What's great about it: Easy web updates without power source via usb, excellent coverage. Auto learn function for false alarms works great
What's not so great: subscription for database service. Seeing you are assisting in creating the database it should be free.
Learns false alarms and updates database, the more you drive the smarter it gets. Good long distance coverage, gets sharper as speed increases and relaxes at low speeds with still plenty of time to react. Good features but would be nice if they included the bluetooth power source with purchase.

What's great about it: GPS learning of false alerts
After a month of use, I have found this detector to have excellent performance. The range is very good. The automatic storing of false alerts stemming from automatic doors and such is the primary reason to justify spending so much for the device. I would most likely not use a detector that alerts all the time for non-enforcement triggers. After driving past the shopping centers three times the unit displayed "stored" and no longer alerts to these alarms.
To gain the same range and sensitivity one would need to spend at least 1/2 the amount of this detector. But the false alerts would be unbearable. If you are in the market for a detector, this one is recommended!

What's not so great: codes are not clear
I think a better job of tech specs could have been written about the various alarms that go off. The suctions cups are also somewaht weak and the device fell off a couple of times. Otherwise, it was a great tool!

What's great about it: No more false alerts and awesome detection.
What's not so great: It is a little pricey.
To start, I never write reviews on products. However, this one I felt I needed to. Ive owned the 8500 and the 8500 X50 Black, and this is by far the best out of all of them. I haven't used it long enough to tell if the range is better than the X50 Black, however the biggest plus to this detector is being able to lock out the false alerts. I do most of my driving in the city where false alerts are really bad. After driving the same route everyday, you eventually learn which are real and which are fake. But, with this detector, you don't have to worry about them at all. You can rather let the detector learn which are false or you can lock them out yourself. The next time you drive past that false alert, you won't have to worry about the detector going off. Another great feature is that it often knows whether or not the signal is false or real the FIRST time you drive by a radar signal. Although the detector will make a couple beeping noises, it knows whether or not it's a real target and will not continue to go off.
I also really like the auto dimming of the screen because at night, the blue LED's are much brighter then the red ones and thus reduces eye strain.
I love how it tells your speed all the time if you want this feature to stay present all the time. Much more accurate than a cars speedometer.
The GPS seems to be very strong and I haven't had any issues with it.
If I had to name one downside of this detector, it would be the price. It is a little pricey at $500, however not having to worry about those false alerts is a HUGE plus and would say it's diffidently one of the biggest features of this detector.
Overall, I absolutely love this detector and would most diffidently recommend it to everyone!

What's great about it: Works like a pro
This is an exceptional device, i was not sure when purchasing how it would work for the money but like i have been told get what you pay for. This unit stops the annoying threat alarms after it has passed the same GPS location 3 times with not acquiring a true threat and works excellent on real threats of speed traps. if you take anything from this you will not be disappointed and think the cost of 1 ticket compared to the cost of this unit.

What's great about it: GPS, auto learn, easy to use
What's not so great: No cord for comp updates, short trail period, No escort live cord
Let me start of by saying that I love this radar detector, and the VR1 is a very distant second. The futures and the GPS make this radar detector leaps and bounds ahead of the rest.
Let me also explain why I didnt give it a flawless 5.0 which it deserves. So you drop 540.00 roughly after tax on this thing (and trust me it's worth every penny# and you open the box to find out that they don't even give you a smart cord to connect it to the computer #e.g. any cord that charges a Droid# which you need to fully utilize all of its potential #i.e. red light camera updates, speed trap updates, false alarm upates, etc.#. They also have a subcription fee to keep you updated after your trial period, which I expected but was maybe hoping for a longer trail period since you did just drop 500 on this thing. Because once you buy it they know they have you so you really have no choice to but to buy it to keep it current.
Now let me give all the praise that it deserves. The GPS with the "auto learn" feature alone makes this thing worth the 500+ dollars you drop on it. False alarms suck and they really do elimanate it. Wether it is you, yourself hitting the store button at a false single #which it will never beep from that false alarm again since it is stored becuase it has a GPS inside the radar detector) or the "auto learn" which does the same thing but, by itself when passed by one #i.e. any large store, casinos, some banks) The reasoning for these false alarms are big stores with there motion sensors for the doors or the alarm systems.
So after it is stored it will never beep from that false single again! = AWESOME! =)
They also have a "escort live" cord that can be plugged into your car then you plug your Droid or Iphone into to see what speed traps are around you# Very cool#
Also just the bottom line of almost never having to listen to a bunch of false beeps and havign to weed them yourself# When this thing beeps you pay attention, because its always dead on# =)
Overall: Best radar detector out there just sad they dont hook you up with a little bit longer of a trial period and a cord# C'mon man!! =)

What's great about it: Features and ability to update; red camera feature; false alarm lockout
What's not so great: It vibrates a lot on rough roads; unimpressive laser (Ka) detection; price is really high for the performance
I bought this radar detector and put the extra cash into it because of the features that minimize false alarms. It is excellent at recognizing nuisance alarms and storing it, so you aren't distracted. I was impressed that after having this alarm there are more red light cameras than I had ever paid attention to before, which is excellent.
Big however; it really hasn't picked up a laser system faster than my Walmart Cobra $130 special, which is a major downside. I have not had the opportunity to test it on a longer drive/roadtrip. I am hoping this will change my mind. As of yet, I love the lock out feature for the false alarms but am not overly impressed with its detection.

What's great about it: Alert volume adjust to abience noise.
Upgraded from earlier version. Just as good if not better on strength. Much better on false alerts. Did not alert at several false locations where the earlier version did. Great in learning and storing false locations, easy to manually add false locations if necessary. Has picked up radar traps, well in advance. Love how it lets you know a cop is in the area with just a couple of beeps when you are at rest, rather then going full bore. Very accurate database on red light cameras. Little expensive, but worth it.

What's great about it: Excellent radar detector with lots of options
I have the special edition 9500IX the pink/white. The last radar detector I owned was a Escort 7500. This so far has been great. GPS is a excellent feature and you can mark where there are speed traps and camera lights. Once you mark these locations you can download on your computer and sync with other users marked locations so you are always up to date. This detector also has the new "POP" feature where a law enforcement officer just pulls a trigger on the radar gun and the Escort will catch that. Of course law enforcement is not suppose to issue tickets when just using pop radar, but do you trust them, I don't. When a alarm does go off it shows your speed @ that time on the display. When you do hook up to the computer you can also pick and choose what features you want on your detector and it has a default setting also. I have used this detector for around a week and so far gives me plenty of time to slow down when a alarm goes, off. And with the GPS feature if the detector notices a false alarm 3 times in the same place it will automatically delete that false alarm so it will not go off again.

What's great about it: Everything, GPS displays speed you are traveling, it blocks false alarms, has many settings you can adjust, easy set up
What's not so great: nothing
I have had this detector for almost two months and its awesome! It automatically blocks out false alarms after only a few false triggers and then you never get them again. Since it has GPS you can set your own locations for speed cameras and red light cameras, and you can also select locations to block out yourself. It also has pre-programed locations.
The best feature is that you can change a setting so the detector will display the speed you are traveling (similar to a heads up display). It's awesome to look forward and see how fast I am going without looking down. You can also change a lot of other settings.
This radar detector is pretty expensive but it is the best one with GPS right now. And, you get what you pay for, and I wanted the best. I can't imagine having a cheap one with false alarms every few minutes. This has already saved me a few times and is well worth the money. I highly recommend this detector.

What's great about it: Easy to set up and easy to use.
What's not so great: Size and price.
I bought this a month ago. I just attained the 'escort live!' smart cord for my iPhone 4S and it works wonderful. Con is the price and size. It is bit pricey for what it does but I guess it worth overtime. The size is too bulky compare to other products. The digital dash capability on the smartphone screen is bit inaccurate compare to my digital dash on my Boxster. The other minor issue is that the cable connector is located on the left side. I wish they had it on the back or the right hand side. But overall I love this new toy. =)

What's great about it: Long Range of picking up radars
What's not so great: Nothing wrong with it
I brought this radar detector about 8 months ago. The price kepted me thinking for weeks should I get it or not. Well once I tried it out I love this radar detector. It will pick up an police radar 2 miles down the highway. Gives you enough tym to react and slow down. I love the red light and speed camera database also. Now they have up their game again with Escort Live. I liked this radar detector so much I brought my wife one the next day and they are the best. You get wat you pay for.You will love this radar detector.
