it. It's very easy to use, has good features and this bundle with case and others is a good choise. Even if you're not familiar with using a GPS, you can just get used to this one in a few hours.

This is our second Garmin. It is lightweight and has great features. They are clear and concise and it makes it easy to get around.
This package came with everything we needed. I personally do not like the big clunky holder, but that is a back up for our second car.

The unit is good for finding major routes but seriously lacks the ability to find the best local routes. It takes the long way around just about anywhere you go no matter what setting you put it on. If I had paid it for it any way other than by rewards points through a supplier I would be very dissatisfied and would want my money back.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It has all the features I need to get where I need to go. The sand bag mount is great for grabbing it off the dash to hide under the seat.

We use these devices at work all the time. This set up gives you two chargers and a dash mount as well. With all these extras and the ease of use of this product. I would buy it again and again.

I got this GPS for use with road trips. I used it when I went to Atlanta this past weekend and it was right on the money. It got me everywhere I needed to go without any glitches. I am greatly pleased with it.

This system was purchased as a Christmas present for my son, so he would stop "borrowing" my Tom Tom. He claims that he really likes it, much better than my Tom Tom. He says it is easy to use and offers many more display options than Tom Tom. Exact lane indicator relieves the confusion when driving in multi highway connecting areas like those found in Atlanta. Kuddos to Garmin for making this well engineered product.

It's easy to program and easy to navigate. Directions are spoken clearly. It recalculates quickly when you opt for a different route. Street maps are accurate. Overall the directions provided are accurate. I am very pleased with this purchase. This is my first GPS. The only reason I didn't buy the model with the traffic alerts is that the service did not get good reviews and was found to be inaccurate more often than not.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's not so great: battery only lasts 2 hours or so. Only use in the car so no problem
I purchased a Tomtom in the $100 dollar range and hated it. Just too hard to use. Just got it home and played with it and could see this was not going to work for my wife. Me either for that matter. Returned it and got a Garmin 255w. Paid $79. at Best Buy and for the money is everything we needed. Easy to use. My wife loves it's ease of use. This is my second. Came home with the first and went online to upgrade the maps and it lost all maps in the process. Returned it and so far haven't tried the update. Have used it on a couple of 700 mi. and localy and for the money it's GREAT!
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Fast Satellite connect, Intuitive Interface, rerouting

Bought this gps a few days ago. Briefly, It works. It's pretty darn accurate. Plus it's easy to use.
But On the negative side, I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed that I can't upload custom routes with the PC software or even save 'via' points on the unit itself. Considering that is the ONLY major feature I'd want from any other unit, it seems unreasonable the lowest priced unit WITH that feature is twice as much as the one I bought. Because I've noticed some of the routes it gives me are not as desireable as the ones I already use. For instance while testing its ability to get me to work 35mi away, it takes me through the most heavily congested area near the mall instead of ONE turn .2 mi away from my house that saves me at least 15 minutes of traffic. No biggie if I could upload a preferred route. But I can't. So, yeah it'll get you there and probably save you alot of time wandering around in new places, But it seems a small thing to ask for custom routes to be available.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have the nuvi 760, purchased this as a gift for my (somewhat gadget illiterate) dad. First the good... initial power up found the satellites pretty quickly and have been stable since. After some poking and prodding, and a little coaching from me, he can now use all the search features fairly quickly and easily (POI or direct address input methods). The TTS is good, warns of turns several times before getting to and is plenty loud (even in his Jeep). Re-routes quickly and he really liked the Detour feature when we had to get around an accident at one point.
Maybe I'm a little spoiled, but the one thing that I don't really like about this unit is that the mini-usb style power connector from the car power supply plugs straight into the unit (the 760 has more of a "hotshoe" style connection).
All in all a good package featuring a good little GPS. If you don't need all the extras (although I love the sandbag mount) I would still say check out the 255 for a good, simple unit.

i love the garmin!!! have owned two tom toms and this is the best by far!!! 1. easy set up 2. big bright menu's 3. user friendly, not hard to figure out what is where 4. got it on sale, great price for what you get 5. the most important thing was that you can zoom in and out really easy and then when you do zoom out it shows the interstates and highways around you, not like the tom tom's over sensitive zoom that doesnt show you the highways and interstates when you zoom out, this garmin doesnt have lane assist BUT if you look at the top of the screen it shows you which lane to stay in anyways. AND lane assist is NOT offered every where, not even with tom tom it only works here and there so ill just take the arrows at the top of the screen for now, also doesnt have the live traffic update, but from what ive read isnt always that accurate, but you can get the traffic wire for $100 bucks thats the only difference between the 255W and 255WT. the txt to speech is nice it announces the street that is coming up to turn on, and at night it announces the street still but it still tells you to turn right/left so you shouldnt miss your turn.
6. recaculating is pretty fast about the same as tom tom
7. you CAN make your own itiniary by saving your points in your favorites just save one point at a time, and if you really need a specific address, you can go to google maps and map one address at a time, then click send and then save it to your gps plug it in and its saved to your gps under favorites, then you can catagorize it!!!
the con: the battery life doesnt seem to last too long, but for me thats cool cause it will just get plugged into my car.

What's great about it: Turns on immediately, clear voice, frequent directions
What's not so great: USB cable doesn't come with unit
My previous Garmin was stolen and I replaced it with a Tom Tom which I really didn't care for that much but it got me by until last weekend when I had to go to a wedding at a ski lodge in Park City. The Tom Tom directed me to a location miles from the lodge in the middle of nowhere! Yesterday I purchased another Garmin and breathed a sigh of relief. Everything about the Garmin is great with the exception of having to purchase a USB cable to download updates.
I would recommend this to a friend!
