What's great about it: Great replacement product and easy to use and setup.
What's not so great: Allows people to stay in the stone age of electronics.
If you have VHS or DVD because you haven't moved on this is a great little replacement. It's inexpensive, easy to set up, and although isn't top of the line get's the job done. If you have grand parents or parents that refuse to move on from VHS and DVD this should keep them happy for a couple more years.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Everything
I brought this home and hooked it up. It played poorly with lines on the screen. I tried to adjust with the tracking buttons but that did not remove the lines. I tried several tapes to see if it was just the tape but each one had a problem. After about 15 minutes it wouldn't play at all. It would not respond at all to the remote or the button on the vcr itself. I took it back to the store and got a refund. Judging by the other reviews my guess is it's cheaply made. If you get lucky you may get a good one but be prepared to return it.

Purchased for my mother that still loves to view her VHS movie collection, along with DVD's. Maybe we got a dud but was not impressed with the build quality of this item. From the get-go the VCR seemed to play a little sluggish and there is no AUTO Tracking. Really? C'mon, VCR's made 15 years ago had this feature. Well after it ate and ruined five tapes, over a six week span, I had to return this item.

What's great about it: picture quality, ease of use and set-up
What's not so great: I suppose the price could be lower, but it's not that much of an inconvenience.
I am very impressed with this product. It is one of the cheaper VCR/DVD combo's, but you wouldn't be able to tell when your using it.
I had a TV with built in DVD and VCR, and it broke. Now, I can finally watch my favorite VHS movies again!
The picture quality is actually the best of any dvd player I've used.

What's great about it: Everything!
What's not so great: Price could have been a bit lower but have not found a problem yet with the product.
It was very simple to hook up and the remote is self-explanatory. We have old recorded VHS tapes that we wanted to keep and watch but our old combo stopped working and we decided to purchase a new one. When we got this one to our suprise the picture quality was great, the old one that wore out had very poor picture quality and could not be tracked out but this one makes the pitcure on the old VHS recorded tapes look like the were brand new. My husband and myself are very pleased.

What's great about it: Great picture quality, quick boot up
What's not so great: Can't always use remote
For the most part, this is a fine unit. It loads the DVD's much faster than the unit it replaced, set up was a lot easier, and picture quality is excellent for non-HD.
BUT...
About one out of every three times I load a DVD, the unit refuses to receive commands from the remote. Sometimes if I turn it off and back on, it will work. (Oddly enough, On/Off does work with the remote, but it's the only thing.) Sometimes when the unit goes to sleep while a DVD is paused, the remote will not wake it up. This is true with both the supplied remote and my Harmony universal remote. I've replaced the batteries. Happens with both commercial discs and DVD-R. Seems to be a problem with the unit. And of course, it didn't start doing this until after the warranty expired...

What's not so great: at this point I have no negatives about the product
I buy from bestbuy all the time.
Maybe im lazy but i like to buy gift cards here because of the products and fair prices.
This product is so easy that anyone can hook it up and get started using it in a few minutes.
Just plug in the two provided cables and your up and running.
I bought this unit as it plays vhs which i still have a huge collection of.
It also plays everything else.

What's great about it: Installation was a snap.
What's not so great: Size ..... but most of the combo's are the same.
I purchased this player for my 82 year old mother-in-law who has little faith in Her ability to operate anything with more then one button. The labeled buttons on the remote and player itself have clear and easy to follow instructions and she has been able to finally watch all her saved movies without anyone's help.

What's great about it: I was amazed at the quality of this product.
What's not so great: I have had this product for 6 months and I am glad I bought it. There is nothing I can find wrong.
I wanted to get a Sony because all of my electronics are Sony, but they were out of stock. So, I had to settle for the Toshiba Progressive Scan DVD Player/VCR Combo. Well to my suprise! It is a better product then the Sony DVD Player/VCR Combo. Everything works great and the picuture quality is really good. Just the weight of the product is pretty good quality.
You can not go wrong if you are looking for a product that is a combo package. This is one of the best considering VHS is going away. I can even record my VHS tapes to DVD's. I am happy.

What's great about it: Plays DVDs and VCR tapes.
What's not so great: Poorly manufactured, quality issues, no tuner, etc, etc
In general, I love Toshiba products. However, I had to return this DVD/VCR unit because it seemed very cheaply made and I had a feeling that it would break within a few months. I was very surprised (not pleasantly) by the lack of quality; usually Toshiba is very good about this. This unit felt and handled like a plastic toy. It made strange noises when opening/closing the DVD door. In addition to these build issues, there is no built in tuner which makes life a little difficult if you are used to pre-digital days when all DVD and VCR units came with tuners. As another reviewer stated 'you get what you pay for'. I took this unit back to BestBuy within a week. I ended up paying less than $75 more for another Toshiba that is made of sturdier stuff and has a built in tuner. I love my new DVD/VCR unit; the differences between the new one and this one is huge.

What's great about it: Easy to use, nice picture WHEN IT WORKED
What's not so great: Quit working after warranty expired
We bought this because we have a lot of DVD's and VHS's, so buying the combo would allow us to watch both while saving space. We loved this combo player until 5 months after having it, the DVD player side just stopped reading discs (and it's not like we were trying to watch burnt DVD's, just the ones we paid about $20 bucks for new at the store), so we were just using the VHS side which worked fine, but then 3 weeks after the DVD stopped working, the VHS side stopped working. I looked up the warranty ASSUMING since I had only had this nearly $100 combo player, the warranty would be for a year, and come to find out it was only 90 days! So it was nice while it worked, but 6 months later I have to go buy something else! NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!
