What's great about it: Blu-ray, online play is free, graphics, games, the internet browser
What's not so great: The updates so take a while but thats okay they do help, finger print magnet

"Let me just say that I just got this and at the perfect time because I got Guitar Hero World Tour band kit for less than $30 with the purchase of a PS3 so thank you Best Buy for having amazing deals.
I hear so many people putting down the PS3 and that just sickens me. My brother had a 360 and it died in 7 months from "The Red Ring Of Death" They say this thing overheats easily and that is not the case. Me and my friends played it all evening, night, morning, and a little in the afternoon. Almost 20 HOURS without being turned off once. It wasn't even hot and it froze once during a Youtube video about 14 hours in. All you gotta do is hold down the power button until it beeps. Don't turn it off in the back it might break something and won't let you play any disc.
The online play is amazing. People complain about how it sucks but it is better than the 360. You want to know why? IT IS FREE! I have played both and they are the same except you pay for the 360. So why pay for something you could have for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The graphics are phenomenal and there are great exclusives like inFAMOUS, LittleBigPlanet, Pacific Rift, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Resistance and so much more.
I love the blu-ray the headsets and the free wi-fi. I use the internet browser to go on Youtube and stuff.
The controllers are nice and I love them.
I love the PlayStation Store. Let's you download games and demos and wallpapers. I already downloaded Resistance, Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, UFC UnDisputed 2009, and NBA 2K9.

The only bad thing I can say is that you may have to update your firmware or update your games and this can take from seconds... to hours but they do help your system and your game play. Also the sleek finish is a finger print magnet so clean regularly. So far at least 25 hours have been put in and I have only owned for 2 days...

P.S- All of you that complain about how there is no backwards compatibility you are liars. There is something you can download on the PlayStation store under add-ons that lets you play. Also this version is actually 2nd best in backwards compatibility. And if you wanted to play PS2 games then maybe you shouldn't have updated to a PS3 you should just keep playing your PS2! The PS3 should be meant for PLAYSTATION 3 GAMES AND NOT FOR YOUR PS2 GAMES. JUST KEEP YOUR PS2!!!!!"

What's great about it: Great when it works...which is usually while in warranty....
What's not so great: Problems w/blu ray not reading discs---wide spread problem!

"When they ask if you want the extended warranty---say YES. Once out of the 1 year warranty Sony will not help you. They charge 150 bucks to fix minor problems that should not go wrong. Do a search on this subject and you will find hundreds and hundreds of people complaining of the same thing. If you are willing to take a chance and purchase the ps3...the graphics are great. I just feel that being less than 1 1/2 years old and for the amount you pay for this it should last much longer."

"The PS3 doesn't fail and it comes with built-in WiFi, Bluray, etc. UNLIKE THE XBOX 360. It can handle games that are extremely detailed also unlike the XBOX 360. Also you don't need to have a HDTV to enjoy the details, but it's nice to have one. These reasons and many others are why you should get a PS3."

"The PS3, by my experience, a great console.The Blu-Ray driver makes graphics insanely reallist and network connection is very easy to obtain, but the ps3 has a down-side:The games price, in my country, they're very expensive.And there is one more problem, the so called Y.L.O.D. or the Yellow Line Of Doom, know by gamers as the end of they're PS3s, one power loss or overheating and you lose it, fortunally,this may be hard to happen.But for my final veredict:I would give the PS3 the note 9.3, for these small problems, but I totally recommend it for everyone."

What's great about it: Media Storage, Blu-Ray Player, Easy To Connect To Internet.
What's not so great: No Backwards Compatibility, Possibility of Hard Drive Failure.

"I bought my ps3 a while back, and I must say, it gives me a very enjoyable gaming experience. It's a cheap Blu-Ray player, and it can hold photos, videos, and music. Most of the games available on the ps3 run very smooth. The only problem I have with this specific model, is that it does not support backwards compatibility, meaning that I can't play my old Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 games on it. Also, my ps3 has been through a hard drive failure, which was very hard to go through. I had to send my system in to Sony so that they can exchange it for me. Being out of the warranty, I had to pay Sony $150 for the exchange. I had lost all of my save games, photos, videos, music, and download-able content I had stored. It was very frustrating for me, but I was able to quickly get back into my games using my extra saves I had on my flash drive."

"blue ray player, free online subscription. Xbox 360 has none of these and will probably never have them. the graphics are better. that and xbox pretty much stopped making games for the first xbox once the 360 came out playstation is still making games for ps2. so just save a little bit more and buy the playstation."

"the ps3 80gb is completely silent compared to the 360s over the top loud fan noises. I recently just bought this and i have no complaints so far. $399 is pricey but figure it plays blu ray, free online play. you end up saving more money with the ps3 than the 360. Also, the quality of the hardware is better with Sony. There are also some great ps3 exclusives coming out like Heavy Rain, Agent, The Last Guardian, God of War 3, and InFamous. The games are only getting better."

"this is the best system you can buy. sure there arnt a lot of games for it, but evry game they have is awsome. dont listen to what others say, on how the 360 is better. the ps3 lasts about 7 to 8 years if treated good. the 360 lasts a year. if you are thinking of buying this system, save up for it because it is worthe every penny!!!!!!!!!!!!"

What's great about it: Very Quiet and Cool, Great Exclusives, Blu-Ray, Built-In Wi-fi, Very well built and exceptional piece of hardware.

"*I know its inevitable to compare this to the Xbox 360 but I must say I've owned an Xbox 360 since late 2006 and I am going to try and be as clear and unbiased as I can.
I'll start by saying I'm very satisfied with the Playstation 3. I've had one for a few months now and put several hours into all it's features. Except for Home, which is an online social experience that isn't something I can get into but it's really just an extra feature that you can completely ignore and it won't make a difference. The Internet Browser is nice to have and works goods for the most part. I found I couldn't send e-mails and some sites didn't load up properly. It also freezes up once in awhile and I have to turn off the PS3. But honestly thats not why anyone is going to buy this so let's get to the most important part: the games.
Contrary to popular belief Playstation has started getting many great exclusives over the past year and half with more to come this and next year. Theres MGS4, Resistance 1 & 2, Ratchet and Clank Future Series, Killzone 2, MAG, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, FF14 Online, MLB the Show, Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 1 & 2, and more. And you also get all the multi-platform hits like Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2, GTA4, Burnout Paradise and so on. A widely held belief is that these games are actually worse on Playstation which was true for games that came out late 06-07 but now the only decision to make is which controller and online service do you prefer?
Speaking of Online, it's completely free and while it lacks a cross-game party chat and invite system, which is annoying, I haven't had any problems with it that weren't on Xbox Live as well. Since I upgraded my router I can jump on Killzone 2, find dozens of games to join and play for hours on end with no noticeable lag or disconnects. Built-in Wi-fi 802.11b & g is awesome. I should warn you that the PS3 only uses bluetooth and USB headsets. There are none that plug straight into the controller like the Xbox 360.
As for performance the PS3 is incredibly well built. It runs so much quieter and cooler than Xbox 360 but as long as you're not getting the RROD on your XBOX that may not make a difference. It looks very sharp but does attract dust easily and when set horizontally looks like a techy George Foreman Grill. The biggest tech advantage PS3 has over Xbox 360 is Blu-ray. Anyone with at least some basic knowledge of the two formats knows DVD was created in the SD era and is incredible for SD content including games and movies. However Blu-ray is the only available format made specifically for HD. It has over 5 times the storage space and has 6 times the speed for transferring and processing digital information. What does this mean to gamers? Well put simply PS3 exclusives tend to have better graphics, run smoother with way more stuff going on in the game and behind the scenes as well, and with the right sound system are capable of higher quality sound up to Dolby Digital 7.1 surround and DD True HD. Plus Blu-Rays are stronger than DVD's. Besides fingerprints the only way to harm a Blu-Ray is if you do it on purpose. Oh, and Sony left the decision on Custom Soundtracks up to the developer apparently because few games support in-game custom soundtracks. Very dissapointing.

Overall the PS3 is my favorite current gen system. The Hardware is incredible for a home console, Online works very well and is free, Better exlusives (my opinion), and Blu-Ray coupled with the cell processor has tremendous potential not only now but throughout the planned 10 year lifespan. Hope this review gave a helpful, unbiased (though very long) review of the Playstation 3."

"Seeing as theirs not a single good game on this console(which makes it suck even more) and you get blu ray....yay im going to pay an extra 12 bucks on every movie I get, what a deal! Also the Ps3 got absolutely destroyed at E3 2009 and couldn't even compete with microsoft or Nintendo... Do yourselves a favor dont buy this console its not even worth 60 bucks, if you want the console with the best graphics/games and....everything buy the XBOX 360!"
