Price was good, specs were good, needed a new power supply asap so I got this one. Worked well for a few days, come home from work and my computer wouldn't turn on. After checking all of my connections and replacing the power cord, I hooked up my old PSU, which thankfully I hadn't thrown away, and the PC fired up just fine. Hopefully nothing else was taken when the power supply died (crosses fingers). Taking this sucker back today and getting a corsair!!
What's great about it: Ultra quiet, fewer cables to use
What's not so great: died after a few days.

I bought this as a replacement for my BFG Tech 550W that burned up after 2 years. This looked like a great deal and specs were good, but I wish i had read the reviews first. Installation was easy, and it looked great. It worked fine until i started to play any game. I have an Asus P5QC, core 2 quad Q9550, corsair H50 water cooler, 3 3.5 wd drives, and a bfg tech Geforce GTX 260 Maxcore 55. This ran fine with my old 550W ps for 2 years, but with this supposed 850w, it couldn't even run a game for more than 60 seconds.
What's not so great: Didn't work properly for me

Spent an hr of my evening hooking it up and meticulously hiding the wires best I could and then.....nothing...ZIp Zilch Notta!!! Re-installed my wimpy factory 400-watt and it fired right up....taking it back to BestBuy tomorrow....Just got done ordering a new Corsair from Newegg!!!
This saddens me as I have always been a big believer in Thermaltake!!!!

Worked fine until it didn't after about 8 months. Only comes with three pci-e cables which is weird. 2 x 6 and one 8 pin. 8 pin motherboard cable is also pretty short if you have a case where the PSU is on the bottom, you will probably need an extension. I just barely stretched it in Antec P180 mini.
Bottom line, it died, and that sucks.
What's not so great: Gave out too soon.

I was happy with this unit for two years and then it died. Thermaltake customer service sent me the RMA procedure, which requires a receipt from the place of purchase before they will honor the warranty. Since I purchase a lot of hardware for both personal and business use, I generally do not keep receipts and am used to manufacturers honoring their warranty without a receipt as long as the manufacture date is within the warranty period (5 years for this particular unit).
Luckily Best Buy was able to provide the receipt so that I can RMA this unit (at my expense for shipping both ways since they only cover shipping back for a limited time, not 5 years).
This will be my last Thermaltake product as I prefer to deal with a company that wants to stand behind their product rather than hide behind conditions written in a warranty that they know will not be read until the product ceases to work.
What's great about it: Provides power for a while
What's not so great: Customer service/warranty requirements.

Just got this PSU at my local best buy to replace a brand new OCZ 700W that didn't have another set of 6pin PCI-E adapters. I just got another evga gtx470 to add to my existing 470 and needed more plugs.
This thing installed fine in my case, no problems there. The modular setup is nice, i used almost all of it however because I needed a ton of cables--Also running 2 1tb WD black drives in raid-0, and an intel x25 120gb ssd, haven't noticed any problems with the power levels at all.
Would recommend Thermaltake, haven't had any issues to speak of with them. Will keep this updated!

The reason I gave this PSU a 1 star was because as soon as I installed and attempted to turn my computer on, I heard a pop, some light followed by some smoke. I have installed PSUs before, so I do not believe it was my doing. I am sure this is just a one time thing, but this is my first and only time of using this item, so it is sitting at a 100% fail rate.

Yeah, lots of watts but still wouldn't POST my motherboard. The truth is, it takes more than wattage to run a computer. This power supply with all it's gaming POWER didn't supply enough CURRENT to turn on my bare-bones computer. All I had in it was the mother board, 1 DIMM of RAM, 1 hard drive and the CPU and it still couldn't even turn it on. The power supply tested good and the same setup fired right up with another 500W power supply that I had available for testing.
On the up-side, it's one of the few PSUs that I tried that had plenty of cables and they were long enough to make installation relatively easy and flexible. It is also one of the few that has enough PCI-E rails to run dual Radeon HD5830s in CrossFire.
The bottom line: check the -12V amperage and the +5V amperage. This one is a bit skimpy, so it might not supply enough current to start your computer. Plenty of power for the video cards, but if it can't power the motherboard then that doesn't do you any good.
I wouldn't recommend it because it's a poor combination: if you're building a beast, you need more current that this can deliver; if you're not building a beast, you don't need as much power as this can supply (buy something cheaper).
What's great about it: Modularity, lots of cables, long cables, plenty of power, IT HAS ENOUGH CABLES TO RUN DUAL CARDS IN CROSSFIRE!!
What's not so great: Too expensive for something that doesn't deliver enough current

the fan on my 550w ThermalTake got noisy. i bought the 850 as a "killer upgrade" and the cabling for my "old pc" wasn't compatible.
Best Buy was VERY good about swapping out for a smaller but newer model which had the right cabling. I'm satisfied with ThermalTake and Best Buy, and sorry i wasn't more careful checking the connection compatibility before purchasing.
What's great about it: powerful, quiet
What's not so great: wide range of connectivity "standards" between models.

I have had this for a few months now and have no issues with it at all. That can always change like anything else. Some things to look for though with this power supply. There are two versions of this. One has a quad-rail design. I believe this is the version that people are having some problems with. There is also a single rail version. Which is the one I have. Seems to be more reliable from user reviews I have seen at other websites.
Lots of cables to run any kind of SLI/Crossfire system. Runs quiet and cool on my machine, but currently not really pushing it.
System specs: Intel Q6600 @ 3ghz -- MSI Cyclone 460GTX @ 900mhz / 1800shaders / 2050 mem. Seagate 500gb and a WD 500gb hard drives. Two Lite-On DVD/CD burners. 3x120mm case fans and 120mm CPU fan.
What's great about it: 69amp single rail version is solid/quiet/cool
What's not so great: quad rail version is a coin toss. A bit pricey compared to stores.

I bought this PSU because I have had good luck with thermaltake in the past and it ran well for about a month then it stopped working for no apparent reason. We returned the first and got a new one which ran great for about two months. This morning I found it DOA and will be purchasing a new one and avoiding thermaltake in general after this. 1 time, things happen 2 times and it's a trend, the fact that I see other reviews with the same experience suggests a real problem with either design or quality control.
What's great about it: Nice modular design, quiet opperation.
What's not so great: Replacing it every 2 months when it inevitably fails.

when i upgraded my videocard, i forgot to order a new psu, and it was a friday night before a 3 day weekend. this psu has good reviews on other sites, and i have had tt cpu fans and a tt psu. the modular system is helpful to prevent overcrowding in the case. the cables are long, varied and braided. the psu is quiet, stable and has plenty of juice for 8g ram, quad core, 2 hd, 2 dvd, ati 5850. nevertheless, there are better psu's in this price range elsewhere.
What's great about it: cables, quiet
What's not so great: price

Ok first off the guy that wrote a review on Feb 28 gave an unfair review. ITS NOT THE PSU's FAULT your bad case makes it hard for inexperienced people to do an very easy job. That is the case.
I have been using this PSU for over a year now and it has served me well to date. Few things you should know....the two attached cables are the PCI-E 8 pin and 24 pin motherboard. The modular/removable are the 8 pin mobo, 6 pin pci-e's, molex, and sata power cables. This thing honestly makes enough watts and amps to run two high end video cards with a healthy overclock.
This is almost on par with Corsair, I would buy another one. If you are building a high end multi-gpu machine you may want to go with a Corsair TBH.
What's great about it: High wattage and amps - good for high end systems
What's not so great: cables could be a little longer, especially the 8 pin mobo
I would recommend this to a friend!

The first RX-850 I bought got it home and installed into the chassis and found out it was dead. Returned it to Best Buy and they replaced it after they confirmed that it was dead. Installed the replacement and I was up and running that was less than a year ago.
My computer is used primarily for a photography business. Reliability is very critical. Got back from a big shoot and found the computer was dead. Dug in and its the power supply.
I will eventually send in the supply for warranty repair but right now the system must run, so a new power supply will bought today and it will not be a Thermaltake.
My rating for Compatibility/Features is high because the cable system is very nice. A little lower on Ease of Installation only because replacing the power supply in my situation requires removal of many other components above and beyond the power supply.
I feel Thermaltake has some real quality control issues.
What's great about it: Nice cables
What's not so great: Short Life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pros:
Enough power to run an overclocked core2, and crossfire 4870s
Modular design is nice
Cons:
Some of the cables aren't modular
Only 2 PCI-E six pin cables (need 4 for most modern dual vid card setups)
Died after six months of use
Overall I can't recommend this power supply due to the lack of six-pin PCI-E connectors and the poor build quality that resulted in premature failure.
What's great about it: Plenty of power, modular
What's not so great: Died
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
