What's great about it: None to describe about this product
What's not so great: I think new 80gb Console is their BETA version

"To weeks back I bought a new 80gb PS3 at Sony Styles, the console stopped working with in 4to5 hours of use. When I called tech support, they said they could exchange the console with a refurbished/Repaired one. I did also experience their worst customer service and cheap sales tricks.
Ultimately, I think the new 80 GB is not proven/beta with lot of issues on, I would never buy one sooner till they are better proven"

"A lot of people have written about the pros and cons of the PS3 vs. XBOX 360 vs. Wii. I'm not bothering with that, and assume you can find that information at elsewhere. I'm also assuming you can read all about why the PS3 would or would not fit your needs.
Instead, I'd like this review to explain what exactly this configuration is (there's a lot of confusion about that,) and why I think it hits the sweet spot. Basically, there are currently 2 versions of the PS3 on the market now. Ignoring the size of the drive for a second (because you can always swap the drive anyway, and it has no real bearing on the rest of the specs) think of them as Version A (currently available - or not as the case may be - in the PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack) and Version B (this one.)
The first thing that you need to understand is that there are three relevant differences between these two versions besides the included bundle and the price.
Difference #1: Version A (MGS pack) is backward compatible with PS2 games while this one is NOT (they are both backward compatible with PS1 games however.)
Difference #2: Version A has 4 USB ports as well as memory card slots, while this version has only 2 USB ports and NO memory card slots.
Difference #3: AND THIS FOR ME IS BIG: Version A has the older and larger 90nm Cell processor, while this one has the smaller (and some say more reliable) 65nm Cell processor. Power consumption on this unit is lower as well, dropping from 200 Watts to 135 watts. The end result is a machine that runs cooler and, according to all reports as well as my personal experience, much quieter. An extremely relevant factor if you watch movies with it.
For those that have been looking for a while, this is basically the 40GB machine that was offered recently, with a larger hard drive and an upgraded controller - they replaced the basic sixaxis controller with the Dualshock 3 controller (which means it has rumble.)
Now Version A is packaged with Metal Gear Solid. It has an 80GB drive like this one, and the same controller. The big differences are listed above. Until this configuration was released, the larger hard drive and Dualshock controller were 2 of the 4 reasons many people felt the MGS pack was worth the additional $100. Those two factors are now eliminated. The remaining differences are the backward compatibility with PS2 games and the MGS game itself, which can of course be bought separately.
So to sum it up, if you NEED PS2 compatibility, you might want to grab the MGS pack if you can get one - that or keep your old PS2. For new buyers though, and for all of the people that are going to just play PS3 games, as well as avid movie watchers, this particular configuration is fantastic. You get the big drive, the good controller, PLUS the cooler running chip, a quieter machine and a system that uses about 33% less power.
And ok - just to satisfy the basic requirements of a review, I'll list some other nice stuff: It includes a Blu-ray DVD player (one of those runs almost as much as, or more than, this entire box), the online play is FREE, wireless connectivity is built in (you don't have to buy an additional piece as with some others), reliability has been quite good (much better than some others), there are some great PS3-only titles, and you can stream media to it from your PC. There's more, but there are plenty of people outlining it.
As always, do your research and see what's best for you. Maybe the 360-only titles are must haves for you, or maybe your family fits a Wii. We have a Wii and I love it. But I also love my PS3, and in my opinion this configuration is the one to get (this month anyway.)"

What's not so great: online play is a little better with xbox

"its a great system and if your only going to buy one system your going to buy the ps3 because of the blu-ray player and some other functions. online gaming is free and is pretty good no complaints about it but xbox is a little better. every time a new game comes out graphics just get better and better so i wouldnt worry too much about it. when the fast talking sales person tells you that you want an hdmi cable believe him trust me i had to find out the hard way!"

What's great about it: Great gaming and graphics and also plays blue ray
What's not so great: doesn't have halo and other games that xbox has.

"the biggest complaint is that xbox has better games. But this is well worth buying for blue ray alone. It has great games and the graphics look great. They should come out with a PS3 "Fit" like nintendo has."

"You've read everything there is to know about this console. It's superior to everything out there, it's the best Blu Ray player available in the market today, it's WiFi compatible so you can surf and email while you play or watch a movie, PSN has lots of goodies to download, and on and on. Everyone knows that if capacity is an issue, simply swap out the HD. Just get it already."

What's great about it: It is very versatile, Gaming, Blu-ray, Riping Cd's and Pic's
What's not so great: It puts out some heat from its main vent.

"I am a PS fan boy I own all three systems and enjoy them all. The first thing I noticed when I started this baby up is the main menus they are very user friendly . Another thing I noticed is the PS3's versatility from Gaming to watching Blu-ray to Riping your favorite Cd's and Pic's it does it all. The graphic are simple amazing! The controller is light weight, easy to use and over all feels really nice, a little small maybe, but hey what ever. As to PS2 backwards compatibility it works mostly. The only problem so far is when you pop in a PS2 disc game play is a bit blurry,but this can be fix if you fix a couple factory settings first, turn off the PS2 up converter from the main settings menu then second, turn off the smoothing setting from the "PS" menu on the controller or let the game load to the game menus then just reset the game from the "PS" menu on your controller.If you shopping for a system get the PS3. I have played the XBOX 360 and the graphics pales in comparison its over all look and feel just don't match. The only reason XBOX 360 fans tout their superiority is because of the "Halo" phenomenon. Mind you "Halo 3" is a fun game and I do occasionally go to my friends house to play, but if you play any other games BESIDES "Halo". Get the PS3 it ROCKS!"

What's great about it: clarity with HDMI for a 1080P Blu-Ray movie is stupid clear
What's not so great: Besides GT5, no other games that peak interest

What's great about it: online, blue ray, easy navigation, wide variety of Great games, Dualshock 3 rumble controler.
What's not so great: only 2 usb ports, does not have memory stick options.

"The PS3 is Fantastic. I would prefer it over the "other" gaming systems because it is the complete package. You do not need to but any add on's other then accessories, wich goes for anything. Anyone can pick it up and just start playing. The fact that the PS3 has lowered it's price is great and makes it even more accessible and affordable for the public. This specific PS3 does have some downfalls, it only has 2 usb ports, wich would be a problem when attempting to play such games as rock band, and the soon to come out guitar hero world tour. Another downfall I was shocked to find out is that the new lower priced PS3 now does not come with the ability to insert any memory card for cameras or transfering music. The only other downfall is that it does not come with a game or movie. I do believe it does come with a demo game called PAIN, and that is awsome to start off with, but I expected more. Now the great thing that this PS3 does come with is the new dualshock 3 rumble controler! Its a great feature they should have added to this bundle a long time ago. And as always the online for the PS3 is FREE. Overall it is a great buy and easy to navigate through. So if you ahve never played video games before or just want a blue ray player, the best thing to buy is a PS3. The PS3 is for everyone!"

"I purchased the playstation 3 when the new system first came out, since then I have not had any problems with the system and have learned how to use all of its toys. The blue ray player is cool if you have HDMI and a TV that will support it, if not then that is not the reason to purchase a PS3. The games and built in wireless controlers are the reason for the purchase. Sony has consistantly come out with most indepth best graphic games on the market currently. Another great feature is that the PS3 has a wireless card built in if you bought the bigger version. Once you figure out how to get it all turned and connected to your home network. It is a blast. Not to be one that really enjoys online gaming I like the fact that I can log on and purchse upgrades for my games like rockband. In all go spend the money they are not that expensive anymore and it is worth it. I hope I win the 1000 bucks."

What's great about it: Picture, Blu-ray, backwards compatabily (60 GB)
What's not so great: downloads, online gaming

"I was fortunate to get the last of the PS3 60 GB system when they where just selling out. I have been playing games on PS2 for a long time so I was lucky to get this PS3 60 GB system before they were completely out. Overall my system is good no issues at all. It plays all my PS2 games with no problems so I am happy about that. The picture, blu-ray dvd playback is good. My only let down is the some what longer downloads for movies in comparison to xbox 360. Also the online gaming is lagging behind xbox 360. If Sony could optimize their online gaming with more titles and get a bigger audience then I believe they would be better position with this system versus xbox 360. Other than that I am happy with my system. I am just wishing the online gaming would be as competitive with xbox 360 in terms of the online gaming experience."

What's great about it: Graphics, plays blu rays, slide show capabilities and on-line gaming.
What's not so great: IMO the remote that comes with it is not as user friendly for frequent DVD use.
