What's great about it: Fast, looks great
What's not so great: Struggled to get it working

"This was my replacement for a replacement (Cisco) for a Netgear router.

It is easy to get the wired internet working, but there are a few things you need to know to get the best out of the wireless side. First, in the web browser settings page, the channel it uses is set to 'Auto', and believe me, it does not provide the best speed. I had to go through the channels and find a fast one (they are all different speed, depending on various factors including interference) and eventually found one that allowed me 270Mbps out of a possible 300, which is a great speed (use the 20/40Mhz setting on the same page, instead of just the 20Mhz in order to double your speed!).

Also, the same browser access page is NOT PROTECTED by a password (it's blank at first) and it does not prompt you to change the password either. You have to take the initiative an change it to something secure, otherwise anyone in range can change it and hijack your router.

I had to call tech support (based in India, evidently) to get info on the wireless speed and all they did was have me change the channels after creating a new SSID (network name).

If you know a little bit about setting up these things, you'll be good. The unit looks great, with bright blue/amber lights and of course, a USB port for external storage that you can access over the network, but you don't really need it since you can access the computers on your personal networks' hard drives anyway.
I WOULD recommend this router to my friends (who will then call me to help them set it up, no doubt). I've had Netgear, then Linksys (Cisco) and now this one, and out of the three, this is the one I could actually get to work as promised.

What's great about it: easy to setup, Reliable, out performance all router in price range, looks good
What's not so great: The status lights are too bright

"What I love about this product is that it is very stable! I have owned it for about month in a half. had to reset it once "disconnect power cable wait 10-15 seconds and reconnect". this product is always ON as well as my modem. there are five people in my house that are at random times using the internet. and me that I am constantly downloading, and sending documents.
It is very easy to setup, using the supplied disc. I set this product up on computers running on Windows Vista, and Windows XP.

The Range of this and other N routers are not super great, you get about an extra 10-30 feet compared to a good G router (for my comparison am using my old Linksys wrt54gs with speed boost) I am also testing in my home with a lot walls, and all neighbors have routers as well that interfere with the signals.
The key difference between a G router and an N router is that N router can transmit a lot more data per second!!! even at long distance, this router is sends a lot of data (good for downloading movies, or music) while other g router were sending good enough for internet use only.....

Lets talk about what I was doing. I was sending the signal to 140 feet open air only a small statue was in the way (which made a difference, it blocked the line of sight from router and reciever "belkin wireless N+ usb adapter..sku 8993903") with the line of sight blocked I would put the adapter"reciever" in a corner of a window; I could not get the internet to work. neither on the belkin, nor linksys wrt160n which I tested before this product... the only one that ever worked was my unstable netgear 108mb G router without mimo (mimo are the ones that come with multiple internal antennas). after toying around with setting, I actually went as far as to boost the power setting on the Linksys wrt160n to more then double, I saw improvements but not significant, meaning where I need the signal it would not work. I never used a Linksys usb adapter as a receiver (this statement is to show it was not a fair comparison, the belkin had better conditions and setup). I used a Netgear adapter that goes in as a pci.with long cables which I placed near the corner of the window (It’s an N adapter). WHEN I SETUP THE BELKIN ROUTER AND ADAPTER IN THE SAME LOCATION AS THE OTHER 2 ROUTERS "IT DID NOT WORK" but because my adapter was a usb I was able to extend the cable to the other side of the window to avoid the statue "which isn't that big" and bang great reception, 4 bars out of 5. speed as fast as being next to the router!

In my research I found out that Dlink not sure what type was like the top dog (it had three external antennas), and I found out it didn't do much better then this Belkin router, I also noticed that in there test they tested several product Dlink, Belkin, linksys, netgear, both N routers and G routers. this test was done last year. In these test linksys was a little out of shape on the distance performance, both dlink and belkin did very good, very similar. while I read the article I noticed that Dlink was worth 150 dollars and Belkin was worth 90 dollars... and the sweet part about belkin is that it used the same chip set as Dlink, no wounder why it did so good... I am not saying that linksys is horrible.. it just did worst then Dlink and belkin, but better then Netgear at near 200 ft distance... thats where all routers stopped performing.

One thing that bothers me about this product is that the LED status lights, are high intensity "like HIDs of a Lexus or Mercedes" why it bothers me so much is because I have it in my room at the highest point possible. And when I go to sleep and shut off the lights I can clearly see the lines of my hands "I can do palm readings..LOL".. it was so bright that I put an obstacle that was dark in front of it, and light bounced off of it and reflected to a near by mirror "which hit me right in the face!".. so by the second night I ended putting a piece of tape. Well 2 pieces masking tape which light went through it, then (black) duck tape on top of it! So technically I don’t have any status lights!!! Like if I ever look at them. (Either my internet, or my network works or it doesn't). I let my computer tell me the status.

Oh just incase someone is going to follow in my foot steps, with the tape.. Reason I didn't put duck tape first is because the glue that most if not all use stays on the object you put it on , and its hard or annoying to take off. So i used masking tape first, which eventually will leave its glue on the object just not as bad as duck tape!. And the black tape was for cosmetic...you can not see it... I also cut it to just cover the lights!

Note: please don’t get confused with N routers, and G routers: G router tend to work with more power, and you typically see that at X distance a stronger signal coming from your g router then from an N router... but with no data transmitting!!!!

Note: For those of you that have a G router and want to change to an N router for range, you might want to do some research, and just change the antenna on G router for a parabolic one" like the ones found with satellites like Direct tv (obviously smaller, well that depends on what you want to do)" I heard that it concentrates the power of the signal into one direction!.. It makes sense you can even make it yourselves, they look weird thou… this is a cheaper way of doing things… because my setup cost me well over 100 dollars total that included the N router at $59.99 dollars and N adapter at $69.99.

If I have any problems with this item later on I will follow up on this Review.
I am very satisfied with this product. Up til today!

What's great about it: Initial set up was not too difficult
What's not so great: Would not hold connection

"I never could get this router to hold onto the connection with my cable modem. I don't know if it does that just with a Time-Warner set up but I would not recommend it to anyone in my area. It was a nightmare. It installed really easy and I thought I was good to go but I spent many, many hours in the following 2 weeks either on the phone with someone or the others tech services or rebooting both my cable modem and the router several times (each time) and this would occur just about every day - had to go back to factory settings each time just to get it to talk to the modem again. I finally realized it was a lost cause so I returned it and got a Linksys. With all the time I spent trying to get it functioning correctly, it was a very expensive experience/failure."

What's great about it: Easy router setup at a good price
What's not so great: USB port management software does not support Win7.

"This router seemed to be the perfect solution for us. We have a wireless network that we wanted to connect a networked hard drive to. The router powered up properly and the software installed with ease (almost automatically). When attempting to install the USB hard drive through the router the hard drive was not recognized and we discovered through trial and error (as the documentation did not provide this information) that the hard drive had to be connected to the USB port and then the router powered up. At this point the light on the router panel indicated that a drive was connected to it. We then installed (and ran) the provided software (Storage Manager) to have the drive recognized through the router on our computer - but this was not successful. We went to the web site, downloaded a more current version (although there wasn't a specific version for Win 7), and still no success. Belkin's website lists several hard drives which are not compatible with this router, but none of the hard drives we used were on the list. We contacted Belkin support via their web site and todate have not received a response or acknowledgement (10 days) which we feel is unacceptable service.
We also tried several different drives which we know function properly, and had 1 drive impact the router where our wireless network wouldn't turn on.
At this point we don't know if this is a Win 7 issue or not and have since returned the item due to lack of support from Belkin.

What's great about it: looks
What's not so great: too difficult to install

"Returned item after spending 2 hours on phone with tech reps trying to set it up. After all that time the best solution the rep had was to manually configure my laptop, which precludes it from automatically connecting to any other wireless network-something it has always done with my current G netgear router set up. Additionally, I was told I had to "monitor the network" for the next 48 hours; this seemed odd to me as it should just work without being "monitored." I immediately returned it and bought an N router from netgear instead. installation with netgear router was a breeze!"

What's great about it: Informative indcator lights, n+, USB port
What's not so great: Install was a little troublesome

"I have had this router for 2 weeks. Initial wizard install would not allow router to connect to modem correctly. I have dsl modem in bridge mode. I had to go into the bridged modem (Verizon) and release the ip address that was assigned to my old router. I went into the new router interface and changed subnet from default of 192.168.2 to 192.168.3 -- I have Phone Power voip service and their adapter is configured for 192.168.3.3 address. Set connection type manually in Router and rebooted all and all worked fine. I then went into router and configured wireless security. Wireless works fine.

I had one laptop that had vista that would not correctly configure itself and identified my router as unidentified network. I would get ip address assignment but no communication. -- Known vista problem but no definitive solution for this that I could find -- you would think at this stage of life cycle for Vista Microsoft would have a solution. My solution was to install Windows 7 which operated just fine. I have yet to test the USB port but will be trying it out soon. I do wish the warranty was longer than one year. I previously purchased linksys routers, but with the one year warranty they shortly expire after the warranty period -- Linksys is overly inflated in many respects in my opinion.

This is a good product and the price was decent at $99. I would purchase this product again.

What's great about it: Easy set-up, good wireless performance.
What's not so great: DHCP broken, so LAN does not work.

"If all you need to do is connect various devices to the Internet this router works fine and setup was a breeze. If, however, those devices need to talk to one another it is almost completely non-functional! The DHCP server is totally broken. My various devices could connect to the wireless and wired sides with no problems, and Internet access worked fine, but the devices could not necessarily talk to one another. Viewing the DHCP client list would show only a (seemingly random) subset of the connected devices. Connected devices not on that list could still access the WAN with no problems, but could not see each other (or other devices on the LAN). Hence my media server and backup setups that worked fine with my old Motorola 802.11g router ceased to function. I'm returning it today."

What's great about it: Decent wireless bandwidth, ok range
What's not so great: Setup not so easy (or maybe I'm just stupid)

"Decent router, significantly better than my old 802.11g linksys. Setup was a bit on the nuisance side, until I realized I just had to reset my cable modem (if you have a Motorola cable modem, you have to login to the modem at 192.168.100.1 to reset it). I wish it had been mentioned somewhere in the documentation that if you had a cable modem previously working with a router, you needed to reset the modem. This was not something I really would have thought had to be done. Once that was done setup was pretty much no hassle.

I have had some problems hooking a external drive up to the modem, although this was not super-important to me. Probably could resolve the issues if I gave it some effort.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. This modem was no problem compared to the D-link 655 I had tried previously, messed around with one of those for several hours only to find out via their tech support it was a dud. Every wireless router I have ever used has been glitchy in one aspect or another. This one (so far) has been less glitchy than most.

What's great about it: Snap to install (3 minutes)
What's not so great: N/A

"I am a pc geek from hell and a avid gamer. Perfomance with a minimum difference is not acceptable. I bought NETGEAR - RangeMax Dual-Band Wireless-N and took it back after 4 days. I have used Every router made, expensive and cheap. Linkysys, Cisco, Net Gear, D-link and the only one I love the most Belkin. Belkin through me for a tail spin, I was in aw of it's performance, speed and distance and then the price was incredible. Do not waste your money on expesnive routers when the best is simple and affordable. It is also the only router to make it for years and not crash.
NETGEAR - RangeMax Dual-Band Wireless-N was not a steady speed, it flucuated mega, especially while my son gamed. Voip cut in and out.
Once I installed the Belkin all problem solved, Wizard was awesome and a snap. Super simple for the layman pc person. 10 stars for Belkin.
Also wanted to ad there tech support is superb, and it is 24 hours. I only called them to see how the service was and they rocked and it was 1am.

What's great about it: Extremely simple to install.

"This router is fantastic. I am not sure what all of the complaints are for. You need almost no knowledge to set this up. Once connected to your computer and modem, it walks you through step by step on installing the wireless connection, chosing your security code, etc.

The speed is great. You do need to m ake sure your wireless systems can do N+ routing, otherwise it will default to standarg G routing. PS3 download times, Netflex downloading times, etc are amazing! So much faster than my previous Linksys G router.

What's not so great: Router has security flaw

"This router appears to have a major security hole! The router's admin module/pages are accessible via the router's ISP assigned public IP address! Yes, and I don't mean access via the default 192.168.2.1 internal network address. Therefore, anyone with this router is at risk from having hackers login and change the router's setup. Also, making this all the worst, the default router password is blank! Try it out if you don't believe me. Find your IP address (google "my ip address") and stick the address in your browser, and see if it the Belkin setup page appears. If so, anyone on the internet can access your router. Now I wonder if the attached storage drive is also vulnerable! I have firmware 3.00.15"

What's great about it: Constitantly Unreliable Device
What's not so great: Wireless data storage doesn't work, poor speed wireless mode

"Overview: Purchased based on positive user reviews. Not so easy to install and use out of the box. The wireless storage feature never worked. After 3 months time the router is now DEAD and has to be shipped back for warranty replacement.
Overall- If you like a faulty modem that never really worked well out of the box and you enjoy wasting your time on the phone with tech support then this is the modem for you! I'M Not satisfied with this router and I Would Not Recommend it at all to anyone.

The long story...
I bought this router a four months ago, hoping to increase my range in my apartment (it didn't) as well as intending to utilize the wireless storage device feature (I could never get this to work and eventually, I believe, was the cause of the modems demise).
Out of the box the router seemed to connect and work fine with my MacBook Pro, after adjusting some network settings. I had to try a few different methods to get my iPhone to connect but eventually succeeded. I eventually called tech-support to make sure I had all the settings correct as well as security. This took over an hour on the phone and they helped me configure the security settings. (I believe to WEP 64bit)

After about a month the internet started to act weird and pages started to take longer than usual to load. I figured it was internet provider traffic or something, but Not my new router. But the problem got worse. Then the iPhone started to have connectivity issues. I did an update on the phone and it seemed to work ok. Then one day the MacBook Pro would not connect to the internet in wireless mode. Hooking it directly to the modem worked fine. A call customer service and after SEVERAL hours of tinkering with settings (I've memorized 192.168.2.1 forever in my brain!) we managed to get the router to work. They suggested I change the channel on the router and checked a few other router settings. But afterward, it still acted funky, sometimes taking over a minute just to load, say, yahoo or google home page.

I kind of lived with and regretted my choice in a router. It wasn't cheap and didn't really work that well and still the wireless storage feature was a difficult to configure. I saved to buy a USB 2.0 external drive and purchased on recently as well as a Netbook running windows 7 starter.

Out of the box the netbook would not connect to the wireless router. I tried utilizing information from on-line forums as well as the netbook manufacturers website. Still no luck. So having a million other things to do on my day off I decided to tackle this problem first.
8.5 hours later I am left with a DEAD ROUTER! Words cannot express the sheer dis-satisfaction with Belkin customer tech support. I had five separate call ins over the course of the day. The first time, we managed to get the netbook to work with the Belkin. We had to reconfigure the key code. Then about an hour after the first call the router "froze" and wouldn't work with any computer or phone in the house. Second call- we managed to resolve the issue by Re-booting everything. While I had them on the phone I asked them to help me make sure that the router was set up for optimum performance and security. The guy on the phone reviewed all settings. I asked if I needed to download and install the firmware update, as I had noticed there was one on the tech webpage. He strongly urged me to do so. I did and once it was installed the router STOPPED WORKING! So much for updates. This was probably the beginning of the end of the router, btw.
Third call: Tech guy said I should NOT have installed the firmware update! Ok, so much for continuity. At this point I had spend 5 hours on the phone with Belkin. I was not happy. After much "tinkering" and trying different things on the router page (192.168.2.1), rebooting everything and testing every single ethernet cable in my house as well as the modem itself we managed to get the router to work with both the MacBook and the Netbook. Then I asked about the wireless data storage. The tech guy gave me specific directions to just plug in a flash drive and it would work no problem. He rushed me off the line before I could test it with him on the phone. So, I made the big mistake of plugging in my flash drive, guess what? It didn't work!
Call number four: tech person had difficulty hearing me, even though I could hear her perfectly. I called back-
Call number 4.5- Why doesn't my router work?? The tech guy I got this time was having a difficult time giving instructions and this call took much longer than the others. In the end I had to use the "Go" tab in the finder window, type in some special code and then I was able to see my flash drive in the finder window! He said in order to disconnect the drive I simply was to just remove it. Ok! finally, I had the wireless network functioning and I could see and open files wirelessly from my flash drive. I ended the call.
I took a long awaited break for about 20 minutes. I unplugged the flash drive and now wanted to test the new external drive. I didn't even get to plug in the new drive. The internet page I had up suddenly reloaded to that default "There is no internet connection, please try again" prompt one gets when you try to load a webpage without internect connection. NOT GOOD.
I tried the simple things again; re-boot everything, check connections, etc. But no luck.
Call number FIVE to Belkin. This time I had enough. The first tech guy started in with the same thing: check cables, re-boot, check router status...but I really had enough. Obviously, this router is defective. So I got a supervisor with whom I did yet another thorough diagnostic to no avail. So, finally, 7 or 8 hours down the toilet and I have to swap out the router with a replacement. I had to give a credit card number in order to expedite things a little bit. Three to seven days shipping via UPS to get the replacement. They gave me an RMA # to return the defective item (on my dime) and then the charges for initial shipping and the item and taxes would be released.
I'm sure I'll have to spend countless hours on the phone again with tech support to get the replacement to work properly with my computers. Or maybe I'll just put it on eBay, cut my losses and get a more reliable router...any suggestions??
What a pain in the butt!
Belkin Routers are Unreliable, Poorly supported, Useless waste of space.

What's great about it: When it worked, it worked. But it never steadily worked.
What's not so great: Lost connection over and over again.

"The router lost its connection after any time spent away from and not active on the computer. I had to turn the Mac airport off and on each time to get it working again. Belkin's support site was of no help. This wasn't a random problem; many forums feature similar complaints. I returned the router and bought a different brand. The new router has worked flawlessly."

What's great about it: Very good wireless coverage
What's not so great: Drops wireless printers - NAS is unreliable.

"First of all, the NAS feature is so unreliable it's not worth using.

Second of all, it drops my Epson NX515 from the network all the time, requiring cycling power on the printer, and using up lots of ink. After troubleshooting with Epson, the conclusion was the problem is with the router.

To resolve these problems, Belkin tech support merely suggested installing the latest firmware - which I already had installed.

Well, I don't have time to work out Belkin's bugs for them. I returned this router to Best Buy (no hassle, thank you!) and got a Netgear N-300 from Best Buy. While the Netgear doesn't have NAS, it doesn't drop my wireless printer AT ALL. I am now a happy camper!

What's great about it: Opening the box to watching movies via my PS3 from Netflix instant... Less than 30 Minutes.
What's not so great: Went off sale before I could get in to purchase causing the price to jump $20.

"This is my first experience with a wireless router!

I picked this one because of the reviews it got along with its performance test data. This thing was VERY easy to get going. We went from opening the box to watching the movies in our Netflix 'instant que' through the PS3 in under 30 minutes.

Not once did I get that 'this is going to hijack my whole day'' feeling during its set up. Nor was I asked for information that wasn't available or to do anything that wasn't clearly explained. Never had the problem of being told to change a setting that I couldn't find.

Being new to wireless routers I can't put this as 'fact' because I have nothing to compare to but, I can't imagine a set up easier than the one I experienced with the Belkin N+!

The only thing that happened during installation that even came close to having me worried was when my PS3 noticed it was net connected... It surprised me by suggesting I download an update, which went flawlessly.

Setting the security aspect of this unit went like the rest of it... EASY!

I look forward to trying out the USB storage aspect of this unit very soon.

Oh, one other thought... My PS3 indicates that the signal strength is at 100%.

In closing I can tell you that the only negative aspect of this was that I didn't make it in to Best Buy in time to get the router while it was on sale. But, that was timing on my part and had nothing to do with the router. In fact, after seeing how easy set up was and how well it connects my PS3... The extra $20 I paid was money well spent in my opinion.

What's great about it: easy to set up, great external storage feature
What's not so great: range and speed

"this router is great for everything, if you are plugged into it via Ethernet, once you get about 10-15 feet away from the router using wi-fi B/G/N the signal drops significantly. It shot from 130+mbps down to between 5-1mbps. I can't believe i fell for the "great price" and wound up getting a bad product and dealing with it for as long as I did..

avoid if possible!!
