What's great about it: Just about everything about this system is wonderful.
What's not so great: The price is abit steep but you know what---it's worth it.

"Although it's a bit pricey it worth every red penny. This unit is so great I don't even know where to start, well for starters...
1: The graphics are outstanding nuff said.
2: Loads games fairly quickly.
3: Free online sevices.
4: Sounds are crisp and clear.
5: Did I mention free online sevices!
6: The controller is really awsome.
If you can give this unit a good home and give it TLC---that steep price will be a thing of the past. This unit will put a smile on your face every time you play it."

What's great about it: Price, Graphics and Games
What's not so great: Newer models dont run Ps1-2 games / 2 USB ports instead of 4

"i know a little late to write a review on something i got for christmas, but hey, better late then never i suppose...

pathetic as it sounds, i find myself somewhat sprinting home to play...its insane...call of duty 4 and me have been married since i got my ps3, and i have no regrets. even though its for the 360 as well, you dont have to worry about red rings and nonsense like that, not to mention all the losers that have the controllers, specifically made for pulling off double shots on call of duty, thus letting off a whole round of a weapon in less then a couple of seconds....

but yeah, unless im crazy, games like Uncharted are ONLY for ps3, which is an amazing game, and im sure the next one will be even better.

the only bad thing is, ps1 and 2 games arent compatible with newer ps3 models. not to mention the 4 usb's on original ps3's has been reduced to 2...unless theres some more ports in the back....i honestly havent checked =x lol...

well, either way, great system, glad my brother steered my in the right direction."

What's great about it: The Playstation 3 offers an amazing video gaming, movie watching, music listening and picture viewing experience.
What's not so great: No HD cables or headset included in the box.

"It's true that it has taken some time for the Playstation 3 to catch up with its competition. It has proven to be more difficult to develop games for, but developers are finally figuring it out. Sony is known for making excellent hardware and the PS3 is no exception. It's very well built, runs quiet and has great customer service to back it. The ability to upgrade the hard drive is a nice touch and very easy to do. It doesn't void your warranty and Sony actually recommends it. The Blu-ray drive is great for watching movies in HD and it will upscale your regular DVDs too. Using HDMI will allow you to have uncompressed video and 7.1 audio which makes for an amazing gaming and movie watching experience. Sony has added trophies to their games (like XBOX 360 achievements) which adds more value to your gameplay. The Playstation Network and Playstation Store offer an incredible amount of downloadable content and gameplay including: demos, movies, themes, arcade games, wallpaper, PSP games/demos and original Playstation games. The service is free and is getting bigger and better by the week. Playstation Home is also a new and free addition to the PS3 and provides a virtual world for you to socialize with friends, play games, meet new people and preview game and movie content. Without a doubt the PS3 is worth its hefty price tag. With tons of multi-platform and exclusive games to choose from and Blu-ray movies the PS3 will keep you busy for a long time. I can't recommend the PS3 enough. For the absolute best gaming experience you need to buy both a PS3 and 360. I cannot recommend one over the other. They are two totally different beasts with a lot to offer."

What's great about it: IT PLAYS BLUERAY!
What's not so great: no good games

"The ps3 looks sleek has blue ray and free online play! DON"T be fooled! The blue ray is great for movies but not for games. For having blue ray you would think it should over pass the Xbox 360 ten times right? It doesn’t ! Some of the games look the same, But most of them look worse. And so what it has free online, no one plays it, I'd rather pay $50 a year to have good online play. It will take years for the ps3 to reach its full potential, Till then Im playing Xbox. The ps3 is not for gamers!"

What's not so great: Constant Updates Required, PSN needs more content, My first one died on me.

"I bought the 40gig PS3 from Best Buy 2/14/08 and 11 months later It died on me. I went with Sony over Microsoft because of the red ring of death issue xbox360's were having. But guess what! The Playstation 3 isn't immune from random deaths either. It's a great system with great games but for the love of god buy the extended warranty to be on the safe side. I bought my PS2 over 7 years ago and it still works to this day. Don't make 'em like they use to. :("

"I'm a hardcore Playstation fan and started off by getting an Xbox 360. However as more and more games have come out for the PS3, it's a much better deal and better system. Has an internet browser, plays music, video, and has many other features. Can download off of the internet onto the Playstation. It's basically a computer with outstanding graphics and great games.

You need one."

"Well, here you are reading this review as I read several hundred others from numerous web sites that offer the PS3 game console. At the price for the contents of the box, I have to say it completely met and exceeded my expectations. The console was pretty much plug and play, not much too it. (it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out) If you are planning or thinking about purchasing one for yourself or another as a gift, just take the plung and do it. You've already read hundreds of these reviews (which are really just everyones own personal experience of the equipment).

If your worried about spending the money and are on the fence, just go get it. If you find that you are unhappy with the equipment, then just return it. I'm not gonna tell you it's the next best thing to peanut butter and jelly but it's one of the best technology advancements on the market today. (well to my knowledge anyways) To the guy from Raleigh, NC who is completely upset with his purchase, well all I can say is this; read and review prior to purchasing. When you get to the store, READ THE BOX, it'll tell you what's inside the box. Also, spend more than $30.00 on HDMI cables. You get what you pay for and if you want it to look like it does in Best Buy, drop the dollars and you'll be happy you did in the long run. You will not be surprised with disappointment when you open the box and connect a couple cables if you just read and know what your buying. Be a smart shopper!

Bottom line, excellent equipment for the price and for what's on the market for just entertainment and fun. Good job Sony! When the next best thing comes out, I'll review and research that product as well and just make Best Buy stock go up from purchasing the next best thing on the market then."

What's great about it: Blu-ray, free online gaming, large hdd, bluetooth
What's not so great: PSN needs to get better

"If you want a top of the line, sleek, attractive, all in one Entertainment system then get the PS3!

What more can I say, it has Blu-ray which is THE choice for HDTV's. You can use any bluetooth enabled device (unlike Xbox that overcharges for it's earpiece).

The online is FREE, although the Playstation Network still needs to get better. It is 10X better than it was a year ago and still growing.

Basically the PS3 is a Ferrari and Xbox is a Kia.

What's not so great: poor cables included, no backwards compatibility

"So upon finally purchasing a PS3, I can say that I am sorely dissappointed.

I bought the PS3 hoping to play a few new games, and play some of my old ones - BUT - hey guess what. With this latest round of PS3's they stopped having backwards compatible software emulation. That means you can't play any of your old PS2 or PS1 games. Thanks for letting us know, sony.

Also, the cables they give you are poor a/v cables - no hdmi included. If you hope to see some of the quality audio and video, go buy 2 more 30 dollar cables.

The game selection of exclusives is weak at best. Little Big Planet, Metal Gear, and the upcoming Killzone 2 are all I have to look forward to since the system is no longer backwards compatible.

Two minor problems I also have are: It runs with Blue-tooth, so I can't use my harmony one remote with it. Also, the menu screen when it isn't broadcasting audio (connected via optical) makes the receiver pop off and on which is distracting. (fine during movies and games though)

At the end, I'll still stick with my 360 - Flaws and all.

"i was very disapointed with the ps3. I returned it after i bought it. I love my x-box 360 alot more. The x-box has better and more games. The only reason i would use the ps3 is for the blu-ray player. Buy the x-box 360 elite, its the same price as the ps3 and its alot better."

"This thing is amazing, it's lightning fast, doesnt have 3rrod like the 360. Haven't had one problem in my year of having it. The games and graphics are amazing. It has wireless internet and you can browse websites on your tv. The controllers are bluetooth so no batterys. Just plug them up and let them charge and they last a really long time before needing to be recharged. Customizable dashboard. PS Store to download demos or buy games and movies. You can even rent movies on there. Has Blu Ray disk player and in my opinion hasthe nicest picture of any blu ray disk player i've ever seen. Upconverts your dvd's to HD if output through HDMI. Amazing. The whole thing is just A++++ all the way."

"I purchased this product and it is awesome! I have been a long time Xbox and Xbox360 owner and originally I purchased this as a replacement Blu-ray player. After having it awhile I have really come away amazed at the PS3. The setup was easy and very short. The peformance of the machine for both Blu-ray and for gaming is excellent. This is a must have !!!!"

"I have had my Playstation for two years and it has never frozen up or dissapointed me in any way. Ihave played Wii and 360 but they just don't compare. I have seen the red rings on 360 and seen them fail to read disks within a year but have never had that happen with my playstation. Graphic are amazing, online functionalty is great and I love it if you are deciding between this and xbox then spend a few extra dollars and make a good investment in the Playstation 3."

"ive had all the games systems, xbox 360, then i got wii, then i got ps3. the ps3 is ten times better then 360 and the wii just doesnt even compare. if ur thinking of price when come time to buy either 360 or this then u better choose this because 360 starts cheap but if u want the 360 to do everything that the ps3 can do ur gonna have to spend quite a bit of money. the playstation 3 comes with free online play, blu-ray high def movie player, and an internet search. the xbox comes with.... none of that...but you can buy all of that stuff for 360, but it will end up costing more than ps3"

What's not so great: Basic Knowledge of console funtions required to keep running.

"I've had mine for a little over two years and it runs like knew.

Pros:
Games are awesome, HD Graphics are like none other, Download times are fast-ish, Game Library is growing rapidly, Online Access is Free.

Cons:
A Basic understanding is required to maintain HDD and consoles functions in order to keep running, Possability of overheating(Easily fixed with an Intercooler TS), Operating System is complex.

Over all, the Pros outweigh the Cons for the fact everything the owner needs to know about the Console and it's funtions is in the User's Manual."

"i purchased the 40gig model last june. i original bought it just for the blu ray feature...it won me over quickly with all its games. the xbox has nothing on the ps3. sure the live is a little better... but PSN is free and works just fine. what? u think the xbox has better games? no, it has 3, halo3, gears, and fable. were talking exclusives here. everyother good game not mentioned is on both

as for the PS3- litttle big planet, metal gear solid 4, uncharted(excellent game), motorstorm, resistance, warhawk, and buzz

coming soon, killzone2, god of war 3, and infamous!"

What's great about it: blu ray amazing graphics internet browser wifi built in
What's not so great: not as good games as xbox360... onlinr play isnt as good as live and smaller comunity

"as a proud owner of ps3 wii and the 360

xbox 360: you should buy this system if you want very good online play with bigger variety of games...but it is very loud...make usre you buy a extra warranty for the red rings...

ps3: amazing graphics and sound but lacks online play yeah it may have home but it isn't all that.... blu ray is amazing if you want a gaming system for single player with a hi-def video system the ps3 is the way to go

wii: i personally dont like this system as much but if your whole family wants to play it then i recommend this system graphics arent as good but it feels like youre actually in the game!!!"

"The Ps3 Console is simply amazing I think is far superior than the xbox. But They are not built to last Ive had probably 4 and all 4 have had malfunctions, Thank god for the warranty I always buy on them"
