What's not so great: exposure defects - cannot get the consistent quality from this Nikon that I expect from past experience with Nikons and
I have been a Nikon user for many years, both for personal use as well as professionally, and am disappointed in this particular camera. The exposure meter seems to be off, overexposing photos even when I adjust to an underexposure setting. I learned at BestBuy that you do not deal with defective cameras, only broken ones (I bought the Geek Squad "protection" plan). The Geek Squad guy doodled about with the camera and changed the saturation setting and said he had "fixed" the problem. I cannot truly evaluate the camera as I cannot easily get the results I am used to in a Nikon (I currently use a D60, which works just fine, so am appalled at this D90 lack of performance). With this response from BestBuy, I shall most likely avoid buying anything from your stores.

What's great about it: Nothing, it's an expensive paperweight
What's not so great: The fact that I paid $1199 for the camera and $200 for the service plan and do NOT have a working camera.
The Nikon D90 has a known issue with the sensors melting down if used for any length of time or while shooting video. Mine overheated and melted down and went back to best buys repair center in Tx for 2.5 weeks. It finally has arrived back but it's not fixed. It has the SAME issue and melting smell it had before being sent off. I'd look at another Nikon or the Canon T3i but I would NOT waste my time or money on this camera again.

What's great about it: Very long battery life. Very easy to use. Excellent results all the time.
I have been photographing for many many years. When there was only film, i used Canon and Nikon, but primarily Canon. When digital took over, i tried both and Nikon was always superior. About 4 years ago I purchased the D90, and have purchased about 10 cameras since. I still use the D90 frequently. It is a near perfect camera for me. The results are always outstanding, even in the auto mode where you don't need to think, but I usually prefer to play with the exposures. For the money, this may be the best camera I have ever owned.

What's great about it: Picture quality, good price (if it's on sale)
What's not so great: Controls are not intuitive
Command Dial and Sub-Command Dial make a huge difference in ease of use when shooting in modes other than Auto. Lighted LCD readout on top of the camera is very helpful when viewing and changing settings, especially when camera is tripod-mounted. Picture quality is superb, noticeably better than my D5000. The on-camera Auto/Manual Focus switch is a nice addition, in case you switch lenses and forget to change the setting on the lens. The main LCD display doesn't swivel like it does on the D5000, but it is larger and easier to see. If you're not a pro photographer, and you buy this camera, keep the book with you at all times - you'll need it.

What's great about it: Picture Quality
What's not so great: Not a camera for beginners
Despite the fact that this model is over four years old, it's still one of the best cameras on the market today in the below $2k price range. The images it produces are far and away better than any of the fixed lens cameras. The D90 has all the performance you used to get with your best film SLR's combined with all the great advantages of a digital camera. The performance also stacks up well against the larger and more expensive models.

What's great about it: Easy to use, solid design, brilliant photos.
What's not so great: Not a lot!
My wife and I picked up this camera to replace an old snap-and-shoot whose digital screen was failing us. With our daughter starting to walk, we needed something that could also shoot great video. I'm pleased to say that the D90 has been just what we needed.
It has smart enough settings that if you switch to portrait, the picture is nice and clear without too much jitter. If you switch to sports mode for the quick action, it does a great job of keeping up.
NOTE: We have found that the camera is very dependent on the viewfinder targeting squares, so if you're in portrait mode, make sure your lined up or you can get very crisp photos of your background instead of your subject. But, this is a minor thing. Over all, we couldn't be happier.

What's great about it: Great creative features
What's not so great: Unreliable quality
For me, this camera does not measure up to the quality level I expected from Nikon. After 6 months of fairly steady use, the camera died. it seems to have a power issue.
What it does, it does well, but only 6 months use before a catastrophic issue????? Might be time to move on.

What's great about it: Excellent picture quality and easy to use.
What's not so great: Nothing yet
The D90 is my first step into DSLR and I chose Nikon over Canon based on the recommendation from my friends. I mainly shoots pictures of my kids (specially in action), portrait pictures and in events. Believe me, this beast is rock solid and takes amazing photographs.
The lens that comes with it is pretty decent. I like the way it feels in my hand and its weight is not an issue for me. The batteries have lasted very well.
If you are buying D90, then I would suggest an 8gb (or higher) of high performance memory card and spare battery.

What's great about it: Good size, ease of controls
Was replacing an N70 Nikon film SLR. D90 gives me the manual control that the N70 would not easily do. Not quite as easy as my old F2 that I still have, but certainly very usable. Very high quality images, controls well located. Body size and mass is adequate (the newer D3100 body was too small for my hands). Video was not as important to me but having 720p is a plus. Wide range of lenses also a plus (my 28-300 Tamron zoom from my N70 works as well). Certainly now a cost-conscious alternative to the newer 14+MP options. Unlike my old F2, however, the owners' manual is nearly a novel in comparison - recommend loading it into your iPad or iPhone's iBooks :-)

What's not so great: Cold weather use
I love my D90, but I have been problems with trying to take pictures outside in cold weather. When I try to take pictures in temperatures between 20-30 Deg. F the camera locks up and gives several error messages. I emailed Nikon and asked for their advice, their response was “that the temperature of the operating environment be between 32°-104° degrees Fahrenheit”, for Nikon cameras. So don’t count on taking any pictures outside in cold weather. I never had this problem with my D80.

What's great about it: Solid feel, picture quality, rugged overall, great speed and performance.
What's not so great: Lack of weathering and alloy body, low FPS, auto focus on movie mode
This has been our second Nikon camera and i have to say wow it's without doubt a fantastic piece of equipment. The quality only got four stars just cause of the lack of weathering proof such as the d300s and the lack of autofocus on video but then again that's the beauty of this camera. Hollywood cameras also don't autofocus and the bokeh achieved could be fantastic. Great build, solid and a bit on the heavy end but makes u feel like you are holding a real camera not a point and shoot. The button are placed nicely throughout the device. I love it's support for cls and other advanced functions. To me it feels like a d300s since we dknt use the high frame rate. Mostly for modeling and fashion. Great under low light and high iso response I must say. I've had this one for quite a which and taken about twenty five k shots with it and still going strong without a doubt.
Ps battery life is amazing. Just about a thousand shots with flash and had sum left.

What's great about it: Handles low light and sports well.
What's not so great: nothing yet
I tried to find reviews that would with certainty tell me if the D90 is worth the money as an upgrade over the D40. I had a D40 for about 4 years and yes, it was a good basic SLR. The D90 makes the D40 look like a kids camera. I needed a camera for sports and low light indoor situations. The D40 did not do well with low light and sports. I am very pleased with the D90 in these regards. I have found the D90 to be well worth the money. Especially since it has come down in price. I am a novice photographer and love this camera.

What's great about it: The quality of the picture and easy to use.
What's not so great: It is a little heavy.
I purchased this camera because I now have nephews who mean the world to me and I wanted to capture all the wonderful moments. I did all the research between the Nikon and Cannon and when it came down to it the Nikon inched out the Cannon. I am so very happy with my puchase I have not had the camera that long and have taken so many pictures that I can't believe I did not invest sooner.

What's great about it: Good picture quality!
What's not so great: Too may repairs have had to be made.
When I originally purchased my camera, I loved it. Then about a month later I kept getting an "Err" code flashing on my screen. This error had something to do with the lens not staying connected to the camera right. This error would lock up my camera and eventhough I would turn the camera off, it wouldn't shut off, so I had to take the battery out and put it back in to reset the camera. Thank God I was a Premier Reward Zone member and had up to 45 days to return the camera to the store. I returned the camera and got another D90. About a month of having the second camera, I got the same error code. This time, I sent it into Nikon to be repaired. It was under warranty and they fixed the problem. After about 10 months, the flash stopped working! Luckily it was still under warranty and I sent it in to be fixed. Well...not only did they fix it, they sent me a completely different camera (different serial number and everything). I marked the inside of the battery compartment with a sharpie just to see if I would get the same camera back. This mark was not on the new camera they sent me! I tried to explain to them that the camera they sent me was not my camera, but they insisted it was and wouldn't give me a new warranty. Not but a month later, I got the same error code. Now it's been over the year and it's no longer under warranty! I sent the camera back anyway and they couldn't repair the problem so they sent me a brand-new camera at no charge! Thecamera takes good pics! I just need a better lens. The one that comes with it is good for just everyday beginner use.

What's great about it: Feature set, LCD, lens, ease of (basic) use.
What's not so great: It's not cheap.
I bought this for my girlfriend as a replacement for a D40 that was stolen when our home was burglarized. Both she and I are highly impressed by this camera. The LCD is generously sized, the included lens is a great compliment and the feature set of this camera is enormous. She is much more experienced, and remarks that it has a lot of high-end features that are very useful and give her great flexibility. For my part, I can pick it up, turn it on and take pictures that make me look like a pro. The best of both worlds! I highly recommend the Nikon D90.

What's great about it: Great lens for beginners (takes good photos in a variety of situations), camera's auto setting makes it very easy to use
What's not so great: I can't really think of anything except it's a little big. No constant auto-focus on video mode.
Overall, this camera is exactly what i thought it would be. I did a LOT of research to determine exactly what i wanted in a DSLR, so I knew what I was getting.
I'm a beginning photographer, and here are a few of the photos I've been able to take with everything straight out of the box.
