"Remember, this is a multimedia center, not just a gaming console. i have a 500gb external hard drive hooked up to it with music, family videos and pictures. My playstation is great for hosting parties. my suround sound plays best when i play everything from the playstation3, as if it is processing everything alot better."

What's great about it: First and foremost would be the fact that it is the best Blu-Ray player out there.
What's not so great: Only two USB ports and having both of those filled if you're charging the controllers.

"I've only had my PS3 for about 2 weeks but I am extremely satisfied with it. I've got it running over HDMI to a 26" Sony Bravia and the picture quality is great. Blu-Ray looks awesome and it's upconverting makes my old DVDs look great, too. I've only got Guitar Hero 3 and Warhawk for it right now (which I enjoy immensely and the graphics, of course, beat the pants off my ol' PS2) but there are so many demos available for download that I've got more than enough to keep me occupied. Sony does a great job providing downloadable games so it makes finding and installing new games a breeze.

It took me a while to get on board with the PS3 but at this price point I just couldn't hold out any longer!!!"

What's not so great: like the xbox 360 more for games

"In my opinion, this box delivers the best bluray player performance around. For the price, you also get a media player and gaming capabilities. I would have bought it for playing movies alone, so everything else is a bonus. This box paired with a projector make for an amazing movie experience on my 14' screen!"

"sony did a fabulous job on the playstation 3. i really like video systems and this system tops all the other video game system. i dont like the price but, it has the best video system graphics i ever seen in my entire life. i would really recommend this to all my friends"

What's not so great: not enough of system exclusive games yet

"great system the blue rey alone is worth the buy,some con's would be the fact that every new game has to be loaded to play so you can't just throw it in and go, also even though it's getting "much better" there online network needs some improvement, btu on the brite side it's free!! the games in high def are absolutly amazing, and the dualshock controler is great. you can also buy or rent movies to watch online which is cool for a change of pace. bottom line great syestem, and with it's ability to upgrade online there's no limit to how great the system could be!!"

What's not so great: graphics are bad if you dont have an HDTV

"this is an incredible gaming system. the graphics are good if you have an HDTV otherwise if you have a standard definition tv the graphics arent very amazing. wireless controllers are great. looks very futuristic like in its design. loads of meamory space and you dont have the hassle of all the memory cards it is all built in. but the built in memory is somewhat bad because you cant take the memory out like you would with a memory card and put the memory card in another playstation. overall it is great and has some bad things about it but it is not very bad"

What's great about it: The most advanced gaming system on the planet
What's not so great: Is not the old 80GB

"I've been wating to buy the PS3 from the time it was realeased and just got it this September. I was not dissipointed the system performs like a dream with graphics out of this world!
The reson I gave it only four stars is that it lacks the exter ports and most of all the backwards compatibility.
Other than that the system is a five, the blueray alone would cost the the same amount, the playstation network is free (vs. Xbox live), it's got bluetooth, wireless internet, a media player and a photo viewer.
One thing that dose bother me is that like the PSP the black gloss finish is hard if not impossible to keep clean."

"i got the the 60gb ps3 in august of 2007, and i haven't had a problem yet. and i don't get why everyone says xbox live is better than the psn, but its pretty much the same thing. the graphics are AMAZING! almost every game supports 1080p hi-def, and its very good that you don't have to spend $100 on a wireless adapter for a xbox 360, the ps3 has built in Wi-Fi. also it is very quiet and doesn't get hot, or overheat. the trophy system is very good and once sony releases Playstation Home Xbox won't have a chance of beating that. overall the ps3 is an amazing system and a great buy."

"The Playstation 3 is the king of video game systems. It is so great to watch movies with such great clarity and play games that are so real looking. The games are great and fun to play by yourself and also online. Plus, there is not many glitches in gameplay so you dont get frustrated. The only problem is that to unleash all of the power of the ps3 you need a tv with 1080p, which we know are not cheap but thats all right it's worth every cent!"

"I got the 60G and I will charrish it with my live. I love it. if you compare the xbox 360 to the PS3 the PS3 will come out as the winner they even proved it.. The best thing I like is that the xbox 306 is only for gaming and online gaming when the PS3 is for the gaming and online gaming but it can do internet to. plus the BLUE-RAY that just adds the the bundle. If you cant decide weather u want the PS3 or Xbox 360 I would definitly say the PS3..."

What's great about it: Graphics, Games, and "Cool Factor"
What's not so great: Non with the system, but I wish a few other "perks" came with it.

"I'm not a 'hard-core' gamer, at least not during the 'school year', but I do enjoy losing myself in games. Having said that, I love this PS3. The graphics are stunning. I have a 27" HD (1080i) TV and I was blown away when I first connected the HDMI cable (which did not come with the system) to the PS3. It is light years beyond my PS2.
I also like the following: my PSP is compatble with the system, the free online network (with demos, games, movies, TV shows, etc), the Blu-ray player (which I still have not tried out yet, but I can't wait to try out), it is automatically wireless, and the wireless, sixaxis rumble controllers are awesome!
I debated for months about whether to remain loyal to Sony (I've owned a Playstation, a PS2, and, as previously mentioned, a PSP) or to jump ship get a XBOX 360. While the 360 seems to be vastly more popular, I have no regrets about getting this system (which was a surprise gift from my lovely girlfriend). I like the system's potential, the sleekness of it, and the fact that it (so far) is error free. Thus, I would recommend this game console to anyone. My only wish is that Sony would throw in a few 'freebies' with the console like maybe the Blu-ray remote, a game (even if it is a low-end game or one the 'greatest hits' games), or maybe a free blu-ray movie."

"This is one amazing slice of technological capabilities. This machine allowed me to browse the internet, hold thousands of song, movies and games. The online store made it easier to see new games, and downloads. The updates were the most of the hassle i had with the machine due to how long they took. But in game modes the graphics were incredible, clear, and the sounds was astonishing. Overall this machine has really opened up my gaming experience and id stick with this machine and its unlimited online play."

"I am not a hardcore fan of some gaming console, but i do definately consider myself a gamer. i do own, ps2, ps3, x-box 360, super nintendo, atari, sega genesis etc. and had a wii for 6 hrs then returned it back to the store and got my money back. honestly by far comparing ps3 and x-box360. my ps3 never gave my any problems, never froze up or anything, on the other hand the x-box360 froze up many times and one time it just did not loaded up at all.. i do like the online on x-box better then ps3, both are really good systems, if you can live without halo3 you do not need to buy xbox360. mostly 75% of xbox titles are also available for ps3. some games like metal gear solid4 is only available on ps3. so you might have to sacrifice a little. Get a PS3. thats it. Period. in a long run your ps3 will last you longer than xbox360."

What's not so great: A bit slow on loading games and Videos

"Reading the existing reviews you can tell the gamers from the Bluray folks. The gamers are not happy about the PS3 not being backward compatible with PS2 games and the Bluray folks don’t care. I feel I fall in the middle of the group. I bought the PS3 for the Bluray feature and the gaming system is a bonus. I have read all the comparisons and reviews I could find about all the Bluray players up to the 600 dollar range and most of the reviews compare them to the PS3. Why because it is still one of the best Bluray players for the money. It also up-scales standard DVDs quite well, so well in my opinion I don’t feel the need to spend a lot of money up front to replace my old movies with new Bluray ones. I have it attached via a HDMI cable to a Samsung LN52A750 TV I just purchased and the combo is just amazing. I have used it to store many of my favorite music CDs and have also used the Internet function to review fun stuff online. Quite a multifunctional machine!

The gaming portion is also fun and has excellent graphics. We have purchased GranTurismo 5 to start with for the family and have borrowed a couple first shooter games. The game selection is a bit lacking at this time but I hear it will expand by quite a bit by Christmas. The fact is not backwards compatible is no real big deal. It did not work all that great with a number of the games and for the extra hundred you can just get a PS2 that works with all the games and correctly. Just one mans opinion."
