What's great about it: Graphics, Blu-ray, Lots of built in features, and free online play.

"I'll start by saying that I own all 3 major systems. The PS3 is by far the best. It's not even close. Don't get me wrong they all have their strong points, but the PS3 goes above and beyond in all the most important areas. The graphics are better, there's no need to buy a wireless adapter, no fees for online play, and the biggest bonus is the built in Blu-ray player. The nice thing is that you never need to worry about going through annoying firmware updates for your Blu-ray player because it will be automatically done in the system updates. Your Blu-ray will always be up to date. The bottom line is that for the extra $100 or so, you will be getting a far superior system with blu-ray. Who wouldn't pay $100 for a great blu-ray player. This system is a great addition to any home entertainment setup, and an absolute bargain for what you get."

"The ps3 is the best gaming console to this day. Don't go out and buy a 360 because it's cheaper, because you will have a lot better gaming experience with the playstation 3. With the xbox 360 everything comes separate besides the controller, like LAN cord, and SD cables, but the ps3 has all of that combined in the box so you don't have to spend more money."

What's not so great: Signature games are taking a long time to develop

"The PS3 has everything you need. It is often said that the PS3 is too expensive, but that is not the case, it is the best performing system with incredible features. Out of the box, your PS3 has built in wireless and wired connectivity, bluetooth connectivity, Blue-Ray playback, media card slots, free Playstation Network account and more. If you tried to have all of these things with an XBOX 360 or a Nintendo Wii, you'd have to at least throw on an additional $200 for a low-end Blue-Ray player and you would not be able to get bluetooth.

With so many HDTVs in individual households, more and more people are purchasing Blue-Ray players and next-gen systems, but the PS3 does it all for you in one unit and it up-converts you regular DVDs. If you are looking for the most powerful game system, best Blue-Ray player on the market and don't like having a million wires sticking out the back of your entertainment unit, then get a PS3 now.

I should also not that I have an XBOX 360 and a Nintendo Wii, but it is rare that I play them because I'm so impressed with the PS3, especially the exclusive games that you can download through the Playstation Network.

Finally, the sixaxis movement of the dual-shock 3 controller is so responsive and you'll be amazed at how fun games like Flower (only on the Playstation Network) can be. Go and get a PS3 today!"

"The ps3 is very quiet. If you buy one, you can expect it to last for at least 5 years. Has the best game out there for people who are looking for the latest shooters. (killzone 2) Graphics are great. The hard drive is easy to replace and ps3 does not take up a lot of space. All it needs are a power cord and a video cord. Also has free internet and it is free to sign up for an online account to play online. Your ps3 also comes standard with playstation Home."

"The PS3 is a great system overall and I really enjoy having it. The hard drive has plenty of space for games and other content. I use the PS3 as my blu ray player, because it delivers on picture and audio and has way faster load times than the regular players, plus I get to play PS3 exclusives on it.I do own an 360 too, which I play games on that even if they are multiplatfrom cause in my opinion the 360 is better in games. The controller is nice and the sixaxis is actually cool motion senor technology unlike the Wii's. However, the playstation online store is not to good they barely ever get new content compared to Xboxlive and no where close to the features xbox live has, but still it is an amazing blu ray player. In the end, its a sleek console with great features and is worth adding to your entertainment section."

"I have had played sony for 13 years owned my playstation 2 for the longest 10 years well i bought this machine it lasted 2 years ! i kept great care of it played movies and games then one day it no longer played dvd's about three months later it stoped playing blueray i called a service tech and he stated when that happens in three months it would only put out HdmI sure enough three months later only that worked stioll played games now my playsyation no longer works but does come on and thats it they want 159.00 bucks to fix it its a common problem with sony and i dunno if i should by a xbox 360 now are another playstation 3"

"This is a very good Blu ray player with a good console as a bonus , Games like Uncharted , Heavenly Sword and MGS4 make me happy , but games as Lair, the Oblivion port and the new Socom are not good at all..... also my ps3 fried after two moths of use but i am not gonna downgrade the system for that , i only got a lemon but what is really bothersome is to spend 1 hour with each new game to download updates and installing so the game can run correctly , on the 360 this is optional ..... on ps3 this is mandatory ...... overall the system gets a solid 8.5 in my book"

"If you’re trying to figure out whether to buy a PS3 or an Xbox 360, this is your answer. PS3s have the same CPU (processor) that Xbox’s have, however, the PS3 has a slightly better GPU (graphics processing unit), meaning that in most cases a game played on the PS3 will have better graphics than the same game played on the Xbox.

Here are a list of the positives and various features of the PS3 system:

- free Playstation network membership (cost $50/year for Xbox Live)
- web browser that allows you to view full screen web pages on your TV (Xbox doesn’t have this)
- built in Blu-ray player which could cost up to $300 if purchased by itself (not an option for Xbox)
- built in b/g Wi-Fi (cost $100 extra to purchase Wi-Fi adapter for Xbox)
- motion sensing controller utilized in some games (not available for Xbox)
- slot load CD with no physical tray (Xbox has a tray)
- game purchases, movie rentals and movie purchases available from Playstation Store
- relatively low percentage of defective systems (Xbox 360 has a very very high rate of defective consoles)
- comes standard with an 80gb hard drive, which is a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard drive; this means you can buy a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive normally used in a desktop pc and use it in your PS3
- slideshow mode for pictures stored on the hard drive
- optional bluetooth remote that you can buy which is easy to use for movies (not an option for Xbox 360)
- remote play connectivity with the PSP system

This is a long list but when you compare the cheaper Xbox with the more expensive PS3, the PS3s additional features more than make up for the additional cost considering that with a PS3 you have a Blu-ray player and free network membership."

"I was really lucky for buying the PS3 at the perfect time, I bought the PS3 + 50 GIFT CARD + Guitar Hero Aerosmith= 399. I save 90 dollars for this, the console is great, im really happy, that discount is over now, but maybe they will have another sale like that soon"

"FYI.. The blu ray will break down. After a period of time, the blu ray stops can not read your games! All this money spend (~$500.00) and now I have to pay $161.00 to fix the driver. BEWARE!!! Google PLAYSTATION3 problems or will not read disc.. You will see tons of bloggers upset because this is a common problem with the blu ray in the Playstation3. They only gave me a 90 day warranty.. so basically if it stops reading again I wasted ~$700.00 on a console that breaks down!! Sony might as well wear a ski mask because they ripped me off on a product that seems to be a common problem. Just google it before spending any money and you will see."

"We've owned this PS3 for 13 months,then one day it locked up. After restarting it, it no longer recognized games or movies. We had to send it for repair. It costs $150, one month outside of the warranty. After doing research, this problem is VERY common. We've has a PS2 for years and years with no problems. We are very let down with this system!"

"About a year ago, i was looking for a Blu-Ray player. The good ones were running about $300. I was also looking for a network media player to play music and movies stored on a NAS in my den. Those were running about $150.

Then I looked at the PS3. For $400 i got a Blu-Ray player, a media player, and as a bonus, a great gaming and internet machine. It plays Blu-Rays quite well. The picture and sound are outstanding. As a media player, it works decently. It plays most common types of Movie files. Playing music is more difficult, it plays them but you cant really make playlists (that I Know of) and navigating thru Huge collections like mine is a bit of a chore, but it works.
I didnt intend playing much games on this. But i broke down and got "Rock Band". The gameplay and graphics are great. I have also borrowed games from some buddy and they to look sweet. It also works resonably well for browsing the internet.

For the price, this is a steal for what you get. I dont regret this purchase one bit.

One other thing i will say, is make sure your system can breathe werever you put it. This sucker runs HOT after an hour or so of movies/gaming. The fan can get a bit loud, but if your sound is cranked up, you wont hear it. But if you stuff it in an entertainment cabinate or whatever, be careful, i can see burning this thing out if it doesnt get good venalation"
