"I was considering the D60 or a Cannon but went with the more expensive D90 for the movie functionallity. What a great camera! Even in the "point and shoot" auto mode it takes incredible pictures. I thought that I"d never say this but it takes as good a photo as a high end film camera. I've printed landscape pictures as large as 8x10 with no trace of graininess or "noise" even after dark. Auto focus is a little slow when using the LCD instead of the viewfinder but that is a very small issue. When shooting HD movies you must manually focus the lense if the target is moving but this is the only DSLR that can shoot a movie in any capacity so that is not an issue for me. Besides I have a good video camera anyway. Buy it and you won't regret the investment."

What's great about it: it's versatility, stunning pictures, ease of use and sturdiness

"I am an amateur photographer. However, this camera has given me the ability to go from nice pictures to awesome pictures. The clarity is unbelievable and the functions are outstanding. I was a little intimidated at first. But once I delved right into learning the ins and outs it was easier than I thought. If you are serious about photography and you want to seriously upgrade this little baby is the one for you. I highly recommend it!"

What's great about it: Easy to use, bundled with features.... Amazing pictures.
What's not so great: Video mode is more difficult to master. But not a downfall!!

"Nikon never ceases to amaze me, I have used many other products on the market but love the feel of the Nikon in hand. A solid build with well positioned menu buttons. Straight from the box you will feel like a pro and I'm sure you will be snapping Pro photos in no time. The Shutter speed is good and the noise seems to be low even in dark lighting. I could waffle on for hours but I wont. If you are looking for a great DSLR camera and are not put off by price you will be more than happy with this unit. The Video feature is great but takes a while to master (it is not as easy as some point and shoot video cams on the market as it has no auto focus) but how can you fault and amazing DSLR with HD video built in!!"

"This is a great camera. I've been looking for a DSLR for 2 years now. Finally one came out with a Movie Mode, and I bought it. I was considering either a Canon XSI, or 40D, but went with the Nikon D90 because of the video and higher shooting rate(compared to the XSI) of 4.5 FPS. I haven't been disappointed. The pictures are beautiful and the camera easy to use. I can't wait to learn more and use some of the more advanced features. The VR lens is great, you can shoot down to 1/40 shutter speed without blurring, very nice."

What's great about it: great results and easy to use
What's not so great: a little expensive

"I just recently purchased this camera and I was amazed at how easy it was to setup. The directions in the manual are very easy to follow. The camera has the look and feel of an expensive professional camera. The auto-focus is very quick and accurate allowing you to zoom in and focus then zoom out and compose your picture. You can also change lenses with this camera. I was able to use my older nikon lenses on this camera. That was one of the reasons I bought this camera. Also with the 12.9 megapixels you are able to create and print very large photographs, just be sure you set the image feature to a large setting. One other thing that really stood out on this camera was the battery. I was really pleased at how many shots I was able to take before I had to recharge. In closing I would have to say this is a great camera and one that should last many, many years. steamerj"

What's great about it: great pix, above average kit lens
What's not so great: hd movie mode clunky, but I did not buy this camera for movies

"Nikon has made an excellent camera, well made, solid feeling, quick response, accurate color reproduction, with fast and accurate focus. They do this by designing a camera from a user's perspective, rather than trying to build one with the most impressive specs. The sensor, viewfinder and lcd (the users interface) are all closely related to the ones found on the D300, a top rated camera that costs nearly double this one. I feel these components are the best you can get on a camera at this price. As a newer design, the D90 has better high ISO performance (less noise in low light) than the D300. The kit lens that comes with the camera is sharp and above average for a kit lens, but I would have preferred that it came with a metal mount and sealing gasket rather than be made of plastic to keep the cost down. I would gladly have paid an additional $100 for a better made lens with the same performance. In this price range for a camera you do not want to feel any corners were cut to meet a price target. Overall, this is an excellent camera, it takes wonderful pictures which is the most important thing."

What's great about it: Clear low-light pictures, sharp images, quick focus, video

"This is a fantastic camera for the price. The pictures always come out very clear and sharp; even at ISO 1600 there is very little noise. The screen is excelent, and always easy to see. As usual, Nikon's ergonomics are above par with handily located buttons and easy-to-navigate menus. the 18-105mm lens is one of Nikon's better ones, and with the image stabilization, pictures almost always come out clearly.
Battery life is very good, so long as you're not using live view or recording lots of video.
I'd highly recommend to anyone wanting a $1k-1800 camera."

"I have had the D90 for a week and I love it. Meters much better than the D80. I have the D40 and D40X. Far superior to those. I will sell the D40. Had the D80 but sold it due to overexposure problems. Pictures are beautiful and the 3 in LCD with almost 1 million pixels is fantastic. Live view and movie mode really doesn't interestme. I have tried them and they are fine but not my reason for buying the camera. So far no bugs or quirks with this new camera. Lots of menu features, too many to list here. Check out DP Review for indepth discussions of the D90."

What's great about it: Light-weight (suprizingly), fast responce, very clear image and LCD screen!
What's not so great: Sceptical about the 'Live View'--and takes a long to time to focus and take the pic in this setting!

"LOVE the camer!!! Shoots like a Nikon, feels like a nikon, this of the D80 but MUCH better!!!!!
I jsut don't like the idea of Live View and the movie mode in the camera...well not in a nice DSLR!!!"
